Oh-eight (R): More on that phone call

GIULIANI: The $9.11 fundraiser idea by some supporters participating in a Giuliani House Party seemed to cause the campaign a minor headache yesterday. We're guessing this won't be the last time the campaign has to distance itself from an over-eager supporter trying to invoke 9/11. Giuliani has a fine line to walk on this. As for this story, was the Giuliani campaign's "unfortunate" statement strong enough?

Giuliani hasn't been to Iraq but Iraq's coming to him. Giuliani added a meeting with Iraqi President Jalal Talabani to his Wednesday schedule. The noon meeting at the Waldorf-Astoria allows Giuliani to continue showcasing his foreign policy understanding and provide an aura of presidentiality, one week after meeting with British officials in London.

Giuliani will head west Thursday for the rest of the week. The trip will focus on fundraising, but the mayor will also pick up an important endorsement in California. Former Gov. Pete Wilson is expected to announce his support Thursday in Santa Monica, according to the AP.

The cell phone call that Giuliani took during the NRA speech continues to get "what was that!?!!?" type of coverage. Even the Wall Street Journal editorializes on the call: "Giuliani has run an impressive campaign so far, especially on the issues. He has a record of accomplishment in New York, and he projects the kind of executive competence that many Americans want in a President. The rap on his candidacy, however, is that his personal history and behavior are simply too strange for someone who wants to sit in the Oval Office. Voters will decide whether that's true, but if nothing else Mr. Giuliani ought to be aware of this vulnerability and do nothing to compound it.”

“‘That was just weird,’ one NRA audience member told the New York Post about the phone interruption. Mr. Giuliani doesn't need more weird."

MCCAIN: The New Hampshire Union Leader reports that a University of New Hampshire poll will also show "that John McCain has gained on front-runners Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani. The GOP poll is expected to show that Romney's support has slightly eroded since the last UNH poll in July, while Giuliani and McCain have gained support. McCain is expected to be within, or close to, the poll's margin of error behind the two."

PAUL: Giuliani isn't the only one with supporters causing him a headache. Apparently, Ron Paul's supporters went over the line in Michigan over the weekend. "According to one eyewitness, Giuliani was beset by dozens of Paul enthusiasts, some of whom shouted taunts about 9/11, including: ‘9/11 was an inside job’ and ‘Rudy, Rudy, what did you do with the gold?’  an apparent reference to rumors about $200 million in gold alleged to have disappeared in the collapse of the World Trade Center towers.

“Ed Wyszynski, a longtime GOP activist from Eagle, said the Paul supporters threatened to throw Giuliani overboard and harassed him as he took shelter in the ferry's pilothouse for the 15-minute journey. ‘It was awful,’ said Wyszynski. ‘Never, ever have I seen such a disgraceful performance.’”

ROMNEY: He had to cut short weekend campaigning in South Carolina after picking up a cold during his latest fund-raising dash.

THOMPSON: GOP analyst Jennifer Rubin speculates on the hard time she's having getting her hands on Thompson's schedule. "You may recall a couple weeks back there was some question as to the extent of Thompson's schedule. Thompson caught some flak once the schedule was finally released showing a light calendar. Well, Thompson's team took steps to stop that from happening again. Now, they don't release a calendar for the week and aren't responding to repeated inquiries as to his schedule. It appears other than a radio show here or there all he is doing this week is some medium level fundraising in Tennessee. Pick your favorite explanation -- insufficient advance team to set events, wasn't drawing overwhelming numbers at events, doesn't like press scrutiny or that whole work ethic thing. The other camps, of course, are taking notice and one chimed in: ‘Probably a smart move. This way nobody can ask Thompson about Dobson, Libya, Schiavo, the Everglades, or fundraising.’”

