Paul ‘Revolution’ rally draws 800

Posted: Monday, October 01, 2007 12:06 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC/NJ’s Mike Memoli
Even a half hour after Ron Paul's "Revolution" rally ended in downtown Manchester, there was a crowd larger than other candidates could only hope to draw. The campaign estimated that as many as 800 people showed up as the Texas congressman kicked off a canvassing effort in New Hampshire's three largest cities.

The campaign gave out buttons asking: "Who is Ron Paul?" But who are Ron Paul's supporters? "I think they're new to the process," said Paul's son, Rand Paul. "We definitely have Democrats that are crossing over, Libertarians crossing over, Independents crossing over. And I think the people that come out are definitely gonna vote."

Rand Paul said that every day he's surprised at "how big" his father's campaign has gotten. Last week, they asked supporters to raise $500,000. "They passed that in three days, and now we're asking them to raise a million," Rand Paul said. By Sunday, they had done just that. And Rand Paul said his father might end the third fundraising quarter with more cash on hand than most of the other Republicans. "We may have more money on hand than Romney if you subtract what he's given himself," he said.

Paul rejected a comparison to Howard Dean's Internet fueled 2004 campaign, which fizzled by the time votes were actually cast. "My dad has been going around the country for 30 years, and has a following," Paul said. "It's definitely a committed core. Howard Dean didn't have that cohesive message and a philosophy." What Dean and Paul have in common is their anti-war message. And Paul said his father's stance makes him the Republican with "the best chance of getting independent voters over."

Show your support. Search ebay for Ron Paul t-shirts and wear them every where. We need to get people outside of the internet interested. We know he's the best, now convince the rest. If you've been turn off to voting in the past because you thought it didn't matter, This is the man worth voting for!
Thanks for the balanced report. Ron Paul is drawing huge crowds from coast to coast. He has more Meet Up groups than all the other candidates combined. Our Meet Up group organized a banner wave at a busy intersection, last Saturday noon. More than 50 people turned up for the event. This grassroots support amounts to a revolution, but a peaceful one, hence the "love" in rEVOLution. Dr. Paul brings integrity, honesty, humility and consistency to the race, qualities unheard of in the past.
"Thank you for a nice, balanced article on the only candidate that can beat the Democrats.

www.ronpaul2008.com "

I don't care about "beating" anyone. the only thing I care about is electing people to office who will
preserve protect and defend the constitution, and
clearly UNDERSTAND what that means.

Paul is one of the very few who actually believe the constitution limits federal power, and takes his oath of office seriously.

MSN, thank you for a substantive and positive post on Ron Paul.  I do not know if he has a realistic shot at winning.  Even if he does not, that probably says more about our process than the merits of his candidacy.  However, I do believe that the market place of ideas is more than big enough for a candidate like Ron Paul to receive some considerable coverage, coverage beyond the sound byte type (i.e., "Ron Paul vs. Mike Huckaby" at the debate).  Please continue to give not only Ron Paul, but also also all the candidates -- on both sides -- coverage so that the voters can decide for themselves.
Thank you MSNBC for giving coverage to Dr. Paul.

He is the only candidate that has read and actually understands the Constitution.
To find out more about Ron Paul just google his name.  The Ron Paul Library is a good place to start. One thing about him that is very important to me is that he is the only candidate running who has said that upon becoming President, he will get rid of all those excessive executive powers that Bush gave to himself and that will automatically pass on to the next President.
Ron Paul 2008!

If it boils down to a Clinton - Guiliani or a Clinton - Thompson race (in fact if Clinton wins the Democratic nomination) .......

A third party run by Ron Paul would be welcome.

I'm a left-Democrat...
and I can't stand Libertarianism.......

But, better Ron Paul than Hillary Clinton
At least we'd get out of Iraq

Hillary won't guarantee that in her first term
Apparently, Hillary has signed on to attack Iran

Is that Neroism or what ??
Why attack Iran ?
Aren't we losing enough wars, already

Better Ron Paul thatn Hillary Clinton
Finally we have a candidate with the courage to:
1. Use Federalism as an early antidote to Socialism.
2. Question why we have 700 military bases in 130 countries.

Thanks for the article on RP.
Ron Paul is a vote to get our country back on track. I can't believe where the dollar has gone. Maybe it is with our depleating freedoms somewhere. Thank goodness for a candidate like Ron Paul. Vote!

