Clinton count

Posted: Tuesday, October 09, 2007 6:00 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC’s Andy Merten
Rough breakdown of Clinton mentions: Bill Clinton is mentioned twice (both by Rudy re: line-item veto) and Hillary five times, so far.

The breakdown:
Giuliani -- Iran and last debate
Romney -- she's just talked the talk, not done it
Giuliani -- she wants to put a lid on growth
Giuliani -- Hillary bond program ($5000 bond to every child)
Romney -- "Hillary Care"

Luckily for the Dems and too bad for the repubs, she won't be the nominee.
Why do the Republican candidates keep mentioning Hillary Clinton?  Easy.

1. She's the nominee (it doesn't matter that not a single vote has been cast).  The polls say she is ahead, so she must be "inevitable."

2.  They badly want her to be the nominee.  That's their only hope for keeping the White House.

Funny thing is, I do not know ONE person who wants to vote for her - and I live in a Democratic area.  Rigged system, anyone?
The boogy man is now a woman, how scary for white men every where. If all they can do is scare people then they are fit to wear Georgie's boots. How about some positive, looking forward talk. That is missing in the rebumplikan camp and will speak louder than their jingoistic claptrap.
they may call it" hillary care" but if we don,t have any other choices i guess the american people will go another
4 years without hope of change in our  present "sicko system"
If there is anything that scares a republican it is an intelligent woman. She could defeat any two of the repub candidates and they know it. Who do you think they would be attacking Kucinich ?
It's just mind blowing that the Repunicans are still sticking to their Clinton Bashing script. I guess it is because, they have no successes in the past 7 years to tout, only failures and the USA farther in debt than ever before. Hillary Clinton is going to be our next President so you all better get used to it. After the past 7 years, I would welcome Elmer Fudd than the dud that has been taking up space in the Oval Office!!!
Well, here we go again.  Some wacko's fear a woman, hopefully she won't kill our son for oil stocks.  She'd probably lead the military charge, unlike the whippy GOP men.  Talk about mice, coward PREZ and V.P. Give'em HELL Hillary.
Hillary is a sure win,we need a women to show the men that a women can run our county just as well as a men.she can't make a bigger mess than Bush.
All the women should vote for hillary.
The Clinton X2 bashing is because "they" are the leading Democrats. If you think the next 4 years of Hillary care will be better than the last 7 Under Presedent Bush with the S Chip program which, is going to be expanded to cover an additional 5 million children the libs are not paying attention.
I will vote for the democratic person who ever it is. The current republican administration has violated every rule that there is. One example is look at the nationaal dept. It keeps getting bigger instead of getting smaller.
Republicans keep talking tax cuts, but at current spending levels a tax increase is in order. There was no talk about spending cuts, or at the very least redirecting spending to help Americans, recover lost industry, rebuild our badly neglected infrastructure - basically things for America.
Who gives a rat arse about what Clinton thinks, really???.  Giulani is such a pompus Arse.  Why Giulani kept bringing up Hitlary Clinton during this debate is beyond me.  Oh...my gosh and Thompson forgot his script....Anything Thompson said was soooo...stupid I cannot even relate.  Ron Paul, Huckabee, Tancredo, and Mitt, were the only candidates that made any sense, well maybe Hunter added in a few key points. I sat there watching this debate thinking what the hell has our country come to.  We have Hiltary Clinton being brought up every time by Mr. 911 (Giuliani), thank God he didn't bring up 911 every time) and Thompson not knowing what the heck he was talking about, to the only 4 normal people left that seem to care about the American People, and those individuals were Ron Paul, Tancredo, Huckabee and Mitt.  OMG...I pray that Ron Paul is our next President if not we are doomed. Oh and Mitt we do not need Attornies to tell us to go to war...give me a break.

