Clinton on her laugh

Posted: Wednesday, October 03, 2007 2:00 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC/NJ's Athena Jones
At First Read, we noted Clinton's laugh as deflection technique before she was on the Sunday shows. Today at the American Federation of Teachers' endorsement announcement, she addressed that it's been something political observers have started to notice.

She thanked the organization and while wrapping up, she said, "I don't want to go on too much longer, because it might cause me to laugh." That was met by laughter from the audience. She went on to say who knows what we'd hear about for the next week or two. "You've got to have a sense of humor in this business."

Voters Only Care About Giuliani, Clinton and Obama

Leading Emotional Response Polling Used to Predict Candidate Viability

GAINESVILLE, FL — October 2, 2007 — More voters feel that former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani is the “hottest” presidential candidate, according to a new type of non-verbal poll conducted by the leading company for predicting consumer behavior based on “Emotional Temperature.”   Only Giuliani, Sen. Hilary Clinton and Sen. Barak Obama arouse enough visceral excitement in voters to sustain them through the long primary process, concludes the SenseUS™ poll conducted by AdSAM® and Itracks, conducted September 15-21, 2007.
“Our poll correctly shows how intensely voters feel about each candidate, both positively and negatively,” said Jon Morris, PhD, president of AdSAM® and professor of advertising at the University of Florida.  “Giuliani leads all candidates in terms of Emotional Strength, which is most important now to the GOP as only 31% of Republican voters are enthusiastic or excited about their party”
Proven Method for Disproving Conventional Wisdom
The viability of former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney is called into question  by the poll.  Although he performs strongly in many traditional preference polls, 56% of Republicans feel “ambivalent” or “uninterested/unexcited” about him.
“To sustain a long campaign, a candidate must inspire strong feelings in voters,” Morris said. “In addition to Giuliani, Obama and Clinton, the only other candidates to register positive Emotional Temperature were Sen. John McCain and former senators Fred Thompson and John Edwards.”
The SenseUs™ candidate poll used the same AdSAM® methodology the company employed in 2006 to prove that ads that use sexy models in national women’s magazines are not compelling or effective at motivating female readers to buy.  To measure the Emotional Response the participants were asked “How does (name of each candidate)make you feel? .  The participants were then shown three rows of manikins – an icon-like figure - that represented their emotional reaction. Then they were asked to select one on each row.  The first group of manikins represented pleasure,  the second arousal or engagement, and the third control or dominance.
What Most Polls Miss
According to Dr. Morris, most polls focus heavily on rationale measures, which only reveal half the story, as every human response is a combination of rational and emotional processing.  Previously, the AdSAM® method has been used in over 600 proprietary studies worldwide and incorporated into research of many FORTUNE 500 companies.
About AdSAM®:
AdSAM® specializes in Emotional Response measurement.  The cross cultural technique has been used in over 26 countries in communications, marketing and other research.

Jerry's comments are clearly being made for one reason and one reason only - he's lonely. He needs attention. So he spends all day with one hand on his computer and the other on his ...oh no, there goes lunch!
Oh no, Jerry has a very high paying job. He told me so this morning.
You got to be joking me. Keep smiling and laughing Hillary, all the way to the "White House". hillaryclinton.com , it's no joke.
Ha ! Ha !
Resistance is futile....you will be assimilated. Not me....I'm not going without a fight. Go Obama.
That's okay Hillary - you'll be laughing even louder at your inauguration ceremony while Bush slowly goes insane with guilt from all the deaths and destruction he caused and history writes him off as the worst president the U.S. ever had.
Braying like a hyena on acid - how stylish - how like a politician from Arkansas.
I am but a man, but I must admit that the focus on the Clinton "Chortle" is offensive.   A man's laughing at a rediculous and offensive line of questions would never have been called into question or characterized as a witchy chortle.   Shame on all of us for holding such different standards for women.
She's cold and calculating, and obviously the weak of mind lap it up without thinking twice.  You can laugh all you want now but she will be God's gift to the Republicans in 08.
AS the baseball playoffs start in the next couple minutes this will be Hillary's true undoing. She could not be honest in the last debate who she would cheer for. True sports fans can disagree, but you have to take a stand. She showed that without a focused group tested answer, she has nothing to say.

And Van there is no way to spin the fact that she is a political sports fake.

Football and Baseball loving Dem men will never vote for a fake sports fan. Petty maybe, but true; as it shows alot.

First pitch just happened, let October baseball begin

Go Diamondbacks
I'm not currently a supporter, but she's good. Statements like that are making her more human!

And if her tail didn't keep sticking out, she'd have this human thing licked.
Hey tailpipe............read my other note.  Do you really have anything constructive to say or would you rather bring the whole level of discourse down.  For the Obama suppporters who claim to want a Change from this old crap, you should be condeming the very fact that she is even questioned.  The Audacity of Hope is just that.......only hope.

So all the republicans are leaving the party?
we'll have the last laugh!
She's a socialist whack job!

