George Allen, Liz Cheney To Spin For Thompson

Posted: Monday, October 08, 2007 10:31 AM by Chuck Todd

From NBC's Chuck Todd
*** See Updated Post.
One of the fun parts of being the host network of the debate is finding out first who the campaigns are lining up to spin for them post-debate.

The campaign with the most interesting spinners on their team for tomorrow's CNBC/MSNBC/WSJ debate: Fred Thompson.  His campaign has requested Spin Room credentials for one-time presidential hopeful/former Virginia Sen. George Allen as well as Liz Cheney, daughter of VP Cheney.  The other notable spinner for Thompson, since we're in Michigan, is former Sen. Spence Abraham.  BTW, for those keeping score, two of the three candidates who finished in the top 3 at the 2006 Southern Republican Leadership Conf. straw poll (hosted in Memphis in March '06) are both now with Thompson. Bill Frist finished 1st and George Allen finished in a tie for third. Mitt Romney was the surprise of the straw vote for placing second.

As for the other campaigns, here are their notable spinners (besides the folks you normally see at these debates):

-- John McCain: S.C. Sen. Lindsey Graham and former Sen. Phil Gramm.
-- Mitt Romney: A Michigan focus for his spinners, including brother Scott Romney and '06 GOP senate nominee Mike Bouchard.
-- Rudy Giuliani: former Mass. Gov. Paul Cellucci (only on Romney duty?) and noted economist Michael Boskin.

If any left wing loonie (thanks, Bill O) wins the presidency, i'm moving to Canada..though I won't be alive long enough to receive good health care.
If anyone can save Thompson's campaign and get us all on the right track towards defeating the Soviet Union, decent relations with Gaul, stability in Mesopotamia and better relations with Persia and Siam, it's George "Macaca: The One-Word Career-Killer" Allen. Kudos and huzzah, chicken-fried Southern good-old-boys!
Can Thompson beat himself? That is highly unlikely. He's been so bad in the quotes, one has to wonder if he attended law school under the same influence as Bush did Harvard?

Seriously, one has to remember one item: actors make horrible politicians and the one actor to make it all the way to the top probably never knew he ever lived in the White House. I may be exagerating &/or flippant, but actors are people trained to act, to make their audiences think they're someone other than their real selves. At least, with Bush, you can see his shifty eyes, his constant smirk and hear him make all sorts of grammatical mistakes and stammer.
The debate should be interesting.  Mr. Matthews is very good at what he does.  He's pretty fair to all sides of an issue, and knows when to ask a tough question.  And what's up with all the negativity, that funny little 'R' symbol?  The left is not always (in fact often) not right--I'm not sure if this is a pun, but it is intended.  It makes perfect sense for FirstRead to talk about the Spin room.  Firstly, it demonstrates who is supporting the candidates, and if Liz Cheney is, then we know that there is one republican daughter who doesn't support Obama (G-Obama).  Secondly, this information is important to the bloggers of FirstRead, and since you are reading just that, a blog, it makes sense that they would post this.  I mean, they have to go to the debate and the spin room, they might as well give their opinions.

P.S. Chuck Todd is HOTT!!!  I dare you to post this.
I am tired of hearing all the negativity from the left and the right. I am in the common sense middle and its a little scary here because the majority of the country has no idea what moderation is about. Neither party has the answer. Obama is too inexperienced, Hillary is a talking head who scripts everything (by the way, I did not realize being married to the President qualified you for a Senate seat), and according to ABC has the most tightly controlled campaign in history (when has anyone seen her speak from the cuff), Rudy has too many skeletons, McCain can be a bit looney, it goes on and on. However, of all the contenders, Thompson does seem to have a little more common sense and to be in touch with the average person. All of you saying he is dumb should do your homework. He had quite a political history before he was an actor. I know Thompson personally and I can tell you that he is neither stupid or lazy, he simply has old-fashioned manners and common sense. Also, all of you talking badly of Reagan need to remember the Carter years. Lastly, it is amusing that all the Hillary supporters call conservatives facists, while Hillary is an outright Socialist. Most Liberals resort to name calling and extreme views to help them avoid reality, after all, thats easier than actually having to educate yourself on world events and political and social science.
Oh boy, another warmongering neocon in the debate- can you feel the excitement?

