Protests at the NRA confab

From NBC's Lauren Appelbaum

At the NRA conference, while GOP Sen. John Thune was speaking, a woman rushed into the ballroom holding a sign that said "honk for peace" on one side and showed a picture of dead children on the other side. She yelled "Don't Iraq Iran" and addressed the senator directly. "Please senator, don't Iraq Iran. Stop killing the children. You are all accomplices to war crimes. I will not stand any more bloodshed." A NRA member yelled at security, repeatedly saying "How the hell did she get in here? Get her out of here."

Thune, after the woman was forcefully removed, talked about rights and said basic rights included her right to speak her mind. Then he went on with his speech.

Later, another protest occurred when McCain was speaking. Two women walked right in, making peace signs with hands and yelling for the troops to come home. After they were removed, McCain said, "Well, my friends, we beat you yesterday, we beat you the day before, and we'll best you today." He received a standing ovation. Then he implored the Democrats to reject the MoveOn ad.

Well, at least that didn't turn into another 'Don't Tase Me, Bro!' event.

Personally, I am totally against 'screening'. It demonstrates a certain wimpiness on the part of those holding the rally/speech/whatever. If you cannot be challenged then you are psychologically and intellectually feeble.
Yuck it up McCain.

A Vietnam vet like McCain should know all about winning battles but losing wars.  The Democrats will win the war despite recent Republican victories in these Senate skimishes.

McCain and the rest of the "all war, all the time" neocon, and rightwing Republicans, will be defeated by the Democrats soundly in November 2008.

Yes my friends it is true.

I am not a political expert but even I can look at the numbers and see which direction America is moving in.  Hint, it is closer to the feeling expressed by Moveon than the feeling expressed by John McCain.

Peace activists at a NRA rally.....
That's like President Bush speaking at the dailyKOS convention LOL.

Now that moveon.org has been spanked severely, they will do anything to back on message.
Dickie, you've got a valid point. You know the country is leaning more to the Left when the Right screams louder and louder which is exactly what they are doing. The fear and desperation is beginning to materialise. This stupid Senate vote on the MoveOn ad is just the beginning. Expect the freaks on the Right to jack up the wattage even more in the coming months.
Sorry, Jerry, but MoveOn has not 'been spanked severly'... LOL!

If anything, they are receiving more attention and more donations in light of this fracas. So, you see, you dummies once again have shot yourselves in the ass with your lack of foresight. And, of course, a few chickenshit libs went along for the ride too.

THIS is why Congress's approval rating is in the sewer - 11%. A war with no end in sight and a zillion domestic issues and those asses still find time for this pathetic political posturing trash.
More inane comments from McCain...and Texas.
"After they were removed, McCain said, "Well, my friends, we beat you yesterday, we beat you the day before, and we'll best you today." He received a standing ovation. Then he implored the Democrats to reject the MoveOn ad."

Why didn't Senator McCain answer her? He's running for President. Next year's election is going to be about the war. And he responds with the above quote?

You're correct Dickie. The GOP is so out of touch it's pathetic. But what do you expect? John McCain sold his friend Senator John Kerry down the river last year.

The GOP hasn't won anything.
Boley:

In case you did not notice, a lot of the democrats went along with the Senate resolution.  Probably those that haven't been getting money from George Soros, uhhhh, I mean Moveon.org.

After seeing that ad, America knows now that the extreme kool aid drinking pot smoking brand of liberalism that threatens the lives of people in this country is not going to win in 2008.
It's not enough to win the Presidency, any idiot can do that, a decent President has to be able to govern the entire country. That means respecting women who protest against war. It's not his job to "beat" his fellow Americans. McCain's comment shows he is not the leader America needs.
If you are going to challenge a candidate, you need to be a little more respectful.  I wouldn't jump up at a rally at Hillary Clinton Rally and accuse her of being anti-semitic.......

