More on Rozett's departure

It's not yet a presidential campaign, but "Friends of Fred Thompson" is again showing signs of internal growing pains. Just last Friday, Linda Rozett was on the job and putting out releases, but today -- as we mentioned earlier -- she's out as communications director.

In an interview with NBC News, Rozett characterized her unexpected departure as "not a noteworthy event." She added, "My hope is this will be seen for nothing more than [campaign manager] Bill Lacy bringing his own team together. And while it is not my desired outcome, it happens every day in Washington in politics and with high level communications people." Rozett was told Friday.

In an internal memo to the Thompson staff obtained by NBC, Lacy explains his thinking: "I will have to make a lot of tough decisions to make our venture successful, and this was one of them. Linda is a talented, professional and gracious lady who will be missed. But in the limited amount of time we have, I feel it critical to have a communications point person with significant campaign experience."

Rozett was hired by Tom Collamore, who served as Fred Thompson's first manager of the campaign-in-waiting. Collamore and other staffers left in July amid disagreements over how the Thompson bid should be organized. Although published reports indicated that Thompson's wife Jeri had brought Rozett on board, sources say Rozett had never met Jeri Thompson until she joined the team. Sources say Rozett's tie was actually Thompson adviser Ken Rietz.

Rozett adds that despite her abrupt dismissal, she still wants to see Thompson in the race. Rozett tells NBC, "I continue to support Senator Thompson, Bill Lacey, and the committee."

Rozett had left a position at the US Chamber of Commerce to join Thompson's effort.

Bill Lacy joined Thompson August 8th and previously ran Thompson's successful Senate campaign in 1994.

Please just go away---Fred---you are too late to party
I sometimes wonder if he waited too long.  In May and June there seemed to be alot of fire for the guy but, now, I don't sense that same upbeat feel from republican.
I know they are trying to find someone to run that inspires them.  I think a year ago alot of them were hyped on Guillianni.  then when Obama came along for us, alot of republicans started to complain about why they couldn't have an Obama of their own.
As an Obama supporter and democrat, I have seen on his site republicans throwing in with him.
It is kind of a strange phenomenon.  But, I chalk this up to the fact that they want a president to make them feel good about america and proud like Reagan did and Obama gives off these same feelings again.  That kind of Morning in america feeling again.
Oh this is nothing more than organizational therapy. It is just that Fred leaves so little to talk about right now that an ant looks like a dog to the media.

It's a campaign. Everyone involved wants to be credited with something to do with creating a President. To be known by the man. Some grow up to be a Rove. Nothing is much better for the Bill Lacy's of the world than to bring in the winning horse.

However the Turks who do the websites and the Rozetts and  Collamores are connected in a way that makes Linda part of the old thinking.

It is the fiercest of small internal politics. You are working for money however the thing that keeps you awake at night is who likes who and who said what and did Fred see yu and the buzz about Jeri, etc.

All Fred can do is hire his Rove and hope the decision was exceptional. It would be wonderful if all his critics could do one half of what Fred has done. He gets up one morning and tosses a rock in the pond and makes world class waves. I would like to see half of Congress do as well.

To bad there are so many that only see the shortcomings. To be a critic is to say "I could do better" You couldn't.

Yeah, just hang it up, Freddy. Please.
This is another non-story ginned up by the fact that all these political reporters have to justify their existence.

I'd like to see Fred run. Sooner, or later, doesn't matter; if he has fresh ideas, let's see them. Otherwise all these articles about the inside-baseball aspect is just mental masturbation.
Who will rescue the GOP? Gingrich in '08!!!
I hope that Fred will use the intelligence that he exhibits on T.V. . It is a safe bet that pundits will try to confuse his intentions with mundane, debatable questions about gay rights, abortion etc.  If Fred is smart he will reply with the fact that these subjects are only answered on a case by case level. The general public is almost evenly divided on these subjects and any direct reply will automatically polarize the publuc and work against him.  I stress that he take a long pause before abswering any direct questions. Use the personaity he has developed on TV to advantage.  He should answer all questions with a smile of confidence (Re: Clinton) and speak slowly and cautiously.  There is nothing wrong with having a College Professor attitude toward the job of President.