Bush makes an ass out of himself (and the U.S.A.) everytime he speaks in front of a public audience with yet another stumbling, bumbling, idiotic, moronic, mis-stated (non) fact, mis-pronounced name, or otherwise imbecilic valediction....and nobody seems to mind.
So, who cares about a little "nervous" laugh?
Oh by the way.....has First Read or any other media outlet ever taken this much time and effort to point out that Rudy Giulliani lisps like an elementary-school child?
One more time, people who come on here (Like Thomas in MA) and complain about the posts being newsworthy or not-- THIS IS A POLITICS BLOG.  IT IS NOT A NEWS BLOG, BUT A POLITICAL ITEM BLOG. IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE POSTS READ ANOTHER BLOG.  JESUS!

Get a real problem, you guys!

Keep it up, FIRST READ.
Obviously Rudy lisps on purpose to make himself seem more human.

Bush smirks on purpose to make himself seem more human.

Cheney farts on purpose to make himself seem human, except only dogs can hear it.
It's not a nervous laugh.  Hillary Clinton laughs when she doesn't want to answer a question.  She treats it like a joke, even if it wasn't.  There is nothing funny about it. I think it is entirely appropriate to point this out.
Anybody but this evil selfish woman as our President.  Why does the media keep talking up this idiotic candidate.  Why doesn't Obama or Edwards get the same amount of coverage?  I'm sick of hearing about Hillary she can't win period.  So why not focus on someone who can Obama/Edwards that's the ticket.  Anything less is four more years of the same republican't crap!
Poor Allan is dreaming about Hillary again. He cant stand the fact that a female will be president. Poor, poor Allan and Jerry.
Come on, it's just a cackle. Yes she has one. Yes she probably uses it from time to time when she can't think of anything to say. And yes, she probably just cackles at funny things from time to time. The media's coverage of presidential campaign politics is really in trouble when this is big news for so long.
The little woman will be laughing all the way to the White House. Good, I can't wait.
Jim B, no, George Bush was Gods gift to the republicans, showing them his wrath and/or a really twisted sense of humor.Another Clinton president is Gods gift to the democrats. He likes to be fair to the folks that follow in his footsteps you know.
Someone said Hillary is cold.

How cold is she going to look standing next to an pale old bald ghoul like Giuliani or Thompson?

I think she will positively glow with warmth standing next to those two old men.
LOL!!!! If the polls said we liked her better in pokadots you can rest assured that's all we'd see her in.  I have spoken my peoples I have spoken…
"The little woman will be laughing all the way to the White House...riding and cackeling on her broomstick the whole way there.  I have spoken yet again my peoples I have spoken yet again...
I have an idea let's vote for a republican, that way we can save ourselves the embarassment when Hillary looses.  Wake up everybody!  She can't win to many people see through her get on board with Obama and Edwards.  You can't say you haven't been warned
what the problem here? old fat hens always cackle
I'm a Dem and a teacher and don't know any teachers supporting Hillary. We've got better sense - and we're voting for Edwards.

F StLouis --- The little woman will be laughing all the way to the White House.

When is she taking the tour?  She'll need a ticket you know.  And they'll be none of that cackling while she's there, other people will be on the tour with her.
I think Hillary is brilliant to bring all this attention to her laugh.  Otherwise, people might discuss her lack of character, inability to tell the truth, lack of experience, and her vile personality.  What if people realized that her whole political career is based on being a professional victim - Bill's doormat?
I am amazed the hate spewers on this board. Can't anybody speak rationally about issues?  Of course Hillary will be president. She has devoted her life to families, women, and children and our country will be better for it.  She is also a pragmatists and has learned to work within the system.  And if anybody thinks they can get anything done without compromise then I have a bridge to sell in Brooklyn. This woman knows what it takes and I look forward to saying thank you Madam President!
Hilary sucks, i really can't stand to even look at her.  she makes me want to puke.  i hope she doesn't fool the American people, but the average aren't that bright so you never know.  i really can't wait until the election is over so we don't have to look at her or listen to that fake laugh anymore.  i wouldn't cross the street to see her.
if i wasn't a registered Independent, i'd vote for Edwards too.  i really hope he beats out hillary.  he should join forces with O'Bama so they can take that horrid woman down.
doesn't anyone see??? It's all a dog and pony show! we argue about democrats versus republicans like they're actually different... It's all smoke and mirrors!! no matter WHO gets in three things allways happen  1-taxes go up. 2 goverment (congress, senate, ect.)wages go up. 3 MY standard of living goes down.
BB, this is response to another thread. NO, i'm Not confused & you make me wonder what fascination it is You have with body parts. Are you an organ buyer or something? Unlike many on here, I don't have my head up Hillary's BUTT. Mom always told me to keep my ears clean, ya can't do that when your heads up someone's Butt. Have a nice day
Alice, people are not "hate spewers" because they dislike Hillary Clinton or they feel concerned by her many flaws and failings.  As far as issues, I can think of few issues more relevant than a politician completely lacking in morals, or a "feminist" who has shown young women that it is their responsibility to be treated like dirt, and to make up pathetic excuses for their cheating, lying husbands.  Maybe she just doesn't think she can achieve her career goals without her man.  Sorry, I would prefer a stronger role model for my daughter.
Two peas in a pod? Do individuals with the same ethical and moral backgrounds look for each other? Ex-president Clinton certainly had all the political polish the public admires and thus he must be smart. However, his moral standards fall short. What does it say about the moral standards if a spouse stays in place?
Has no one here considered the fact that she laughed on queue in all 5 of her Sunday morning talk show appearances? I guess I'm the only one who watched the Daily Show where they pieced them all together.  It's a fake laugh, designed to make her look "more human", and yes, maybe also to deflect certain questions.  Either way, it's clearly insincere and calculated.  I guess she'll probably win the nomination, but I'll be voting for Obama.
bb - I have nothing against a "qualified" women being president, and Hillary is not that person. Also my post hasd to do with her not taking a stand on something as simple as a baseball game. If she cannot make that type of decision than how is she going o make real important decisions.