please read up on Ron Paul

Keep in mind that Bill Clinton had a budget surplus, he created 22 million new jobs, and our country had some very prosperous years when he was our president. Bill Clinton in many ways was a great president. I believe that Hillary, if elected, will be a great president.
The top Republican nominees know we as America need a change, but they are mentioning Clinton because she would lead us the wrong direction.  They are concerned that the public is so easily manipulated into believing socialist health care, higher taxes, and weak defense is the answer.  Republicans are pointing out she has a history of saying whatever it takes to be elected, but she follows no set of personal principles when deciding where she stands on issues.
well i guess hillary comments are wooping up a storm here, deep down people are well aware what 4 years of the clintons in the white house will bring AND i don't mean anything perverse
When Bill Clinton was president, this country was building towards the future and was respected worldwide. Then we turn the country over to Bush who has made even some of our allies afraid to stand with us because of some of his stupid mistakes and he taken this country backwards and all the republicans know it and all they can do is go back and bash the Clinton years. Well we will be bashing Bush for centuries to come because what he did to this country has been nothing short of ridiculous. Bush will go down in history as the worse president in history. And the Republicans have nothing else to say because they have screwed up so badly and can't admit it and won't admit it. If they did I probably could have more respect for them. But they don't have any class. Hillary will begin the process of bringing America back to the great country truly are. A country of hope and promise for all who seek it. And make no mistake about it, we are truly a great country! I look forward to the next 4 years of the White House being run by the best possible hope for this country, President Hillary Clinton.
Rufus intelligent woman you say, sure if she sticks to her script she is given. But if you take her out of her comfort zone she is just another babbling lib .  Rick maybe you should study your facts a little more, our nations debt has decreased in the last 2 years-by 35%, our gdp is up 7% from last year, the dow is over 14,000, the gov't has taken in over 2 trillion dollars in taxes in the last year(thanks to Bush's tax cuts) Oh and our unemployment rate is at about 4.7%, when are you libs gonna stop avoiding reality, our economy is booming, all the numbers are there( even despite the mortgage fall-out, imagine that) but you just don't want to believe it. So I say if you don't start looking outside your little box for once in your life, and start paying attention to what the front running Dems our saying about raising your taxes then you deserve what you get, as if you don't pay enough already, lol I feel sorry for you people. one more thing the Democratic lead Congress approval rating is hovering around 11%, good job Dems(so much for them first 100 hours, huh), even Bush's approval is higher, lol.
2008 President Hillary Clinton
V.P. BaracK Obama
Ambassor U.N. Bill Clinton
Secretary of State, John Edwards
Treasury Secretary, Diane Feinstein
Secretary of Labor, Maxine Waters
and on and on and on and it's about time the woman get their chance to see if they can make honest men out of American males.
Hill is a smart campaigner solidifying her base,as (karl Rove taught Bush) with domestics issues.. anddr her opponents foolishly attack with no alternativesif she gets the "women with needs" , the working poor and minorities as her devout followers and slowly it dawns on her opponents her numbers did not fall because of "the laugh", Hsu, that vote.
Hillary Clinton is the likely nominee and everyone knew she would be for years now!

Of course they are going to mention her, Hillary is who they are going to be running against.
In life I have found men will often attack a women's character, intelligence, I guess it helps build themselves up in their own eye.  Hillary will make a great President. BOZO the Clown would even be better than George Bush, BOZO could probably run to sentences together by himself without someone writing them down for him.
The public arrogance of Republicants is breath-taking. Ron in Illinois doesn't know of ONE Clinton supporter... and, oh, he lives in a Democratic district.  So, his conclusion?  There aren't actually any Clinton supporters! LOL!
Guess if she wins the nomination Bill will be her running mate if possible. Why not he is still a well liked person. It would be a big plus for her. Obama is blowing in the wind. We will see. Thompson is my choice. Thanx.
If this is our best we have to offer to the tax payers of this great country, we are in deep sh--. It's all in the money game, and Hillery and Bill know exactly how it's played. If you think Bush feathered his nest, and had open borders for Mexico's druggies. You better tighten up your seat belt, we're in for a bad ride. I don't even want to think about Obama Sadam inside the oval office, so let's just vote for Glen Beck as a write-in.
yes ,hillary is intelligent worman .smart . but she has her faults.she pick her partner, if it was a perfect world we would,nt behere i would give her a vote.go lady go.
Romney, has the guts to call it "hillarycare", yet, the plan she's released is similar to the healthcare plan Massachusetts passed while Romney was govenor, and that he supposedly, wholeheartedly supported.  Now, he's bashing something similar at a national level?  And didn't he say early on that he'd bring the experience of the healthcare progress in MA to the whole country.  Talk about a flip flopper.  How any rational person could support this empty suit is beyond me.
Oddly, the only thinking man's candidates are  Kucinich, Paul, Clinton and to some extent, Richardson.  The fact that 50% of Americans don't waste much time on thinking is attested to by the last two presidential elections. So who are we likely to get this time? Probably Thompson.
Hillary gets my vote, my husbands vote, my 3 kids votes, and all of my friends.
We republicans would be scared of an intelligent woman Rufus, if you liberals would run an intelligent woman out there to begin with.

