Rudy tells Romney to admit mistake

From NBC/NJ's Matthew Berger
GREENVILLE, SC -- When pressed about Romney's comments on consulting lawyers before striking Iran, Giuliani stammered for a second and then responded.

"The honest truth? Mitt made a mistake," he said. "It's probably one of those moments in a debate. We all probably had them or gonna have them. A 'whoops'"

Giuliani continued, "I think Mitt should probably admit he made a mistake... You consult with the lawyers beforehand, not when there is an imminent threat.

"As far as I'm concerned, everybody makes mistakes. I make them, other people make them. The most important thing is not do you make mistakes, God knows I've made them and I've said things wrong.

"He knows he made a mistake, and if he just admits it, we can all move on."

*** Update *** Romney spokesman Kevin Madden responds, "Governor Romney offered a very direct answer to the question about taking action towards a threat from Iran. He stated very clearly that taking action to protect the American people is a president’s paramount concern."

What is Rudy's gameplan?  I agree with Rudy on this one, but why does he want to help out his opponent?  Hmmmm, something I'm not seeing . . .  Because Rudy would know how something about mistakes.
Romney admit a mistake?

Like admitting his mistakes as gov. of Massachusetts?

I won't wait for it.

This man is going to be a god, and wears his underwear to protect him from attacks. Why would he ever admit he was wrong?

Like, during Romney's term:

Massachusetts was ONLY STATE TO POST NO GAIN IN EMPLOYEED RESIDENTS.

222,000 MORE RESIDENTS MOVED OUT OF "HIS" STATE THAN MOVED IN! Only the number OUT-migrating kept MA's unemployment numbers down.

MEDIAN HOME PRICE ROSE 95%! (40% for the nation).

MA was 3RD LOWEST IN CREATION OF NEW JOBS, WOULD'VE BEEN 2ND EXCEPT KATRINA DEVASTATED LOUISIANA (even southern governors, catching up with global market, are bringing in new jobs to their states!)

Romney hasn't admitted any MISTAKE in allowing his office as gov. to fund lessons in gay/lesbian sex practices in schools, to children as yound as Kindergarten, WITHOUT PARENTAL CONSENT OR NOTIFICATION.To allow his office to fund "dances" where kids as young as 12 could meet up with 22 yr. olds who are gay/lesbian/bi-sexual/transgender. Romney ADMITS NO MISTAKE allowing his investments to fund embryonic stemcell research. Romney admits NO MISTAKE NOT using his influence to even try to get porn taken off tv.s in Family Hotels.

Romney doesn't think it a mistake to FORCE BUY OUTS OF AMERICAN COMPANIES, FORCING THOUSANDS OF AMERICANS TO LOSE THEIR JOBS OR TAKE CUTS IN PAY TO KEEP THEIR JOBS AFTER FORCED BUY OUTS. ROMNEY MADE HIS MILLIONS! HE HOLDS HIS HEAD HIGH!

But if Christians/Jews/Muslims, and other religions believing in a judgement after life, are right, Romney will have no choice, then, but to admit his wrongs inflicted upon Americans, and American families as he gains wealth and power.

ROMNEY SEEMS TO HAVE NO REGRETS AS HE ASKS AMERICANS FOR OUR VOTES!

Bravo, Rudy!
This makes perfect sense in that Rudy knows this isn't about him, Romney, Thompson, or even Ron Paul. This is about keeping Clinton, Obama, Edwards, and Gore out of the White House. If Rudy is going to lose the nomination to Romney, he wants to make sure that Romney comes out of the primary as the strong candidate he is, not limping into the lions den because he misspoke. The same thing if Rudy wins the nomination, he wants Romney to be a strong VP candidate so that they have a strong ticket.
Excellent job of staying focused on the big pciture.
Nicholas - That way Rudy looks magnanimous (for Rudy anyway), and Romney looks incompetently stubborn.
wow, Rudy scores point for a good honorable response
er Ryan, no.
you are wrong.
There's more tap dancing among these Republican candidates than in a Broadway show.  And it's a lot less entertaining.
Want a BIG Rudy mistake and a deadly one? How about authorizing the Command and Control Center for NYC in the World Trade Center (yes, the same World Trade Center that had previously been attacked). Firefighters and police were in that building BECAUSE the command center was there. You mean the decision resulted in the death of some of our finest and bravest? YES.
Rudy is desperate. He sued the contract with america's presidential line item veto for his liberal party pals. He says the presidential line item veto is unconstitutional and he would appoint the most liberal  Justices, the ones that agreed with him.

Besides, Mitt was one of the only candidate to give a clear answer. Mitt answered in terms of the War Powers Act. The hypothetical did not say an imminent threat. Mitt did make clear he would act against any threat.

MR. MATTHEWS: Thank you.
Governor Romney, that raises the question, if you were president of the United States, would you need to go to Congress to get authorization to take military action against Iran's nuclear facilities?

MR. ROMNEY: You sit down with your attorneys and tell you what you have to do, but obviously, the president of the United States has to do what's in the best interest of the United States to protect us against a potential threat. The president did that as he was planning on moving into Iraq and received the authorization of Congress.
A good thief recognizes another good thief - a good liar does too.
All of you seem rather simple minded:
1. Even if we are attacked there is no shame in a leader seeking competent advice. It can be obtained quickly and need not appear as a weakness.