I'd probably be beaten by the crowd
Then after I was found out, the Vietnam vets would get an extra piece of me......
Then I'd have my taser moment.....
with the Secret Service there, i would be shot......

So if you are going to challenge the white house folks, please be courteous and ask your question politely and people will like you more.
"Don't Iraq Iran"....
Thank you, whoever you are !
Thank you for those sentiments !
The Washington DC insideers and their media lackeys are trying to prepare the country for a war aginst Iran.
There is NO JUSTIFICATION for war with Iran !!

Losing wars in Iraq and Afganistan IS NOT ENOUGH !!
These clowns want another one !!!

Screw you McCain !!
You brain dead BOZO !!
I once respected this guy.
Especially after he opposed torture by the Bush Administration.
But, political ambition got the better of him and now he cavorts with Falwell's minions and Bush.

THROW THE BUMS OUT !!
DON'T BRING THE BUMS BACK !!
The occupation has failed. Right now we are battling over who will get the blame.
Did anyone honk? Inquiring minds want to know.

Honk, honk, honk, honk, honk
Jerry, just like the "swift-boating" of John Kerry, which was given endless free airtime because of it's controversy, the MoveOn ad did what it intended, and is still getting free press attention for the same reason.  At least your guys immediately replied, unlike Kerry.  I'm sure they're just pissed because the liberal PACs are playing just as dirty as the conservative ones.  They should get used to it.
And here's something else, Jerry. Some people are not worthy of 'respect'. Certainly not the Bush Administration and this Blackwater business. Did you read the piece by Michael Hirsch on it?

And yet the demagogues on the Right STILL say that this war is about 'national security'. Bull! This is turning more into Bush's own little shooting gallery where anything goes. Yeah, that's it. He's overcompensating. I mean, Jesus, the man is scared of a horse! That's why Vicente Fox refers to Bush as a 'windshield cowboy'.
Jerry talking about being civil and curteous; that's like Jerry Falwell preaching about Jesus's love and then saying the Midgetman missle was Jesus's gift to the American people.  I think one of the most demeaning things one can do in protest is to throw and egg at someone.  If I were to see President Numbnuts or Deadeye Dick in person, I would not have to do this.  Their actions ave already left more egg on their faces than anyone could throw at them.

Respect, Jerry, is a two way street.  When leaders do as they choose wothout caring about the wishes of the people who elected them , that is disrespect.  The only reason you respect these two sorry excuses we have as leaders is because you agree with them.  It's a good thing you are no longer in the majority.  You are now wearing the emporer's new clothes.  I hope they are a good fit.
If you turn our right, I'll eat my hat tonight.
honk! honk! honk! Thanks, nuanced.
Well, Doug, as they say... paybacks are a real bitch! See, it's all right for the cons to play dirty but when the libs wanna get down in the mud then WHOA! Let's just stop EVERYTHING in the Senate and vote on some worthless 'resolution' condemning it.

