Last night's debate

Posted: Thursday, September 06, 2007 9:20 AM by Mark Murray

The Washington Post says the debate “was among the liveliest of the year. Once past an opening question about the missing Thompson, the candidates turned on one another. Romney, Giuliani, McCain and Rep. Tom Tancredo (Colo.) sparred over immigration. McCain chastised Romney over his reluctance to say the "surge" policy in Iraq is clearly working. Huckabee and Rep. Ron Paul (Tex.) clashed over whether the United States should stay in Iraq or get out.”

The Boston Globe’s lead is Romney attacking Giuliani on immigration. "But in the first debate of the fall campaign season, both Romney and Giuliani struggled to keep their balance amid sideswipes from Senator John McCain of Arizona, who sharply questioned Romney's assessment of the situation in Iraq and Giuliani's level of experience."

Ron Paul's camp ought to feel good that they made it into AP's lead on the debate.

The Chicago Tribune leads with the barbs at Thompson and highlights the Huckabee-Paul back-and-forth up high in its piece.

The Union Leader is one of the few papers to note -- up high -- the candidates' responses on Larry Craig. "Although candidates were asked their thoughts on the recent scandal, none outright condemned his actions."

The Des Moines Register's Yepsen gave the debate to McCain and Huckabee and called Thompson the big loser.

CBN's Brody joins Yepsen in concluding that McCain and Huckabee came out on top.

Also, McCain won the Luntz focus group that was featured on Fox News.

The American Spectator’s Rubin also notes how McCain helped himself by playing the role of "sober" adult.

Despite these positive reviews for McCain, the Union Leader notes that McCain’s supporters at the debate "were virtually nonexistent, not one of his signs in sight as he struggles to keep his campaign afloat in a summer rife with staff and budget cuts."

By the way, despite the controlled media opinion, Ron Paul has won 5 of the past 6 straw polls. People are rising up across the land in support of this man. Isn't that news worthy material?

Lets send a clear message to the media this election, it's about the Message NOT the Money.
Ron Paul certainly is not a media choice and this shows in the manner he is being treated. whether or not he is the next President may depend upon how voters judge the media's slanted reporting to vote-steer them away from Ron Paul as their choice.
"How many Americans have to die in this war before Mike Huckabee saves face?  Answer:  It doesn't matter.  We can't care about them.  We must have our honor back."

We never bought the line "either you are with us or with the terrorists" and we ain't buying it now either.  Lives are on the line and all Mr. Huckabee cares about that he looks "good."  Well, sir, what if we can never leave that country with honor?  What then?  How many have to die before you are man enough to admit a mistake?

Sir, you sicken me.
Ron Paul is a naive fool who cannot or does not want understand the complex and dangerous world in which we live. His candidacy poses a grave danger to our nation and should be challanged and rejected.
I would like to thank the MSM for ignoring Ron Paul, who's constant ignoring and slander of him has caused and fueled this huge grassroots movement as the truth is plain for everyone to see.

The majority of Americans believe in conservative policies.  That is why GWB was elected.  70% of the people are against the war in Iraq.  It doesn't take rocket science, which means that without a doubt the media is trying to keep a lid on it.   And again, thank you for doing that and creating this overwhelming support as people are waking up to the fact they must do it themselves as the media is no longer serving the interest of the people.
I'm a fifteen year registered Republican and I fully support Ron Paul.  Dr. Paul is far more inline with Republican philosophy then the Bush administration.
Its quite alarming how much the main stream media is trying to silence Paul and his candidacy. The FOX debate was the first time I got a chance to sit down and listen to all the GOP candidates including Ron Paul.

I honestly believe that Ron Paul won this debate soundly. Why am I not seeing enough of this reported in the larger media outlets?

Have I become that far out of touch or do these media outlets have an agenda that opposes the platform placed forth by Paul?

I guess freedom of the press these days means ~ free to report whatever they please as long at it satisfies the needs of the corporate interests groups and the establishment.

It saddens me deeply to see what this country has become and where it is headed.

From what I saw last night ~ Ron Paul is the only candidate that gives me hope for change.
I am voting Ron Paul.
Ron Paul wins another debate with his moral genius. I will be voting for  the only traditional conservative in the race. I will be voting for Ron Paul in 2008!

Who is Ron Paul?
