Rudy: Olson ‘good for all Americans’

Posted: Friday, September 14, 2007 2:10 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC/NJ's Matthew Berger
BATON ROUGE, La. -- Giuliani defended Ted Olson today as a choice for U.S. attorney general.

"Having Ted Olson as Attorney General wouldn’t just be good for Republicans, it would be good for Democrats,” Giuliani told San Francisco radio station KFSO. “It would be good for all Americans."

Giuliani and Olson have been friends since 1981, and Olson is a campaign advisor. He is headlining a “Lawyers for Rudy” event in Atlanta Monday. Olson, who served as President Bush's solicitor general, has been accused by Senate Democrats of being overly partisan, largely because of his role in the 2000 Supreme Court case that decided the presidential election.

Giuliani said Olson was ethical and knew how to separate his political views from professional responsibilities.

"He believes passionately in the Republican Party,” Giuliani said, “but my goodness, who is a Republican president going to appoint? Is he going to go appoint Democrats? I mean that doesn’t make any sense.  Every once in a while you do that, but that isn’t generally what you do."

My goodness indeed.

Who needs non-partisan competence at Justice?  Not in Rudy's America, no sir!!
It is time to drop the charade and admit that Rudy is Bush's annointed successor.
HIS RUDENESS needs to talk for the puckers .He will have the same consensus as bush.He already divides us and uses democrats as the enemy now he is telling them what is good for them.STOP talking to the people like we are mindless automotons
Wasn't Olsen the one who was the Republicans' guy to get Clinton impeached?  If so, 1.) He is NOT a bipartisan choice, especially on abuses of power over the "war on terror" at DoJ, since he lost his wife on 9/11, and 2.) No Dem worth anything (not that this buch in Congress really are) would vote in a guy that partisan.
Say NO to Ted, he will launch an imediate investigation of Hillary Clinton's illegal fundraising, still no answers from the clintons, on where the other missing 40 million dollars is, and who owns the charity they give to. I can smell the fires burning now, Better throw iin that file to Bill, before they ask for it. Hillary laying low all week, Jim Axelrod of CBS STUNS Nancy Pelosi last night with his question of her leadership on Iraq being a failure. Elizabeth Edwards slams defeatist moveon.org for comment made in the NYT's. NYTS backpedaling on ad rates after being caught again by the new york post.. More real news in at 6:30 on NBC of course
I really don't have a lot of problems with Olsen...but still...he can only be seen as a Bush supporter...and I think at this point, Bush needs to pick a more independent AG.
Sorry folks.  The AG position should be an outside hire.  Anyone who is currently in the DoJ is automatically tainted by the last six years of partisanship.  Period.  I wouldn't even convene a confirmation committee hearing for the guy.
Wow.
Alright some one help me find a clear reason that this guy is flawed. Not just the typical bs. What does the bar say? We all know that it is not a fan of the Repubs. If they give the recomendation is that enough? Lets face it no one short of Janet Reno will make the Dems happy. Hopefully when this is all over if in fact the Dems win the Pres in 08, the Repubs will grow some b**** and treat all of the noms the same way that the Dems have this Pres!!!
Rudy [[It would be good for all Americans.]]