Thank you Mr. Memoli for no low blows in thes brief article.  You are one of the few!  I hope you'll be voting for Ron Paul too and to save this country as so many just don't understand what is really going on.

Tuck in Cluelessville, Kansas: Keep saying things like that and it will cause some people to wish your mother had made a different choice.
THANK YOU MSNBC.COM FOR THIS ARTICLE ABOUT DR. PAUL.
I WISH SOME OF THE OTHER NEWS CHANNELS WOULD GIVE HIM THE CREDIT HE IS DUE, AND REPORT THE NEWS ACCURATELY REGARDING DR. PAUL AND HIS SUPPORTERS. I AM ONE OF THE DEMOCRATS WHO CHANGED OVER AND WHO IS NOW REGISTERED AS A REPUBLICAN SO I CAN VOTE FOR THIS AMAZING MAN.  HE IS OUR FUTURE, AND HE HAS MY VOTE. GOD BLESS YOU RON PAUL.
As a progressive democrat I am very impressed with Ron Paul and possibly be the ONLY time that I will vote Republican.
Thank you for the clarification Freedom Lover.

On a separate note, it seems more of Dr. Paul's responsibility to campaign for himself, not the media's responsibility.  Of course, it is nice when you candidate does garner some attention.
Thank you MSNBC. Please endeavor to report the news not give opinion.
All the latest and greatest on Ron Paul:

I'm voting for Ron Paul because he has a 100% constitutional voting record. He never accepts political junkets, has never voted for a tax increase, he is Pro-life, he voted against the war in Iraq, and is for instating letters of marquis and reprisal so that we can concentrate on bringing Osama Bin Laden to justice.
I had not registered as a Republican for over thirty years. But Ron Paul is a man who has promised to get the government out of my wallet and out of my personal affairs. That means a lot to me, so he has my support for President in 2008!
Just got back from lunch where I paid $10 for a sandwich combo meal.

Milk is at $4/gal. Gas at $3/gal.

So the dollar is worth 40% less than 2003 but I'm only making 20% more.

Pretty soon we're going to be dealing with Monopolt money here.
Bravo MSNBC, finally something on Ron Paul that was not a hit piece, thank you.
The rEVOLution is against the CFR corporate cabal which has owned both parties for a long time.

Finally a Major New Media actually covering the events happening!  Ron Paul has substantial dedicated support and the "news" that I see is all opinion and editorializing.  This was blatant in New Hampshire this weekend.  When 800 people show up at an event, it should be covered not ignored.  The media's primary job is to report the news and only after that, to 'educate'.  Great job MSNBC!  Keep up the REAL news coverage!
Great article.  It's good to know that there is a mainstream media outlet committed to a fair and balanced coverage of the Ron Paul Revolution.  Shame on Faux News!  Kudos to MSNBC!
70% of Americans want us out of Iraq.

Hillary, Obama, Edwards - no guaranty by 2013. All have stated an interest in bombing Iran as well.

Giuliani, Thompson, Romney, McCain - Stay the course in Iraq then bomb Iran.

Ron Paul is listening to America.  Ron Paul is listening to the founding fathers.  It should not be a mystery to anyone why he is doing so well.

Thank you MSNBC.  Please continue to cover this great statesman of our time.

Hey Tuck, you are absolutely incorrect. Maybe you should check and read Ron Pauls' voting record. Why are so many Americans so clueless?
Hooray for MSNBC! Hooray for Ron Paul!  Hooray for freedom, prosperity, and peace!
Wow! I'm shocked to find a positive Ron Paul story! I google him once or twice a week to read related news stories, and 99% of the time they either downplay his success or are outright negative.

I was so excited to see that he achieved the $1,000,000!

I'm a conservative, homeschooling Christian mom and plan on voting for Ron Paul in our primary. If he doesn't win the nomination, I will be sitting out the 2008 presidential election. Yep. Seriously.
Count my vote also for freedom and Dr Ron Paul. Now we need local politicians whom endorse his views so we can vote out the bums running my state.
'WHAT?! - "...a crowd larger than other candidates could only hope to draw." - 800 people?  Barack Obama drew 24,000 to his rally in NYC last week.  Now THAT's a crowd larger than any other candidate CAN hope to draw!!'

