DC forum sounds the music on Paul

Posted: Friday, October 05, 2007 11:10 AM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Andy Merten
Six GOP presidential candidates are taking their turns addressing the Americans for Prosperity "Defending the American Dream Summit" here in Washington, today. They are targeting government spending and taxation.  Casually watching the forum from our offices, we at First Read noticed some unfair time allocations to different candidates.

After Giuliani spoke for nearly 25 minutes, Ron Paul, who may have earned his time to speak with this quarter's fund raising, took the stage. Speaking for just over 10 minutes, Paul was then cut off by the stage music -- a tactic usually reserved for an emotional Oscar-winning actress (or one that gets a little too political) to wrap it up.

We'll have more about the forum, later, but thought this was an interesting tidbit.

Ron Paul while not everyones cup of tea, has earned to right to speak. Kind of ironic that a man that is a stanch defender of America and our constitution, while running for President of the United States speaking at a "Defending the American Dream Summit" is cut off in mid speach.
Another example of the manipulation by the machine.
why do the republicans keep cutting off Ron Paul? He's moved into a first Tier candiate , hasnt he?
that seems a bit ironic, republicans holding a debate about government spending being out of control.  I mean I know they campaign on spending less, but they certainly don't ever keep those promises, we've spent more money than ever in this country under their rule.  And it was all for nothing, we aren't safer, we aren't healthier, we aren't more employable.  While at the same time, the friends and collegues of the GOP are 10 times richer than they were.  Haliburton, Enron, WorldCom all these terrible things were made possible by republicans.... wake up you idiots, republicans don't want to spend less of your money.  They want more.  fools
Of course none of the other candidates want Ron Paul to speak. Why? Because he is intelligent, well spoken, and actually talks about the ideals of the REPUBLICAN party and not the shell it is today that panders to big business and has sold its soul to the Devil. The man will talk laps around Guilliani and the others on the issues that are important to the people of the country. I'd vote for him before any of the other yahoos running on that side of the ticket.
All of the filthy politicians are pissing their pants over Ron Paul, an honest moral man who consistently speaks the truth without spin.
Cut off by the music...typical.

Rudy speaks for 25 minutes and Ron Paul is silenced after 10.

The machine strikes again.

No wonder the GOP has lost 40% of its contributions in the last year, they're FOS.
I like the way the firstreaders let the mobs get to them.  People decry bias, and soon there is a thread to alleviate that.  Or maybe, it is a subtle admission of guilt.
Nobody cares more about the plight of the poor than true libertarian conservatives, like Ron Paul, who want to dump the evil Fed. Reserve and oppressive minimum wage / taxation schemes in our country.  Inflation KILLS the middle class and poor; Wall Street applauds it.  Why they would cut off Ron Paul is baffling - he alone talks about this very issue.  Clearly their agenda is WALL STREET's, NOT MAIN STREET's.  Ron Paul in 08!
Disgusting that our candidates are expected to "earn" their "right" to speak by how much money their campaign has earned.  They should be given equal opportunities, period.  And speaking of entitlement... Ron Paul has been a respected politician in our congress for 20 years.  Giuliani just happened to be the mayor of New York City during 911, and that, in a nutshell is his entire campaign platform.  How is he more qualified to speak about "Defending the American Dream" than a man like Ron Paul who has staunchly and consistently defended our constitution for 20 years?
Americans would have to have been living under a rock and/or the wlthiest in this country to continue to believe that Republican's are fiscally conservative. We have become a debtor nation to The Chinese inorder to fight this debacle called Iraq.Trickel down economics has been and continues to be a sham that enriches corporation and the 2-5% who benefits greatly from Bushes tax cuts. The enablers/apologists will continue to spout platitudes like tax and spend liberals while their borrow and spend family/moral values canidates laugh all the way to the bank so our future generation can pick up the tab.
The scoundrels of the inerantionalist establishment revealing their concern that their supranational scheme is threatened by an OB GYN.  Beautiful music indeed...
RON PAUL IN 08'

This country is broke, we don't need anymore lawyers, we need a Doctor!

We all need to start calling news organizations and corresponding to let them know we see through this BS.  Paul actually cares about this country and not his personal bank account!  Finally a statesmans has emerged!!!!!!
This is an outrage!  The only remedy to the government/corporate stranglehold on low-middle class Americans is to put an honest person in our highest government position.  If you look at state/local straw polls results nationwide where ALL the candidates were allowed to participate, you will be shocked. VOTE!

