Rep. Bob Filner (D-CA) was involved in an altercation last night at Dulles Airport. He was allegedly angered by the amount of time it was taking to get his luggage and tried to push his way through the United Airlines baggage claim office. The release below is from Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.

“Around 6 PM on Sunday, Aug. 19, Airports Authority Police were called to the United Airlines bag claim office at Dulles for a report of an incident with a passenger regarding his baggage. The individual allegedly attempted to enter an area authorized for airline employees only, pushed aside the employee's outstretched arm and refused to leave the area when asked by an airline employee. When MWAA officers arrived a few minutes later, the man had left the office and was waiting in the area of a bag carousel. Officers interviewed him and witnesses and released him. Before the individual left the airport, officers advised him that the airline employee would be pursuing charges. The airline employee appeared before a Loudoun County Magistrate later that evening and a summons was obtained charging Robert Filner (DOB 09/04/1942) with assault and battery, a class 1 misdemeanor. Mr. Filner is scheduled to appear in Loudoun County General District Court on October 2.”

**** UPDATE **** NBC's Ken Strickland has the response from Filner's press office in a written statement: "Congressman Bob Filner is on his way to Iraq, visiting our troops, and will have a full statement when he returns. Suffice it to say now, that the story that has appeared in the press is factually incorrect-and the charges are ridiculous."

He's my congressman. This isn't surprising, I have known how stupid he is for a long time.
Hopefully his mugshot will be more flattering than the photo used in your article.
And why should this suprise anyone, and does anybody really think anything will be done. After all it was a congressman and by their way of thinking they are royalty and should be treated as such. God forbid they may have to rub elbows with the common people
If you've ever arrived on UNITED into Dulles you've wanted to pull a Filner!  I'm a Republican, but I like this guy.
a dem it figures
I wrote this for a local election. It applies to all elections. Everyone wants to blame the President, Congress, Senate and the media. Look to the simple truth and vote. Consider the simple guide I have provided below.

                "Nothing to Lose"

In the decision process of voting, we are faced with the obvious; “Who is the better Candidate”? First, we need to distinguish “New Candidate”, and “Incumbent” A New Candidate would be someone that has never held public office, or a public service position via appointment or prior election. An Incumbent would be one who has held, or is holding a public office via previous appointment or election. Using that as a guideline and basis of determination of whether a candidate is an “Incumbent” or not, now we may proceed.

The three steps are elementary. First, ask yourself; “What has Candidate (Incumbent) done for me"? Choose any current or past elected or appointed official running for an elected office. Don’t allow the answer to simply jump from your lips, be objective. Unfortunately, whether you are objective or not, the same answer will likely follow, “Nothing”!

Second Step! Considering that the individual you chose above is running for office, and all of his or her energy is dedicated to running for office, what is Candidate (Incumbent), doing? Again, take a moment, ignore the mud slinging, be objective. Remember, all of his or her energy is applied to running for office, a full time effort. In this effort, many promises are made, along with a lot of promises for a brighter future. “What is Candidate (Incumbent) doing for me NOW”? Uh-Oh! Nothing!

Well, here is the opportunity for the Candidate (Incumbent) to redeem himself, or herself. Ok, the third step is near. We have arrived at an answer in the first and second part of this process. The third part!!! Stop and ask yourself this equally important question; “What will Candidate (Incumbent) do for me once he or she is elected"? Be objective. Ok, ask yourself, “If history has a way of repeating itself, what is likely to follow”? Nothing!!!

It seems a bit elementary to use such simplicity in this process. It is a serious decision and a decision we assume will affect us greatly. We might add, (objectively), the only real winner in the election processes is the winning candidate. Look at all of the finger pointing, the inability to do more than blame the other guy, the other party, or use whatever excuse comes closest to convenience. Then consider that these people we choose to elect pay no health insurance, pay no Social Security Taxes, and we will be paying them a significant government pension. Would it be safe to say if we vote the “Incumbent” out of office, we have "NOTHING TO LOSE"???

