Per a source close to the White House, ex-Deputy Attorney General George J. Terwilliger III is "looking very good" to replace Alberto Gonzales. Former Solicitor General Ted Olson and former appellate judge Laurence Silberman are "also in the running." And Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and former deputy Attorney General Larry Thompson "are unlikely."

It's a sad, sad situation
It's sad, so sad
Why can't we talk it over
Oh it seems to me
That sorry seems to be the hardest word

Same old retreads---it never ends with this regime---pull them out of their dusty closets.Bush cannot seem to get out of the fiftys or sixties----or the red states-----
Hows about Senator Larry Craig of Idaho. The guy that was looking for gay sex in the airport bathroom. Hed be a great choice!
Hariette!  Hariette! We need an AG who thinks Bush is the most brilliant man she's ever met. Apparently none of her law school professors could read.
Why not stretch, Georgie-boy ?
Appoint someone COMPETENT !!
Try to avoid cronies and lick spittles !!

Yet another Bush crony (he was the head of Bush's legal team during the Florida recount in 2000)
At least this one actually has experience being a lawyer and working with the DOJ.
Like I said yesterday he should pick James Comey who stood up to Gonzalez and Card at Ashcroft's bedside.
Jerry you notice you are the only one who cares about Hillary and the Chinese ...no news there ...
Jerry, you do realize that Wen Ho Lee was vindicated, right?  Of course there's this; http://www.buzzflash.com/analysis/03/05/19_spy.html
shrub is not in charge. Call Fox Noise if you want to know what is going on.
Bush needs to appoint someone who can continue Alberto Gonzales' voter suppression work that is vital for the Republican election chances, especially in the south. Jeb Bush and Katherine Harris have the experience needed. Jeb Bush would be a brilliant choice because he could divert any critism by pointing to Bobbie Kennedy.
You can always count on jerry to change the subject. I guess he doesn't care who is the Attorney General of the United States.
LET ME SEE, WE HAVE GONZO, A 2ND-RATE AMBULANCE CHASER, WHO BECAME THE SHRUB'S MEXICAN WHITE HOUSEBOY, DIRECTED BY THE SLEAZY AMMORAL BRAIN, TO DISMANTLE THE US CONSTITUTION, SO AS TO CREATE A PERMANENT GOP MAJORITY FOR THE 21ST CENTURY....THE ONLY CHOICE IS SOMEONE OF THE SAME ILK: UNCLE JEB!!!!
Joe Lieberman?
Dubya will have to go with someone who has hd little to no contact with the inner-circle of his administration, who is politically moderate, if he wants to get them confirmed, and past the Senate Judiciary Committee. He WILL NOT TAP MICHAEL CHERTHOFF! He cannot afford to wage 2 confirmation battles. Ask me, he should go with a federal judge like Brett Kavanaugh or J. Harvie Wilkinson, both of whom are very extinguished, impeccibly intelligent federal appellate court judges.
Bush does not have enouph intellegece to pick someone competent.

I heard nobody wants the job...to have their reputations ruined, to have their lives destroyed, to go down in history as a flunky for Bush who broke laws and rules for the boss. Hey who wants the job? I'll double the pay!
I nominate "Underdog," he'll take a bite out of crime and Vick.

"When criminals in this world appear,
And break the laws that they should fear,
And frighten all who see or hear,
The cry goes up both far and near for
Underdog! Underdog! Underdog! Underdog!"

they're probably offering a million dollars a year-and nobodys taking.
The Congress won't let any old cronies of shrub in (unless they're as gutless in this as they've been in everything else this term), so maybe they WILL pick Comey. No wait, bush only rewards incompetent people who suck up to him, not guys who show integrity and stand up to his lackies...sorry...I forgot.  But Comey would be a great choice...
I say he should pick jerry!  After all, he is as brain dead as bush, loyal like Barney and probably wags his tail in the mens room
Bush will appoint someone very competent.  The Democrat Senate will block the appointment just because their constituents will knee-jerk their loyal opposition into high gear and then confirm someone very incompetent.  We all know that a truly competent AG will go after BOTH parties, right?

The other alternative is to appoint someone incompetent he doesn't want, the Senate will reject it and then confirm the 2nd and real choice.

Remember, Rove is still lurking around.
Oh, and one other thing.

He's not going pick anyone based on the advice in this blog.
i say george bush should pick democratic presidential candidate richardson from new mexico for the A.G. possition.
Richard, Washinton State:  Actually the DOJ should be going after people who have enough evidence surrounding them to justify an investigation.  Not "BOTH parties" as you stated.  The vast majority of the indictments DOJ has brought in corruption cases have been against Republicans and that is with an obviously partisan AG.  Just because the Democrats don't get indicted for crimes doesn't show favoritism.  It indicates that the Democrats aren't corrupt.
Actually, the hypothetical of picking a "Democrat" as a replacement has a certain perverse intrigue.  Imagine the Democrat congress trying to look non-political when they start pressuring the new AG to start investigating only Republicans.

On the other hand we could possibly look forward to a scene of Shameless Schumer slipping and falling on his own drool as he considers the "possibilities".
Bush should pick H P. That way we can prove even a moran can do it.
Sorry, John Doe.  You are hopelessly naive to believe that there are fewer corrupt Democrat politicians.  The ratio is probably somewhere near 1:1.  If there are 10 corrupt Republican senators, there are 10 Democrats to match.  Use whatever number you want.

It seems that being "holier than thou" is acceptable under your own conditions.  It's hypocritical and arrogant as well and if you don't go into denial you will someday notice that your halo is a bit dim.

You are becoming what you hate.  Be careful.
Dubya and his buddies don't want to pick anyone who may later be willing to charge them with high crimes under our own laws.
