*** Bill (Lacy) and Fred’s Excellent Adventure: More than 90 days have passed since Fred Thompson established his "testing the waters" committee. And in those three months, nothing seemed to go right for the budding campaign. Critics panned Thompson’s speeches; key staffers departed; the newspapers uncovered that he once lobbied for a pro-choice group (and the campaign flopped on the initial response to those stories); wife Jeri became a household name (and not necessarily in a good way); and everyone wondered out loud: “When is he going to in?” Well, he answered that last night on Leno, when he officially declared his candidacy. And his official announcement tour -- which begins today in Iowa and also includes a new campaign video -- allows him to start over and earn some positive press. It’s his time to shine, and if there was ever an opening for someone to virtually come out of nowhere and win the GOP nod, this is it. But those rough three months have left him with little margin for error here on out.

*** Last night’s winners: There were three clear winners last night: Giuliani, Huckabee, and Thompson. Yes, Thompson -- he came out a winner within the first five minutes, thanks to the moderator’s opening question about the candidate-to-be’s decision to go on Leno instead of showing up for this debate. The fact that every candidate (including Giuliani, Romney, Huckabee, and even McCain) took potshots reinforced the idea that the entire GOP field views him as a major candidate. In fact, most of the debate leads this morning included the Thompson shots. The Thompson folks could not have asked for a better setup. As for the winners who actually participated, Giuliani’s performance was particularly strong -- perhaps his best debate to date. He’s clearly comfortable being the front-runner; he absorbs the attacks from opponents without looking as if that opponent matters. His strongest answers were in defense of NOT signing the no-tax pledge and on guns, but his roughest moment was his shaky answer to the family-values questioner. Meanwhile, Huckabee doing well at a debate is about as common as the sun rising in the east. In particular, the exchange with Ron Paul where Huckabee got to defend McCain, defend the surge, and also call Iraq a mistake was, we dare say, a mix of Reagan and Clinton.

*** The Loser? From our perspective, it was Romney. He certainly didn’t have any friends among the debate questioners and the diner patrons, and that kept him on the defensive all night. Romney’s got to figure out how to turn all these attacks into a positive; Wednesday night was not a great night for the candidate who’s ahead (per the polls) in the early states. As for the rest, McCain won Luntz’s focus group and was praised in several post-debate analyses. But to us, his performance was not dominating, though his lecturing of Romney about the surge was a TV scene-stealer. At times, he was funny and loose; at other times, he was overly serious and a bit tight. Brownback seems less and less relevant (why did he stay in after his poor Ames Straw poll showing?); Tancredo seemed almost a non-factor; Hunter is very good at playing the Patriot card (but what part of the party does he represent that the front-runners don’t?); Paul was as angry as he’s been -- at one point, we wondered why he just didn’t scream, “Hey kids, GET OFF MY LAWN!”

*** Snake I’s? Today, Biden finds himself in Iraq, just days after he declared that he needs to finish second or third in Iowa. In fact, it's all about the "I"s with Biden: Iraq and Iowa. No one seems to come across more credibly on Iraq than Biden does, but he can't seem to get traction. Perhaps it's that he doesn't seem “new,” or that what folks do know of him isn't presidential. He's certainly done nothing to hurt his chances of becoming a key cog in a future Dem administration, but he can't seem to gain traction among the Democratic elite: from trial lawyers to labor (two constituencies that would have been with him under other circumstances). All in all, Biden is a candidate who is performing well at the big events (i.e. debates, key TV interviews), but isn't breaking through in the early states. No wonder he decided to go Iowa or bust.

*** On The Trail: The day after the GOP debate, Giuliani travels to Minnesota and Illinois; Huckabee campaigns in New Hampshire and appears on FOX and Friends in the morning; McCain is in DC then raises money in California; Romney fundraises in New York; and Tancredo holds a town hall meeting in Merrimack, NH. On the Democratic side, Dodd holds a conference call with reporters to discuss his legislation to reform sub-prime lending practices; Edwards picks up the Transport Workers Union’s endorsement in New York; and Obama holds a town hall in Las Vegas before heading to San Francisco.