Rudy, using Sept 11, 2001 to his benefit.  Go figure that he would invoke such.  Just like many who keep spewing the mantra of fight them there instead of here.  Go visit a border crossing and you will see.  If they wanted to they could right now.  So why is there a need for us to continue in Iraq?  Blackwater comes to mind and the biggest yet WAR PROFITEERING!!!!!!
Why wouldn't Giuliani supporters misuse 9/11 on behalf of his campaign?  Misuse of 9/11 IS his campaign.  After all, he claimed to have spent more time at Ground Zero than many of the workers there, when a closer look shows that he spent more time at baseball games than at Ground Zero.
Regarding the Paul supporters on the ferry ride, why is it there is only one version of the story I have seen online which includes Rudy getting threatened, and its told by this Ed Wyszynski guy (and who does he support by the way? great 'news work' here First Read), and THIS one version is the version reported on here?  Every other article I have seen on the incident describes the Paul supporters as being quite loud, but never threatening, and Rudy went and hid somewhere in the boat.  Where are all his supporters to defend him by the way??
Yes, Ron Paul supporters are giving the campaign a headache, a $320,000 headache of online donations since yesterday alone, and they've already announced they'll raise more money this quarter than the 2.5 million from last quarter.
We beat Guliani at this straw poll, and Dr Paul wasn't even there! We've beat Rudy at 22 other straw polls.  Where is all this support Guiliani supposedly has from telephone polls?  These mystery supporters sure aren't showing up anywhere for their candidate.

Ed Wyszynski is a Romney supporter, if this happened, why was no one arrested for threatening Rudy? Why is there only one source for this supposed 'disgrace'?
Every video of the event I've seen show nothing about 911 taunts, just a bunch of enthusiastic people chanting 'Ron Paul'. Where were all the people chanting Rudy's name?

What do you know, freedom really is popular.
Giuliani's campaign hypes a September 11,2001 connection from day one, and all of a sudden they are disturbed when busted over the actions of a zealous volunteer? What the hell, Rudi, it's out in the open now. Maybe you can raffle off 9/11 memorabilia for fundraising purposes - partially melted non-functioning radios recovered from the WTC site, framed facsimiles of your statement suggesting that the 2001 mayoral election be delayed, Ann Coulter hugging a 9/11 family member, ...the possibilities are endless. God forbid the likes of you becomes President of this country.
I love how the MSM is yet again attempting to take the fact the Ron had so many active supporters compared to the other guys, and some how use it as a smear.  Good luck with that, but we have all seen the YouTube video of the boat ride.  I only feel sorry for those you still use TV to get the news.
Yeah, Julie's campaign IS 9/11.  All these meetings with foreign leaders (the Waldorf-Astoria?!?  Are the taxpayers paying for our Iraqi puppet to stay here first-class?  Or is he just using some of that forlifts-o'-bux he might have had a hand in making disappear?)distract us (intentionally)from the fact that all he's ever done (besides his many marriages, affairs and divorces) is be a MAYOR, for God's sake!  The closest he's ever come to being a world leader is living in the same city as the U.N.  Let's NOT be fooled!
"Never, ever have I seen such a disgraceful performance."  One comes to mind.  How about Guiliani chuckling into the microphone at the New Hampshire debate when Ron Paul when was responding to a question.
"Never, ever have I seen such a disgraceful performance."  One comes to mind.  How about Guiliani chuckling into the microphone at the New Hampshire debate when Ron Paul when was responding to a question.
This is all a lie and mis-reported, you people are afraid of the truth and you should be prosecuted. vote ron paul 2008. Its the REAL AMERICAN thing to do
So it's "over the line" to boo Rudy Giuliani and chant the name of your candidate when Rudy skulks and hides in a boat cabin?

Given the way Rudy Giuliani treats Ron Paul and his supporters, he doesn't deserve courtesy or respect in return.

I suppose I should have expected that Rudy's press stooges would spin his cowardice, and his lack of competing supporters on the ferry, into something nefarious.  Rudy got on a boat with 100+ Republican voters, and hid from them because they cheered another candidate's name.  When he's not surrounded by his own people and cops, "Captain 9/11" puts on one of his skirts and whimpers like a little girl.

