NBC News has learned that Jeri Thompson, wife of republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson, is canceling the first public event where she was to appear on her own. Jeri Thompson had previously agreed to participate in a high-profile forum featuring spouses of presidential hopefuls from both political parties. The event, Tuesday Oct 23rd in Long Beach, Calif., will be moderated by California First Lady Maria Shriver to discuss the balance of politics and family as part of her annual Women's Conference.

Sources close to the 41-year-old mother of two small children say, "We regret that we cannot be there" and stressed, "We were apologetic." The reason cited for the cancellation is "scheduling." Jeri Thompson is scheduled to make her first solo trip campaigning as a surrogate for her husband next week.  She is also set to deliver a speech at the Jewish Coalition forum tomorrow with no press coverage.

Organizers of the Shriver event say they "heard rumblings yesterday" about a possible cancellation and expressed hope that "it's salvageable."  Planners called it a "brain scratcher" and noted that media kits and materials for the event already printed have Jeri Thompson listed as a participant.

It runs in the family!

LOVE IT.

Ugh what losers.
Is Billary Clinton going to be there as well
A social climbing, gold digger married to a lazy old fart doesn't want to be exposed as such.  A "scheduling problem"?  What woulda thunk it?  When the going gets tough, the Fred campaign comes up with excuses.
Oh my, wife and hubby are just toooo busy for campaigning huh?
I think they meant, 'Apoplectic', not 'Apologetic'. (Fred told her she wouldn't have to do junk like that.)
You don't go, girl.
yes, the republican president and his republican party are full of regrets for their absence in leadership come this winter the american public will either be looking for water or finding ways to heat their homes one way or another the piper
"I want to be Queen, just don't want to work for it."
Well she should go. Jeri's the one who's pushing ol' Fred to make a run for it, and also has turned his campaign staff upside down- constantly micromanaging. She reminds me of a younger Nancy Reagan.
I don't know why I bothered to read these blogs at all this am...how I would hate to have to claim any of the above bloggers as members of my family/bad enough they are apparently citizens of my country! They haven't a clue to how the real world lives/and,don't take in to consideration that children 1 and 4 are pretty much a full time job. This only proves what she says:  her family/children are very important...she is not an influence on her husband as many think....no where like the other spouses are.....this group of bloggers need to do a little reading up on issues and candidates, if they are able to!
Can't she at least come up w/ a better excuse, like maybe one of the kids has a cold or a test or something?
I attended the meeting and Jeri was there. Very graceful and a very good representation of her husband.