Ron Paul's Head-to-Head Records (Win-Lose-Tie): (Hint, Ron Paul beats every other contender)
>Refute these results if you can<

Mitt Romney 18-11-0
Fred Thompson 16-12-0
John McCain 25-3-0

ron paul should demand equal time, and he needs to do it in a very public way, so the machine can't continue it's shenanigans behind closed doors, it will be interesting to see how the media in general handles this, who wnats to bet it is not mentioned on fox news tv this evening?
Everytime we see this happen we should send $10 to Ron Paul.  :o)
There are obviously two different American Dreams.
Theirs and Ours.  Ron Paul doesn't stand up for the American dream "they" wnat to hear about.
How anyone could believe that any of these idiot GOPers, except Ron Paul,  could represent the "american dream" or "prosperity" is laughable.  I am starting to think the media is not liberal, but rather.. "establishment".  IF you are not an establishment candidate.. you won't get any favors with the news people.  If I were a republican, I would support Dr. Paul.
The important thing is KEEP SPREADING THE RON PAUL MESSAGE!!  Slowly, but surely we will get there.  The Revolution is upon us!

Ron Paul 2008!
I am not supporting Ron Paul but I am vehemently against any censorship. He has as much right to speak as anyone else and he should never be stifled by an orchestra or otherwise.

THIS is why I am anti-GOP - they are a bunch of snivelling COWARDS.
Whats FR whining about? If we took MSNBCs coverage of the Hillary and Bill Show, matched it against what they have given the other Dem runners,we would instantly find that the ratio is nearly exactly that given to Paul,or:

25% of candidate stories in the last month devoted to Hillary/Bill as opposed to 10% or less given to Obama,Edwards,[Paul himself],or Richardson. And don't take my word for it either. Start counting yourself beginning right now and end on Nov.5 and check the results of your unscientific survey. You will find that Hillary comes out on top head and shoulders above all candidates,Dem or GOP.[this only shows which way the political winds are blowing for Americas PRAVDA,which also has no business pointing fingers, when they themselves are acting as a Hillary campaign ad].
MK,
You're joking ... that's not even a bet, it's a certainty.  foxnews.com didn't even report on Ron Paul's surprising $5M 3Q fundraising until late yesterday.  On Wednesday FOX HEADLINE POLITICAL NEWS:  "Jeri Thompson is not a Trophy Wife".  sad, sad, sad.
Ron sure scares them.  That is the greatest indictment of the current version of the Republican party.  Ronald Reagan must be spinning in his grave right now.  Shame!!
American dream summit, is this the only way for the "Union of North America under Tom Donohue of the US Chamber of Commerce to take over America?  No one like listening to the truth and Ron Paul tells the truth. May 25, 2005 Mr. Paul on C-Span told the house of Rep. that there was $6 billion dollars that was being funded for Permanent US military bases and it took a fancy Texas-Two-Step dance by Condi Rice to squash the statement.
It is my hope that sooner or later our congressional people will really tell us the real reason our troops were used as a Agressive Nation in order to build another Nation to our liking. After all this country has sacrificed, but not by many of those sitting home and saying this is shameful.

George W. Bush and the neoconc have "WASTED" the lives of our Citizen Soldiers just to build a EMPIRE and they were wrong about the invasion and now we are in a "Cinco de Mayo" situation. One better than that, is Iraq just signed a contract to purchase weapons from China, 10-04,2007, saying that they could get them faster from China.

What the Hell are we giving them so called freedom and then being kicked in the teeth and feeding a Communist Nation that is building their military and loaning the USA money to continue the Middle East expansion.  It seems that here in America that the "Inmates are running the asylum". that is a quote from a financial times reporter 2 or 3 years ago. Just recently another saying appeared but I can not think of his name, I believe it was Paul Begala on the situation room saying it is like the "Snake eating his tail." Unless more Americans get off their duffs and stage walk out and peacefull demostration this country will be in Iraq when your grand children are ready for service, which at that time will be mandatory.

Jim McGovern, David Obey, John Murtha are right, the burdon of this war should be the whole nation not on our grandchildren. There should be calls for a complete pull out of all US personal in Iraq as it is the Middle East War Zone. The top will blow whether we leave now or 100 years from now. Petreaus was a military prop that this administration used as they used Colin Powellat the United Nations.  It was said that Colin Powell when reading the script  for the UN his comments as reported by Business Week was "You dfon't expect me to deliver this "BULLSHIT" to the UN do you. And the responce was this is the speech this  administration is requiring you to give.

