Bill Richardson on the N.E. Patriots...

... Well, sort of. Richardson just issued this statement linking the New England Patriots spying scandal -- which cost the Pats a first-round draft pick and their coach a fine worth hundreds of thousands of dollars -- and President Bush. Does the link make sense? You be the judge...

"The President has been allowed to spy on Americans without a warrant, and our U.S. Senate is letting it continue," Richardson said. "You know something is wrong when the New England Patriots face stiffer penalties for spying on innocent Americans than Dick Cheney and George Bush."

Rule of thumb.  If a Democrat says it, it doesn't make sense.
CHEaT CHEAT OR DONT GET ANYWHERE! Everyone of you cheat at sports love war what ever .America was made for cheaters.
Dear President Bush : Please do us all a big favor and stick it where the sun don't shine and resign today. Thank you and have a nice day.
I think it was a great comment...don't usually applaud Richardson...but what he said make a whole lot of sense.
Wow !! Did the Patriots lose a 1st round pick ??
That's great !!
Break the law, pay the penalty !!
Too bad they don't do that for politicians......

Go 9ers !!
Go Golden Bears !!
Chuck & Mark -- any news on the Get Out of Iraq / Impeach Bush march tomorrow? Usually there is a least a comment from the WH that Bush and Cheney will be out of town and won't see or hear any demonstrators. I guess no reporters have asked for comments? The silence is deafening.
Makes perfect sense to me!
If a Democrat says it, it doesn't make sense....to a Republican.
Well... I suppose that makes sense in a very tangential way.  The difference, of course, is that the Pats are a football organization (as apposed to a Federal agnecy) and the Jets weren't having their personal phone calls tapped (as apposed to Americans under surveilance by the illegal wiretapping).  One is a scandal in a relatively meaningless (I love my team, but come on... if football ceased to exist tomorrow it wouldn't really be the end of the world) professional sport.  The other is a vioation of US law by our own government.

But the idea that a game has stiffer consequences for breaking the rules than our government is a good commentary on how far the Republican culture of corruption has degraded our society.
You have got to be kidding. How is this worthy of a candidate for the President of the United States. Have we stooped so low that now this is what Presidential politics are all about. Its more like class president for the third grade. Some one some where get some class. Quit calling each other names quit acting stupid. Share your ideas, make a point. You are never going to win by calling other people names, if laws were broken bring charges, if not quit being so childish and tell me what you can do. Not how bad some one else is. Or is this why you chose politics the only profession where all that counts is what you say not what you do!!!
I am in complete agreement with the coach, this adminstration has gotten away with any and everthing "nothing is done to them"
Congress specifically gave that team the authority to spy. Doesn't anybody remember the Patriot Act?
I don't care if it makes sense. It made me laugh and that's all that matters.
Daisy Gunns is another 'toe tapping' Repugnicant.
Any body remember America?

This is one Fuct up country.

Flag waving MORONS, WAR cheer leaders - and not a thinker in the lot.