A woman who hires a convicted felon is not my idea of a smart woman....
It's just a tactic to energize the Republican base.  Hillary is the only candidate to unite Republicans, Democrats and Independents....in OPPOSITION to her.
Rick Burks of Kettering Ohio.  You are a total idiot.  Obviously you don't understand economics.  Putting Hillary Clinton in office would be a atom bomb to our economy and country.  If she gets elected, our country will never, ever recover from her brainless ideas.  When you raise taxes on the wealthy, what do you think that does to the economy?  Do you know any poor people creating jobs these days?  Of course you don't.  It is the rich people who create jobs and you better get used to that.  You tax the rich to hard, the economy will sour and go south.  Of course you are a democrat and you don't care.  As long as government is taking care of you.  Hillary Clinton is the Devil....
the republican debate consisted of war and more war, keep lowering taxes for us millionares,we love to scare the hell out of you and we hate Hillary.Nothing to vote for there except for Ron Paul---this guy makes too much sense for the neocons.Rudy acts like Bush---the little decider,my way or the highway.Mitt just too slick,a better actor than Mr Boring,Thompson....sigh
Jay while you may think the economy is BOOMING try being in the working poor.  My wife and I our now facing loss of health care thanks to Bush's VETO of SCHIP for our 2 kids aged 3 years and the seocnd is 6 months.  We do not qualify for any food stamp aid make 40 dollars to much a month yet with milk 3 buck plus a gallon and gas the same we actually have less to spend on food.  We have no health insurance on her or me at all since our jobs offer no medical benefits at all.  We struggle to pay our utlility bills every month and also put food on the table.  By the way we are BOTH college Grads.  The housing market here has imploded no one can even get a house sold regardless of how cheap they try to sell it no banks will give a mortage out do to the credit crunch.  Factories around here are laying off in droves Even trucking companies are not hiring we look over our shoulders everyday wondering if we are next to be fired at our jobs.  Now tell me Bush is doing a good job.
None of the Republicans want to face Hillary in the election she is just so much smarter than any of them.  They feel if they bash her enough she won't get the nomination, but hopefully this time around people are really looking at who they are electing and there is no one out thre more competent than Hillary Clinton.  We don't need anymore cowboys God help us.

A working poor american - Now tell me Bush is doing a good job.

Dislike to be pointed, but why is President Bush responsible for your choices?  You chose to have kids.  You chose to go college and earn degrees that apparently don't qualify you for jobs that provide health care as a benefit.  You chose to live in an area that is not doing the best economically at the moment.  The housing market seems to be important you - do you own and are trying to sell?  If you do sell, you'll find that when you re-buy, the lower market for housing will then be an advantage to you.  Have you considered moving to a location with jobs that better fit your degree?

See, here's the thing.  It's easy to blame others for your problems.  It's easy to expect that others are obligated to help you with your problems.  But at the end of the day, they are your problems, and your going to have to make the best of it.

we also did not choose to vote for Bush as president---supreme court first time, illegal vote in Ohio the second time.Did they ever come across those 800 votes that Bush recieved from a 300 voter registration?Hmmmm? And we cannot forget all thos thrown out ballots and the phone lines cut off from the campaign headquarters.
Jay S. wrote, "our nations debt has decreased in the last 2 years-by 35%"
That is not true Jay, our budget deficit has decreased but our national debt continues to increase. By the way, the budget deficit does not include the cost of the war.

Jay S. wrote, "our gdp is up 7% from last year"
That is not true Jay, you don't add the quarterly gdp increases to get the annual increase; they are already annualized.

Jay S. wrote, "the dow is over 14,000"
That is true. But, so what; it was around 12,000 when Bush took office. A 16% increase over 7 years is nothing to brag about.

Jay S. wrote, "the gov't has taken in over 2 trillion dollars in taxes in the last year (thanks to Bush's tax cuts) "
It has spent more than that. Whatever boom there is in the economy is because the Fed is flooding the world with dollars; our number one export. Cutting taxes does not bring in more tax dollars. The Laffer (Laugher) curve was discredited years ago.

Jay S. wrote, "Oh and our unemployment rate is at about 4.7%"
The unemployment rate excludes "discouraged workers." If they were included it would be far higher.

Jay S. wrote, "when are you libs gonna stop avoiding reality, our economy is booming, all the numbers are there."
Liberals and the rest of us aren't avoiding reality, we leave that to you conservatives.

Jay S. wrote, "Congress approval rating is hovering around 11%"
Almost half of the Congress is Republican. Do you think that has something to do with it?
Only dumb people think Hillary is smart.
I don't think you can argue with the fact that the unemployment rate is 4.7%,but what are the quality of thoes jobs that have been created.Someone should take a survey of actual overall income gains,if there is any.If one person gets downsized who was making 50,000 a year and new jobs are created at 12,000 a year, sure you see an increase of three jobs. This president loves to play games with stats, and he's got a lot of bal-s to veto anything becouse its to expensive his war is costing us about 720,000,000 a day for nothing except pain and death.I'm a regestered Dem.but I have alwas voted for the best candidate,in fact the union I belong to has helped more than one Rep.to get elected.Rep. are jumping on the band wagon becouse of the worse than poor prefomance of this Congress, but remember you had a Rep.Pres. and Congress for 4 years what did you do.I was hoping for more from Congress also but they are very disapointing.Enough about Move On.org. and Russ Limpdi-k and do something.
Quick comment to Anne from Detroit. This health care problem we have in this country was one of this Presidents campain promisses, but every year there is 10% less of us that have health care.
So much for the electability argument - New Quinnipiac poll released today shows Hillary leading Rudy in key swing states of FL, OH and PA!!  Not to mention continuing to dominate Obama and Edwards in the Dem primary.

