Fred's in -- finally

Posted: Thursday, August 30, 2007 4:14 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC's Kelly O'Donnell and Lauren Appelbaum
After three months of "testing the waters" and testing the patience of some Republican supporters, Fred Dalton Thompson will seek his party's nomination.

This afternoon in a conference call with invited supporters and participants, Thompson political director Randy Enwright explained the next steps for  the "Friends of Fred Thompson Committee."

Taking a page from the Hillary Clinton playbook, the formal announcement will debut on a webcast on Thursday, September 6. It will be followed by a swing through key states: Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina. And it will conclude with a "Welcome Home" in Lawrenceburg, TN on the 15th.

fred who?
Go Fred Go!!!  Go LSU Go!!!  I like water!!!
Hoorah. Welcome to the rat race, or is that the race of rats...

Take the high road Fred. Because the low road is getting crowded.

imwithfred.com   imwithfred.com  imwithfred.com
better then any democrat that i have seen so far.
You had me at "maybe" Fred!
Yawn
Hopefully now they will finally stop playing his Law and Order re-runs.
Is Jack McCoy going to be his running mate?
Is he really that different than the rest of them???

NO!
Im so glad he is running
He is all but certain to be the Republican nominee. At least that will provide a candidate we disaffected Democrats can vote for if the feminist wingnuts succeed in foisting Hillary Clinton off on us....another crooked globalization nutcase is something this country doesn't need. At least Thompson recognizes that outsourcing jobs and H1-B visas are bad for this country.
I've been anxiously waiting for this dynamic, good-looking man to enter the race for Pres. Now, we'll see some action.  Way to go, Fred
Finally, someone worth voting for.
Stay clean and stay out of public restrooms!  You've got my vote.
Yes! Now there is hope for something different in the race. I'm am sick and tired of the same ole, same ole!
After Fred's announcement that he feels roe v wade should be overturned and that he is in favor of an amendment to the constitution banning gay marriage, not only will I not vote for him but I no longer watch Law & Order.  Gay people and straight people who feel that gays should have the same rights to marry as any other citizen should in an act of civil disobedience refuse to pay taxes. Maybe then we'll be as important to this country, at least our money will.
Bring it Freddie! Exactly what the Dems did not want!
Go!!! FRED Go!!!, You have a huge supporter in Eastern Kentucky.  JAMJ41224
IT'S ABOUT TIME! I think Fred Has done the right thing at the right time. All this way-too-early campaigning
has left most Americans (including me) DRAINED!
I think Fred can stand up to and against any of the field of democrats waiting to have a Howard Dean Moment!
GO FRED!
Whoop-de-doo.
I guess if a lazy, no-nothing wanna-be actor like Reagan can be elected, than I suppose Fred can too.
mrbail.com   who's fred

Oh man...months and months of "will he or won't he" and now this is just an announcement of the announcement?  Just say you are running and be done with it already.
Hey Fred, don't forget what you said on Leno the other week.  Let me remind you of that, you said you would officially announce your run for president on Leno, KEEP THAT PROMISE or else I'll vote for Clinton!!!!!!!!!!!
as a friend of fred , I was waiting for this day, cant wait to hear it offically. President Fred Thompson. I like how it sounds he is what America needs right now. I'm with you Mr. future PRESIDENT!!!
Take note the reaction. Can't win without the center.
better than anyone else out there saying they are going to run...