And focusing the story on the ONE guy yelling statements about 9/11 reveals your atrocious bias.  Five minutes of searching on YouTube would find you both local news video and amateur news video of the incident, which shows a bunch of people chanting "Ron Paul, Ron Paul" and ONE guy yelling about truth and the light of day.  Doing that would have interfered with your "protect Rudy" narrative, though, so I guess we can't expect you to do it.
I'm sure that's EXACTLY what happened to him.  His campaign is based on overexaggeration and fear mongering -- this is just the next phase.  Hey, let's show other people how scarey some of Paul's supporters are!  I'm sure we can find a group that supports Rudy, or any other presidential campaign, with far more dangerous beliefs then the truthers.
There are YouTube videos of the Giuliani/Paul Supporters ferry ride and yet Montanaro chooses to report hearsay from a Romney supporter.

Nice journalism, pal....
‘It was awful,’ said Wyszynski. ‘Never, ever have I seen such a disgraceful performance.’”

I guess you didn't see Rudy giggling like a school boy and openingly mocking Ron Paul during a nationally televised debate.  This boat thing is mere gamesmanship in comparison.  Please, someone direct me to Mr. Wyszynski's scathing condemnation of Rudy's most discusting behavior.  What, no comment?  Didn't think so.
Gigolo Rudy G...."distance" himself from 911?
Aint gonna' happen.
"911," "911," and "MORE 911" is all you're ever going to hear from that greasy, lisping, power-hungry little twerp.
Fred the entertainer; clown category. Must have lost his script and does not know what to do this week.

Hey Fred, call Newt for instructions.
I read Ron Paul's voting record every week in my newspaper here.....

I haven't seen a yes vote from him for awhile.....
But seriously folks.....do we really want a President who's entire candidacy is predicated upon the fact that the city he was mayor of, was attacked?
Wouldn't that be like allowing Al Qaeda to pick our leaders for us?
I think people are as stupid as Rudi, Mit, and John make them out to be. I will never again support a republican for any office until they get their act together. Their heads are far up their on butts it's not funny.
I am ashamed of our corporate corrupt media. Ron Paul is the last honest American Politican left for the people. The media has done nothing but to try to black him out and make him look like the bad guy because he is exposing them all for the frauds they are. If you believe in this country and want to take a stand go to: http://ronpaul.meetup.com/cities/

Also He wants to stop the War Immediately and Abolish the IRS! What American could ask for more? Get the facts before you pass judgement: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=ron+paul
And Romney has a cold? My ass. Let's see what bombshell hits his campaign next week.
Good Grief, I was there on the Ferry, there were maybe 5 out of 200 people that said anything about 9/11. No one at any time threatened to throw Rudy overboard. The majority of the rhetoric was just chants of Ron Paul with a few good natured questions on whether or not Rudy had completed his homework yet.

Most of the people were laughing and chuckling about how Rudy scurried up the line head down and refusing to make eye contact with anyone. Real brave Rudy. They put him on the boat first and he immediately hid himself in the Pilot House and his staff and security detail stood guard outside the door.

A real Man and real Politician would have used the opportunity to walk around and glad hand everyone and try to turn some support to himself. But I guess meeting real people outside of a controlled photo op was just to much for Rudy to handle.

Rudy showed all of us his true colors on Friday night, if he can not deal with a small group of people how in the world does he think he can handle our Nation.
"that John McCain has gained on front-runners Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani . . ."

That's got to piss of the F. Thompson folks with him not being considered a front runner, and compared to McCain.  Ha!
Remember this quote? "Thank God George Bush was President when we were attacked".

'Nuff Said
The Rudy vs. Ron Paul supporters incident that is discussed, can be seen on YouTube. People had cameras there. What is described in the article is way off.
First........ How is Rudy going to stand up to the terrorists if he can't even stand up to Ron Paul supporters?