You cons had better get comfy with the fact that the tables are turning. You jackasses are hypocrites for whining about it since you've played by those dirty rules for years.
Why can't more of us be like Code Pink and PETA?  They're such great Americans.  If only we would realize Moslems are so peaceful and would never harm us if we would get rid of King George and stay on this side of the hemisphere.
Bush is the devil. Bush is Hitler. We're so brave to stand up to him. Now we can "feel" good about ourselves because we excuse every thug in the world who might actually harm us.
"McCain said, "Well, my friends, we beat you yesterday, we beat you the day before, and we'll best you today."   No way has the right tried (and succeeded) in dividing this country. No way is it "My party, right or wrong" with these destructive comments. "We" who, McCain?
Robert:
1. The left did not elect Bush and Cheney. So they started the presidency with 48% of the country against them. So the hell with that 48% because no matter, your damned if you do, damned if you dont.
2. The reason you hate them is because your political party does. So yes those that voted for them agree with them.
3. This damn country isnt going anywhere until it unites. You cant say she--t to a liberal without them going way out in left field about Bush. In case you didnt notice there are a lot of filthy rich liberals in this country as well as dirt poor republicans so WTF. I dont see any rich liberals giving all of their money to the poor. I dont see Edwards building a public housing complex. He says there is 2 Americas. I wonder to which he belongs.
When will Republicans stop making the war and 9/11 political. I know conservatives like to say Democrats are..but when most of the country agrees, that's hardly fishing for votes..it's a common sense fact and you'd think the GOP would atleast seek resolutions and rhetoric focused on common ground solutions. I hate that it will take an election to change anyone in the GOP, but when all you understand are politics, I guess a defeat is the best way to drive the message home.
It's hilarious the way all these Macho tough guys have their panties in a twist about this MoveOn ad.  They can dish it out, but they can't take it.  Like all bullies, they're all chicken underneath.
InThe Middle,  Whaaaaaaaaaat?
Let me strike out in blind hatred and rank stupidity because I'm scared, confused, and slowly realizing I have betrayed my fellow citizens, with whom I'm no longer worthy to associate.
The NRA and its supporters seem to feel that peace is against our morals of "he who has the most guns, wins".

Everyone who participated by attending that conference are to forever be known as "war mongers" and only in it for the power. They are terribly hateful and very sad people if they believe that we can "win" that immoral war in Iraq. And, they even want to take it to Iran!! With whom? Their kids? Not mine!!!!! Send Jenna and Babs into Iraq with their weapons and cammos and maybe a flak jacket. Maybe they'll do a tour without a scrape... maybe not.

Remember, the NRA are the same folks who believe it's okay to have 30,000 deaths each year due to hand guns. If they thought that were horrible, then they'd be banning hand guns.

So much for our liberties and freedom as I feel I have to anonymously sign this post.
mccain is about as big an ignorant fool as the ignorant cowboy he wants to be!
MoveOn's ad was their business. Their money, Their right. The blow back was unfortunate and avoidable. I wish they would have done it slightly different. Picture of the General and Picture of Bush side by side. Under the Generals picture "General Petraeus" Under Bush's ignorant face "General Betrayus" They should have taken Bush to task for crossing the line and hiding behind one of his general officers. Ordering a good patriotic soldier to become a political shill. Disgraceful. That point would have resonated with the same people that the Republicans are reaching with their response. Move On needs to think these things out a little further. The people they need to reach are THE CENTER and THE MODERATES. The base doesn't need any red meat. The target needs to be Bush and those that brung him. Attacks on the military are counter productive in this battle and about as stupid as whoever allowed Cindy Sheehan to be photographed hugging and kissing that Stalinist F**K Chavez. Get a political bone in your body people or do you like being the party of perennial loss?
Hmm--two sets of protesters get into an NRA event for two different speakers? I would guess that the NRA would be very good and thorough at screening their audiences according to the recently released White House guidelines for spontaneous speechifying. McCain's reply was quick and will look great in a 30 second spot. I wonder if any reporters bothered to do their job find out who the protesters were? HA! Probably busy covering OJ.
Comment to Jerry- come on pal. Ask questions politely of "Whie House folks" and they'll respond? How about that WH manual that told how to deal with anyone in an audience that was not a "loyal Bushie"? It was forced into the open during the trial of that couple that had the nerve to show up a a Bush speech, in a public setting, wearing anti Bush tee-shirts. They were arrested when they refused to remove them. The charges were eventually dropped, and they got paid! The manual says that extraordinary steps should be taken to keep out anyone who disagrees, and have goons available to obstruct or screen the protesters from the press and, especially, the President. Nobody should un-nerve the boy in the bubble! Civil disobedience is a part of Americal, pal. A little street theater never hurt anyone. Crying crocodile tears over an ad in a newspaper does not fool us into thinking that Republicans really care about the military. You fifteen minutes is almost up!
It's no wonder that we haven't "won" in Iraq. This whole time, the Republicans have been more worried about fighting the Democrats instead of al Qaeda. And according to McCain, "[they] beat [us] yesterday, [they] beat [us] the day before, and [they'll] best [us] today." If they are more worried about the Democrats ending their precious war, why don't they bring the "surge" troops home, get rid of all Democrats, then send them back to Iraq for their, what, 27th tour?