If calculation are correct by March '08 our death toll on our military should be 4,300 military dead and 31,400+ wounded.  Jan.'07 we were told to wait until Sept for the report, when that was asked we had 3,000 dead military since then another 399 are dead.
It is time to cut our losses and become real Americans that will deter any and all agressors against the United States of America.  Before we lose everything, stand up and be counted as the real Americas.
The Ron Paul 2008 presidential campaign raised $5,080,000 during the third quarter of 2007. That is an impressive 114 percent increase from the second quarter.

Cash on hand for the Paul campaign is $5,300,000.

"Dr. Paul's message is freedom, peace and prosperity," said Paul campaign chairman Kent Snyder. "As these fundraising numbers show, more Americans each day are embracing Dr. Paul's message."

Ron Paul's 114 percent increase is in stark contrast to the decrease suffered by Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani, and John McCain. Romney's fundraising was down 29 percent. Giuliani was down 40 percent. McCain was down 55 percent.

-- Give the man the respect he deserves.
Wait. 6 of them showed up? Who were the other 5? Did we finally eliminate the second tier guys?
Thanks for the news and your increased coverage of Dr. Paul.  What you report on this post is just a continuation of the treatment that he's received from certain elements since entering the race.  When an RP fan gets a little upset and maybe makes an outrageous statement or two it's important to look past what is said and perhaps acknowledge why it is being said.  Many folks are angered by the treatment that a good man is receiving.  With an entire capital full of theives and liars our establishment has largely chosen the cleanest guy of the bunch to focus their smear jobs on.  There is no personal dirt on Ron Paul and it's hard to make a logical or constitutional argument against most of his positions.  What happens?  They try to ignore him while fingering out for discreditation any supporter who says anything even half-way out of line.  Thanks again for the news bit and coverage of Ron Paul.  I appreciate it.
Thanks for the post.  I noticed several weeks ago that the Dream people did not have Ron Paul's picture on the website although he was a confirmed speaker, but did have John Stossel's and that blonde guy. Oh, and they had FT's too, before he even announced. RP's pic is late in the list, and it does not remain on screen as long. Why can't people just be fair?  If he is so fringe, why be scared?

Also, I enjoyed reading the essay about Ron Paul on the Tavis Smiley Presidential Form website.  I did not know he offered to pay for the Rosa Parks, et. al gold medals with his own money instead of having the taxpayers do it.  The man is SO smart, and so principled.
It shows that neocons have entrenched the Republican establishment and they are out to get Ron Paul.  Neocons must know that their days are numbered once Ron Paul is elected.  It is also sad that a party which professes to be conservative would ditch a conservative like Ron Paul and support a cross-dresser like Rudy JulieAnnie.
"Everytime we see this happen we should send $10 to Ron Paul."

Can't afford it. I would owe his campaign thousands of dollars in short order.
The scum in washington can't handle the truth.
That's why they can't handle Ron Paul.
He must be silenced, belittled, patronized and sabotaged.
Because the other candidates could NEVER beat him by simply representing americans!!!! He's the only one that does that.
Time to stop beating about the Bush. Time for RON to get a 3rd party
party going next time round. The two party system is PATHETIC.
TxRedneck said it perfectly and thanks to MSNBC for making note of it!!

"There are obviously two different American Dreams.
Theirs and Ours.  Ron Paul doesn't stand up for the American dream "they" want to hear about."
How many times can Giuliani say "9/11" in 25 minutes.  He had to have gotten that in there tens of thousands of times.
That's ok.  Ron Paul can say more in 10 minutes than Rudy Giuliani could say in 25 <i>hours</i>.
Democrats would have cut Ron Paul off also. One is living in a dreamworld if they think there's any difference between Dems and Reps.

Dr. Paul is the only principled candidate that either party is fielding. I see him as an American, not as the representative of a party.
Why do people stand for these, one thing is politicians doing this BIAS aproach, other is people not raising hell to it.

