John Lewis endorses Clinton

Posted: Friday, October 12, 2007 10:57 AM by Mark Murray

From NBC's Mark Murray

Well, the Obama campaign might be winning the spin war over Clinton's remarks on Iran yesterday, but the Clinton camp picks up a key endorsement from civil-rights leader Rep. John Lewis (D). In a statement posted on the Clinton campaign's Web site, Lewis says, “I have looked at all the candidates, and I believe that Hillary Clinton is the best prepared to lead this country at a time when we are in desperate need of strong leadership. She will restore a greater sense of community in America, and reclaim our standing in the world.”

That Lewis would endorse Clinton over Obama -- the first African-American with a legitimate chance of winning the Dem nomination -- is a blow to the Illinois senator's campaign.

Clinton belong to moses generation and i am sure John Lewis belong to that circle as well. The cirlce of Venom Jordan political associates. They've done their part, and it is time for Joshua generation to lead American into the promise land.

My bible tells me about  Moses work in Egypt but the work was finished by Joshua. He lead the isrealite into the promise land.

I'll suggest we borrow the same history and use it today. Obama is ready to lead my generation into promise land. I appreciate what John Lewis' generation did, but i trust Obama to finish their work. It is time to turn the page. I am ready for a new era of leadership.

I know John Lewis generation like the power so much  but the time is now for Barack Obama generation to lead us into the new era of America. A new dawn of leadership is what we want in this nation. It is time to turn the page.

To achieve the
not one person in this country has yet voted for a candidate and we're all to simply crown HRC because some poll says she's our leader.  give me a break.  we'll make up our own minds, not blindly follow the endorsement of others or the mythical poll numbers.
crystal, larry and company.

Do you really need to be told that Obamas paternal Grandparents aren't Americans? Neither was his dad?
he was raised in an all white family, saw his father only out of the country.
He's not the US defination of African American... he has no ties to that community as a child or a teen.

Many of you don't seem to have any idea, or care WHO John Lewis is. Those who are beneficiaries of Mr. Lewis' efforts have the most to be ashamed of.
Because someone has to do it;

Biography of John Lewis

Ok I counted to 10 first because we had a tentative truce.

How dare you preach to me or any other black person about the civil rights movement or what benefits were derived from it.  If he were not supporting that overweight liar you would not give a flying banana who John Lewis was or what he did.

So don't be a Johnny come lately to the "MOVEMENT" and pretend to educate me or any other black person on who he is.  I respect Lewis and his struggles but supporting Hillary does nothing to increase his long admirable record and for many who are to young to know about it MY reduce it...that was his call, I respect that.

Go to the Iraq  /Iran site and support HER she needs it but don't come here preaching civil rights education.  You are out of your element.  How do I know you are not Black...easy?
We get it Tuck,

Obama is an American, period. Who cares if is great grand parents are irish? So what? Obama is black american . Any thing else.
So Tuck, what a big deal?

Obama is an American who tries to run for US President election. I don't think he is running for African American Union election.
Independent at large.....you need to learn how to spell or use spell check!
if we cannot agree with african american,-------we should agree we are the ugly americans-------we prove it every day---just read blogs and message boards we hate each other and out-ugly one another, day in and day out.Bush the great uniter of hate
Van: Who are you to tell AA what they should think? I'm AA and don't have a clue in hell as to who Lewis is. He is not from my district. All I will worry about is the representative from my district. It sounds as though you are the one with the demonizing with your comments about the republican party. We have some idiots just as bad or worse in the Democratic party. We have to get past all of this partisan BS. Bush is not running so he is not one to waste your breathe on, because he is going to do what anyone in his position would {Do just what the hell he wants to do}. All politicians when put in that position will do the same. Anyone want to bet on that????
Does this always have to be a black or white issue?  Who cares if Obama was "raised" by a white family?  Who cares if a "black" leader endorses Clinton? What matters is the mess that needs to be cleaned up today.  It's all about who can turn this country around and get us on the right path. We need to focus on the key points that will lead us to that person. Forget the Black/White thing.

