Ron Paul raises $5 million!

First Read has learned that Ron Paul has raised more than $5 million: $5,080,000 to be exact. They don't have the total number or donors just yet or the exact average donation, but the campaign tells First Read that "last quarter was a $40 average donation; that trend appears to have continued."

***UPDATE*** Paul's cash on hand figure is $5.3 million, according to the campaign.

He is still not going to win anything. Look where the man is from, Freeport, Lake Jackson. The only reason he won in that district is because it bumps against District 22 (Tom Delay's). He had to run as a Republican, he would never win as a Democrat nor Libertarian. All you supporters on here that think he is so great; tell him to run as a Dem or Lib and see what happens. Ron Paul is fighting for the Republican party aginst the Tom Delay's whose contemptible behavior has turned our party into the most hated party in the world.

I am tired of being hated. I am tired of being lied to. Ron Paul is winning people to the Republican side to flush a party that has been broken by the smug elitists.

I was always told by my parents, who were Reagan supporters, that the GOP was the big tent. My parents are disgruntled with the party and are putting all of their weight behind Ron Paul. Ron Paul is making the tent big again, but the Tom Delays prefer to make it as small as possible. I, personally, think they are on their way out, unless they result to diabolicalness. Which they are.

This news made the hair on my neck stand on end! He is no longer the "darkhorse candidate." Regardless if he wins or not; this will force TRUE Goldwater/Reagan Conservative values to be addressed by the other clowns. Kyle: Tom Delay is from District 22 not District 14. What candidate are you talking about? Laughlin? The only reason Paul beat him was because Laughlin switched parties from Dem to republican and most republicans in that district didnt trust him. Paul was the only other candidate and Republicans were in the majority and needed to keep a republican in that seat. Shall I go on......for I know what I speak...

Everytime I saw a Ron Paul fundraising goal, I thought the campaign was over reaching. Every time people stepped up and the goals were exceeded. So, I'm not going to say that about the $12M goal. The Ron Paul supporters are gathering in new people today and that growing base will likely do it.

The momentum is on our side grassroots. Now it's time for us to take our Internet Army offline and WIN the election. Let's start paying attention to the one-on-one of neighborhood canvassing, neighborhood organizing - and expand the donor base.

Tell your real-world neighbors about Ron Paul. If they need to switch parties to vote for RP, then let them know how. Expanding the base of the GOP - and being able to beat the Dems - by expounding traditional solid GOP beliefs (certainly more than Guiliani) - is the way that Ron Paul will win the support of the existing GOP base. And Dr Paul is the only candidate who can do that.
