Start your tongues a-wagging... Jim Webb makes his first appearance in New Hampshire as a US senator on October 20 as the keynote speaker for the state Democrats' J-J dinner. Could this be an audition for Webb as a potential running mate?

What dont the republicans dont like about this man is beyond me ,he worked for thier man Ron REAGAN,as sec.of the navy, heard the "Nightingales Song" which if you want to read a great book about Ollie north ,Bud macfaland,Poindexter ,macain, and webb will tell you something about this man .Served in nam combat position not national deferrment guard,he would lend a lot of defence dept understanding, and it will upset alot of lefties and righties but thats alright when everyone complains about someone it means thier usally down the middle on alot of issues ,I would be proud to have the man as VP ,Hilliary would do this country well to choose him
When he refused to shake the shrubs hand, he got my vote.
Oh I can think of several reasons why Jim Webb won't be on anybody's short list for VP.  But the main reason is that nobody wants to bring up those books he wrote.
Clinton Webb 20087 ticket is just what this country needs.  They have my vote.
Webb should be included in the next administration ,vp, sec. state, or defense dept. all would be good places for his talents.
He would also compliment Obama, Edwards or Gore as well.
Well ya Kenn everyone has a right and a left:)
Webb is a hard-ass, will wait to see how he conducts himself in the months ahead. I hope he will smack shrub up the side of his head!(verbally)
Lets be absolutly clear about one thing, Hillarys VP will be a nobody once the election is over if she wins. This is all about her! Even before as she has to find a "name" that people have heard, but nothing else. A puppet of the highest quality. Bill will have more to due than this flunky.

She is not going to have a strong VP like W. This person will never be seen with her and never doing anything important. We can only hope for many world leaders to die during her term as going to funrals will be his only job.

Webb is a smart enough to get his name in the talking game, but he would never damage his career by actually agreeing to be her VP.
seems like he would want to finish his first term in senate, but like obama, it's just a stepping stone?
I would support Webb---he has the guts to get into anybodys face even when it was jr.Bush.I mean Bush is always reminding us of his "I'm the president and the decider"And to walk away when Bush speaks to you is supposed to be a royal snub.Webb would bring a strong voice to the ticket so far---course it could change this September.
I had a dream weeks ago that Webb was picked as Obama's VP.  Midwest/Southern roots will pervail.
Webb has already had a fundraiser for Obama.
If Hillary wins the nomination, she won't be selecting any of the goofs that are currently running for prez has her VP.  She'll grab some guy (and no, it won't be a gal) from some marginally red southern state hoping to pick up a few electoral votes.

I guess she could pick Bill - with all of his travels, he's probably not a resident of New York anymore, so it would be on the up and up.  That would turn this pair of drama queens from a 3-ring circus into a 6 ring-circus.  Andrea Mitchell would have a stroke on the news.

Jerry, that seems like an odd comment. Having lived through that campaign here in Virginia, I can tell you hardly anyone took the Allen campaign's book reviews seriously. Plus, I think its safe to say Fields of Fire is considered the best Vietnam novel out there by veterans.

