Huckabee's Band Aid

Posted: Saturday, September 29, 2007 10:23 AM by Chuck Todd

From NBC/NJ's Mike Memoli
LONDONDERRY, N.H. -- Mike Huckabee let his bass guitar do the talking as he kicked off a weekend trip to the Granite State by jamming at a local bar here.

Huckabee traded his band, Capitol Offense, for local rockers Mama Kicks Friday night as he played before a crowd mixed with supporters and curious onlookers. "Would you like a president who has pardoned Keith Richards?" asked Fred Bramante, Huckabee's state co-chairman, as he introduced the former Arkansas governor. "Would you like a president who knows how to rock?"

The performance at Whippersnappers was a limited engagement; Huckabee played seven songs, including "Born to Be Wild," "Jailhouse Rock" and "Sweet Home Alabama." He didn't know the set list before he got on stage, but seemed to have no trouble keeping up. "I just had to follow them," he said.

Huckabee was joined on stage for three songs by former Boston guitarist Barry Goudreau. Boston's Tom Scholz was also on hand. "I couldn't believe I met those guys," Huckabee said after. "I was like speechless. I really was like a little kid."

huckabee also made a very detailed, major policy speech on Foreign policy yesterday. He just not plays the guitar.
Maybe FirstRead should also cover those events.

Gullible people who think Huckabee is this really  with-it guy with a great sense of humor and a preacher's moral compass should check out what the  newspapers here in Arkansas reported about him during his years as governor.

In a nutshell, he's a real phony. Rather than being the conservative he presents himself as being, he was and is a political centrist who personally did little to cut taxes as governor. Secondly, he was/is extremely thin-skinned where public scrutiny and criticism are concerned. If he didn't like what newspapers were saying about him, he banned their reporters from interviews and/or arrogantly refused to explain himself. Worst of all, his carefully crafted image as a person with great character is an outright lie. (Probably his greatest hypocrisy was/is his book on the subject, kinda like a fox explaining how chickens can be protected.) His term in office was scarred by several incidents of egregious venality, if not outright corruption. In my opinion, if a governor of another state where corruption is NOT the norm (in Arkansas it's tolerated) had acted in office as Huckabee did, he might very well have ended up being impeached or even prosecuted for criminal behavior.
This guy is the best choice for president. Pro-Union, Pro-2nd Amendment. Green ideas for Energy independence. Family Values. A guy that won't humiliate the country with scandal after scandal. He has a good sense of humor. At Baltimore I was impressed with how he was pushing for equality in the justice system. Seems like There isn't one group that he is pushing for, he just wants what is best for America.

To reporter NBC/NJ's Mike Memoli:
We're not sure what was in the kool-aid but I can assure you that Tom Scholz was not in LONDONDERRY, N.H. He was not at any bar nor did he see Mike Huckabee play with a band. Thank you. Signed, the publicist for Tom Scholz and the Band BOSTON www.bandboston.com
Huckabee is becoming more electable by the week.
Huckabee is right. Our children need all that music and the arts teach as they enter into the world of High-Tech. A world of Math, Languages, Graphics.

Governor Huckabee loves music. What a wonderful example for all our young people who love music and also care about the politics of our nation! They Can do Both!
He is still a preacher and it shows during the debates. We have had one preacher(Bush and his godspeak)enough is enough.A good man?How do you really know? They all say they are good men--until they are caught.
Even though they're on different ends of the political spectrum...I see a lot of Bill Clinton qualities in Huckabee.  Both are talented musicians, very polished speakers, great communicators, both have a great ability to unite, etc.  I liked Clinton, and I'm really starting to like Huckabee.
We have some video of this on our blog

It was a great night. The Governor works hard at music -it was not a "photo op" He does this to unwind.

To previous commenter Gail, the publicist - you're right,Tom Scholz was not there, it was Fran Sheehan. The NBC reporter (nice guy) was next to me trying to record notes, interview,it was noisy and it was an honest mistake.(people were discussing other band members in the conversation also) No harm No foul OK?

                                MIKE HUCKABEE”S WILLIE HORTON
Republican presidential candidate, Mike Huckabee, the former governor from Hope, Arkansas, is hoping you don’t look in his closet because there's a Willie Horton hiding in there.

Huckabee's Horton is a monster named Wayne Dumond, a criminal with a long rap sheet of assaults, and sexual molestations. Dumond an admitted participant in massacre of a Cambodian village when he was stationed in Vietnam returned to the US where he admitted to participating in a claw hammer murder of a fellow soldier in 1972. Dumond was convicted of sexual molestation of a teen age victim in 1973 and confessed to a rape charge in 1976.
Huckabee, ignoring Dumond’s reprehensible criminal record, bought into the Clinton hating, rightwing, partisans,  that were attempting to smear Bill Clinton for the rape of a 16 year old girl high school cheerleader that Dumond kidnapped at knifepoint, raped and terrorized for two days. Dumond was convicted of this crime in 1985 and sentenced to life plus 20 years.
Huckabee worked, against the advice of the parole board and law enforcement officials, to secure Dumond's release from prison. Dumond's 16 year old victim, Ashley Stevens, upon learning of Huckabee's attempts to free her assailant, met with the governor and said she put her face inches from Huckabee’s and said, “This is how close I was to Wayne Dumond. I will never forget his face. And now I don’t want you ever to forget my face.”
Undaunted, governor Huckabee, toiled on, eventually securing Dumond's release from prison on the condition that Dumond move out of Arkansas. Dumond complied, and moved to Missouri, where six weeks later he raped and murdered  39 year old  Carol Sue Shields. Dumond was convicted of Shields’ murder based on DNA evidence. Dumond died peacefully in his sleep on 9/7/2005,  before he could be brought to trial in the rape and murder of a second victim, Sara Andrasek.
Dumond’s murders committed after Huckabee had secured his release from prison resulted in a firestorm of public condemnation. The govenor responded to the criticism by denying he had anything to do with turning Dumond loose on the American public, in spite of voluminous testimony to the contrary.
Blind adherence to rigid political ideology, an absolute refusal to accept advice from others and stubborn refusal to accept responsibility for his own actions, has not served George W, Bush well as a President. These shared character defects will not wear well on Presidential candidate, Mike Huckabee either.
Ironically, or perhaps predictably, Huckabee is emerging as the consensus choice among so called Christian Conservatives. Go figure.