I guess thats just one more guy to act offended and gang up on Ron Paul when Dr. Paul says we should get out of Iraq.
Some folks respond to differences in opinion with name-calling, and accusing others of being Bigots-- people they don't even know, who just have different ideas.

Try this on for size (if interested in broadening use of American language):

Bigot: one obstinately and unreasonably wedded to a particular belief or creed (the words of "Webster")

It is Not "unreasonable" to share the opinion that-- someone who Testifies Belief in "prophets" who teach them that running around 24 hrs. a day in special underwear will protect them, and that scriptures teaching there were steel-mills in Israel 2400 yrs.+- before the creation of steel in the 1800's, are "true," (1Nephi 4:9)--this is Not a healthy candidate for Leader of the free world. Comic book super heroes wear protective underwear, too. But "they" are not real.

It is not unreasonable to share the opinion that a candidate who helped fund lessons teaching gay/lesbian sex practices to Kindergarten children-- without parental notification or consent--a candidate who helps fund embryonic stem cell research, when he could stop his cash from going to this use, a candidate who does not use the leverage he possesses to even try to prevent porn from being on the TV's of "family" hotels, who contributed large sums to major Conservative groups, whose public records show he'd never contributed to before, nor any groups of their kind--just months before his campaign, who then turns around and tells voters to check with the groups for a good word about him...and the list goes on...is Not the socially Conservative candidated he portrays to American voters, nor does his record show he is the "values" "family" man he would like voters to "believe."

It is not biggoted to accept that a candidate, who, while governor, had 222,000 more of the residents of "his" state move out of that state than moved in--only the numbers Out-migrating kept "his" state's unemployment rates down--whose state was Only state which failed to report any gain in employeed residents during his term, whose state lost 31,000 registered Republicans while the Democrats gained 30,000 while he was in office--this candidate, while capable of creating great wealth for himself through forced buy-outs of American businesses, putting thousands of Americans out of jobs, is not likely to be any better managing one of the largest nations in the world than he was at managing the small state of Massachusetts.

Having grown up in Michigan, his father well known in the Michigan auto industry, his parents involved in Michigan politics...Romney needed family to show up for positive input after debate.

Anybody have the number for the American wake-up call?

--Jerry Perry, Huntsville, AL--  your plan is really working well for sexual offenders, too!
Has anyone researched Mr. Thompson's Senate record.  He did A LOT of good for his state - and NOT pork barrel!

Get your heads out of your orfices and read something, will ya?!  Or, are you the new uneducated liberals?
Typical Democrat thinking. It is O.K. for Hillary to have Sandy Berger on her team but Oh my, to have George Allen. How terrible. Why Sandy only stole top secret documents but George Allens 1 word is the worst ever...NOT
This country is better off than it was 6 years ago.  My 401k and stocks are booming.  Everyone can get a job who wants to work.  Mr. Bush has sent me 2 seperate tax refunds since he has been in office and the war in Iraq and Afghanistan is being fought by heros who volunteered for the job and doing it well.  Get a backbone Dems and support our country.  The war is justified.  Liberals in office caused 911 and republicans refuse to let it happen again.  Also, Fred Thompson has a better chance to win the presidency than Hillary or Obama.  If the Dems nominate either one they will absolutly LOSE.
Why would Fred Thompson even want an endorsement from George Allen?  This is a guy who had Virgina in his pocket and blew it because of dumb comments that he made repeatedly!!  He got beat by a guy who should not even be in the US Senate let alone represent Va. I would not want that guy to come close to my campaign.  What a joke.
They did not list the Democratic spin reps because it is a REPUBLICAN debate. Learn how the basic election system works before you spout your paranoid hate theories that reveil more about what type of person you are, than say anything about Democrat or Republicans
Lynn Cheney is Dick Cheneys wife. Liz is his daughter.
Spinners? What do you call them on the other side of the isle, truthers? Get your head out of your ass.
Any takers to wonder if Chuck Todd would have posted a blog post titled "Sandy Berger to Spin for Clinton," or "Oprah to Spin for Obama"?