Pardon my language, but what ignorant prick. I would rather vote for Sasquatch's genitals than McCain.
Gary Schear, bozeman Montana:
'... hugging and kissing that Stalinist F**K Chavez...'

Gary Schear, you're right, it wasn't 'good politics' to be seen with Hugo Chavez......

But, please .......
He WAS DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED !!
I don't agree with everything he's done, but....

He was democratically elected, unlike some of our 'allies' like Musharraf, Mubarak, King Abdullah....

Why demonize a leader who doesn't toe the American line ?
The Bush admin tried to overthrow Chavez,
That makes him OK in my eyes...

Where does the 'Stalinist' copme from ??
Faux Newz ??
Oh yeah. IntheMiddle,

See Warren Buffett. Your turn.

Honk Honk
Whoa, Gary, put the brakes on. You're starting to sound like Levin with the 'Stalinist' garbage. Don't drink that kool-aid.

As Sierra said, Chavez WAS democratically elected. You may not agree with his politics but give credit where credit is due. He certainly isn't a Saddam Hussein or a Joseph Stalin. I haven't heard of any mass purges going on in Venezuela.

You aren't dissing 'democracy' now, are you?

Or are you only for 'democracy' as long as it mirrors US-style democracy?
Sierra, Gary is right about this.  Chavez nationalized all the foreign oil companies, he is closing private schools unless they agree to teach his socialist propaganda and he is attempting to create a socialist country.  Just because youa re democratically elected doesnt mean you cant become a dictator.  Saddam hussein was "democratically" elected, Mubarak in Egypt is democratically elected and Amadeinajad in Iran was democratically elected.  Hamas was democratically elected in Palestine.  So what?
Be honest folks, the NRA is not at all concerned with the right to own a gun, it is concerned with the stock holders of Smith and Wesson and their right to continue to make a large profit on producing guns of every make and model.  I don't hunt, don't eat wild game, but for those who do - I say go for it, get yourself a hunting rifle and head for the hills.  I live in a safe area, if I did not I would either purchase a hand gun (gotta take the class) or move.  AK47's and Uzies are not useful hunting tools and I don't really think they are that necessary in home protection.  So, lets be honest, it is only about the money, it always is.
You want a real good organization regarding guns, hunting, and fishing?  American Sportsman Association - they even give real classes on how to handle, shoot, and clean a gun.  They put the NRA to shame.
Sure does not help any police officer I know (and I have several in my family) to know there are more guns on the street - only makes it more dangerous for them to do their job - protect and serve, which most do very well and with honor.
Sierra, SF--Anyone who allows 20 foot pictures of themselves to be placed anywhere is  building a cult of personality to be followed by the establishment of dictatorship for life. He is already threatening to close schools that don't toe his government line. That in itself makes him an enemy of freedom of thought, and by extension an enemy of the people.
The sad thing about Revolutions my friend is that they are nearly always betrayed.
Meet the new boss same as the old boss.
If the Venezuelans want a new leader at some point they will probably have to pry him out of the palace with the business end of an AK47...if they can get one. That is why I also support the Second Amendment.
If you want to trust the Police and the Army to defend your freedom that's your mistake to make.

Democratically elected? So was Bush.

The people in power, where ever they are and whoever they are, do not need to be embraced. They need to be watched, scrutinized, held at arms length, and held to account.
Political parties are not to be trusted but are to be used by the people to try and achieve justice and peace. If the people don't use the parties, the parties will certainly use the people to achieve power.

Trust no man with your Freedom, Sierra, SF.
And don't let off even one day in defending it.

