Another Fred gaffe

Posted: Wednesday, October 03, 2007 1:23 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC’s Joel Seidman

More gaffes from Fred Thompson: Not only has he misspoken or said he didn't know about Terri Schiavo, or the controversy about oil drilling in the Everglades, or that he was unaware that a federal judge had ruled that lethal injection procedures in his home state of Tennessee were unconstitutional, last night in Iowa he said that the Dems controlled congress when John Roberts went through his confirmation hearings for Chief Justice.

That is wrong, the Republicans still controlled the Senate and the Judiciary Committee of course, and Fred was designated to make the rounds on Capitol Hill at the time as Roberts’ shepherd.

Here’s what he said:

“The president called me up and asked me to help shepherd judge John Roberts’ nomination through the Senate confirmation process. I was honored that I got that call. I was honored that he thought I had enough friends on the Democratic side that they wouldn't run me out of town!

“We fought hard against each other, but I always thought that we had mutual respect. And that's what it takes.
“Even though the other party controlled the Judiciary committee, we got some votes there. For a good, sound, what I would call conservative justice.”

Simply unbelievable that anyone in their right mind would support this idiot!

ohmigod - does this guy have ANY speechwriters?  Maybe Dick Wolf can lend him some before it's too late!
Way to go, Ron!
Yet another confused individual.  Cannot believe that anyone is taking this guy seriously.

How going to spin this one, j?
haha...Wrong board...
The only people dumber than this old windbag are the idiots who support him. Typical "Bubba" candidate for the remaining braindead 30% that still supports Bush.
Dear republicans-

This is THE guy! Please nominate Fred, please.

Love,

The DNC

Van
Fred/Bush in 08!! DOH!!
Fred is Dead.

Vote for Ron Paul, instead, and win a *Free* Country!
This Thompson guy, what a character.  The other day he was talking about all blacks males would either be dead or in jail in a few years.  Then he wanted to give $5000 to every kid born in the country.  He ended the week by saying we should attack Pakistan.  More gaffes then you can count.
fred evidently needs that TV script writer who kept him looking so good 'in front of the camera' --so much for the TV star making a good POTUS ..even a Dem I can see he's no 'git along li'l doggie' Reagan!
Fred needs to start cackling .....

That's what you do when you don't know anything ....
.... or aren't honest enough to answer the question ...

Say good night, Gracie
Ok, I know in the past your standards have been low, but come on, even the republican voters have to be laughing at THIS guy!
Unfortunately, Thompson is the second coming of Ronald Reagan. Too bad for the Republicans it's not a younger, in the White House, Reagan.
Jerry's comments are clearly being made for one reason and one reason only - he's lonely. He needs attention. So he spends all day with one hand on his computer and the other on his ...oh no, there goes lunch!
Can he be worst than our President? Have we not suffered the slings & arrows of our Commander in Chief. He does not have a grasp of the King's English, how did this happen to a college graduate. Fred Thompson is just a tall, big, ugly guy who really didn't have act on Law & Order. Do we need another dummy in the White House, I say No!!!!!!!.
Hey you know this guy is as stupid as shrub.  I bet the wing-nuts would vote for him in a New York minute (if they knew what that was), the stupid people will never notice how stupid he is! God that will make him a shoe-in! They will think he is as SMART as they are.
Barcalounger Fred - the repubs answer to supporting another dimwit in office.
"Lazy by choice, stupid by nature: vote Hindenburg"
Freddie Thompson for President--

Fighting battles that don't exist.

And WINNING.
It looks like Fred is going to get the nomination and eventually the presidency. Remember, republicans as a whole tend to like presidents that are stupid. It makes them think that they can "have a beer with them". So I am predicting now, that Fred Thompson will be the president in 2009. Oh, and just to preempt people like Jerry who will respond to this with a tirade about Clinton, I agree with you. Clinton is just as bad as all these republican candidates. Can we, in a non-partisan way, please nominate a credible, intelligent candidate? Please?
"Ok, I know in the past your standards have been low, but come on, even the republican voters have to be laughing at THIS guy! "

Dude. After allowing a deranged monkey to steal an election? If ONLY!
A note to the Republican Party ,please pick Thompson or Guliani as your pick to run for President. Thank You.Loosers.
"That's what you do when you don't know anything ....
.... or aren't honest enough to answer the question ... "

Yeah, we all know how good republicans are at answering questions.  How many times was it Gonzales repeated "I don't recall"?  Was it as many as Bush said "I can't comment on an ongoing investigation"?, or was it as many as, when the investigation was over, Bush said: "I'm not commening on a closed matter.  Let's move on"?
Fred made a lousy Senator..and I am from Tennessee. We surely DO NOT need this man as the President of our country!
I aprrove of his message.
Freddie isn't the second coming of Reagan, he's Reagan during the second term when his Alzheimer's was beginning to show. I hope he "paid for that microphone!" Thank you Howard Baker!