Brilliant commentary there on Paul.  That's the best you can come up with, likening him to a cranky old man?   How did you people get jobs, by toeing the Republican party line??
NY based Transport Workers Union endorses Edwards!

http://www.guardian.co.uk/worldlatest/story/0,,-6900503,00.html

WooHoo!  John Edwards will be a great President!
GOOD MORNING AMERICA,IT'S TIME TO IMPEACH GEORGE W. BUSH.LET'S GET 'ER DONE,BECAUSE HE "SUCKS". THAT IS ALL.
this report is a bias piece of shit!  Don't let these fuckers tell you what to think.  Here's an idea America;  WATCH IT FOR YOURSELVES!  MAKE UP YOUR OWN MIND ON WHO HIT THE RIGHT ISSUSES.

Ron Paul is mad because very quick there will be no America as we know it.  And the people trying to tell you how to think are afraid of him continuing to point that out.
"Paul was as angry as he’s been -- at one point, we wondered why he just didn’t scream, “Hey kids, GET OFF MY LAWN!”

anyone with half a brain can understand mr. pauls anger, he had to stand there and listen to the media's candidates talk b.s. , he was the only one on stage that made any credible comments, he nailed why the repub's think we should stay in iraq, to save face and not have to admit iraq was a mistake, the honor blather is completely bogus, american kids are getting killed so a handful of politicians can save face, may they rot in hell
oh god please not another actor...well at least this one is up front about being an actor...and he gets paid for it....the other wannabes are actors and wont admit it.
I have to wonder why hillary clinton wasn't in the debate since her plans for iraq and the u.s. parallel most of the republican candidates, giuliani should ask hillary to be his running mate since they both hate people that work for a living so much, and of course they are both devoid of any morals, hell they could even try on one another’s dresses
###### I M P E A C H    B U S H  ######
Wow, not much to say about Ron Paul even though his comments were the most different, the most idealistic and realistic.  Well it's better than nothing... Geez choosing between MSNBC, CNN, and FOX is like choosing between Bush, Clinton, and Guliani.... the least of all evils.
There is no puzzle to the lukewarm reception Biden is getting. Biden's plan will keep troops in Iraq for several more years, if not indefinitely, chasing the mirage of success. I think the plan is doomed; you can't impose a political solution that isn't wanted. He may be credible, he may even be correct, but I can't bring myself to vote for that -- it just isn't worth it and never was.
The losers last night were the American people who were propagandized with the worst kind of divisive polarizing hot-button politics. None of them are even going through the pretense that Bush used of bringing us together.

"Hey kids, get off my lawn"?

More like: "Hey kids!  Come home!  Be safe!  The people in this country value your lives!"
Gee !!
Why aren't more people excited about Joe Biden ?
He wears nice suits !
He's a DC insider
He's 'experienced'
What's wrong ??

I hope people aren't holding Joe's Iraq vote against him.
He didn't know it was going to be such a big disaster.
It wasn't his fault!
All the smart people told him to vote for the Iraq War.
Why are people picking on Joe, now ?
Why don't they pick on the smart people who told Joe to vote for the Iraq war ?
Joe was just trying to look 'Presidential'
Everybody makes mistakes !!
Hey !! Listen to Joe's new Iraq plan !!
He'll split IRAQ INTO 3 PARTS !!
Is that a good plam ?
He can change it if you like !!
The smart people told him you'd REALLY LIKE IT !!
It's supposed to make him look 'Presidential' !!
Fred is obviously positioning himself for the 2016 Elections.
When will the poll numbers move? Senator Clinton leads by more than the margin of error over both Senator Obama and Edwards COMBINED. Whatever someone wants to say about polls and sample sizes, that big a difference, now going on five months, means SOMETHING, no matter how you slice it.

"There is little change in the race for the Democratic Presidential Nomination. New York Senator Hillary Clinton attracts 43% of the vote from Likely Democratic Primary Voters. Barack Obama is currently the top choice for 24% of Likely Democratic Primary voters while John Edwards attracts 12% (see recent daily numbers). New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson earns 4% of the vote. Delaware Senator Joe Biden and Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich each attract 3% support.

Clinton is viewed favorably by 81% of Democrats and unfavorably by 17%. Obama is viewed favorably by 66% of those in his party, unfavorably by 28%. Forty-four percent (44%) have a Very Favorable opinion of Clinton while 31% say the same about Obama.

Clinton leads Obama by 29 points among women and six points among men."

While Republican are discussing policy in N.Hampshire, a couple of democrooks are discussing which lawyers to hire in N.Jersey....