Lyn-

Are you serious? I have every right to have an opinion about John Lewis and the civil rights movement. You are way off base here. I have every right to say that those who try to minimize or insult Lewis, simply because he endorsed Clinton (One person said that Lewis had, "no balls"),especially if they are members of the generation that has benefited from the movement's triumphs.

I'm sure that you are no bigot Lyn, but to imply that a person has to be black to have the right to an opinion on this matter is an affront to the many whites who rode those buses, attended those sit-ins, braved the dogs and the hoses standing shoulder to shoulder with their brothers and sisters of color.
I, Lyn am over 50 and I was ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE.

Most here don't reveal mush about themselves and that anonymity makes it easy to be cruel and insensitive, but you are taking your support of your candidate over the line here.

You have no right to take one sentence in my attempt to educate some who showed absolute disrespect for an American hero, calling him a coward and irrelevant, and you have no business trashing one of MY HEROES.

Please, if you ever want a civil dialog with me again, understand how wrong you are and how your implication is wrong.

Van
I guess this means that we "All" African Americans have to get in lockstep and vote blindly because a Civil Rights giant is endorsing her. AA vote with what I call a "blinded vengeance". We think in order to get back at the man, we have to vote Democrat. I have news for ya "The Democrats hasn't done jack to further promote the plight of the black man no more than the republicans." We get so caught up in the theatrics and motivational speeches that Democrats give that we forget to think before we vote. You have to examine everything, not just a hatred for Bush "most of you will hate the next president too". They get you focused on Bush and off of the real issues. If they can build up your hatred of Bush, then they can slide right through with that automatic vote.ie" Anybody but Bush" slogans etc. In order to be President, you need executive experience, ie Governor, etc. You can say what you want about Bush, but he is smarter than you or I, He won twice, irregardless of what you think, he did it however he had to. ALL politicians will do whatever it takes. Lastly blackfolk "Think before you vote" If you want to vote with the Republicans, do it. IT IS YOUR RIGHT to disagree with the established rule.
VAN-
"This idiocy that great civil rights leaders like John Lewis are not to be considered because of their age is nothing more than shameful.  You are idiots, pure and simple.  Stop demonizing your allies and focus on the real enemy, the sociopaths of the republican party!"

You are the idiot because I didn't say his age was the issue...Don't talk about the issue of the black community if you don't have to deal with it...John Lewis is out of touch with the issue that surround the CURRENT black YOUTH of America...THAT IS ASHAME...talk what you know...
Hillary continue's to Flip Flop her stances- so that makes her a so call "enemy"
I may be an idoit because I don't believe there is an enemy, Republican or Democrat, just people who are out of touch...just like you...

So all idiot's join me and let's support the leaders that stand behind their statements because they mean them...not because they sound good and may help get them elected...Van I wish you, Hill and Mr. Lewis, could vist some of the high schools that I work with and see the generation that John Lewis has forgot about!

Maybe you should run at least you have not flip flop like you goddess...

COME TO THE HOOD: DON'T SEND US POLLS AND MEDIA CLIPS
WE RISK OUR LIVES EVERYDAY TRYING TO MAKE A BETTER LIFE FOR THESE FORGOTTEN CHILDREN...
SEND MONEY TO THE KATRINA RELIEF FUND OR JENA 6...

OUR TROOP RISK THEIR LIVES...THEY DON"T NEED A FLIP FLOP LEADER CHANGING HER MIND LIKE THE WIND
Van,

Please.  This is not about civil rights.  This is about calling in favors.  Read the lastest update.  he changed his mind after he got a call from Bill.  He is not sincere about what he said.  I love Bill--Hillary is not Bill.
Tuck-

You like Van don't have a clue about the black race...When people see him they see his color...all white people are not decendants of the same culture but society sees us by our skin color...you are not living in reality if you can't grasp that Reality...