Coward, coward, coward. Maybe we should appear at the nexy Rudy event wearing a big chicken suit with a life preserver... :OD

Throwing him overboard? Yeah right. The group that is determined not to initiate violence is threatening someone. Lies, lies, lies.

I saw the film, Rudy was being told quite clearly that the people he was with do not approve of his policies in the greatest of American tradition.

<bbbawk>Suck it up<Bawwkk>Rudy, suck it <bawwk> up.

I find the Ron Paul chaning annoying and I'm a rabid Ron Paul supporter.  Can't we have song or something?

Now having said that, I think turning the Ron Paul excitement on the ferry into some kind of threat or some breach of etiquette crosses the line.  It is the classic joke of someone's arrogance putting him in an interesting position.
Rudy is already acting like his hero George Bush.Nobody is to see me,look at me or protest against me.How many miles of fences will Rudy have erected around those that do not agree with him,if God forbid,he was elected.Maybe he thought his ex-wives and kids were on the boat and thats why he ran away and hid.
Rudy's phone call from his wife was the biggest staged set up I ever saw. Yea we are that stupid Rudy.
Next why don't you fake a fire fighter calling and wishing you good luck, in the middle of a speech.
I guess the only way Rudy Julie Anna wants to see people is from the pilot house.
Threatening Gulliani.....Every been to an Indians game. Jim Thome will tell you what threatening is.
Watch the you tube video. Its kind of hard to believe anything but "RON PAUL" was being shouted while Judy sits inside the Ferry surrounded by bodygaurds. Keep giving RP bad press, its like pouring gas on a fire.

I would encourage the reporter to actually watch the you tube videos instead of msnbc news to get the real story, this mocking and attacking Ron Paul is gonna make msnbc look bad, since im a viewer.A 1st grader can see this kinda of bias and im 39 MSM will look even more foolish as RON PAULS MESSAGE is spreading like wildfire.MSNBC and the MSM will be back tracking and changing their tunes quickly just watch with amusement;) or click the tv off;) and continue telling your friends and family about AMERICAS ONLY HOPE ,RON PAUL 2008,make a stranger your friend.  Ron Paul2008
"Ed Wyszynski, a longtime party activist from Eagle, said"

That should read Ed Wyszynski, A Romney Activist said,
You all are missing the BIG story
A Boatload of Paul supporters. A boatload.
And that was not all of them, some stayed on the island. I took a later boat,so I missed that, but it was the talk of the town the next day.
Why has none of the video show these "threats".
Can you say HIT piece?
Pete Caloger Bushkill, PA 18324

Thank you - very funny!
To all the Ron Paul supporters:

The same alleged media embellishment (I haven't seen the video, heard the stories, or know anything about this incident) occurred 8 years ago when McCain "lashed out at reporters" or Howard Dean's scream.

I find it interesting that the focus is on the Ron Paul supporters, as they are more interesting than his actual campaign.  I know a few libertarians, and they are very passionate, intelligent people.

The joke here really is on Rudy G.  "said the Paul supporters threatened to throw Giuliani overboard and harassed him as he took shelter in the ferry's pilothouse for the 15-minute journey."  If he were truly a man (with the ability to swim), he would have stood his ground.  The worst that happens: the Paul supporters through him over, and he is free to hit his opponent from a defensive position (good), make the statement at what our nation is coming to (good), and talk about how he cleaned up New York criminal behavior (also good).  Instead the great 9-11 hero coward, how rich.

As to the $9.11 fundraiser.  His mistake was distancing himself.  By doing so, he acknowledged that the shameless profiting from 9-11 was wrong.  A better tactic would have been to distance himself from the fundraising group, by stating that it wasn't a Giuliani-initiated fundraiser and that he personally wouldn't do such a tasteless ploy (obviously, I would word it with a better spin if I were him).  Yet, 9-11 is still very fresh and important in the minds of Americans, as seen here, and that repubs can provide better national security than the demos.

