First Read has confirmed that the Biden campaign is reshuffling its finance team. According a source close to the campaign, Finance Director Chris Koerner has turned over day-to-day management of the finance operation to Biden's long-time finance director, Dennis Toner. “She is not going anywhere, and her title remains the same,” the source said of Koerner, who will focus on raising money from trial lawyers.

Veteran New York fundraiser Paula Levine “is stepping up to play larger role” as is Mary Liz Kane, Sen. Ted Kennedy's long-time finance director in Boston.

Through the first two quarters, Biden has only raised $4.4 million, behind the fund-raising numbers of Clinton, Obama, Edwards, Richardson and Dodd.

Bush is a fundementaly "flawed" President.
I love it that Biden doesn't seem bothered by his tiny poll numbers and tiny fundraising numbers. I really believe that this campaign for him is one extended audition for Secretary of State or Ambassador to the U.N.
Joe Biden better hold some more mixers.  More drinking and more wallets falling out of people's pockets.
Biden is fading fast.  The last hope of the Democrats winning the presidency in '08 is withering on the vine.
First Read, Whats the problem?
Glad to hear a larger focus on fundraising.  Go Joe!
This guy just wants to be Hillary's VP running mate.
So, he'll attack Obama and Edwards.
He'll pontificate from his 'experienced' vantage point.

Sorry, a DC insider who blew the biggest decision of his career, voting for the Iraq War vote !!
Biden, you have no chance. How much are you willing to raise knowing that you have no shot at getting the nomination. Why don't you quit wasting your time and money, and just start raising money for Clinton since you are really trying to get the VP nomination anyway.
If we, and most other democratic candidates support his plans and ideas, we should support him.
If Iraq and foreign policy are the most pressing issues facing us today, we should support Joe Biden.
If you take the common sense, no B.S. approach to fund our troops while calling for the reasonable, most practical approach towards Iraq policies, then Joe Biden is the only one to support.
Here's what Biden needs to do:

http://theseventen.blogspot.com/2007/08/how-to-ruin-top-tier.html

Bill Richardson is experienced, but does not have good stage presence and has generally underwhelmed voters in the debates.

Chris Dodd is experienced, but comes across like a slice of white bread.

The so-called "top three candidates" are leaving many voters yearning for a candidate who is not polarizing (like Clinton) and is not a political greenhorn (Obama and Edwards).  Thus, there is still room for the competent, veteran stateman in the race.  Seeing that Dodd and Richardson are failing to sufficiently fill that void, this should give Biden his opening.  He seems to be going in the right direction by pressing the authenticity issue as it relates to Iraq, but he needs to start asking some tough questions too.
Joe Biden should sue Jerry for slander.
With all due respect, Sierra, I'm not sure it's fair to determine for these people what the biggest decision of their careers has been.  Biden has been around for a long time, and over that time he has made thousands of decisions.  Yes, this was a big one and yes, he did get it wrong.  But I personally do not think we should judge a man (or woman, for that matter) by one act and one act alone.

Would you want to be judged by your biggest mistake and nothing but that mistake?
Ryan, Sierra, & David-

None of you have a clue what you are talking about. The idea that Biden would run for President to be appointed Secretary of State, or to run as VP is a joke. If he wanted those positions he'd have a better chance on the sidelines. Sen. Biden has specifically said he will not accept either Secretary of State, or another cabinet position, or run as VP. However, Richardson's book specifically talks about how he was interviewed as Kerry's running mate, and his problems at Dept. of Energy prevented him from being considered as Gore's VP. Unlike Joe Biden, Richardson has publicly refused to rule out accepting the VP position.

Ignore the polls, currently (on the ground) Sen. Biden is 4th in Iowa, after continual screw ups Richardson is now in 5th and fading fast. Once you start slipping like Richardson is you don't recover in Iowa. Sen Biden is already ahead of where John Kerry was in 04 when pundits wrote him off. People need a sense of history.  At a Biden event Monday night a man told him that he wanted Biden to be secretary of state because he had more foreign affairs experience than any of the other candidates, and they need his experiences. He said he wasn't interested, and asked the man why would he want to vote for someone for President who he felt was less qualified on foreign affairs than another candidate? It made a lot of sense. At this same event several people who had previously committed to Edwards and Clinton decided to switch to Biden.

Anthony Palmer has it 100% right, or at least that is what is happening on the ground in Iowa. Also, if Biden was given more debate time he would offer more criticism, and when he directly criticized Dodd and Clinton for not knowing existing US foreign policy law (with respect to getting Bin Laden) the media (except Keith Olberman thought he was criticizing Obama.

Look at the candidates websites, compare their positions on Iraq, and you will see why all the candidates agreed at the debate that Biden had the plan for Iraq. Even Richardson said "Joe Biden's plan has potential" . Compare the candidates websites and you will see Sen. Biden has a plan that has a chance at working, the rest provide bare platitudes. If you think that the non-partisian electorate will be impressed with promises, and no explanation how to implement them, especially after the last 6 & 3/4  years of Bush you do not know what you are talking about.