Hillary has never had to stand behind any hard choice because what she actually decides means nothing. She has never run a business or a department or a government, nothing. I could care less if she wears a skirt, never does, but her womanhood is not a point of contention. Like Maureen Dowd said the other day. If it was not for nepotism she would be running for President of Vasser and even that would be a stretch for her qualifications, except for the fact that she can raise money.

and Alice- Hillary has spent her life aquiring power for Hillary and nothing else.

May the Best Woman Win
bb  "He cant stand the fact that a female will be president. "

I am getting so sick of people assuming that when  someone doesn't support Hillary, it has to do with her gender. Of course there are many who won't support her because she is a women, and many won't support Obama or Richardson because of their race. I'm sure there are still people who wouldn't support Biden, Dodd, Kucinich or Richardson because they are Catholic.

But voting for Hillary due to her gender is almost as bad as voting against her because her gender. No one has asked me if I wasn't supporting Richardson or Obama because of their race. But close to half the people who discover I'm not supporting Hillary in the primary are shocked, and will ask "But don't you want a women President", or "but you're a women, why aren't you supporting Hillary".

When I turn the table and ask why they support Hillary they can't come up with one specific reason. They'll say, she's the most intelligent. Really, where is the proof of that. Maybe she is, I rather doubt it, but as far as I know her IQ score hasn't been released. I understand Bill Clinton has an extremely high IQ (both the emotional one, and the traditional IQ) But I have no way of knowing how Hillary ranks next to the other Democrats as far as raw intelligence. I'd be interested in knowing Biden, Clinton, Dodd, Edwards, Kucinich, and Obama's LSAT scores, that wouldn't necessarily tell us whose the most intelligent, but it would provide a little insight.

Then they'll say Hillary is most experienced. Really, how? And they'll basically say because she was first lady. Ok, here's the problem I have with that. The only thing that I know for a fact she attempted outside of regular first lady duties was health care reform. And as much as she likes to claim it failed because of special interest groups, that isn't the full story. Hillary played a large role in the failure of health care in 93/94. I was shocked to learn during the debate on 9/26/07 in NH that the health care proposal Sen. Clinton's released last month is almost identical to one proposed in 1993 by GOP Senator Chafee. But Hillary would not compromise it was her vision of health care reform or none. Her proposal today could have passed in 93, given it was the plan of a GOP Senator, and the house, senate and WH were all under Democratic control, but she (not the insurance industry)would not compromise, and no change at all was made. And she has the chutzpah to say she is best able to reform health care.

Some will say she can bring people together. Really, where is the evidence of that? No one can name a single piece of legislation that she was instrumental in getting passed, not one. Yes she has worked on a couple issues with a Republican, although most of those have been GOP legislation, in other words she helped the GOP get Democratic support for their legislation.

Hillary is not a bad person, and I don't doubt she'd be far better than any of the GOP candidates as President, BUT the primary isn't about whether she's better than the GOP  candidates, of course she is. But please could one Hillary supporter please provide a facts how she is more qualified, would be a better President than Biden, Dodd, Edwards, Obama or Richardson. Not just Obama, but how is she more experienced than Dodd or Biden? If someone could actually provide factual reasons why Hillary should be the nominee, I'll proudly support her in the primary. But I've been asking her supporters for 6 months now, and not one supporter
has risen to the challenger.
her laugh is an obvious dodge from actually answering questions.
funny how someone who wants to be president is so unwilling to simply answer any questions but, that is what you can expect from someone who is hiding her true stands on the issues and doesn't want anyone to know.
How anyone can support a candidate who won't give an answer or take a stand on anything and think that is responsible is amazing.  And we wondered how we got Bush.  Because people gave him a free pass like clinton is getting now.
You cannot expect the problems of our country or for things to change unless you are willing to hold your candidate;s feet to the fire and demand they answer questions and support someone else if they don't