Van-
Have you ask Hillary to change you into a black man so you can talk about this subject with since...you my friend is the idoit...easy to call people name
Van, get real, you are only promoting that fact because you're for hillary. We get  it! We're you down there supporting the Jena-6, I seriously doudt it because you're not payed to be there, your payed to be here 24-7 spouting the greatness of hillary. Here's some news for ya, Most of America ain't buying what she's selling. With so many post ( mostly negative) about her Hypocrisy ( Bush-Lite)is it any wonder you're the only one brave enough to try & spin the obvious, She's the Inexperienced one, not Barrack.
You have no right to take one sentence in my attempt to educate some who showed absolute disrespect for an American hero, calling him a coward and irrelevant, and you have no business trashing one of MY HEROES.

Van

Lyn

Van please point out where I trashed Mr. Lewis.
Judge and comment upon John Lewis (including his endorsement of Hillary Clinton) not by the color or his skin, but by the content of his character.

His decision to endorse Clinton is a practical one. All Americans, regardless of race or background, will be much better off with a capable, forward looking President to undo the tragic results of the Bush legacy.

No politician is perfect, neither is any voter. What is critical is one's ability to learn and move on. John Lewis has stood on principle for his entire adult life and is an fine example of a politician who learns and moves on.
I am disappointed in you Lyn. perhaps I expected more than I should have, but that was one lame response. Only in this universe would I be getting this kind of flak for DEFENDING a hero of the civil rights movement. I didn't come late to the movement, I was a part of it. Thanks for acknowledging that fact.

You say you didn't trash Mr.Lewis and I'll take you at your word, but you trashed me and attacked my right to comment, and your response is far from satisfactory.

I didn't, "lecture", anyone by posting Mr Lewis' bio, but it is obvious that a lecture wouldn't hurt some.

Van
Vanreuter gets off quoting Hillary's unscientific poll numbers.  Vanreuter is the biggest f***ing loser on this blog.  How dare he lecture people on the AA struggle for the sake of political expediency.  Hill and Bill give two sh**s about the AA community and only look at it as commodity akin to Republicans and the evangelical community.  All I've gotta say to Van is: F*CK YOU!!!

Vanreuter is an idiot.  He is Howard Wolfson's gimp.
The poor Black sector of America is beaten down By the Washington Paper Hanging machine, It is running scared as the next President must give more to the welfare system for thei vote!! Do you think this ""ONE"" fat cat ""Has the voice of the total black Vote ??

Look at reality, Nothing is free! Washington Paper Hangers use this racial card every election, yet the blue collar and those who struggle each day are just a myth to Washington Paper Hangers! Clintons Bond is nothing more than a election ploy to serve the false impression.

So Vote Clinton, You will get $5000.00 for every kid you pump out and """" 18 """"" YEARS TO FEED , CLOTH , EDUCATE  THIS CHILD """ ALL FOR $ 5000.00 BIG ONE'S !!!!!  """THIS HAS TO BE THE MOST LUNATIC SELF SERVING AGENDA EVER PROMISED BY ANY PERSON SEEKING THE OFFICE AS PRESIDENT OF THIS COUNTRY!

VOTE FOR A LUNATIC  ""CLINTON"" !!!

P.S. While you eat at the Golden Arches,,""She dines on Steake and Lobster!!!
It just goes to show how many political people the Clintons have in their back pocket. You wouldn't believe the stuff he has accumulated on so many people and the threats he poses to so many others. They are basically afraid of their lives.
Did this get lost in the archives? January 21, 1998, Vernon Jordan, a high-powered Washington lawyer and longtime friend of Clinton, said Lewinsky told him she did not have a sexual relationship with Clinton.

Jordan also flatly denied suggesting that Lewinsky lie about her relationship with the president. "I want to say absolutely and unequivocally that Ms. Lewinsky told me in no uncertain terms that she did not have a sexual relationship with the president. At no time did I ever say, suggest or intimate to her that she should lie," Jordan said in a statement to reporters.