And Come on! Faux News? You've seen me around, You have to know better than that.
The ''Petraeus As Political Shill'',was in fact a conspiricy theory which was cooked up by Chris Matthews [MSNBC HARDBALL],and carried into the leftwinged netroots and spread from these locations, the most formitable, the Soros-financed MOVEON leftwinged poltical PAC. They based their ''facts''upon a partisan ''journalists'' lie.
Olberman, off on another of his ranting tears on his ''Special Comments'',[and crediting Matthews for formenting his strange thesis regarding Petraeus] was able to further slander this general and screw up history all at once.[Olberman should have stuck to describing a Bears offense rather than sally forward heedless of the ignorance he displayed last night].
Olberman will be reminded that Gen.McClellan was not sacked due to his political ambitions by Lincoln[Lincoln cared not a whit about this,Olburmans idiotic assertion to the contrary, indeed,as accurately observed by Keiths earlier guest,Ken Burns, director of ''The Civil War'', Lincoln observed,''victories are what is most needed. Give me these and I will risk the dictatorship''[of McClellan],who observed in a letter to his wife: ''I seem to be the man of the hour. I can have anything I wish or desire. I could become dictator, but I do not wish to be a dictator''], but due to his patent refusal to pursue the enemy. After allowing Lee to escape again at Sharpsburg [the first time, after the Seven Days battles around Richmond],Lincoln had had enough of the dilatory ''boy general''and sacked him.''Politics''had not a damned thing to do with it.[and in a Union Army packed with political generals].
Olberman ,now working himself into a lather, then compares Petraeus to the ''perhaps mentally unbalanced MacArthur'' and the ''mad'' General Walker. Using Olbermans own standards of journalistic honesty that he readily uses on the O'Reillys of the world,I turn to ask this bovine sharpsuit,''upon what evidence do you base a claim that General Petraeus has acted in an erratic or mentally unstable condition''?
He has none. Even the generals Democrat detractors observe his ''honour''[Dodd,Schumer,Obama,et al],his ''honesty''and his ''candour in the face of a tough job''.Indeed,Dodd used Petraeus'own testimony before the Senate as a reason why we should not continue funding of the war in his support of the Feingold bill.
While Olberman can be easily dismissed as a hack blowhard,in eternal battle with his bloviating counterpart O'Reilly, Soros is another matter, vastly of more importance than either of these two minions for their ideological wings.
For Soros is the hand that virtually guides all that the leftwing reports, critiques, decides upon,or influences in regards to the national policy and politics as envisioned by the Democrat party which in turn,is in thrall to Soros'money, his PACS which run the funding machinery, and to his one-world global philosophies in general.[hence the hammered-upon themes by Edwards,Dodd,Obama and Kucinich, that we rely more upon the ''UN'' to direct American affairs and less upon America itself. This is a primary Soros goal, realized, through the efforts of his bought-and-paid -for politicians].
Who will throw the stick into Soros spokes? Not the weakened GOP,who still reels from scandal and resignation. Or the president, whose controversial presidency nears its end.
It will be the Middle Eastern jihadists who will settle once and for all Churchills dictum that we are only at ''the end of the beginning''in Iraq. Bush to his temporary credit can see this. So can McCain, and conservative author Charles Krauthammer in todays Washington Post piece on the subject. Democrats are too blinded by the dazzling wealth and influence of George Soros to see it,save a minority of freshmen politicans who have refused to march lockstep behind their parties leftwing.[McCaskill,Tester,Webb,Casey among these].
They see the implications of a Pakistan that wants Musharref out,and bin Laden in. They see that the facility in eastern Syria may have been a nuclear weapons research site after all. They see that Iran has been caught red-handed in not only directly involving itself in both Iraq and Afghanistan, but seeks to hurry their nuclear weapons program along in time to invest Iraq and retain it with nuclear blackmail in order to spread their empire. This is the avowed goal of the nations president,Ahmedinjezad who stated as much only last week[before being invited to a Columbia University that does not want the ROTC due to ''Dont Ask Dont Tell'',but invites the president of a nation whose official policy is to summarily execute gays and women].
Here is where all of the one-world hopes of the American Left,Soros and the Democrats will be dashed upon the rocks. We will most certainly return to the Middle East even without our presence in Iraq. More American soldiers, sailors and Marines will die along with an untold number of civilian deaths that will eclipse all that has gone before, because we fled from the evil [indeed, now invite it to come into our land], rather than confront it.

''The nuclear bombing of Israel is of no consequence to us. They may kill many of us,but we will kill all of them and there are still a billion Muslims left in the world''.

  Remarks: Peoples Mohajedein,Tehran, Iran. Sept.14,2007.

''With the nuclear technologies and the new missles,we will become the regions superpower''

Remarks,Maj.Gen Moshen Rezai Secretary to the State Expediency Council,Tehran,Iran. Aug.24,2007.
M. Boley--
George Bush, since his "democratic" election, has been consolidating and reaching and grabbing and maneuvering to increase the power of the his executive office.

Hugo Chavez, since his "democratic" election, has been consolidating and reaching and grabbing and maneuvering to increase the power of the his executive office.

As near as I can tell Venezuelan democracy DOES mirror US democracy.

The political spectrum is not a spectrum at all, it is a sphere. If our leaders go too far to the Right or the Left they end up in the same place, with their boots on our necks.
The best we can do for ourselves is to keep all of the bastards in front of us.
I have voted Democratic all of my life and will do so in the next election but I remain vigilant.
Then Bush and Chavez should become bed-buddies then. What is Bush's problem? Oh wait, Bush doesn't want to be imitated! He wants all the notoriety of being an asshole dictator all to himself!
Gary: You will be reminded that Chavez seeks a life-term as Venezuelas president and that this move has been fostered by the American left wing. Trot out your purile thesis in 2022,when several US presidents have comes and gone, while Chavez remains, unless overthrown in a coup, which will not occur here either, despite a few of the rants by the Kossacks.
Just read where Move On made approximately half a million in donations the day the Senate voted to disavow them, apparently a record day for this year.  Is this how you define "spanked", Jerry?  If so I hope the GOP keeps "spanking" the left all the way into the White House.
Lee Holmes--You should probably try and read the whole thread before you comment. My purile ( ?I think you meant puerile, use your spell checker) thesis is that Chavez is a Stalinist F**k who is busy consolidating his power as he prepares to be dictator for life in Venezuela while George Bush is busy consolidating the power of the Presidency for his own use and then to hand over to the next occupant.
Dangers to personal freedom come from both the far right and the far left and from dictators for life and tag team dictators.
Lee, you're right.  George Bush will be out of office in January of 2009 and whatever executive power he has will be delegated to the next executive, Democrat or Republican.

I am assuming that the Democrats of the country will hold their new president's feet to the fire with regard to his/her immediate rollback of executive power, whatever that entails.

Hugo Chavez will be the president for life of Venezuela and his efforts to raise his citizens'overall lot in life beyond that of the average Cuban will be long ended by the time he goes.  He is only in the early stages of consolidating his power which he intends to be absolute.

In the meantime a homegrown Chavez fan club excoriates our president for privatization instead of nationalization, school choice instead of a government mandated curriculum and private property instead of confiscation, which has already begun in Venezuela.

I am looking forward with trepidation at being part of the loyal opposition in a Democrat administration.  It never used to be that way and it's not George Bush's fault.  The asshole dictator of the United States will be gone, but his asshole critics like M. Boley will still be here.
No such thing as a "conspiracy," Holmes - only in the minds of "conspiracy nuts."  How many times has the right wing thoughtfully reminded us of that?
Why do you republicans hate America????????????????

you smear real American war heroes and praise draft dodgers. sure sounds like hypocrosy to me.
I'd rather have a Chavez any day over the bushwacker!
OH! I guess I do get what I wish for!