Does anyone know why the candidates don't make a stop in Dallas?
When was fred not running for president his speech to the VFW or when he took mike moore on or when he hired a campaign manager who just quit, seems to this ole counrty boy the fox has been in the hen house for awhile wath out rudy he isnt going to be as nice as the democrats.
Nes Flash: Fred Thompson cast in new role as conservative politician. America needs someone who is genuinely devoted to public service...& Fred ain't it.
FANTASTIC!!!!! Finally, a truly conservative leader.
Speak your clear-thinking, common sense mind and show the way to all Republicans, Democrats, and Independents alike who are looking for an honest, positive voice.
I like Fred Thompson - hes a real tough guy - when I seen him on the TV he was a cop or secret agent or something and he didn't take no nuthin offa nobody and he would make a good president cause hes got a real pretty teenage wife and I like to look at her bettern I like to look at that Hiliry woman and Fred is a movie acter two and hes got experience being real tough and hes even in a movie with a monkey - no wait thats that other movie actor president - I think - anyway Fred is real tough and he wudn't let no bunch of Iraqui muslim terrists blow up our buildings like that Bill Clinton let Sadam do in New York City and hes got a real pretty wife and I like to look at her and hes so tough there wudn't be no more terrists no more. That all I got to say.
im so sorry I have to post it ,its to obvious Freds finally in.... is that what his wife said get it get it Once again im sorry but come on that is just too easy.
I finally have a candidate that I am excited about.  Go Fred Go!!!
Carol is staying clean marring two women,a Divorce real good defence of marriage .Oh way to stay engaged after 911 ,him and tommy Franks should have done a book tour" how I retired from the war on terror to do other things that are more important".
Just remember, he does have non Hodgkins lymphoma. Consider that.
Look at the repugs salivate! Compared to Bush, Fred looks like Abe Lincoln. Compared to Abe Lincoln, though, he looks like Paris Hilton. Go Home, Fred, Go home!
Cant wait to hear all the dirt on this guy. His wifes dirt too. Me thinks its gonna be a hoot! Time to filet this fish.
republicans = bad
Oh, goody.  Another cro-magnon social conservative bent on undoing everything we could rationally call "progress."  And he's even a Republican!  God hates fags and brown people.  God bless America.  God, I'm going to be sick.

Go Ron Paul.
He's tough on TV.....elect him?  What are you people smoking up in here?

What's the difference between McCain, Thompson & Bush?  I can't tell, thank you.
Pam, Los Angeles, Ca - You are obviously a Clinton "ringer". This is their "talking point" on all of the web sites. They are apparently convinced that Thompson will be the Republican nominee and apparently want to start their usual campaign of lies and mud slinging early. This is just another reason why no self respecting Democrat would even think of voting for Clinton. Four more years of the kind of lies, distortions, and grand standing we have experienced under Bush and Bill Clinton before him, is something we do not need as a nation.

First off, Fred Thompson said no such things. Go read his statement. What he said was, he thought the Supreme Court had over reached in Roe vs. Wade and that this was a state issue, not a federal privacy issue. That is a very very diferent thing than overturning Roe. About half of the states have legislation that legalized abortion already, so this whole thing amount to a big nothing.

As for "Gay Rights", only a fool supports this legislation. So far, the bills passed have been used by "Gay Rights" advocates to jerk churches around for preaching from the pulpit that homosexuality is a sin, to sue parents of children who use phrases like "that's so gay" in a derogatory manner, etc. It has nothing to do with protecting homosexuals from actual descrimination and you well know it!
Yea! Fred's on the run and now to ensure Don Imus is his Vice Presidental running mate. Citizens could finally enjoy a Presidency that'll kick Congress where it counts! It's almost like having Hillary and Al Sharpton running as a blessed pair of Democrats.

That's what the republicans were missing, now they finally have a 60ish, right-wing, white guy to spice up the group.

Van
here come the clowns
republicans = bye bye middle class
Fred Thompson running for president?  Isn't he a district attorney or something like that?  I thought you couldn't be part of both the legislative and judiciary branch of the government. Oh wait, he's a district attorney on TV.... my mistake!  This guy is a joke... it reminds me of that movie "Man of the Year".  Is this what American politics has come down to?  Unbelievable!
I hope he gets his dentures fixed.  He almost lost them the other day when he was talking...as for the Trophy Wife....get out your Madri Gras beads!
Since Rick Perry was invited to the Bilderberg meeting, I guess it will be a Thompson-Perry ticket. Karl Rove will run it by Iphone. Mary Maitilin is already on board.
Go Granpa, Go!
I am very political, but am so very tired of all this early campaigning. 1st it is listen to the hope and good stuff, then 2nd it is throwing digs at each other, Bush is to blame for anything and everything, Thompson parading around month after month like he thinks he has a "sure win". I have always been a Repug, but frankly the right wing makes me a little sick and most these guys know they have to say all the right things for pleasing their party.  At least Guilliani is honest and not playing up to the extreme right wing!!  I am lost...think there is noone to vote for either side!!  Scary scary
