People love to throw that freedom of speech line out there.  Freedom of speech is for Americans. Our forefathers did not mean freedom of speech is for traitors.  Over half the people on this thread would be taken into custody and hung if it were back in the time of THomas Jefferson. Freedom of speech does, in fact, allow Americans to speak about this issue, even if they choose to defend his right to be here.  The framers believed that political speech should be protected at all costs.  It receives an elevated place among the various types of speech that are protected by the First Amendment.  

However, even if it didn't, saying that Ahmadinejad should be allowed to give a speech in a private (read, private - not public) American university is not treasonous.  Saying that Ahmadinejad should be allowed to attend a UN conference in NY is not treasonous.  First of all, we are not at war with Iran.  There is no espionage involved here.  There is no giving aid to the enemy.  I'd like to know what your definition of treason is.  

I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it!

I am surprised by Norah McDonnell after listening to her response and questions after President Ahmadinejad's appearance at Columbia University.  Americans should welcome an opportunity to listen to views of leaders of other cultures even if we disagree, after all this administration is already involved in sabre rattling. Additionally, we should hold suspect any politician who would try to restrict our opportunities for dialogue. Americans need to decide for themselves.