TRENTON, N.J. —  Eleven public officials from across New Jersey, including a mayor and two state lawmakers, were arrested Thursday in a federal corruption probe, the U.S. Attorney's office said. Two Democratic senators, Wayne Bryant of Lawnside and Sharpe James of Newark, are facing pending federal corruption charges.
But they are liberals and crooked is ok, so long as no one is hurt. And we know they are, so it's not hypocritcal.
McCain was the clear winner for the following reasons:
(1) He is the only military leader and understands the military. He will be the best in winning and leading this War
(2) He has the most experience with National security.
(3) He will be the best leader in getting us out of Irac
(4) He is committed to immigration reform- he will build that wall first.  The Arizona Senator knows about immigration first hand from Arizona.
(5) He knows how to get congress together to make things happen. (some critisize but it is an art-form)
I am tired of the the sqwabling in congress aren't you?
All of the other candidates refered to him and praised him.  He is the most "Presidential. He clearly won the debate. don't you think?
IT'S NOW 11A.M. AND BUSH CONTINUES TO SUCK !
a) Nobody watches Leno anymore. Everybody watches Letterman (sorry NBC)
b) There can be no winner(s) when it comes to a GOP (Gay Old Pedophile) Presidential debate. Because, this group is filled with nothing but losers. (Thomspon included)
Sorry but your GOP debate review above doesn't treat Ron Paul with nearly the respect he deserves. He actually had an amazing amount of support from the audience and his courage in standing up to the rest of the war mongering candidates (and FOX moderators) was inspirational. I loved his comeback to Brit Hume when he said his marching orders came from the constitution, not Al Qaeda.

In his heated exchange with Huckabee, Paul also came out on top. Guys like Huckabee drive me nuts. You can't insist all life is "sacred" on one hand then think that it's perfectly OK if people die for the sake of "honor" on the other. Interesting that pride is the new reason we can't leave Iraq.

It's really too bad that the traditional Republican viewpoint of minding your own business instead of everyone else's has morphed into the preachy, sanctimonious, idealogical attitude we see today.
Is there anyone else out there who thinks that Romney tanked? His answers were hofficially weak. And how about the slip on abortion? Bad news...

Over the past few weeks I have had numerous post either never posted or posted hours later, so my question is, is this a left wing conspericy or a right wing conspericy or just plain incompetence?
J Merle, you sure write about the GOP a lot for someone that isn't too worried about them.

Maybe you are worried?  Maybe just a little?  Maybe more then a little?
Van,

When are you going to stop pushing Clinton on us in this blog? By now you should know that We're not a big fan of MSM candidate. Please stop this nonsense of pushing your candidate on us. We are more focus on exposing the thing MSM failed to focus on...get it.
Sierra - Partioning Iraq into three different zones based on ethnicity is not a bad idea.  Although it is (or was) a sovereign nation, Iraq as a nation has never really made sense, much the same way Yugoslovia and the USSR didn't make a lot of sense.  All three are (or were) forced marriages between vastly different groups of people for the sake of geopolitical efficiency and power.
Ron Paul is a world classer thinker.  I put him up there with Alfred North Whitehead, Emmanuel Kant, and William F. Buckley.  He has brains where other people have moles.
These debates are really getting tiresome...on both sides. I found myself drifting off from the repetitive and totally predictable answers. If only all of the problems of today could be solved with 1 minute answers. These 8-10 person debates with short answers are nothing but a endless series of media driven sound bites. I don't know what the solution is, but these debates get us nowhere.

A month ago I was sick of all these Ron Paul fans filling up blogs.  I decided to check him out, and now he's got my vote.
Carrie, just wondering if what is good for the goose is also good for the gander. Let's partition the US and put all of the Neocon bloodthirsty warmongers and Evangelical Christian Nation builders in one part and the rest of us in the other.
I have  to comment on the bloggers here. Some of youu are a fine mess. The fact that you don't know anything about what you speak and then commentsuch nonsense about what you don't know or pretend to know blows my mind~! For one, get over impeaching Bush, NOT going to happen. Two- Get over Ron Paul, that man is a joke, made me laugh alot last night. And Three- get in the game of reality and learn to accept the truth about the war on terror. It is real, it is here to stay, and the only way we all will survive is if you learn to be supportive of the troops that are saving your life right about now. True story.
Toris some people try to force the candidate they pefer.  We LIKE HILLARY, WE TRUST HILLARY,  WE WILL VOTE FOR SENATOR CLINTON.  You may like and vote for someone else, your choice.
Van keep up your great postings, many of us support you. We also agree with you wholeheartedly.
Those who do not, hey post your own thoughts.
Toris...please let him continue.  He has become as disliked as she is...so everything he says and does simply reenforces the disdain for Hillay.  Personally i just scroll pass everthing that his name attached as most people probably do.