I don't know about that, but it would sure be good for Rudy to have a crony as US Attorney General during the 2008 election. Just imagine all the Democratic voters that could be blocked from voting and all the evidence of GOP election tampering that could be suppressed. And Olsen could order indictments against a few innocent Democratic office holders for good measure, just like Gonzo's politicized US attorneys did right before the 2006 elections. Yeah, that would be really great. For Rudy.
Ted may be a decoy; someone Bush knows the Dems will reject so he can nominate someone even wingnuttier.  I say don't confirm anyone he sends up unless he sends up a TRUE bipartisan, not one of his wingnut hacks.
"I was in New York when the planes hit. Elect me President."
lets think..... have you ever had a thought in that empty little head of yours?
Non-partisan, bi-partisan - give me a break.  Since when has the Democratic Party been associated with those words?  More lemmings headed for the cliff smiling all the way.  It's amazing to see the left throw a bunch of **** in the air to see what sticks hoping no one will question their BS.
George should nominate Patrick Fitzgerald, who got a conviction on Scooter and has done great work in Chicago and NY. A Republican who is non parisan when it comes to the office. But George won't do it because it would give him some credibiity.
Uhh,I don't suppose it would do any good to observe that along with Olson in Florida, there also was Baker. Yet Dems do not attach such ''partisanship''to Baker due to his slot on the Iraq Study Group that otherwise criticized the administrations handling of the war in Iraq, and is consistantly and constantly quoted by Democrat critics. So much for ''partisanship''except as we see it coming from leftwinged Dems and their MOVEON puppetmasters.
In regard to DGordon, I distinctly recall a number of Democrats lauding Alberto Gonzalez when he was confirmed as Attorney General.  While a subset of the Democrats will not support almost anyone President Bush nominates, there have to be some who would support a truly moderate conservative and/or someone who has already demonstrated independence and competence.  Might President Bush consider nominating a former senator?
Giuliani is exactly right.  Any Democrat president would nominate a Democrat.  We need an AG who can separate politics from his job.  If Olsen can (as Giuliani says he can), then he'll be fine.
There are any number of well-qualified former U.S. Attorneys who are eminently more suitable for the AG position.  Bush needs to look no further than the attorneys he recently fired.  They are Republicans.  But they all believe in an independent judiciary and the rule of law. Under this Administration that's the kiss of death but appointing one of the eight just might bring some credibility back to the Justice(?) department.  John McKay from Seattle would be a good place to start.
Do all republicans hate America or just bush and fred republicans? Evidence now comes to light that a major bush backer  has a major oil deal with the kurds. This would be beneficial to have chaos in the streets of Iraq to never allow oil sharing and also to keep oil prices(gas prices) artificially high. The middle class is being sucked dry and are too naive to see the conspiracy that is going on. American military in Iraq is good for huge oil profits. Wake up and speak up for your nation! Our boys and girls are dying over there.
Non-partisan, bipartisan-give me a break.  Since when has the Republican Party been associated with those words?  More lemmings headed off the cliff crapping all the way. It's amazing to see the wingnuts throw a bunch of lies in the air to see which ones stick. We now all question that BS.
We need a real AG.
Shrub is not fit to pick his nose!

Someone tell Rudy he and Olson look terrible in their red dresses!
DEMS& REBUBS LETS JUS STOPAND THINK ABOUT AMERICA,OUR GREAT COUNTRY. MOST OF OUR PROBLEMS EXIST,COME FROM OR ARE CAUSED IN WASHINGTON D.C.BY THE SELF INTREST AND CORRUPTION THAT EXISTS THERE.NOTHING IS DONE FOR THE GOOD OF THE COUNTRY;EVERYTHING IS DONE FOR THE GOOD OF THE PARTY AND PERSONAL SELF INTEREST. TERM LIMITS WOULD TAKE PROBABLY 12 YEARS TO GET A CLEAN SWEEP: 3 TERMS FOR THE CONGRESS AND TWO TERMS FOR THE SENATE. SOME OF THESE CLOWNS HAVE BEEN THERE 30-40 YEARS AND THEY CAN'T GET IT DONE YET? HELLO ? WE WOULD LOSE SOME GOOD PEOPLE BUT THEY COULD RUN AGAIN ON THEIR RECORD!
Ted Olson argued the Bush v Gore case in the supreme court and succeeded in puting Bush in office.Rudy probably thinks Ted will do the same for him.Oh Rudy youu are so transparent you are pathetic.
WHY would President Bush suggest Olson? That's (excuse the cleche')jumping out of the frying pan into the fire. Why would he even stir up such controversy in the middle of all the rest?

Giuliani is coming down so bi-partisan on this Wow. Talk about Washington insiders. Promote your own campaign advisor (who was in the middle of the 2000 campaign mess) for U.S. attorney general.

I read something about another candidate that really impressed me. A candidate who really does want to work as an American> First and cross party lines (out) in Leading our nation. Check him out for yourself.

He isn't blitzing the Ad market--showing his 'Buying Power.' He isn't stumbling over other candidates like RulerADHD. He's paying close attention to the needs of our nation.

His record as Gov, his record in public service in the private sector--and he isn't a warmonger..Huckabee is looking more and more like a strong man, a strong choice.

I started researching him at www.explorehuckabee.com and went from there. Also, message boards, etc are full of people he governed for 10 yrs +- who really respect the man and his leadership. It's good to see. I'm keeping my eye on Huckabee.