If you want to see Joe Biden win Iowa, which will completely change the dynamics of the race go to his website and make a donation. If you want a Democrat President, and believe any one has the general election shot that Biden does, you probably thought voting for Ralph Nader wouldn't effect the election either.
Joe Biden is smart, articulate, knowledgeable and presents himself more of a statesman than anyone in the running. If he can show that he has organizational power which includes a financial base, he just might have a chance. Wouldn't it be refreshing to win the presidency without a coffer of money, but instead on ideals and a clear plan to achieve those goals?
Ryan, why don't YOU stop wasting OUR time with your ignorant posts by assuming you know Biden's motivations.
Sara,
Nice post.  clear thought is much appreciated.
Joe, "Catch me if you can", will not be elected. We do not need another " ladie's man" in the oval office.
Anonymous,

Why don't you stop wasting our time with your ridiculous posts? What gives you the right to decide what the debate?
Best of luck to Joe Biden.  I am a lifelong Democrat and can't think of another person who would make a better President.  We really need someone with his wisdom, experience, and insight.  He would also provide a welcome moderate point of view that this country so desparately needs to reunite us all again.  Please - no more religious zealot neocons.  After more than 6 years of Dumbo & Co., it would be refreshing to have a highly competent, wise, and candid person such as Sen. Biden running things.  I pray that he wins as I really think Hillarity is unelectable and Obama is haughty, arrogant about his intellectual abilities and offers no real change, despite his message to the contrary.
Biden is the only clear choice. He has publicly stated that there are some things worth losing an election over...and he is straight and to the point about every topic he has had the opportunity to bring up in the debates.

Biden has experienced hardships in his life, personally and professionally. He has years of experience in getting through the "polarized" congress and is the best candidate for working on bi-partisanship.

The only way we will end the scourge is to put someone that is honest and direct into office; of all of the candidates in both parties, Senator Biden seems the best man for the job.

He doesn't waste his time on personal attacks or name-calling, he is directly interested and focused on the issues.

We don't need people that are in the habit of blaming others as a means of continuing the lack of leadership...we need a true leader...WE NEED BIDEN!

Keep leading and we'll all come around Joe!

Ray, what are you talking about with your "ladies man" comment? Joe "Catch me if you can"? That makes no sense. Please explain what that statement implies.
Biden good. Me like the Biden.  Go Biden!
Sara, I understand what you are saying about Iowa dynamics, and certainly wouldn't argue those with you from over here in the Old Dominion.

But this year is different than past cycles. I don't know if its enough anymore to beat expectations in either Iowa or New Hampshire (or even both) and get that bump, if you aren't already ready to go in the other states.

The other primaries will come up so fast this year. I'm thinking if you don't have money to organize in multiple, large states, the bump just won't be enough.

Biden reshuffling his fundraiser team - or whatever the exact words are for what he's doing - is a good sign for his campaign. But... if you've only raised $4 mil so far, how much more is even the best fundraiser going to do for you?
Biden is my man. He's been out there telling it like it is while the others posture. What a shame $$'s are a judge of a credible candidate.
Biden is just a gas bag w/hair plugs. What has he accomplished for the sorry State of Delaware???
I have always liked Biden.  I admit, I have not followed his career closely but I have had the opportunity to listen to interviews with him many times back when Imus was still on.  Whatever the topic, he always made sense.  I may not have always agreed with him, but I did understand his points.  Some politicians, especially those who have been in D.C. for decades, are so used to spinning you feel like even after listening to them speak at length, you're not really sure what they said.  Biden may be a bit verbose at times, but from what I have observed, he has a point and that point is made obvious.

I think we could do a lot worse than Biden.  I am concerned, as Paul Miller said, that he won't have the finances to mount a serious challenge to the frontrunners.  That's one of the reasons all of the bunching up of the primaries/caucuses right at the beginning is frustrating to me, because candidates who perform well in IA or NH will get a bounce, but with the next contests following so closely, they may not have enough time to raise enough money from that bounce to compete in the other areas.
Delaware
Delaware

I know it is a state.....

Where is it again?........

What is their main purpose in the United States again?
Paul,

From what the "experts" say moving up of the calendar actually puts more emphasis on Iowa. Joe can win Iowa. If he does that would change things quickly. In the past when the calendar has been moved up there was a fear that it made Iowa and NH less important, but the opposite happened. Many believe the reason Hillary didn't skip Iowa as one of her advisor's suggested she do in a memo (in April or May)was in large part because the shortened calendar heightened the importance of Iowa and NH, the other reason was the "perception problem" that it would cause if the inevitable nominee was afraid to compete in Iowa.

A campaign can get up and running quickly in other states. In 03 Sen. Kerry pulled all his workers from other states, except NH, in December and had them all go to Iowa. He had made the decision that he had to win or come in a close second to have a chance. The workers knew that their continued employment was dependent on Kerry's showing in Iowa. Howard Dean, and other candidates had the other states covered, in part on the assumption that the accelerated calendar de-emphasized Iowa's importance, and they bought into their strength in the national polls. The massive free media that results from a win or a "perceived upset" makes up for lack of organization on the ground in other states. You'd also be surprised how quickly a candidate who is stronger after Iowa can get out of Iowa and get set up in other states.

Ray Dunbar your comment regarding Biden being a ladies man must reflect jealousy, because they have no basis in fact. Unless you are referring to the fact that many ladies find Sen. Biden is handsome and fit, but then Obama and Edwards are also handsome and fit. If you are implying that Biden has the tendencies that got Pres. Clinton in trouble you are full of it. Sen. Biden met his first wife Naomi on spring break his junior year. He feel head over heals in love with her. She was a student at Syracuse he was at U of Delaware.  He quit the football team his senior year because it would prevent his going to see her on weekends. He went to law school at Syracuse to be near her. They married  the summer after his first year of law school. In the 6 years that followed they had two sons and a daughter. In December of 1972 Sen. Biden's wife and his infant daughter were killed (and Beau and Hunter seriously injured)when a semi struck the Biden family car. Sen. Biden was in DC with transition work for the senate. (He had been elected  to the senate weeks before) A few years later he met his wife Jill on a blind date set up by his brother. After dating for several years they married and had a daughter (Ashley). Jill and Joe Biden recently celebrated their 30th anniversary.

I knew Texas education was poor, I just didn't realize how poor! I suggest you buy a map, or come to Iowa and enroll in a 5th grade geography class. Jerry is that you on the Fed Ex commercials who doesn't know where China is?
