Rove slams Hillary, Democrats

From NBC's Carrie Dann and Mark Murray
For the second time in two days, a high-ranking White House official has taken issue with Hillary Clinton's recent critical campaign TV ad of President Bush. Yesterday, it was White House spokeswoman Dana Perino; today, it's none other than outgoing political adviser Karl Rove.

Rove -- who called Clinton a "fatally flawed" candidate the day he announced his resignation -- dialed in to Rush Limbaugh's radio show today, where he slammed Clinton's record on both health care and national security issues. "I'm a little bit surprised that somebody with a record so weak on these things would somehow deign to lecture this president," he said.

Of course, as was mentioned yesterday, this kind of criticism from Rove is precisely what the Clinton campaign wants. The more the White House spars with her, the more it bolsters her anti-war credentials; placates liberals who are skeptical of her stands on some of the issues; and transforms her into a "change" candidate.

Much of Rove's critique was based on the strongly anti-Bush ad that Clinton's campaign just started running in Iowa. The ad, entitled "Invisible," alleges that Bush has ignored the health-care needs of everyday Americans and war veterans. Rove called the ad "over the top," saying that its accusations against the Bush Administration are "amazing" in light of Clinton's "spotty" voting record on health care. He added that the claim that Bush has neglected American troops is "egregious," and he accused Clinton herself of denying the military of needed tools by opposing measures like the Patriot Act and the terrorist surveillance program. "How did she vote on the surge?" Rove challenged.

In addition to hammering Hillary, Rove took shots at Democrats, who also have been critical of President Bush. He said that many of the president's most avid critics are "elite effete snobs," and later implied that their rhetorical pummeling of Bush signals weakness and disorganization within the Democratic Party. "The fallback position in politics is that if you don't know what you want to be about, if you don't know what your position is, go with somebody else," said Rove.

Yes, Karl Rove is telling you that the Republicans want to face Hillary Clinton because she will be easy to defeat. You believe him, because why would he lie to YOU? Better yet, it CONFIRMS your own prejudices, so, IT MUST BE TRUE!
If you really believe that Karl is saying this to help the Democratic party to win the White House in 2008,

Folks, I have a really beautiful bridge, in BROOKLYN, that is for sale at a very tempting price. I am sure that you all want to buy it.

Could you be more gullible?

Van
Dems, dems, last time was win at all costs, THIS time it's go with someone who will rescue the country once they win.  Take a look at who is voting for what in Washington DC and you will find all those Blue Dog Democrats we ran against bad Republicans voting with the Republicans for more power for Bush, Chaney, and Gonzales.

This time, let's know what they stand for, not just what party they decided to put behind their name.
LOL - I can't believe I'm agreeing with Karl Rove.
But Hillary is the Queen of Deception. She hasn't produced a health care plan in 15 years -but she's raking in the corporate moolah from the Insurance and Pharma industries now because - they want all Americans to have health care??  ROFL
Van..yes if we believed otherwise.

I'm sure you'll be happy to know I solidified 5 more Obama supporters today.  Everyone is tried of the fights of the 90's and they see Hillary as just prolonging those fights.
csh, chicago; What you need to realize is that;
1. Karl Rove retired from the White House so he could hide in the shadow's of the GOP nominee and do his best to discredit their opponent for President.
2. The GOP is hoping that Hillary gets the nomination because they know Rove will tear her apart and they have the best chance of winning with her as the opponent.
3. She will not now or ever convince the american people that she is the candidate for change when she accept's money from big business and keeps her record's from the Clinton Presidency under rap's.
4. She doesn't have any more "experience" in foreign policy, health care or immigration than Obama.
She is just another candidate with the same Washington insider's that will trade places with the one's that are already there.
Coming from Karl Rove his comments mean nothing to me. I do suppoet Hillary as the nominee and Obama as the vp. Regardlss of what the Republicans have to say. We have had 6 years of such hell that any one is better than Bush and all his adminstrations secrets and lies.
Hey van, why don't you do some reading. Even the other Democrat's are worried about that! The GOP know their best chance to win the Presidency is to go up against Hillary! She has so many skeleton's that she is trying to hide and if there is one person that will dig them up it is Karl Rove. Now, I can't stand the guy, but he does know how to win election's. There is a reason they are doing their best to keep Hillary's record's locked up from the Clinton era and that's because it will show how much inexperience she really has along with god know's what else. It will show her for who she really is and that ain't much!
Rove is a complete moron. He is completely irrelevant. Though he's helped Bush divide this country and create a disaster in Iraq, he no longer matters. Shut up Karl.
VAn..we know like you know that Rove expects Democrats to react/act just like you.  Oh Hillary must be the one they are afraid of her.  No he would NOT help the democrats and if he can help make sure Hillary goes to the GE if nothing else it will fire up their base.  Couple that with her shaky base support and the Republicans have a shot
Thank You Joe and Thank you Sound Mind. I get depressed when I look at cable channels and have to get Hilary's inevitability rammed down my throat but reading the comments by most of the people here gives me hope that I'm not the only one that sees through her campaign strategy. She hasn't spoke about ANYTHING TANGIBLE  and she is beatable.
It's Time to GROW up boys name calling your next President is very Tacky.President Hillary Clinton will remove all the trash from the White House and get this country accomplishing the important domestic issues that have been so overlooked in the past 6 years while Karl called the shots.Everyone around the WORLD will salute our courage when we bring forth our Intelligent, capable President Clinton to engage in clear peaceful, uncluttered Foreign Policy which this group never "got".Use your power for positive change in AMERICA!!!!!