If he hasn't already, he should re-shuffle his campaign staff, because they clearly fail.
No, seriously... are you really using this story that ws *made up* by a Romney supporter? If I wanted journalistic hacking, I'd watch FOX News instead.
I find it funny Rudy's SS guards looked very relaxed on the video. Of course our fearless terror fighter hid with the captain. A statesman would have used the captians mic and made a joke or something. Not Rudy. Always looking to spin something. If you could find a boatload of Rudy supporters, highly unlikely, and Ron was on the boat, I am sure he would have just mingled in and talked with them.
Bark-o-lounger Fred - the laziest man in politics! I laugh my ass off at how the repubs held him up with such high expectations. I'll bet they'd like to send the old fart to the old actors home now.
that garmagel
I question this Ed Wyszynski fellow. I have seen the videos on Youtube of the "Rudy on ferry" incident, and read the first hand accounts that were out before this Ed Wyszynski based BS. The original accounts have it that Rudy and his mafiosi posse muscled their way to front of the line waiting to board the ferry.  The majority of what went on from there was the "Ron Paul!" chanting sort of thing. I have read where some say that they threatened to throw Rudy overboard.  While I love the visual, the  first hand accounts, and the videos show no proof of these claims.

Looks to me like a certain supporter-less candidate is trying like hell to get some press from what was an embarrassing ferry ride.  Maybe next time Rudy and posse will pay more attention to who they're cutting in front of.  Can anyone say "blow-back"?
Uh-oh.

Rudy - has not been to Iraq, and is running a single-issue campaign.  These are bad enough, but with the quotes below, he is beginning to be in trouble...

"The rap on his candidacy, however, is that his personal history and behavior are simply too strange for someone who wants to sit in the Oval Office."

“‘That was just weird,’ one NRA audience member told the New York Post about the phone interruption. "Mr. Giuliani doesn't need more weird."
Also, not taking responsibility for the $9.11 decision.  Sounds like Bush.
Paul, The Steelers are coming to AZ sunday
to whip up on your Cardinals!
There was a reporter on the ferry. See for yourself.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mrbZ6cnZKk
The Paulnuts are crazy. Period.
MSNBC is still enjoying its corporate membership at the CFR so they spout propaganda that supports CFR candidates. More anti-Ron Paul propaganda. This is expected. Why no mention of who beat Guiliani at the straw poll?

What's wrong, couldn't come up witha cgood propaganda photograph of the lone supporter like you did at the Iowa straw poll?
If Mr. Giuliani wants to be treated with respect he should start treating other people with that same respect. I won't hold my breath.
PLEASE REMEMBER THAT GUILAINI IS......THE EVIL, COUNT ORLOV, OF LEMONY SNICKET FAME........THE SIMILIARITIES ARE OVERWHELMING!
LISTEN! We all agree, both conservatives and liberals and moderates: Rudy has gotten caught in thousands of lies and scandals. (Hell, 2 of his 3 police commissioner /best buds got busted for lawbreaking!)

He is more corrupt than all the other candidates combined, which is WHY he will win the election. (Have none of you ever heard that nice guys finish last?? I can't believe this!)

He is a corrupt shill for corporations and the Republicrat elite. Even Rudy's mom says he is a phony opportunist! Sheesh.

ALL The corporations are making sure Rudy wins, and this is why he cannot lose. (Most voters will never hear about 99% of Rudy's scandals.)

Republicans and Democrats must unite to stop the biggest two face in US history from getting this free ride. (Hell, Rudy doubled NYC's debt in just 8 years. Why will NO "journalists" write about this? Conservatives and liberals who do their homework all despise Crook Giuliani for a reason.)

GiulianiSCANDALS dot blogspot dot com
cxb, gabe, etc....Your complaints will carry more weight if you stop talking like tin-foil-hat-wearin', black-helicopter-avoidin' loons.

"All the Corporations"? That would surprise Messrs. Buffett, Burkle, Soros, etc.
