More Edwards local SEIU endorsements

Posted: Monday, October 15, 2007 3:57 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC/NJ’s Tricia Miller
In addition to the local Iowa SEIU, nine other local chapters will endorse Edwards, including California, which has more than 600,000-members, at an event in Iowa City later today, according to Democratic sources with knowledge of the endorsements. The others will be Washington (103,000 members), Michigan (70,000 members), Idaho (400 members), Montana (500 members), Minnesota (28,000 members), Ohio (22,000 members), West Virginia (4,000 members) and Oregon (46,000 members)

Obama was endorsed by the Illinois and Indiana chapters, but those groups, unlike the ones supporting Edwards, cannot help organize for a candidate in a state outsider of their own.

Let's congratulate Senator Edwards and his supporters for landing the endorsements he worked very hard and long to earn.

Van
For all the talk of a Hillary Hurricane next year, there sure are a lot of union people that are not backing her......

Could it be her ties to Wal-Mart?
Her anti-union people on her staff?????
Congratulations  John
Actually, your last statement is wrong.  State locals cannot help a candidate in another state in which their local is endorsing another candidate.  For example, the Illinois local is not allowed to go to Iowa to help Obama, but the all the states that endorsed Edwards can help him there since he has their endorsement.
Run Johnny run! Best candidate for working folks and the middle class, bar none. Let's get it done!

May be all these unions will endorse Obama after Iowa primary and Johnny was out.
Go Johnny Go!!  Candidates advocating for the middle class and Labor don't garner as much positive attention from the anti-union corporate media as Corporate Democrats (ahem) Obama and Hillary! - resulting in more donations for corporate candidates.
But the working people know who will represent them!
Now granted, I am a supporter of Sen. Obama, but from all of the reading and research I have done into John Edwards, I am still at a loss to fifugre out how he is such a champion of the middle class and poor.  Anyone who doesn't have a job but wants to run for president can show up on as many picket lines as he likes.  Did he pass any legislation in Congress that benefitted the middle class (if so, please tell me because I seriously don't know)?  Seems like a situation where if he keeps saying enough times that he is the champion of the middle class, people will start believing it.  What's to say Sen. Obama wouldn't do as well of a job for the middle class?
Hearty Congratulations, John.You deserve it.

PS: Van congratulates John Edwards because he knows that JE is not going to get nomination for democrats. What about HRC, Van? Why no SEIU Chapter endorsement for "NATIONAL" front runner?
Michael, NYC: '... Michael,  I  think John Edwards voted against NAFTA and WTO. He has been a consistent voice against CAFTA
'Free Trade' is another failed socila policy of the '90's. It helped destroy unions (why pay union wages if you can move your factory to Mexico/China?)
NAFTA/WTO is also destroying manufacturing in America. CAFTA has provisions that allow corporations to undermine our environmental laws.
Obama is my first choice too (with Edwards a strong second), but Edwards is MUCH stronger on these kitchen table issues.
Congratulations to SEIU for standing for principles !
If unions don't support the politicians who support them, CONSISTENTLY, unions will fade.

Thank you, SEIU !!
The corporate donors will need to be paid back. We have seen what this means ,when such as Bush  and Hillary sell their souls.Corruption of Democracy by special intrests. Go John we will support you. There are many dissatified Non union   AND middle class people too!
Frontrunner is corporate mediaspeak for loserrrrrr!   No working American in their right mind is going to vote for the favorite nominee of the neocons.  Go Johnny Goooooooo!  Lets not forget today's endorsement by the Friends of the Earth Action too!
As an Obama supporter I am glad for Edwards.  he has worked very hard for these endorsements and he deserves them.
I am personally glad Obama got Illinois and Indiana but, I also am glad for Edwards.
Yahoo - Great news for John Edwards.  It is really a sham that the MSN shows polling for Clinton and Obama against each other and not with John Edwards who now in most polls, is beating both of them as well as all the Republicans!  We need to keep getting the word out that John Edwards is in this race to win - no matter how hard the corporate giants try to ignore or tear him down.  Go, we the people!
Edwards did not author any legislation championing working people during his time in the Senate.  He has taken advantage of the disenfranchisement of working people created by this administration, and that's it.  It's hard to understand why so many people are listening to his latest rhetoric and not paying attention to his actions when he was actually in political life.
What exactly is an SEIU again?
Hooray for Edwards--he came from humble roots, worked in the mills in the summer with his dad, and never forgot where he came from.  He has tirelessly fought corporate abuse on behalf of middle class and poor people as an attorney, and has walked on hundreds of picket lines in support of workers' rights.  He also worked hard to help secure minimum wage increases in six states...He has always had a passion for the underdog and will fight for us "little guys" once he's in the White House.
congradulations John.  You deserve it.  You have my support.

