Michelle Obama, all fired up

Posted: Thursday, August 16, 2007 4:11 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC’s Carrie Dann
And you thought Elizabeth Edwards was all fired up.

At a rally in Council Bluffs, Iowa, Michelle Obama showed just how fiery we can expect her to be as her husband's battle for the Democratic nomination heats up.

"Think! Listen!" she implored during an impassioned introduction of her husband today, "The game of politics is to make you afraid, so that you don't think!"

Her introduction was a super-charged version of Barack Obama’s stump speech, which has increasingly vilified the bleak status quo of a rigid Washington establishment. But where he, highlights hope, his wife warned today of the consequences of fear. Jabbing a pointed finger in the air, she derided a political system in which "every decision that we've made over the past 10 years wasn't FOR something, but was because people told us we had to fear something."

She put a hard edge on her husband’s "war that never should have been waged" applause line, too, exclaiming, "We are in this war because for eight years; we were told to be afraid!"

In recent weeks, Elizabeth Edwards -- who's taken potshots at both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama -- has been the political spouse perceived as the one doing the dirty work for her candidate. But today, there was no mistaking Michelle Obama's subtle jabs at her husband's opponents, as she compared his U.S. Senate run to the current race for the White House. At the beginning of his Illinois run, she said, he ran against a "billionaire" and a "strong political family" believed to be unbeatable. She was referring to businessman Blair Hull and pedigreed Illinois politician Daniel Hynes, whom Obama defeated in the Democratic primary, but the parallels to the Clintons are clear.

As she completed her introduction of Barack Obama, she called him "the man I love, who I would rather have home with me ... but who I am willing to sacrifice, because we have this window of opportunity, a chance to make something real happen."

If Michelle doesn't want to live in a country where there is fear then I'd like to know where she proposes to move?  Somebody name me one place in this world where there is nothing to fear.  My only thought at this point is if that's what kind of influence she brings to her husband's consideration of this world, then perhaps it is best they imagine about becoming the leaders of the free world.  At least that way they could imagine a perfect world and not have to worry about the responsibilities of handling tough decisions.
I agree with you Sunny..people who have used 9/11 for political gain/ideology are just as dangerous as the terrorists because they divide the people. And no..don't take that statement and try to twist it towards every Dem or every GOP member. It's primarily the administration/Bush who has set the tone and provided no leadership even until this very day.
Sunny,

You completely lack perspective...The worst fanatics live here?  Really, I'm not seeing regular beheading videos coming in from Mississippi or Washington or Kansas...or suicide bombings in Boston, Dallas, LA, or Spokane. Sunny, it is people like you who HATE your own country so much without any perspective of the outside world just because you either lack the ability to think for yourself or just want to believe that we live under the worst regime since Hitler.  You and those like you are glittering jewels of spectacular ignorance.  You think that this administration is destroying America? Just wait until Democrats run things again, I will guarantee a stock market recession, higher taxes, a penalty on the rich, a real disappearing middle class, and a growing lower class...and maybe even more socialized medicine to rival the pathetic European systems.  Why don't you just invite the terrorists here to run us since George Bush is the real enemy and created all the problems in this world.  Next time before vomiting fantasies about the world and our administration try using the nut in your head to push out some real facts that you seek out yourself, supported with reason.
Politics of fear..Wes just shown it perfectly
I am hoping that some of those running for president are not doing it because they saw the interview process up close --- and think it would be a nice paragraph to add to their resume. While some may know how to win because  they were inside a winning political war room before... It is only fair for the American people to get someone who definitely has fire in his or her gut and who really wants to make this country great again... But it is sad that presidential politics are not about getting the best person to lead.. it is about other selfish reasons.

THIS TIME AROUND WE HAVE A CHANCE TO GET IT RIGHT

I think the Dem -- race is well positioned -- I hope Obama is assembling a war --room with strategists drawn from other parties to pull off a Nov -- Dec surprise....

I know that Mr Obama would never let his  mother and maternal grand parents down ....or his Paternal family members down [[[ He is no Clarence ]]]. I know also that because he has a darker skin he knows what it is like to be black in America. .. he grew up mainly among, whites, orientals and other non whites... He  has the unique blessing of understanding the needs & desires of all people. He is wise beyond our imagination  --- his accomplishments at Harvard had to come with real struggle ---- because with a darker skin you have to work 2--to --4 times harder to pull up even -- much less to pull ahead...

Mr Obama knows it and has factored that into his campaign.

Mrs Clinton is very scripted and careful ---- do you think the Hillary / Edwards gossip mal-function was staged... If it was not -- then no one is immune to mistakes.

I just learnt that what is call free press -- is not really free  and some are more desperate than the politicians running for office...

Best of luck   OBAMA --

IF you win then the American people win this time. Consumer confidence will explode here and abroad -- taxes will be lowered and revenue will overwhelm this nation... the world will be a better place. [ SMALL WORLD}

She may bring that value to teach her fellows first.
Ted Kennedy endorses Barack Obama, Check out the video. Wow!