P.S. to Dick Wolf: dump Freddie on FOX. He could sit in for Bill O'Reilly.
Fred is definitely the candidate of choice for the same 25% American crowd that still loves Bush.

Pat, you must be proud of that jerry joke. This is the 3rd time I've seen it. Getting anorexic?
Monkeys "Ok, I know in the past your standards have been low, but come on, even the republican voters have to be laughing at THIS guy!"  Oh but they are not monkey boy...you guys seem to already be counting Fred out that's great!  I'm glad you think you can tell republicans who they should vote for.  Seems you must be worried or not either way it doesn't matter we will have another republican in the WH next presidential election so you can leave the country monkey boy!  I have spoken my peoples I have spoken...

I think we can all agree that Bush is an idiot. But this guy - wow. From the relatively short time that he's been in the spotlight, it is obvious that he has the potential to trump even the most idiotic of presidents.
Someone earlier said it was hoped that FT would be the second coming of Regan.  It think he is, except he came back and brought the Alzymers (sp?) with him.
Run Fred, RUN!!!!!
For those of you who think Fred is dead, think again.  As we all know, the GOP LOVES a President who's an idiot.  Therefore, I bet on Fred in '08.
Fred makes The Shrub look like a brainiac in comparison. Please GOP NOMINATE HIM it would be a barrel of laughs come next year.
What is it with the GOP these days, that allows such loose cannons to be at the top? Lessee... it all began with Ronnie in 1980 and has not stopped since. One sure has to wonder about the "desperateness" of that Grand Old Party.

No matter who gets the nod on either side, it will likely be a Dem win in '08 (with an eye or two on those desperate people, as they can do & have done desperate things to win). Thank God... it is way past time for sanity to take over the reigns. We've been misled for all but 8 years of the last 27. My, how time flies.

GOP Metal Note: NEVER, EVER promote an actor to run for office ever again, especially for President. One must learn to have a solid command of historical fact as well as the ability to speak on the cuff.

Fred... go back to being another 'B' actor. I wonder how his legal skills are these days?
Fred makes Ronald Reagan look like a Mensa candidate.
Whoever wrote that comment about what Thompson said, is as dim-witted a demoncritic as I have ever heard...FOR YOU INFO, DUMMY, THE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE WAS LOADED WITH DEMS...YOU NEED A KICK IN THE PANTS, IF THERE IS ANYTHING IN THERE TO KICK!!!
Well, "they" said "Fast Freddie T." was just like Reagan, and apparently they're right.
It would seem as though Fred has Alzheimer's too.
Jan, Nashua, NH.  Yes and these idiot GOP Presidents as you so affectionately referred to them as have single handedly ended the cold war brought us out of a major recession (almost depression) brought peace security and prosperity to our country.  Even now our current brave idiot goes against the covnentinal so called elites (do as I say not as I do) and thinkers of the world to keep us safe from the dangers of a radical islamic ideology bent on our destruction.  History will continue to show how great these men were despite the ignorant opposition that is constantly on the wrong side of it.  So maybe we should re-assign the word idiot to the pompous elitist liberal thinkers of our time.  Because when it comes down to it what have they ever done for the safety and prosperity of the greatest country the world has ever seen?...your silence is deafening.
Tired of the ignorance -- You poor thing, it must have really hurt when you hit your head as you fell of the turnip truck.
I guess I should not be surprised that people put down candidates that do not speak the slick political talk. Those with that banter say just what the public wants to hear and that must mean they are smart (when they in fact are deceiving you). Bush certainly does not talk the slick political talk and makes the kind of mistakes the everyday joe would make, and I confess
I prefer this and look for the substance instead.

tired of the ignorance:  I'm amazed that you think we are safe and prosperous......food, utilities, gas are going up faster than my paycheck, and home prices are going down.  Also, ignorance, who exactly was in control of the congress and white house when we were attacked on 9/11.....it was the republicans....so much for saftey, and prosperity!!!

Thompson is unbelieable at best. The Republican Party is in a world of hurt. Hard to imagine this guy being anything that required thinking.
Tired: what the heck is a "liberal elitist" anyway? I've always wanted to know although I seriously doubt that the 70% of us who despise Bush fall into that category. Also, I'm amazed that anyone could be so delusional as to describe what we have now as "peace, security and prosperity". Unfortunately there isn't enough bandwidth here to list all the arguments against this, but rest assured.I have no doubt that history will give Bush due credit for his many contributions to America's current condition.
Hey, as a country stupid enough to elect bush, not once but twice, never under estimate the laziness of the America people.
Eric, we're not looking for someone who speaks the "slick political talk", just someone who knows what the hell they're talking about! This isn't the first time this guy has proven he's a complete idiot. Bush comparisons aside, Thompson obviously has no clue and is betting that republicans like movie stars SO much, they won't care what actually comes out of his mouth.
GOOD GRIEF! I thought Pres.Bush was dumb BUT Fred makes Bush look like a brain surgeon...OH I DO HOPE THE REPUBLICANS NOMINATE HIM!