Rule of thumb.  If a republican says it, it's a lie.
There is no comparison here - the Patriots use their intel to actually WIN...
something is wrong when this lunacy is news. How about something is wrong when Martha Stewart goes to jail for $50,000 and Hillary is free after $875,00o from a felon Hsu?
Lo qué Richardson dijo es la verdad de absoult.
If a republican says it it is a lie!!!!
I'm with Al. Bush's administration has never been held accountable for any of the unethical actions it has taken. Richardson's comment works for me.
Spot on.  C'mon all you sports fans....let's make sport of King George and Shotgun Dick.  Why can't we get as fired up about getting rid of these criminals as we can about football?
I think it fits well into Richardson's humor campaign. Richardson is trying to come off as a likeable guy with a sense of humor, his interview adds.
Rule of thumb. If a Republican says it, the thumb is as brown as the nose.
You can't penalize a king. A king is above the law.
The comparison is a bit awkward, but still, great quote! Nice use of a topical subject to shine a light on something that is not discussed enough.
But G W Bush is the President of Amurrica, where Criminal Activity is ignored as a Right of Office... In America (USA) it is a Crime...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
High crimes and misdemeanors is a phrase from the United States Constitution, Article II, Section 4: "The President, Vice President and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors."
"High" in the legal parlance of the 18th century means "against the State". A high crime is one which seeks the overthrow of the country, which gives aid or comfort to its enemies, or which injures the country to the profit of an individual or group. In democracies and similar societies it also includes crimes which attempt to alter the outcome of elections.
The first impeachment conviction by the U.S. Senate was in 1804 of District Judge John Pickering for the high crime and misdemeanor of chronic intoxication. Federal judges have been impeached and removed from office for tax evasion, conspiracy to solicit a bribe, and making false statements to a grand jury.
In the impeachment of Bill Clinton in the late 1990s for perjury, the exact meaning of the term high crimes and misdemeanors became the subject of debate. A particular subject of debate is exactly what rises to the level of high crimes and misdemeanors. Some felt that the act of perjury, a federal crime, rose to that level. Others felt that this particular act of perjury, while illegal, did not reach that level because the lie was specifically in regards to a matter of personal infidelity and that the questioning that led to it was allegedly politically-motivated. Those in favor of impeachment often counter that the conditions that led to the crime are irrelevant and that one of the President's duties is to set a good moral example, while supporters of President Clinton often contend that impeachments resulting from politically-motivated inquiries could lead to a slippery slope affecting the balance of power between the Executive and Legislative branches.
It is evident that in the absence of a clear legal definition, determining what rises to "high crimes and misdemeanors" is an inherently political process, which means that it is up to Congress and what it thinks constitutes an impeachable offense.
In the US of America we are governed by the Constitution and the Bill of Rights... In the Polarized States of Amurrica the bottom line is who CONTROLS the Citizens, where as Control is equated as POWER... He who Controls, decides... Controlers decide what is a Crime, not the controlled... Geeeze!
The solution is obvious.. The New England Patriots has the word Patriots as a part of their personna, something to which the present executive does not relate.
Maybe they were following the example set by the New York Slimes & McDermott and this spying is protected under their first Amendment rights.
Great remark by Richardson. The subtext is as follows: The National Football League has more concern for its image than the U.S. government has for the privacy of its taxpaying citizens.
If Republicans are involved, you can be sure that it's dishonest and unethical and somebody stands to get rich by it--whatever shenannigans are afoot. Bush and Cheney are getting away with their deeds now--but history will judge them harshly.
 If the obvious Republicans who have replied above do not see they, they are naive. If Bush is such a great president, sirs, how do you explain his abysmal approval ratings? In fact, sirs, Bush & Cheney will be looked upon by history as the worst and most corrupt administration in the US history. I find it completely ironic how the Republicans got so bent out of shape because Clinton got a blow job from an intern, while they overlook the untruths told by Bush that have ended up in the unnecessary deaths of thousands. Do you think the world and the American public do not see and judge your hypocracy?
Make perfect sense - After all, When Chimpo McFlilghtsuit puts 150,000 men on the field - He takes away the goalposts.
Send Bush packing! We don't want him!
Rule of Thumb if a democrat says something and it's known lie. There are no immoral acts when it comes to the spread of Socialism
These are the sort of things that Richardson SHOULD be saying.  It makes sense to the average voter and puts things into perspective.  A lot of people don't understand the nuances of the whole warrantless wire-tapping and other assorted "spy" tactics the Bush Administration has become so fond of, but they understand in football, taping the opposition's hand signals is a big no-no.  Whatever works to get the message across.
lets think=concern troll.
It's a metaphor. As much as I'm not a fan of Richardson, throwing up incense over that while you know the administration has broken so many laws the public's collective head is spinning, with a stacked deck of judges and a sheepish filibuster of republican apocalypse lemmings, is kind of transparent, bud.
That is funny and is (I believe) the only reasonable thing to come from Richardson's lips.
And I'll still say it, Go Pats.  They got what they deserved, have a good rest of the season playing fair.
I agree with Bill Richardson. Remember W. is King of America, or at least he and his right winged nut job followers think he is!
If a Democrat says it, it doesn't make sense....to a Republican. Unless the Democrat accompanies it with some pretty pictures and only uses words with a maximum of two syllables. It also helps if the Democrat doesn't use any words which immediately cause the Republican brain to go into 'standby'; examples include 'global warming', 'gay rights', 'progressive taxation', 'evolution', 'separation of state and religion', 'separation of powers', 'gun control'…
Since they are the Patriots, New England should have argued that they are protected under the Patriot Act and spying therefore is protecting us from terrorists.
Makes about as much sense as how Bush uses the Patriot Act to grab power and spy on Americans.
This comment makes perfect sense.  The US cares more about Sports and Entertainment than it does honoring the Constitution.  That is why we are where we are and the Congress lets Bush/Cheney get away with what they do.  We are no better than the government we demand.
Hey, football is a lot easier for Americans to understand.  Mr/Mrs America don't see and therefore understand how illegal wiretaps and spying on us might be an bad thing and is unconstitutional.  (Remember all those kids throwing spitballs and sleeping in your highschool classes?  These are the same folks!)
Republicans only understand what they have been told to understand by the people who think for them.  Richardson was making too much sense for them to handle.
Spoken like a true idiot liberal nuanced. One cheats to win a fotball game and the other cheats to reduce the number of innocent US civilians killed at the hands of terrorists already in this country thanks to the Democrats 8 years of open borders for votes program. Do the ends justify the means?
When the draft comes the Republicans will make sure none of them are picked.
I think the commment is appropriate.  A sports-related comparison may be the only thing that the 27% who still support Bush can understand.... and about the Martha Stewart/Hilary Clinton comparison, please remember the SEC "chose not to prosecute" George W Bush, before he was president, for a shady $800,000 stock sale. The SEC made it clear that he was "not exonerated". Another pass for W.
Does the daily kos have a server down?  This story is the best, ever.  Smartest coach in football history makes great team even better by what is called in baseball, stealing signs.  It happens every day and everyone knows it.  If other players and coaches had Belichick in their heads before, this should really fog 'em up.  Only a fool uses the same signs again and again.  That every team that does, now has to scramble to reencrypt their play calling, only spices up the stew.  In Bill we trust.
The End Of An Error.
Yes, lets all listen to what the governor of a border state has to say whom voted against making English the unifying Language of this country.  And get it right people, anything from the mouth of a democrat IS a LIE.  When are they going to start telling the truth; they are against defending this country, against our military men and women, against protecting our borders and when are they going to change their party name form tdemocrats to what they really are; Socialists.