Does anyone think that Chuck Todd would have used such a negative word as "spin" to describe the assistance a high profile supporter would give a Democrat candidate?

After that misleading headline, Todd cynically starts his post with the following:

"One of the fun parts of being the host network of the debate is finding out first who the campaigns are lining up to spin for them post-debate."

I see. So no candidate's supporter could ever come on to offer post debate commentary without it being "spin"? No one could possibly be honestly supporting their candidate? Is that how Chuck Todd sees the situation?

Now, politics fanatics would know that the post debate media pit is called the "spin room." But the headline doesn't explain that at all and certainly leaves the feel that Chuck Todd is saying "George Allen, Liz Cheney to Lie for Thompson." Leaving off the "room" to spin room materially changes the feel of the headline for most people who are not as plugged into the media and politics.

There's little doubt this could have been an accident.

No wonder the MSM can't report anything right! After all, they think everyone around them are liars, so they must imagine that they can put their "spin" on the news. After all, everyone else is doing it and all that.

His other observations were more like real reporting, straight, to the point and lacking his own "spin."

"The campaign with the most interesting spinners on their team for tomorrow's CNBC/MSNBC/WSJ debate: Fred Thompson. His campaign has requested Spin Room credentials for one-time presidential hopeful/former Virginia Sen. George Allen as well as Liz Cheney, daughter of VP Cheney. The other notable spinner for Thompson, since we're in Michigan, is former Sen. Spence Abraham. Bill Frist finished 1st and George Allen finished in a tie for third. Mitt Romney was the surprise of the straw vote for placing second."

So, why did he feel the need to start off with his own cynicism for politicians?

Only a real "journalist" knows for sure!

Apparently he needs a Macaca fighter!!!
...LOL...
Macaca's unite!
United we stand!
Yo Macaca, you my Macaca!
...LOL..
OH thats right, we're being distracted again, DOH!

Any party who would give any benefits to illegal aliens in this country is definitely leading this country in the wrong direction. If they are illegal, they have no rights to any benefits that the rest of us legal citizens have to work long and hard for.
Micheal Draper, Greensboro, NC said, "This country is better off than it was 6 years ago."  Mr. Draper, 6 years ago the national debt was roughtly 4.5 trillion dollars and dropping.  During the last month the Congress authorized an increase in the national debt to 9.0 trillion dollars.  From 1787 to 2001 the nation had accumulated a debt of 4.5 trillion dollars;  from 2001 to 2007 the nation has accumulated a debt of an additional 4.5 trillion dollars.  One debt took 214 years to accumulate.  George W. Bush only needed 6 years to match it.  If that is better off, I would hate to see worse off.  Mr. Draper's 401k and stocks may be booming, but unfortunately those are based on dollars and the dollar is falling every day because of our enormous national debt.  This country can not survive another 6 years like the last 6.  It may not survive the next 16 months of George W. Bush.
Micheal Draper, while you are so happy about your financial situation could you tell me who you expect to pay for the Iraq war? The share owed is about $20,000 per family; did you get enough Bush tax refunds to cover it and when do you start paying it off?
On the one hand, yes, the country is better off, but on the other hand, a Republican chia pet could have done a better job than Bush has.  But that's a debate that will never happen.
Just think America will have the oppotunity to see and hear once again that patriotic Virginian George the fool (Are all George's fools?) Allen who will attempt to give us all the true meaning of what to think about the Thompson debut as a debater. George the fool is the man who told America maccaca got caught in my zipper. I wonder what will get caught this time out? Having this bozo attempting to spin what comes out of Thompson's mouth should send shivers down any true conservatives back. Then again conservatives loved the other bumpkin George, the one who unfortunately resides in the White House.
Hey Michael Draper.... I hope your 401K is in Euros.. otherwise, you are screwed.  Have you checked the value of the dollar lately?  Ain't worth the paper it's printed on.
Does anyone know if Alan Keyes is participating in the debate this afternoon?  If he participates, no doubt he will win ....