There's a reason Webb was able to win in Virginia - arguably the state with a population more tied to the military than any other - over a candidate who should have been unbeatable.
I don't have any problems with Webb. He's worth listening to on shows like MTP unlike the canned liars for the democrat party. He won't turn left enough for the average democrat though, and they'll turn on him. They needed him to win that seat. He'll be tossed aside soon enough.
Maybe the Dem nominee would be better served by chosing former VA Governor Mike Warner as his/her running mate.  Webb should stay in the Senate and cultivate his political career there.  Hopefully someone in Hillary-land is reading this.  If Mark Warner was running for the Dem nomination, he'ld win in a heartbeat as the most electable candidate on both sides [socially conservative democratic governor from southern state who left -due to term limit - with high approval ratings], and the Republicans would certainly lose. Put him on your ticket as VP, and the democrats will have a better chance.
H P Boston--Verbally, Physically, whatever it takes.
Leave Webb in the Senate.  We don't need Senetor Makaka reering his ugly racist head again.  Any running mate chosen by a democrat should not be a senator that has a chance of his or her seat going republican.
Sonya - Just an FYI - Hillary was born and raised in Illinois, I believe, and of course she lived in Arkansas for several years.  Arkansas is more southern than midwest, but IL is definitely midwest.
Paul have you read any of his books.  I can't go into detail because First read won't let me, but while some of the books are pretty good, the graphic sex in it, specially about the father and the little boy in one of them, makes me think that if it is a Clinton/Webb teaming in 08, the republicans will shred them apart.  Hillary is already in a tough fight now, she doesn't need Jim Webb to add to her migraines.  She better pick someone who has nothing in his closet and in politics, not many people have an empty closet.
Paul: Evidently you havent read his book. You sound like your just trying to downplay it like the MSM did to make sure he won the Senate race. BTW George Allen killed himself. If he could have kept his mouth shut for 2 more weeks, he would have won easily. Webb wont win another term. He is not LEFT enough for the liberals....oops Progressives....LOL
Russ Feingold for VP. Just as jewish as Lieberman but not a toad.
Hillary Clinton:

born and raised in Illinois
lived in Arkansas
lived in DC

had to move to New York to sty in the governement

of course she had to run for Senator, due to the lack of homegrown democrats in New York that really do care about their state.  As usual, they had to elect an outsider to teach them what to do.
Mark Warner!!
Dean/Jerry - I have read Fields of Fire. Actually a lot of Marines have as that book is on reading lists for Marine officer PME - don't know about other Services.

Pat - Mark Warner is my choice for a running mate. Not sure he'll make himself available, though.
Webb - he reminds you of the town drunk at the local bar.  Always looking for a fight.  Settle down and have another drink rummy.  Webb's a one termer for sure.
Anyone who insults Jim Webb's writing is insulting the US Marines.

There was an idiotic talking point launched by George Allen's smear campaign about the real-life war experiences included by Jim Webb in his writings and which made his books required reading for all Marine officers.

The problem with this particular extremist, right-wing talking point is that Jim Webb wrote from real-world war experiences... the kind of experiences his attackers never had, because they didn't have the courage to go to war.

Disgusting and pitiful even for the ignorant children of Karl Rove.
Webb just barely squeeked by in Virginia.  Funny thing though, I am sure he will win in a landslide when his term comes up in another five and a half years.  Yet, he is not such a "non-progressive" as some of our right-wingnuts want us to think.  He may have once been a repub but he is no longer.  He is not one of your typical toady suck ups to the wealthy like poor Jerry, Dave etal.
I'd like to see him stay in the Senate.  His career has lots of legs and he can wait.  But, Mark Warner will probably not be the nominee either. More likely, he will be running for the Virginia senate seat up in '08.  If not that, he wants to be Virginia governor in '10.  If he is not running for senate he might take the slot.  I don't know who Hillary would select, but I suspect it isn't one of the current pundant choices.  It might be Pryor, or another southern democrat.  Or she might go with Richardson, if he can keep from making any more questionable statements.  I think she will want a non-senator to balance the ticket.  So, look for a current governor to be her choice.
Josh c         Well you best get the Marines to Corpus Christi  Texas cause there is some guy there bashing the books
Webb wrote.
Quick note J.D. Virginia next elects a governor in 2009, and His Excellency Tim Kaine can't run again (term limits).

Warner basically has to choose whether he wants to be Senator for life or Governor for the next 4 years and then unemployed again. So, he's deciding 2008 or 2009.  2010 is important in Virginia for an entirely different reason: redistricting.  If Dems retake the Senate and House this year, because of the changing demographics of Northern Virginia, they could basically lock VA in as a Blue state for the rest of the 21st century.

AMEN!!!
Josh C  AMEN AMEN