Van - The argument is that Rove wants to help Republicans win in 2008, not Democrats.  Stop telling cliched bridge jokes and learn how to read.
Just shoot me now.  I never in my dreams thought I would ever agree with Rove on anything.
But, I must say the fatally flawed crack is on the money.
The Repubs are just playing Whack a Mole. They will whack whichever Democrat is riding the highest. Once that is accomplished they will start on the new highest riding Demcratic candidate. There is no clever plan or conspiracy; Hillary is just the mole with her head out the furthest.
Van - you misunderstood, at least me. I'm not saying Rove is trying to "help the Democratic party to win the White House in 2008."

I'm saying he wants to help Clinton get the nomination because that's the best chance the Republicans have to win in 2008. I'm guessing that's what the others on your list are saying, too.

You just yesterday acknowledged White House response to Clinton's ad as a gift to Clinton, right? Maybe you think Perino didn't realize what she was doing - didn't realize she was providing her with this gift. But do you really think Rove doesn't understand that?
i love it you liberals just live to hate rove. what a joke if you do not like what he says do not listen for as you know you of the elite left are so much smarter than us knuckle draggers who are right of you no matter how right we are stupid us.
Karl Rove is still a "winnie".And I still approve of this message.
Yes indeed, there's lots going on with the main thing bringing smiles to democrats and republicans alike in face of Karl Rove feeling the pinch and has been asked by his best buddy to cop out. I really believe there's a lot of BS being slung around concerning who the Republicans can beat in 08, fact is they couldn't beat my dog, let alone a human. Not after the way Bush has very effectively set his party back a hundred years. America could easily become a one political party nation soon.
I have read this drivel until it makes me sick to my stomach.  I did not vote for Bush in 2000, nor did I vote for him in 2004.  And I am not really likely to vote Republican in 2008.  But to call Bush and the GOP such hateful, incriminating labels seems jugmental and hypocritical.  It is also waxing old as the election is 15 months away.

I have 2 parents who love the GOP, whereas I do not.  Do I attack them? No.  Do I belittle their position? No.  The fact is if you formulate your love and hate based solely on political thought, then you are no better than the Monsters who ruled Germany from 1933 to 1945.  There was a time when our party refrained from such behavior.

As regards progress and failure, we have no room to judge as we have proven our own ineptness in Vietnam, Iran, the Middle East, and our own Administrations during the cold war, which was not a very large share.  Remember the 18 percent inflation? and the 22 percent interest rates?  The 444-day humiliation in Iran  These are compliments of Jimmy Carter.  The Republicans have had some inceredible failures as well, but calling a kettle black when you are a soot stained pot does not make things right.  Let's face the fact:  We attack Rove because he engineered our defeat tha same way the GOP attacks Clinton because he engineered their losses.

What we need to do is no matter what the outcome of the next election is, is to truly reach across the asile.  Bill Clinton reluctantly did in in 1995 and had a very successful 6 years in the white house, even with a hostile congress and his own personal baggage.  We need to realize that the GOP, despite their numerous flaws are human beings and fellow Americans.  We need them and they need us if we are to stand a chance in a world who very much wants our nation to fall.  Just look at the Monsters of Bin Laden, Chavez, and Ahmadinejad.  They want us dead.  We really need to put this hate rhetoric aside and concentrate on out real enemies.

As Benjamin Franklin was quoted at the Declaration of Independence Signing "We must hang together or we will be assuredly be hung seperately"
Sure enough - the NY Times is reporting the Clinton fundraiser has already gone out.

