Cheap Shot From The Border

Posted: Wednesday, September 26, 2007 9:32 PM by Chuck Todd

From NBC's Chuck Todd
That was a cheap shot by Richardson. We asked him because he's a border-state governor. I guess we should not have looked at the governor's resume and determined he might be the most thoughtful on this topic.

There was a racist undertone in asking Richardson first. How dare him stand up for himself comically.
He's running for President, he's already won New Mexico! Ask him questions that a president would have to answer. It is a Presidential debate.
It may not have been a cheap shot, but it really wasn't the best question you could have asked about immigration. Why not ask them what the problem is at the border and how they plan to address it? Seems like a more important question than some inside-baseball legal semantics between state and federal govt's.
Chill Chuck!  Bill has a great sense of humor - I think he was diffusing the racist undertone. Why not ask him the question?  To me it is logical to ask him since he has the experience as governor of a border state.
Whether intended or not, there was a racist undertone.  I thought that you asked him first because he is a Latino before he said it.  Regardless, he gave a good answer.
Oh please. It did seem racist. I agree with Jeff. And Richardson was gentlemanly enough to turn it with a mild joke.
Cheap shot?  That was what is referred to as a "joke."