Looking forward to the debate.  It airs at 1:00 p.m. on the West coast, correct?

Thanks,
Margie
Per Wiki, "Sam Brownback, Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee, John McCain, Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, and Fred Thompson have said they will attend. At the September 27 debate, Alan Keyes said he wanted to, but had been barred from participating."

Why has Ambassador Keyes been banned?  As the only African American among the Republican Presidential candidates, Ambassador Keyes holds a Ph.D. in Government from Harvard, and is a gifted public speaker.

Does anyone know why the ban?

The debate will be aired on MSNBC at 9 pm ET.

IF SEN. CLINTON OR OBAMA WIN, A CLOUD OF GLUE WILL DESCEND UPON THE NATION'S CAPS-LOCK KEYS, AND ALL ONLINE COMMENTS WILL FOREVER BE SHOUTING MATCHES LIKE THEY APPARENTLY HAVE IN LAKELAND, FL!!

RUN FOR THE HILLS, VOTE FER FRED!
Ron Paul will win as always.  He's the only small government conservative running.  The rest are New World Order jokers.
Ron Paul will win as usual.  The rest of the warmongerng big government quacks are not fit to be in the same room with him.  He's the only conservative running for president.  The rest are little George clones.
This is a party who just recently said they supported a presidential veto that eliminated six billion dollars a year for five years to help sick American children and their families on the grounds that it was a "budget buster," and during the same period demanded that the nation spend another 150 billion dollars next year alone on a worthless military adventure for a long ago lost war which has done much to murder children in foreign lands. Apparently the only thing the Republicans are consistant on other than deficit spending is their hatred of children of all nations.

One way to shut them up would be to take the word "TAX" out of the English Language. Since they use it at least twice in every sentence, being as they are devoid of any other material, removing it from the language would leave them unable to form a sentence.

What a glorious grouping of Neanderthals is our current Republican crop.
It took me a few minutes to figure it out, but Fred looks like a taller, heavier, Mr. Burns from The Simpsons!

This was not Ron Paul's best debate, but thank God someone up there has some actual knowledge and sense.

Romney said he'd consult the lawyers about attacking Iran? WTF?!  That sounds like something right out of America's Bush nightmare.  GW: "Well ah, we uh, you know, uh, consulted the lawyers, and uh, they said the paperwork, ah, looked good, so uh it's gonna be Shock And Awe II tonight. Hot damn tamale` Charlie!  It feels good!"
First - Create a point and/or argument without resorting to name calling.  Intelligent people don't throw out verbal assaults as an argument.

Second - If our $100,000 plus salaried elected officials in Washington were more concerned about coming together, sharing ideas, discussing differences and making positive change and less interested in making sure the "OTHER PARTY" doesn't get credit for good legislation by blocking any and all progress, we would not have this problem.  That is where we are at.  We are in an election process, so nothing gets done.  Nobody wants the other party to have something positive to talk about.  Guess what?  We pay them to do it!

Third - This is not right vs. left or democrats vs. republicans.  We are all Americans, folks.  Let's focus on what we can agree on and agree to disagree on the things we do not.

Big government can't fix social security, immigration, education and the list goes on.  But, it seems to think it has a plan that will work for universal health care?

Here is a piece of legislation I would like to see hit the floor:

All elected officials must cut salaries, health care packages and retirement packages by 50% until social security is stabilized, immigration is reformed and controlled and public education is at a respectable level.  Then, the government can come to their boss (american people) and present a plan for health care and ask for their 50% back.

FYI - I didn't have to blame anyone or call anyone a name in this post to make some valid points.
I was hopping that Fred would come out with guns blazing; however Fred is giving real credence to the Elmer Fudd image. I hope Fred can get it together and show people who he is and what he can do for the American people. If the Hillarycrats take charge you better find a friend with a farm so you can eat and brew a little gasohol for the old car. Think about it!
Spin?

You anger a conservative by lying to him

You anger a liberal by telling him the truth.
i think you guys are all stupid