"Yesterday we launched our first TV ad of the campaign. Within hours the White House was on the attack... The best way you can help her respond today is by making a contribution."

Unlike my first foray into fundraiser writing, this one isn't parody. That's really what the Clinton campaign sent out.
Joe Justice is correct in initial acessment of the subject, everyone should know this ,I would go as far as saying he is a master poker player and a formidable chess player.
I personally donot like Karl but he has been a master of reverse phsycology, and the vast majority of you guys posting responses to this are continuing to fall prey to him once again. Are you so incensed that you no longer have the ability for rational thinking you are following suit just as if playing a game of hearts or spades,Do us all a huge favor and contemplate objectively for 1 min. and you should see the writing on the wall.
Karl Rove's tactics are no more than you would see in a middle school class election and he and people like him ,cna with great confidence know the general populus of our nation cannot see through this therefore this is why election after election our political process is reduced to slinging mudd and below the belt spun personal attacks , I call it the Jerry Springer Show or soap opera mentality and everyone falls in line just as these hired guns expect them to every time open your eyes America there will never be change as long you are as gullable as they know you are . One further note before you may try to brand me as repub or dem . Ill will tell you I am at odds with almost everyone here and at odds with both parties I am a constitutional conservative read the document and then you will understand  and Im not afraid to id myself either
Pappy, we need you here.
Let us reason for one second. Today the only reason Democrats have political edge over Republicans in opinion polls is due to war in Iraqi. If Hilary is nominated as candidate that advantage will instantly evaporate. Why? She co-authored the war and insisted on keeping the course until the war starts to seem un-winnable. When Hilary talks about change, she only refers to changing the political party in power and not changing the processes that led to the quagmire in Iraqi. Hence, Hilary cannot use Iraqi war as a winning proposition during the general election. If she were to talk about withdrawing troops from Iraqi, the counter response from Republicans is that she is a defeatist and wants to cut and run. Remember that withdrawing troops makes sense to Democrats and Independents. During the general election, the mud-slinging that will ensue will keep Independents from showing up to vote during the election.

On family issue, Hilary has no leg to stand on. Republicans will clean her out. On economic front, they will only tag her tax-and-spend Democrat for big government and social medicine.

We hear that Hilary knows how to defeat Republicans. Let us review few facts. Hilary campaigned for the seat of retiring Senator, Patrick Moynihan, a man that was highly respected and honored for his sharp intellect. New York is a liberal state. At the time Giuliani was to contest against Hilary but last minute he dropped out due to health reasons and Rick Lazio was quickly drafted. Most people at the time sympathized with Hilary for the humiliation he suffered during Lewinsky saga. Hence, Hilary never faced real Republican attack machinery. The events of 9/11 helped to consolidate her position as Senator and made her re-election much easier and Republicans did not find anybody of stature to compete with her. But in the general election, Hilary has to win non-liberal states where family value has high premium.

We must never forget that Al Gore and John Kerry were defeated by George Bush due to likeability index. People did not vote for Bush because he was a policy wonk but because they think he was likeable and they would not mind to have him in their bedrooms for four years.
If Giuliani were to face Hilary in the general election, states like New York, New Jersey, Ohio and California will be in play for Republicans. Giuliani will beat Hilary because he is seen as more authentic and likeable than Hilary. Please forget the opinion polls of today as meaningless. To win against Hilary, what Republicans can only do is to raise her un-favorability level a notch and the deal is wrapped up. If Democrats were to nominate Hilary, they are going to lose both Whitehouse and seats in the House and Senate. Hence, another occasion to lick their wounds after all is set and done. This is a clarion call to arm.
If Rove and Bush is the Dream Team , despite all of their scandals which dwarfs all of Billy Bubba sins combined, well, St Hillary the Redeemer is not bad at all.
Rove,Bush Rumsfeld and Gonzo...nanana,nanana,hey,hey,hey..goodbye!
Who is vanreuter?