Mary
congradulations John.  You deserve it.  You have my support.

Mary
Who said nice guys finnish last, well Leo is wrong, Edward's is a nice guy and he is the only one that will finish on top, good bye Hillary.
Sierra (SF) -- NAFTA went into effect Jan 1, 1994.  The WTO replaced the GATT in 1995.  Mr. Edwards may well have opposed these measures as a private citizen, but he did not vote against them, because he was not in Congress until 1998.
Diane, that is a very nice thing you aknowledged! Thank you.

I am supporting Edwards and am happy of those endorsements and the Friends of the Earth endorsement.
Edwards is an attorney, a politician. He can pay $400.00 for a hair cut. But he seems to stump from his gutt. Like he really means what he is saying. He is one of the candidates who doesn't seem to grind out some memorized speeches with well-practiced smiles and laughter plugged in for tempo, watching the clock to get the flock out of there. The facts he has memorized are generally facts we can use, evaluating him, not just a bunch of hot air and empty promises.

I get the impression Edwards could handle the pressure of being war-time president and communicating with foreign dignitaries and enemies, but can he handle this stress along with his wife's illness? I just feel for the man. He demands a certain amount of respect. He has the fortitude to take on the world and cancer, too. His Partner in life is a hero, putting our nation-in-her-husband's-hands ahead of her own serious needs, and doing it with grace.

I look forward to the day elections are won on principle, not bottom line. I know--in my dreams. But I can dream. I do remember, when I was a kid, when candidates first began to appear in our living rooms and dens in black and white. We got to hear a lot of what candidates had to say, NOT a lot of what media said they said...ad nauseam.

I haven't found a lot of skeletons, but if they're there, someone will find them. I'm betting it wouldn't be like tip-toeing around Romney either. The media would scramble Edwards.

Edwards seems to think things out and face issues at a steady pace. That's kindda nice after the knee-jerk leadership we've had from all angles with this presidency.
Thank God, maybe America will start to take notice that John Edwards should be our next President, lets hope and pray!!!!

GO EDWARDS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congatulations John,  I so admire you and your wife.  This is really good news for you and I hope all the
additional supporters will really make a difference.
Let's not forget that Edwards has already dealt with the republican smear machine in the 2004 election - and what doesn't kill ya' can only make you stronger!!  I think the republicans would be pretty hard-pressed trying to put John Edwards through their political meat grinder!  John Edwards has proven time and time again that he is for the working class.  No one has shown that more than John Edwards.   He has earned and deserves the support and endorsements of all the hard working people in this country.  He is the only candidate who truly supports the backbone of America...Congratulations John Edwards - I am proud to support you...again.
Need help! I am a first time voter just turned 18...I wanted John Edwards to be nominated, but I keep reading about how everyone else has raised so much more money. I don't know as much about Politics as I guess I should, but how does how much money a candidate raise from their friends and resources actually make them a good candidate for President? I would think their views, drive for where they want to take the USA would be the most important thing to consider.  My sister says I am naive and don't know how things work...can someone here explain it to me?
Somebody 'splain it to me - why is the big story - besides that Edwards dominates among activists who know primary politics - not that HRC:  the "inevitable" the  "frontrunner" - yada yada - despite the most vigorous efforts by her and her campaign - was shut out - to date a complete zero in getting endorsements she vigorously courted.

This is as close to a real election as we get - not the unctuous posturing of the punditburo - but honest to gosh real life - can it be? say it ain't so - voters.  In any result depending on voters HRC barely registers.  Can you contemplate that all this HRC talk is a Ptemkin village.?
Dear 1st x voter:
You asked why fundraising is so important to a candidate's chances, specifically to John Edwards.  It's important because the news media make it important, ranking the candidates by their war chests. As Jimmy Carter pointed out last week, hoever, he won the Democratic nomination in 76 even though he did not raise the most money; He did it by using public financing.

Of course,  it's important to have the funds to campaign effectively, but more money doesn't necessarily mean more or better campaigning or outreach.

thus, the question is not whether Edwards has more money than Clinton or Obama, but whether he has enough money to campaign effectively - - that is, to show voters that his policies are more progressive and that he has a better chance of beating the eventual Republican nominee.  And the key is volunteers like you, who will get out the word and the vote for Edwards.

go get 'em,
first time voter,

Vote your convictions, NOT media's supercandidate/s. Ignore the media-hype and turn off the political commercials feeding the media while children starve.
CLDYE & JAYE,

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

I try to convince everyone I know that John Edwards should be our next president, so I will graciously take your advice.
About time John Edwards got the recognition he deserves.  I was an Edwards delegate to the Washington State Convention in 2004 and will be again if I can get elected.  Now if the media would start reporting the real news instead of trying to make the news work for them...