I support Ron Paul message of truth, and no corrupt politic will ever get my vote.
As a life long Democrat, I will be supporting Ron Paul for president in 08. Sick of "politics as usual", Paul is the only candidate that gives me hope. Imagine a president that doesn't bow to big business, an honest president, one that has stood firm in his beliefs and a president that has stands up for American's. Ron Paul is the right choice. He has never voted to raise taxes, never voted to increase his own pay, gives back part of his yearly budget, and has NEVER TAKEN A PAID JUNKET. Lobbyist don't call on him because he CAN'T BE BOUGHT! Wake up GOP, Ron Paul is your only chance.
Holmes - maybe they feel guilty for marching us off to monkey boy's war without a single objective report. That's when they sounded like PRAVDA.

Such a case self-delusionment you suffer. I wish you a speedy recovery.
Thanks, MSNBC / Andy Merten for responsibly exposing this cheap, transparent attempt at muzzling a qualified candidate... evidence that Ron Paul has the "machine" running scared.  However, I do think the "amount of campaign funds raised" qualifier is invalid.  He should have equal time no matter how much or little money he has raised.
Dan Warner, you are right, in fact every time I see the media do this kind of manipulation towards Ron Paul, I am going to send Ron Paul a check for $10.00.  I bet I will meet my donation of $2300.00 very quickly. If I had started to do that from the beginning I would have given my full donation a long time ago.  As a now registered Republican (just so I can vote for Ron Paul) and as a former Dem, I pray that Giuliani, Mitt, or Thompson do not make it, they are idiots.  Giuliani scares me as much as Hillary does. Make sure to watch the upcoming Republican Debates next week, should be a real big disappointment to people when they find out the views of the other candidates and the lame responses they will give.  Ron Paul is going to out shine the others on that debate, just as he has on all the other debates.  I bet he is the only candidate that has actually read our Constitution and understands it, we all certainly know he is the only Republican candidate against the so called War in Iraq because it was an unconstitutional act.

Ron Paul for President he is our only hope for America.  http://RonPaul2008.com

God Bless you Ron Paul, you have my vote.  I thank you MSNBC for covering this.
I usually vote Democratic, since the NEO-cons took over the Republican party.  When I heard Ron Paul speak a number of times, I was shocked into paying attention to him. No wonder all the "NEO's" are so fearful of Ron Paul:  He speaks the truth from a place of knowledge. He speaks to the fears I have of my government gone berserk. Ron Paul is the calm in the eye of our current insanity.  I'll vote for him, and pray that others will sense the fine quality of this man.
to: amazed, atlanta

Maybe you should be a republican just so you can support paul.  If you agree with the guy, then why are you letting political affiliation hold you back?
Only members of the Council on Foreign Relations are considered acceptable by the "media" because both are owned and controlled by the same globalist traitors. Check to see who of the current candidates are members and dupes and you will see the "front runners". Does this tell you anything?
Very disappointing, but not surprising.

For me (as an RP supporter), I think it would be fascinating to political junkies and wonderful for all Americans if RP won the GOP nod... and ran against Hillary.

Think about it... it wouldn't be a contest for "the center."  No.  It would be a real national dialogue that America could have...

"freedom vs. security"

Paul vs. Clinton

The debates may prove to be brilliant... on the scale of Lincoln/Douglass... covering two central topics:

1) Iraq and American hegemony
2) the US dollar (the fed, unfunded long term liabilities, etc.)

No more nuanced differences.  Nope.  There'd be vivid differences in the world view of RP and HC.
Very good point, Lee. It's just that this one with Dr. Paul was just so blatant. It appears the MSM is pointing us down a road to a NY vs. NY election. Since when does NY represent what I believe in more than 2000 miles away?
I hope the people there in the audience expressed their outrage. Americans have woken up to this nonsense and it just won't work anymore. It should have been the opposite. Guliani is a snake whose ideas will only build on the current administration.
Thanks for continuing to report on Ron Paul.  He did not deserve to be preempted.
This is indeed an outrage!
Shame on Americans for Prosperity. Are they in the habit of only granting time to media anointed candidates? Is Dr Pauls' message not worthy of thier time? I will be emailing this organization my outrage.
Democrats would have cut Ron Paul off also. One is living in a dreamworld if they think there's any difference between Dems and Reps.

Dr. Paul is the only principled candidate that either party is fielding. I see him as an American, not as the representative of a party.
Not at all surprising that Republicans cut off Ron Paul.  They just can't stand listening to anyone other than their beloved Bush clones, Guiliani, Romney, Mccain, Hunter, Brownback et al.  If you don't stick to the script, you're outta here!