it surprises me how misinformed the majority of americans are. hillary has done more in her time in the senate than you will ever admit to yourselves. the main reasoning for this is because for some reason, it has always been popular to trash hillary for being ambitious, deceitful, and a phony. look at her voting record. being in the military, i was hesitant to support her, but then i looked  into her background. she has done more for the troops than she gets credit for, for our families and our quality of life. thing is, republicans used to have a lock on the miltary vote due to perceived weakness of the dems. this election will change that when she wins the nomination and her record on these issues are brought to light.
another point - when we invaded iraq like 80% of the general population supported it. don't be so quick to point fingers when you were probably one of those 80% at the time. the president flat out lied to the nation and got us in this mess, then overstepped his boundaries with his war authorization. you can blame hillary as much as you like, but i admire her for not apologizing. if she did, she wouldn't have this backbone that most of you seem to think she is without. she made a conscious decision at the time with the facts that we all were given. to shift the blame off bush and to each member of congress only helps him escape the responsibility of his office.
we as a nation, at that point in time, had the wool pulled over our eyes as well.
this talk about obama bringing hope and change to the white house? that worked for kennedy in the 60s when we faught conventional wars. the fact of the matter is, at the end of the day, hope doesn't stop terrorism and hope doesn't build the economy. hope is for the hopelessly lazy and ineffective.
hillary will win and a lot of people will be surprised. she's faught the GOP for 16+ years in the  public spotlight. as first lady, she was bill's surrogate. the world loves the clintons and they always had center stage because they knew how to work people. good or bad, that's diplomacy.
laura bush and the other first ladies are glorified housewives who's biggest accomplishment is redecorating the east wing; hillary has always been her own person. research CHIP and what she has done for Reserve Forces for proof.
there's nothing more they can dig up about her. she's the most organized of either party, and that is the machine that wins elections.
Would someone please explain to me what Hillary was supposed to do when her husband cheated on her and what that has to do with her presidential qualifications? If I am a surgeon and my husband cheats on me, does that mean I'd better not operate tomorrow, or ever?

Some of these comments exemplify how the conservative, so-called Christians have come to vicariously rule this country and why we have ended up with someone like George Bush in the Oval Office. His henchman, Karl Rove, has played to the basest instincts and most ignorant prejudices in the conservative populace and evidently, they are still out there in full force. He is still playing them and they are still stupidly responding.

However, it isn't only Republicans who are ignorant. There are Democrats who match them point by point on IQ tests. It defies logic that some of these people actually think that the Republicans are trying to trick them into voting for Hillary! Yes, we all know that Hillary is secretly beloved by the desperate Republicans. Or, alternatively, that they want their Republican candidate to run against her. Dear God.

One person complained that Hillary didn't accomplish anything when her HUSBAND was president, as though this was highly unusual and uncalled for in a First Lady. One stated that she had already had 8 years of fame, as though fame is what being president is all about. Several have accused her of being power-hungry, as though this were an aberrant trait in a politician, or in any highly ambitious person.

I could go on and on, but I won't; it's a waste of time. It's also depressing to think that there are so many illogical, prejudiced, unthinking, petty, and childish voters in this country. Whether they are Democrats or Republicans,it disturbs me to think that they vote mindlessly and emotionally. As I said, I understand how George Bush ended up in the Oval Office. I further understand how hard it will be for a woman to ever occupy the space.

Heaven help us all.

No doubt the Repugs want Clinton to run if for the reason that she riles up their conservative base.  The issue now is if that base still exist and whether after these tormenting years they hold any political leverage.  I think not.  The polls show a dramatic shift by independents way from the right.  Like our famous president said..Fool me once shame onn..  ... Just don't wanna get fooled again.  They repugs know how to run a dirty campaign and I'm sure the gay marriage and abortion issues will be brought out full force against the dems.  But the dems have been taking notes.....

So Bush's brain cancer wants to speak and the right wing media acts like it is from on high.
Karl is the best endorsement Hillary can have.
Hey guys, there is very little left the repubs can throw at Hillary that they already haven't tried. And they will lie, make up stories and try and swiftboat ANY dem candidate. My God, they already tried the Hillary is a lesbian card, which as everyone knows is the SCARIEST thing for any female to be called(being sarcastic). Her husband cheated on her and she tortured him for awhile and they got back together...and whip dee doo! Sounds like tons of marriages in America. All the so called scandals are already out there. And Van, keep up the good work. However, I think that half those names on your list are really goofy ass Jerry, by the way..
I noticed lots of men saying extra nasty things about Hillary. Whats the matter boys, a bit insecure about a woman running the country?
hopefully karl rove will keep a seat warm in hell for his good ol buddy, bush.
Hmm, the word moonbat comes up again from Rea? I thought that was Ruperts word, Jerry is that you again, spewing anti Hillary messages?Jeeerrrryyy!!!!
Judy Kilgore Gadsden, Al / I am amazed that people who claim superior intelligence can not see that hillary is unelectable, or I should say refuse to admit she is unelectable, the republicans most definitely want hillary nominated because they know they can beat her, sorry
bb / it always seems that anytime a male brings up any of the endless negative aspects of hillary you ladies always lob the sexist bomb like some third grader on the school yard playground, this ain't the 80's no one is against hillary because of her gender, although it's obvious that many support her for that reason only, she is a deceptive republican clone who only cares about herself and her elitist buddies, she won't answer any of the important questions, she’s already owned by corporate america and you all know it, and if nominated she will lose the general election, find a decent female candidate and she will get elected, hillary ain't it.
MK - Read what Judy actually said.  Did she say that she doesn't think that Hillary is unelectable?  I don't see that phrase, or anything similar to it, in her entire post.  Which, by the way, is dead on, particularly that bit about ambition.  If you don't think Obama is ambitious, those rose-colored glasses must be fitting very well.
MK, repubs love confused people like you. So you'll be voting republican if Hillary gets the nomination I suppose? Bashing Hillary is what they want us to do.
It isn't Senator Clinton who is perceived as unelectable;

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/08/15/opinion/polls/main3170310.shtml

Among Democratic primary voters, 76 percent think Clinton can win, as do 54 percent for Obama.

Sen. Hillary Clinton is seen as the one with the right experience to be president. Clinton continues to hold a commanding lead over Obama, 45 percent to 25 percent, among those planning to vote in a Democratic primary. Former Sen. John Edwards is third with 14 percent.

More than half of voters (51 percent) think Obama, a first-term U.S. senator from Illinois, does not have the right kind of experience to be a good president, compared with 29 percent who think he does.

On the other hand, 59 percent of voters think Clinton, the former first lady and a two-term senator from New York, has the right experience, while 35 percent think she does not."

It is nice to see intelligent, thoughtful posts, from Hillary supporters, showing that you can support your candidate without having the need to demonize your opponent(s).
I am sure that the challengers to Hillary are as aware as their supporters that after many debates and thousands of articles, the polls remain essentially unchanged, and in Hillary's favor by a wide margin, especially on the national level. While the numbers themselves are impressive, it's the consistency, from poll to poll and from week to week, despite the best efforts of her main challengers to, "shake up", the race. In addition, the internal numbers as to who is perceived as a strong leader, able to win the general election, and even an agent for change, all favor Senator Clinton by such a wide margin, that some of her closest competitors in the race are at single digits of support.
The race is static, because despite the rhetoric and invective, Senator Clinton is seen by the majority of democratic voters to not only be the most electable, but the most competent and best prepared to lead.

Van
bb I think jerry has swimming lessons today, it is no float-ties day!

It is good that you shield your old folks.
I sent your post to Bin Laden, Chavez and Ahmadinejad.
Told them to cool it that WE do not hate anyone, so you can relax. Bush is ALMOST gone.
Now we can all hold hands and sing gospel songs.
No more dirty politics, turn the other cheek and the meek shall inherit the earth and all that good stuff.
etc. etc......
HP ha ha! You made me laugh, thanks. Instead of Jerry we got MK who thinks Hillary is a "deceptive republican clone". Now thats even funnier. Putting Clinton and republican in the same sentence. Whew!
Van it is good to see the polls are still holding for Senator Clinton.  The bashing will soon be strong and hardy from the trolls.
I think you should screw in a typo and show Obama up a few notches. The roar will be loud on just how really, really good polls are then!
just saying.
Carrie, Eastern Iowa / I was making the point about hillary being unelectable I didn't say judy made such a comment, being sarcastic, get it? bb I agree they're are many confused people posting here take a look in the mirror and you'll see one
Rove has a brillant mind.  I will give him that, however, it is also warped, sick and incapable of seeing the other side of humanity.  You must be a rich WASP for him to care.  He lacks common sense.  I work behind the orange cutain (Orange County) and the only people I hear who want Senator Clinton out are Republicans.  They do fear her and they realize that she may win.  I am for Clinton, but will support whoever the Democratic candidate is for President.  Rove fears that more than anything.  His bid for greatness is gone.

What is Barack Obama up to? What is Hillary Clinton doing? What are the other candidates up to?
The quick answers:
Barack Obama is turning into George Bush. In fact, Obama is defending George Bush.  George Bush is not to blame for our problems, says
I never heard that song nuanced, hum me a few bars.
Karl Marx er Rove, the unindicted traitor, the still in the closet, sex slave of Jeff Gannon, calls up Rush Limbaugh, a confessed drug addict, smuggler, and gossip monger and he slams Hilliary Clinton and this has-been, this use ta was's rantings mean what to whom? It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing!