Get ready for some lame response from Jerry, Sierra, Ron or one of the other haters on this site. When you can't argue on the facts, you have to resort to lies, fantasty, etc.
Anne Roberts, spoken like a true Republican, completely heartless.  They should change the name of the party to the Selfish Party.  I am part of the middle class and I went to college for something that paid the bills rather than what I would like to do.  But that doesn't mean that I don't have compassion for my fellow Americans and yes sometimes the governance is to blame for the citizen's problems.  For example, this government has not equiped it's citizens for the effects of Globalization, even as it changed policies to allow it. To be honest, the Clinton's are as much to blame in this regard as the current administration.  Those record profits on Wall Street come at the expense of America's working poor.  Someone in our country needs to do the service jobs and keep things running.  If the free market won't pay enough for them to make a decent living, the government needs to make up the difference.

Don't belittle people that you know nothing about.  There may be extenuating reasons why people suffer from poverty that are outside their control.  Maybe you can't move somewhere more prosperous because of an ailing parent.  You never know what's behind a situation.  I found your comments completely UGLY.
Peter from Pittsburgh, you just don't get it do you? Congress is led now by the Democrats.  They were elected to the majority on an anti-war platform.  They were expected by their supporters to end the war.  They have failed miserably.  The Democrats (former) supporters are very disappointed.

The economy is as good now as it was back in the day of Clinton.  It may even be better in that it looks like it is sustainable and can handle the rocky patches.  It will take more then one major problem, currently the housing market, to bring the US into recession.

The unemployment rate is measured today the same way it was measured 10 years ago.  The rate is the rate, and it is very low.

Cutting taxes does bring in more tax dollars.  It has been shown to be true again and again.
Dan from Peoria wrote, "When you raise taxes on the wealthy, what do you think that does to the economy?  Do you know any poor people creating jobs these days?  Of course you don't.  It is the rich people who create jobs and you better get used to that.  You tax the rich to hard, the economy will sour and go south."

In the fifties and sixties to top income tax rate was around 80%. According to your argument no new jobs were created in those decades. Similarly by your argument, since the Reagan years when the top income tax rate was more than halved all of us have been chased by head-hunters to accept the trillions of new jobs that have been created. Your argument is not valid; get over it.
Jules Peppers wrote, "Cutting taxes does bring in more tax dollars.  It has been shown to be true again and again."

OK Jules, cut the tax rate to zero. According to your "theory" the tax dollars coming in should be huge. In the real world no tax dollars would come in; zero taxes - zero tax dollars. In fact, Laffer's theory has NOT been proved again and again. The reason there is any kind of economic "boom" is because the Fed has been flooding the world with dollars. Cutting taxes only produces huge budget deficits. That's what happenned with Reagan and what has happenned with Bush. Get your mind off of the wallet candy and come back to the real world.
Jules Peppers also wrote, "Peter from Pittsburgh, you just don't get it do you?"

What am I not getting Jules? Jay S. claims that the GDP has increased by 7% over last year. That is not true. How am I not getting that? Jay S. also claimed that our national debt decreased by over 30%. That is not true. How am I not getting that? Show me the published figures that support Jay's claims. If I'm wrong I'm big enough to admit it. But, I'm not wrong here Jules; those figures don't exist. Come back to the real world.
Peter from Pits says: OK Jules, cut the tax rate to zero.

Okay, now you just identified yourself as a complete moron.  What are you 12, 13?  15 tops?

You're right Peter, tax people at 80%, and see where that gets you.

I graduated top ofmy class in Information Technology all my jobs are going to people with H1B visa's because they will do them for 50% less and those are the ones that are being kept in the country the rest are being sent overseas to India.  The only jobs around here that we can find are SERVICE INDUSRTY JOBS LIKE FAST FOOD.  The reason we are not leaving the area is simple called eldery parents that need help since their pension plans were gutted by HEARTLESS CORPARATIONS AND THEY NEED HELP.  Try being told you have health care when you retire then the company files bankraupcy first thing they dump is the reitires benefits.  Luckily their pensions are still safe.  My wife and I can afford our mortage luckily since it is not an ARM and has a low rate but it still sucks to see houses twice as large going for what we paid and we know we could not sell ours and move into one.  I have 2 cousins that are not even looking for work at all they are not even considered on the unemployment figures if all the unemployed were the real umeployment rate in the country is around 9%.