The article was referring to the Republican candidates.  Obama does indeed draw large crowds.  I would love to see Paul vs. Obama in the Big One.
Ron Paul's crowds will continue grow! Ron Paul SPEAKS to Americans! He is a true Statesman who is refreshing to listen to and to learn from. His message of peace, freedom and economic prosperity is that of common sense - and THAT is something WE Americans have been aching to hear!
To Tuck in Realityville - You are incorrect. Ron Paul believes these decisions do not belong to the Federal government at all. He states plainly that the states shall decide. God bless you,
I would like to personally thank MSNBC for recognizing and "acknowledging" the success of the Ron Paul Campaign. Your motto should be "Actually Fair and Actually Balanced"! Thank you.
Go Ron!
Thank you for the coverage on Ron Paul.  It is about time the media started to cover him, and start treating him with the respect Dr. Paul deserves.  For those that ask the question, who is Ron Paul?  Go to his website:

http://www.ronpaul2008.com

He has my vote for sure, and my total support.
Thanks again MSNBC

Theresa
Go Ron! I love you brother! Los Angeles is coming together for you!
Thank you for this article, I'd never heard of Ron Paul until the debates, and the more I look into him and the other candidates the more I realize that MSNBC is the only news source that's intersting in giving real "fair and balanced" coverage!
I dig it, and I dugg it.
Brett, his stance on all of the issues are at ronpaul2008.com

And Tuck, you are 100% incorrect. Ron Paul's personal views on abortion is that he disagrees with abortion. But, in the same breath, he says that it should not be up to the federal government to decide.
Finally, A nice article about Ron Paul and his supporters.

Never let down, never give up no matter how the media likes to smear us.

Ron Paul 2004
The republican contest is between outright greedy sociopaths and one outright lunatic, Ron Paul.  He believes that there should be no social programs in the US.  NO help for Louisiana and Mississippi or Texas after Katrina, etc.  No medical insurance for children under SCHIP.  No pensions for the sick and elderly.  No emergency room care for those without medical insurance.  And as for basic services which our society still does a good job on, like providing electricity, clean water, safe food etc., all of that would be up to market forces.  Remember how Texans (Enron etc.) brought on an electricity crisis in California, causing brownouts and steep price increases for everyone.  It was only with the meagre federal oversight that it was caught and stopped.  Under Paul economics its every person for themselves.  Ron Paul supporters are naive bumpkins.
Thank you MSNBC for mentioning Dr. Paul,  as there is a media blackout on him. Thank you Ron Paul for standing up to the elitist/corporatism which has overwhelmed this country and standing by the Constitution as our law, not the interests of corporations and elite.
Lynn said, "WHAT?! - "...a crowd larger than other candidates could only hope to draw." - 800 people?  Barack Obama drew 24,000 to his rally in NYC last week."  Lynn, they were talking about New Hampshire - the whole state has a much smaller population than NYC!  Paul has drawn bigger crowds than this in more populated cities.
Keep the coverage coming, and the readers will keep coming. Only an anti-war candidate can defeat the Democrats in 2008. Ron Paul's insistence on obeying the constitution, and preserving freedom and security at home rather than attempting to force it abroad attracts  more and more followers each day.
Unlike the socialist/fascist Republicrat and Demopublican clones, Ron Paul has a 30-year track record of practicing what he preaches and consistency in his record.

Nmae one other congressman or senator who refuses to collect his fat six-figure pension besides Dr. Paul.  He is the only Republican candidate who the Democrats need to fear.
Thanks for the coverag!. I'm not sure why mainstream media is so afraid of these "new" ideas of Dr. Paul's. They've been around for 200 years or so. Our founding fathers would be proud.

Ron Paul is the only candidate running who has proven over and over that he is FOR the American citizens, and against Big Government.

Please continue to cover his campaign. It's sure to be a great story!

This is excellent coverage of an event that I couldn't really find information about otherwise.  I would like to thank msnbc for providing me some objective coverage of the campaign.
I certainly agree with Dr Ron Paul's war stance, but I have to say that I disagree that he is a substitute for a democrat (which is probably a good thing).  I do, however, have concerns regarding Paul's tax policy (less is nice, but it isn't always right, and less is not always better).  I also have concerns over a Ron Paul isolationalist foreign policy.  It certainly won't help our standing in the world.  Foreign policy, if used right, can strongly benefit our nation and other democratic allies.

Pornstars for Paul!
I see what the media means by a huge Ron Paul online base.  The number of posts is amazing.
After reading some of these posts, I am happy to know that I'm not the only Massachusetts resident who is supporting Ron Paul. In a way, it's not surprising (even though MA is generally a Democratic state). Run, Congressman Paul, Run!