BTW...did anyone notice that Hillary copied Edwards music from his earlier ad for her new one !!!  Nothing new from this lady.  Obama campaign fund raising ideas now Edwards Ads theme

All you will get is same ole thing
AL KS  the cure is do not watch them. Simple!
Read about it after the fact, no need to also look at the ugly duds.
People don't like Ron Paul, but if they weren't so stupid they would.
JB Florida,
When did Rove tell the Justice Department to arrest them?  I hope he didn't want them arrested before the mid-term elections.  A delay like that can get a person fired under this regime.
I think I have heard enough whining from the Ron Paul supporters.  In one sentence they say the Iraq war is killing our kids.  Well, the last time I remembered, to enlist in the military you needed to be 18 and an adult.  The men and women serving our military are the best our country has to offer.  Quit talking about them like they are children and give them the respect they deserve.  Each and everyone in the armed services is there by choice.  America has not drafted anyone to serve.  Fred Thompson said he does not know why you would need to start campaigning early and can get his message across in a few months.  Well, Mr. Thompson, Sen. McCain has been campaigning and meeting with people for a long time, doing town hall meetings, not just pep rally's many of the candidates enjoy, which is more fluff and little substance.  Participate in those town hall meetings and you will get the long answers you are looking for on the tough questions.  Sen. McCain is the only one ready to lead this country to Peace.
GOOD MORNING AMERICA!! IT'S TIME TO EXPOSE THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY FOR WHAT IT IS!!! THEY HAVE NO VISION, NO CLUE, AND NO CHANCE!!!
For someone whose wife worked on the Webb campaign I am puzzled by you criticizing someone elses enthusiasm.  You are a schmuck, and the fact that Dr. Paul is saying the things that your Dems are too spineless to say comes out in your piece.  People are dying over a lie and it is making us less safe.  We are going to start a war with Iran that will bankrupt us and you can't understand why somebody would be heated when the other side resorts to intellectually dishonest vague platitutudes?  Huckabee cited his mother for his policy decision.  I can't wait until the Revolution takes out you predictable, out of touch, access monkeys once and for all.
Toris...please let him (Van) continue.

Obama campaign fund raising ideas now Edwards Ads theme

mikeeg: I've had the same problem.
Post early in the day.
Post on the latest articles, not  the old ones.
Good luck !!

Carrie:
I REALLY RESENT stupid old Joe posing as an 'expert'
HE BLEW IT ON IRAQ !!
He voted for war !
He supported the war !!
He was a bad as the rest !!
The US ISN'T GOING TO 'FIX' IRAQ !!
We've brought nothing but death and destruction to a people that never threatened us, never attacked us and never wanted war with us !!!

Listen to Ron Paul, time to leave !!
We've created enough of a mess, already

Don't keep trying to steal their oil
Don't keep trying to loot their economy !!
Don't keep trying to control the Middle East !!
Joe Biden and the American government care NOTHING about the well being of people in the Middle East !!

Joe, please DON'T KEEP PRETENEDING YOU DO !!
I read all these idiots supporting other candidates and not Ron Paul and I want to pewk
Please, mention in the article about Fox Cell Phone Poll result.

Van tlaks about facts.  well hear id a fact, Ron Paul does not need facts to win.  so you can forget about all that stuff nobody reads anyway!
Tom Tancredo is the only candidate that has a clue about the real issue and that is the mess with illegal immigration. John McCain has only lately figured this out or been forced to change his position and I am not convinced by his change. To say Tancredo was a non factor is an insult and would not be close to the truth if the issue of Illegal immigration was not to hot to be properly discussed.
Where is my man Grimey?  I thought he was on here last night.  He is one of the smart guys who I would like to convert to Ron Paul.  Grimy if you read this check in please!  We need you.
Mike Lee; I support the troops always because for twenty odd years I was one of them I DO NOT support the president. "You can support the troops without supporting the president....Tom Delay during the Bosnian  war (the one where we didn't lose a single soldier).
JB Florida:
