Giuliani 'outrage' over Ahmadinejad

From NBC/NJ’s Matthew Berger
Giuliani
spoke to a receptive audience in Portland, Maine, today at the National Troopers Coalition meeting. After his speech, he told Portland NBC affiliate WCSH that it was an "outrage" for Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to speak at Columbia University. "His government is helping the people to kill American troops right now, today," Giuliani said.

He also got a few laughs when he said he would not answer an audience member's ringing cell phone. "I got in trouble for that a couple of days ago," he said. Afterward, Giuliani attended a fundraiser in Portland before heading back to New York for several others.

Everything is an "outrage" with this quivering bag of lies and equivocation, except creeping fascism and stinking politicians sucking on 9/11 for everything they can get from it. Suck on it, Rudy.
And Bush and his government are helping to kill innocent Iraqis. So what is your point, Rudy?

Perhaps Bush should be barred from going to other countries since he sems to be doing a lot of killing lately.
Of course its an outrage to Rudy, because the Iranian President is a teddy bear compared to His Rudeness, Rude-y the Bully Guiliani!
I see ol' Rudy is playing to the base again in a what can now be described as his usual flamboyant style.  The trick (and perhaps Repubs have difficulty with this) is to not get bogged down in the lies and the propaganda.  G-Obama '08 was absolutely right when he said that not talking with the enemies is not punishment to them.  Our country instead needs to work with these other 'problem countries' and negotiate an understanding.  Barring that, Faux News (I'm not sure if I can print FOX), is incredibly entertaining and can be very informational, you only have to sift through the half truths, which is something out nation's populace cannot always do.
Good. Be outraged at Ahmedinejad. He represents one of the most vile forms of government ever conceived.  Theocracy.
Let us hope that his feet are held to fire by questioners if questions are being allowed.
Now, lets back off on the attacks on Columbia for doing their job of intellectual inquiry. Considering the intensity of the saber rattling of late it is extremely important for many voices to be heard and  much thinking to be done by a citizen in a free society where free speech is not feared but revered. Our enemies should know that we have no need shield a free informed citizenry from their words.
What an OUTRAGE!! Rudy is a lying greaseball. Go away Rudy! Go pick out a new gown for your next debate.
Suggestion to Mayor Giuliani:

Enough about the cell phone call already. It was a silly stunt in the first place--let it rest.

If Ahmedinejad wants to speak at our universities why doesn't he apply for a student visa and wait to speak at a university until he is invited like any other student who has an opinion and thoughts...just because a country of flawed ideals and terrorists "elect" him doesn't mean he is qualified to speak to our nations youth. I think maybe the powers at Columbia should go to speak in Iran first..wouldn't that be fair ? Sounds like the university president likes him so much..maybe he won't mind learning more from their people before inviting them to share their ideas with our student. Bet he's never been to iran.
How typically un-American of Giuliani... Last time I checked, we still allowed people to say what they wanted (after all, he gets to play "dress up" and run his mouth). No matter who they are or where they are from. We don't have to like/agree/listen to what they have to say.
I'm not a big defender of Iran, but do we have any evidence that the Iranian government is plotting against American troops and/or killing American troops?  He's helping "the people" - which people?  I feel like I missed something somewhere.
Dear Jerry,

As you mentioned over the weekend, neither H.R. Clinton nor R. Giuliani are very trustworthy as candidates.  Yet, both of them being the frontrunners, what does that say about our country (who consistently claims that they do not care for that type of candidate).  Their viewpoints my differ, but their politics are little different from President G.W. Bush.  H.R. Clinton is only doing as well as she is because 1) she is a woman in a party in which the majority of members are women and wish to be empowered and 2) because she has Fmr. President W.J. Clinton's political contacts and political capital.  Yes, I will concede, she is talented in her own right and is warming up to a personality, but I believe her success is largely related to the previous 2 points.  She has that advantage, and I won't hold that against her.

That is why my top four candidates are Obama (of course), Biden, Romney and Huckabee--though I worry deeply about the separation of church and state with him as that is a very important issue to me.  I don't believe that America can go wrong with any of these candidates, whereas some of the rest will royally *something, something* us over.  In the field available, I feel that they are the best hopes for this country.
Since when is it "outrageous" to have "Freedom of Speech" in a democracy?  Or, Mr. Giuliani, do we live in one?
Who cares what RudytheRat thinks.
"I'm not a big defender of Iran, but do we have any evidence that the Iranian government is plotting against American troops and/or killing American troops?"

Well, whatever the Bush Administration trots out as 'evidence' I won't believe it. Can't fool me twice.
Gary:Then you should have no problem explaining what the leftwing did to former Clinton Education Sec and Harvard President Larry Summers last week at UC Irvine.

Adam: See above.
Freedom of speech is the right of every American citizen.  When did this Iranian madman become a citizen?
Your right Rudy....this piece of garbage Ahmedinejad who is supporting the war against peace which in turn is killing our troops and others around the world, shouldn't have been aloud to set foot in this country. How foolish of the people who think Ahmedinejad should be aloud here to speak to Columbia students, this "garbage can" of terror had the nerve to say he wanted to show support to the families of 9/11 for their loss, while he laughs at us from within. How dare he. How about demanding he publicly speaks out against the terrorists and so called religious groups that cause bloodshed and terror. He smiles in our faces while taking us as fools, idiots and hating all Americans. It was a big mistake allowing him here to enjoy American freedoms he doesn't deserve it. If someone in his country has a free thought they are jailed and even killed for it. America is not perfect and throughout history we have supported certain groups and political agendas for better or worse. Unfortunately this visit falls in the worse category.
God Bless America and all who have fallen for our freedom
What is an outrage is when Rudy accuses the Iranian President of trying to make political hay out of the ruins of 9-11 an occurance he has been shameless in doing himself.
Why does this smarmy little man think that anything he says and does is important to anyone who believes in a country where people are free to express their views and their opposition to other's views? Where they are free to have anyone they choose to listen to be given the right to talk? "Freedom of Speech" is one of the cornerstones of our nation, and if people like this small time Hitler feel it is their right to deny it they are free to do, but they should bear in mind that what the right to speak what they say is granted to them by the same great Constitution that allows President Ahmadinejad to address people at Columbia. And absolutely no, the protection and the rights granted by our Constitution do not apply only to Americans despite what some small munded fools would believe; they are available for all the world.

I am so sick of this bunch of Republican empty suits running around naysaying everything, demanding people live their lives in fear, condemning that which does not meet their narrow minded views and wrapping themselves in the flag while at the same time rejecting everything and all that our Constitution stands for. The Republican Party used to be a great party intent on making America greater and greater in the world. If you listen to the current crop of small minds that front the party you wonder where the greatness went, and when the wish for a greater America has was lost in preaching of hatred, fear, division and jingoism. Americ needs the Republican Party; we just don't need this one. Better leaders need to be allowed to come forward rather than being kept in the background by a delusional President and a small group of his followers, whose hold on the party is bolstered by the Republican inability to speak ill of their leaders. They're out there. Perhaps someday they will restore the glory of the Party.
Aha! You are right bb, Rudy IS a lying greaseball! Ive been saying that for years. So let this Iranian leader speak. So what. We know hes a nutcase just like our boy president.
TO NICHOLAS, MINNEAPS, MN.....YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY A CHAUVINIST!!!!! WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE WHETHER THE PRESIDENT IS A MAN OR WOMAN...AS LONG AS THEY HAVE THE SMARTS (AS YOU STATED H.R.CLINTON DOES) AND THE GUTS TO MAKE THE RIGHT DECISIONS FOR OUR COUNTRY..IN DEFFERENCE TO OUR PRESENT PRESIDENT WHO IS A MALE..... AND SHE HAS BILL TO BACK HER....SO WHAT'S UP WITH YOU!!!!!!
It is no surprise that the Bush Administration and it's wannabes (AKA Rudy's Raiders) are against free speech. You cannot control the masses until you completely decide who and what they will get an opprtunity to listen to. Next thing we see will be a Book Burning (unless it's Rudy's newest book).

Wake up America, your fundamental rights are being taken away by this group of flag waving "Know it alls". What have they accomplished in 6 years ? Loss of Liberties ?  That seems to be the Bush agenda and sadly on that score they have been successful.

What ever happened to "Keep your friends close and your enemy's closer" ? We need to have serious dialogue with Iran in order to dissuade them from using their power to de-stabilize the region.
DailyKos had a poll for its readers (those people know how to read?).  The poll was 'do you want to live under Bush or Ahmedinejad's leadership'.  45% said Ahmedinejad was fine for them.

The stunner here is that DailyKosers could only muster 45% approval for Ahmedinejad.  You'd think it would be around 85-90%.
Adam what is wrong with your head? Freedom of speech is an American right and not one that is endorsed in Iran. Have you even been where my boots have been to know what these people are capable of. Huddle behind your keyboard and hope that you are not the next terrorist victim while my brothers and sisters slug it out in enemy territory.
Count your days Dems as you will surely cut our military budget and bring danger once again to our country.
"Freedom of speech is the right of every American citizen.  When did this Iranian madman become a citizen?" - Allan Hallock

Allan - What the heck are you talking about?  Are you saying that foreign visitors and/or immigrants aren't protected by the first amendment, and can get thrown in jail if a cop doesn't like what they say?  That's a pretty ridiculous argument.
dinejad would like to tell his side of the story.  What in Rudy afraid of ?  No Iranians were on the planes that crashed on 9/11.  I sure as hell trust Ahmad more than I trust the International Terrorist, Bush.  Talk may be cheap, but war is NOT.

Bush is a bully and a troublemaker, prepared to war against Iran for no reason but OIL !!  There's plenty of money for Social Security if we can exit Bush's
brain rotted, megalomaniacal wars on non-christians.
Allan why are you so scared. Is he going to kill you. Oh yeah W says they are killing americans. I do not trust the liar in chief. He will say anything to get people's mind off Iraq. Hell W already started the Iraq war for political purposes, why the hell would he not start a second one for political reasons. You know Allan you do not have to listen. Just like a TV you can change the channel but guess what, this guy is not going anywhere. So we either start talking and try to resolve our issues or the scared little chickenhawks like Allan would prefer a military solution. Instead of diplomacy and talking, Allan is to scared to listen and wants more war. Typical repug's, all talk no walk. I have never seen so many cowards in my life as these chicken hawk republicans. They all talk tough about war and death, but these yellow bellied pigs would never lift a finger to fight for this country. Why should they, just look at the republican leadership: AWOL Bush, 5 deferment coward Cheney, Pimple on my ass Linpbaugh. These republicans are just emulating their heroes. They have no problem with other people fighting for them. Just do not expect any of these cowards to stand up for america. They are to busy blaming liberals for all that is wrong in the world.
there is no need to be afraid of giving the iranian president his moment of truth, we live in a so called free society, but everything thats happening indicates that we have hugh double standards, if he speaks we have the choice to agree or disagree with his points of view, and if the truth hurts  so be it , atleast the american public will not have to be so heavily influnced by distortion of the truth as we constantly get from the Bush admin
"What ever happened to 'Keep your friends close and your enemy's closer' ? "   You'd have had to have read a book in the course of getting your yale and harvard degrees to be familiar with that quote, and that's one thing I've never heard anybody accuse Bush of.
Well, I think it's interesting the Iranian President is supported by more Iranians than Bush is by Americans.
I see a few chickehawks showed up to tell us all how bad the leader of iran is..like duh...too bad the chickenhawks won't fight iran except on their keyboards of course...
No one should be surprised by Rudy's opposition to free speech and academic freedom. As mayor of NYC, he worked really hard against free speech rights and academic freedom in his typical bullying way. And if you said something he didn't like, you mysteriously disappeared in the middle of the night, never to be heard from again.
I am really sickened to what this country has become since the trickle down immorality campaign of the early and mid 90's. This country needs a leader to say "NO" you are not welcome here to speak your tongue, when you are a bedfellow of terrorists, who breeds and harbors the same vermen that killed our people on 9/11. Where are the Balls of our leaders these days? Rudy, I applore you and your feelings, because you are one of us, and yes you have balls,a real American Leader!
Allan, have you actually ever READ the first amendment? Hate to break it to you buddy, but there's nothing in there about citizens vs. non-citizens.

It's morons like you that give us Americans a bad name. Read more and talk less.
I protest the bias I saw this morning on MSNBC.  The hostess interviewed a man and a woman who spoke for the Jewish lobby and she agreed with them. The woman actually suggested "protecting" Pres. Ahmadinejad with "all Jewish policemen." I was surprised not to see a more fair and balanced presentation on MSNBC.  Take some responsibility for a peaceful conclusion to the Mid East crisis, please.
This really blows my mind. The defenders of this Iranian leader are my fellow citizens. What is up with that. Remember he was there when Carter was President, he admitted he was envolved. This guy wants Isreal wiped off the map. Can we be so blinded by hate that some of you hold this guy up as a hero? I do not support every thing the current admin has done nor did I the previous. However to make statements comparing the President of the US to this wacko is crazy! Get a grip on reality, if the same posts were made in Iran reffering to their Pres you would probably wind up in prison. They have shut down all oposition press outlets, and will throw your wife in prison for showing her wrists. Every one wants to throw out the freedom of speech argument. What about freedon of speech in Iran? How much does this Iranian Pres allow in his own country? WE all want to complain about President Bush, about illegal wire taping,. how he thinks he is above the law. If you really want to see abuse look at this guy whos rights you are defending. We are however all Americans (or most of us) this man has reffered to us as his enemy. There is proof that the cud is delivering weapons to be used against our soldiers (our sons and daughters) in Iraq. Is there no love for our own country? ok I have heard the argument that if you dont hate this President you are unAmerican...BS When you publicly embrace our enemy you show nothing but contempt for your country. He has no rights here! Put him in a cage like he did our people in 1981. Grow up! You dont have to love or support the leader but you must the office and the country!!
Traitor and Israeli agent Giuliani cannot be taken seriously here. He is from the gang of Bush that has isolated our country from our deepest values and destroyed our democratic system from within only to protect Israel. You know what I find outrageous...? That these treacherous politicians still get a platform!
"That's a pretty ridiculous argument. "  Anything else ever come from the right wing?
You're all a bunch of worthless loosers... and should be ashamed of yourselves.  I don't care if you like or dislike Rudy, George, Nancy, or Harry... you're pathetic!  GET OVER YOUR YOURSELF FOR ONCE AND STICK UP FOR YOUR COUNTRY!  YOU SELFISH CHILDREN!
Response to B.A. Kelley--

I'm not quite sure where you come to the charge about me being a chauvinist.  I never stated whether her (Sen. Clinton's) sex would make her a better or worst leader of the United States; to the contrary, I posited that her style of politics would further divide our great nation in my opinion.  I would love for a woman, black, Hispanic President just as much as a white man--which is a valid choice too, and that does not make me racist or sexist.  I merely stated that her popularity can be largely attributed to the fact that she is a woman and her connections through Fmr. Pres. Clinton.  I also stated that I don't fault her for that, but it is what I see as the truth.

It seems to me to be well documented in polls that Sen. H.R. Clinton gains a lot of her support from women.  I think it fair to say that her popularity among women is not solely due to her skill as a politian, but is in part because she is a woman.  Unless all of those women know something that the *lesser sex* is unaware of.  Now that would be a sexist claim!  I will give a for example, a close woman to me states that she will vote for the best candidate, but all being equal, she will chose the woman.  My point was that I do not personally feel that Sen. Clinton fits the all-things-equal statement.  But that would not make me a chauvinist.  Oh yeah, except Barack Obama seems to have captured the higher educated block of voters.

Here's on for you, I actually think that Congresswoman N. Pelosi is an incredibly intelligent and skilled Speaker of the House, and I would not wish anybody different.  She is an example of a leader who put aside politics (she is being challenged from the left in her district) to represent the country in a fair manner.

I would, in fact, charge that you might be more sexist.  You appear to be either so in love with Sen. Clinton that she can do no wrong or eager to make such a hurtful charge.  Get your facts straight before you make such an unfair and hateful charge against another person.  I am all for freedom of speech, but it is this kind of speech (in my opinion) that divides our nation so greatly and is one part of the hindrance to progress with different minority groups, whatever they may be.
Attack a small country under false pretenses, suspend habius corpus, illegially spy on the citizens, sell your business base to foriegn companies and now try and stop "free speech." what is happening to our country. Free speech is a concept that was guarnteed to the people of the U.S. by the constitution. This wonderful concept allows people to listen to what ever they want to and to decide what they themselves will in turn believe. When you get people trying to tell what you can listen to and what you must say or do, people are no longer free. The american citizen is smarter than they think. We are able to spot a phony and a lier. We have had a lot of experience lately.
Yay! Something for the outrage trolls to get their panties in a bunch for. By overexposing this supposed wingnut, aren't you promoting his supposed "cause" even more? Has there been much reported on what he actually was there for? Trust me, I ain't defending the guy, but this fake "horror" crap is pure Repub chum. Not for nothing, but didn't Iran help the US corner certain taliban in afghanistan? I may be wrong (and heck, I'd admit it) but I remember something about that back in the day that catching the real 9/11 perpetrators matters. By no means is that country scot-free from terrorism (the support to hamas/hezbollah is sorrowful) but it takes a man to confront them on it, but puff out your chest (that means you, mr colorado). Treat this for the red-meat stunt that it is (If I was more paranoid I'd almost say he was in on the deal).

Were the bleeding hearts at Columbia University thinking that the dictator of Iran is really just a nice guy and America should try to get to know him?  God help us if we have to rely on them to defend our country and it will need defending...sooner than you want to face the fact.  We are a weak nation of weak people due to our wealth.  Take a good look at the Middle East.  It is all about the haves and the have nots and the leaders of those countries are the haves who only talk the talk of caring about the have nots.
These people have nothing to lose and these dictators only fuel the fire of discontent under the facade of religion.
Rudy is absolutely correct.  I can't believe those of you on this string supporting AHMEDINEJAD to set foot in our country and to have the honor to speak at Columbia University?  If it's a UN mandate then keep him at the UN headquarters but the world can laugh now at how we let terrorists into our country and then protect them while they're here...It the Visa dept didn't stop it...Bush should have stopped this from happening...or at least made an announcement that due to UN rules he will be here and will be escourted out immediatly...this is an outrage...a joke that our soldiers are currently being killed while we welcome the attacker on our soil.  Anyone supporting his visit here is UNAMERICAN...How our system and politicians let this happen is disgusting...
Ahmedinejad can say what ever he likes.  The point is that he is a head of state.  Because of that, there are some things that they can get away with and places to be invited to.  Granted this one supports terrorism and shipping weapons into Iraq (even if they aren't officially doing, then they are looking the other way which is pretty much giving their approval) among other things.  Ahmedinejad also denies the Holocaust where 11 million people (mostly Jews) were murdered because of who they are.  How many other heads of states threaten to wipe another soverign country off the map.  I know that our leaders only threaten to kill other leaders and groups.

I wonder if someone had as much of a problem with the Iranian government as many American do, could they complain without fear?  I know that most people would ask me to shut up only because I would be loud.  Do the local Iranian population have to worry about being arrested for say they think their president is a piece of doggie doo?  I know I won't.
how do we know that this so called "diplomat" is not here on a scouting trip for more terroristic threats to our country? I say let the future generation of leaders at Columbia have a go at him, see if he blinks or lies straight to their faces. Perhaps we should have a few of the survivors from 9/11 escort him around the city in a back alley......
I sincerely doubt that I'll hear anything more stupid, insincere or blatantly B.S. from Ahmedinejad than I've heard from Bush, Rove, Cheney and Rumsfeld.
However, when you consider that Bush managed to get into the Oval Office twice, maybe we shouldn't let the American electorate see anything but the cartoon network.
As much as I am outraged that he comes to our country. I have to say bravo for the bravery and fortitude it takes. Last time I checked, our leaders go to countries where we are not liked and allowed to speak. So we should offer them the same courtesy. In this day and age, who really knows what the truth is and who is speaking it. We hear his version of the truth. We've heard george bush's version for almost eight years. If we can have peace and diplomacy with Iran, why not? Are we determined to keep straining relations or willing to make amends and repairs. Peace can only be sought when both sides can admit their wrongs.
I think thats it wonderful that we can fully express out selves. In Iran some of these view point would have gotten you guys in thouble and I'm glad we all only have one vote.
He spoke, he's an idiot and a terrorist.  His right to free speech while in America was left intact and as he stated, "there are no homosexuals in Iran".  Of course not, the death penalty in Iran sees to that!  You are all a bunch of idiots!  LOL