Don't you people know, he's special!
Ignorant Jackass!
Classic limousine liberal behavior.
I spent 7 hours sitting in an airport Friday night waiting on a delayed flight, when I did finally arrive at my destination, my luggage did not. Welcome to the real world Congressman.
Nothing will come of this because he is a politician, but let an average citizen try something like that and he/she would be in serious trouble.
Hannity Who?
Ha ha, awesome!
Hanity SHOULD spend 25% of his radio time on this. Why should the public ever accept elitist behavior by politicians--Republican or Democrat!
Sorry people just because you are a Sen. Or Congressman ,wait in line !!!
You know Homeland Security has no privilage !!!!
Although I bet Georgie boy Bush will give you a pardon, Oh Yeah I forgot You are a Democrat, TOUGH LUCK !!!
If the politicians don't like the service, they ought to be passing different laws and enacting different types of bureacracies.
I'm just wondering if he didn't have some William Jefferson style evidence in that bag he was so worried about...
Man those idiots just don't get it. They aren't above the law. Throw the book at all of them when they screw up. Oh yeah, and kick them out of office.
Regarding the airport employee pressing charges for having their "arm pushed"! They're just wanting to get their name in the media and/or a $$ settlement from the congressman.
What happened to the old days, when it was "no blood,no foul".
Another Entitled Democrat!
a dem it figures
This may rate a "worser" human being mention by Keith Oberman tonight!
Most of the members of congress, regardless of party, are there primarily on ego trips. The term they like to use to describe themselves,"public servant",is a sick joke. They think of themselves as the masters of the public, not as servants of the public. "We make the law, therefore we are above it." No wonder polls show such general public contempt for Congress. That's what Congress deserves.
He's just like every other person who is fed up with the awful service and disrepesct airlines have for their passengers.  The man's human and lost his temper.
Typical Dumbocrat!
I would like to welcome the Distinguished Gentleman from CA to air travel in these United States.  Our airlines are rated slightly higher in customer satisfaction than Brazilian airlines.
Just another airline that fails to understand that rank has its privileges.
Now he & other D.C. law makers will know what it is like to feel the pinch of their own overzealous legislation!
Typical American these days!
Who would expect a member of Congress to be polite, understanding or courtious?  They think just because they can screw up our lives-we can't screw up their baggage?  I wish he would be treated as one of us lowly peole would be-hauled off in hadcuffs and chewed out by a judge as he handed us a hefty fine or worse!
Typical politician of either party. They all think they have more rights than the everyday person. I am sure they will waste time passing a bill allowing them head of the line privileges.
Mr. Filner, welcome to the reality of air travel.  The only thing missing was a full body search.
What makes our lawmakers believe they are above the law. They strut around like they control the world, and in actuality they are the very cause that the U S is becoming a second rate nation. Their ethics should be second to none, but instead they lag last behind used car salesmen and lawyers. The wholesale giveaway of America to big business, their unworthy pensions, and above all, their inability to reach across party lines and to do something that is good for the people, instead of the party, makes this bunch, over the last 12 years, the worst we have ever elected. Term limits. You betcha!!

Must have been a slow news day.
I've been in that same situation, but I don't think I reacted that way.

I think I just went and got a Starbucks and waited it out with the rest of my flight companions.
His action were worng, if that what took place. My questions to the airline is why does it take so long to get one bagage?
Why do these Democrats think they are better than everyone else?
Just another example of why we don't need democrats in Washington or anywhere else for that matter.
A congressman and an airline employee? Wish there had been a fight and they'd both lost!
IT'S A VAST RIGHT WING CONSPIRACY...GONZALES IS GETTING PAYBACK!!
Well, at least it wasn't a Kennedy for once.
good for the employee. Maybe next time that jerk will learn that the laws he helps to create apply to him also.
It's about time our politicians experience the same pain as us.  They should also experience our health care system, if thats what you want to call it!
What a disgrace. Just another pitiful politician thinking they are above all the little people. Doesn't matter folks, donkeys or elephants, it's the type of thing these guys need to get kicked in the nuts to wake them up
Arrogance meets officiously obnoxious and sparks fly.  So what?
Way to go, Bob. Just what Americans need--another nail in our image coffin. Can't wait to see spin on your "sincere" apology.
You'd think this guy would be smarter than to fly the worst airline in America in the first place. What did he expect? No wonder congress is so inefficient.
It's good that people in the public eye are corrected
for their improper actions as well as citizens not in
office...
You guys have no business publishing his DOB on the web -- that is a critical piece of info for identity theft!  It adds zero news value to the story.