2. Mick seems to think that you can have a great exodus of a state and an increasing demand for housing, which is what drives up the median house price. Not a governmental effect -- remember the FREE market.

3. Mick also seems to think that a Christian Taliban would be the preferred form of government. The leaders should decide which movies are shown in Hotels. Perhaps women should also wear the burka.

4. Mick also seems to embrace socialism and not capitalism. In a competitive economy some people get rich, some don't; some even lose their jobs. Move to Russia or North Korea if you want a job for life.

5. Rudy wasn't trying to help Mitt. He was trying to highlight a specious "error" to improve his own standing.

If you can't stand competition, fluxing home prices, and want the government to take care of you from cradle to grave, you should probably vote Taliban-Socialist.

Especially since we know that Mitt won't be fessing up to the mistake even though Rudy just threw him a bone.  Nice work, Giuliani.
Mitt Romney on Lawyers and Use of Military Force
October 12, 2007; Page A15
I'm disappointed The Wall Street Journal got it wrong in yesterday's editorial "Send In the Attorneys?" The question I was asked at the Republican debate in Michigan was not when I would use military force, but rather when congressional approval would be required. What I said in response, and have said since, is that a president must act to protect the American people. As to what involvement Congress may have, that's a matter for legal consideration.

If there is any confusion, let me be very clear: As president I would not shrink from the use of military force when grave threats confront America. At the same time, when time and circumstances permit, I would indeed seek the involvement of Congress as required by law and the Constitution.

wow you guys suck
When people like Rudy or "w" says or does something out of character I hide my wallet, because he is up to something. Maybe he is trying for a VP nod just in case
Romney wins the nomination.
Two peas in a pod! The pot calling the kettle black!
Two lying, scheming, repukes at each others throats.  The good news? None!
They're both useless.  Mitt is in favor of whatever gets him elected to whatever position he is running for at the time.  If his pollsters found out that 60% of Americans wanted him to change his name, he would do it.

Simply put, Rudy is a fascist, and his Orwellian double-speak, such as "Freedom is Authority" is the last thing that this country needs anywhere in its government.
"....."The honest truth? Mitt made a mistake," he said. "It's probably one of those moments in a debate. We all probably had them or gonna have them. A 'whoops'"....."

Now, wait a minute!
Giulliani talks with that schoolgirl lisp. He wouldn't have said "woops."
It would have been more like, "woopttthhhhhh."

Both of these guys are the two biggest mistakes in politics.
what president hasn't consulted legal counsel before taking ANY sort of action that has LEGAL restrainsts and consequences.  everyone that thought Mitt made a mistake is a moron, including Rudy.  aparently the office of the attorney general is simply there for craps and laughs--which, for softball host mathews infor, ation, was consulted thoroughly during the Cuban Missle Crisis as the Legality of a US "Quarantine" of Cuba was considered, since a BLOCKADE is an act of war under international law/treaty/definition.  Language is everything. no wonder the socialist have a shot at this election...95% of everyone out there is a poorly educated retard by choice
These guys bend more than a yoga instructor trying to be all things to the different conservatives who make up the party. They will not be as appealing to the other voters they need in the general election. Mitt seems to suggest pre-emtive strike, Rudy wants to be a hero on a pedestal. None of the Rebumplikans running will receive the independant votes they need to win. Where are their ideas, where is the thinking on Iraq, Tax cuts ruined the economy under Raygun and Bush so why is that the jist of their economic plans, they are panderers with out plans, promisers without promise. The more they gyrate to appease, the more they look like Bush and company. We all know how most americans feel about that team, THEY SUCK! Change is in the wind because change in on the minds of the largest block of americans. Dead head Fred is the worst, he is acting the part of Ronnie/George, how pathetic. The rebumplikans deserve to be in the political wilderness for another forty years. Hoorah for democracy, it will overcome ideology in favor of the rule of law. We need a president to rectify the situations Bush/Cheney have put our country in, no one wants another four years of an IMPERIAL PRESIDENT!
You freaking Democrats should grow a Y chromosomes and stop being such a pussy. Wahhh, Wahhh. Unfair.
but again, look who your heroes are, ALGORE, Hillary.
ROFLOL
Even the editors of this page look as though their wives have more muscles than them.
Notted you are so lame!  Cry out against men for what you perceive is womanly? They should be so lucky to have the the most courage and empathy as your mother must posses.
Your muscles have overgrown your freaking little brain.

Mayor Rudy Giuliani is the last candidate who should tell a rival candidate to admit a mistake.

Also, while I have often admitted being no fan or potential vote for Mayor Rudy Giuliani, I've also given him credit on the line-item veto issue.
The comment about attorneys was a quick aside before the main point about ensuring security. This is such a non-issue I'm surprised at how much play it's getting. Lawyer bashing aside, don't you WANT a president to ensure that actions taken reinforce the rule of law? I want a president to make sure that s/he goes to Congress if the law and circumstances require it. Better recognition of this balance would probably have helped us avoid the problems we're in today. I'd rather that the candidates cut the sideshow and sell themselves on their own ideas.
