Texas governor endorses Rudy

Posted: Wednesday, October 17, 2007 10:06 AM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC’s Andy Merten
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Giuliani received the endorsement of Texas Gov. Rick Perry this morning here -- his first nod from a sitting governor. Perry cited the former mayor’s success in reducing crime and cutting spending during his tenure, in addition to his preparedness in dealing with terrorism, as reasons for supporting him.

But Perry began his remarks with a topic that isn’t always acknowledged as one of Rudy’s strengths -- illegal immigration. “There’s no such thing as homeland security without border security,” the governor said, asserting that Giuliani’s success fighting crime will equip him to reduce illegal border crossing as president.

Perry also used his brief remarks to get in a dig at Romney, poking fun at the former Massachusetts governor’s Iran gaffe at last week’s debate in Dearborn, Mich., in which he said he would consult attorneys before pursuing unilateral military action against Tehran. The next president “must be able to stare down criminal elements,” Perry said, “whether they’re trafficking drugs or planting roadside bombs -- without dialing up their lawyer first.”

And when asked whether his conservative views sync up with Giuliani’s more left-leaning social opinions, Perry echoed his presidential pick’s often-cited Reagan quote that “if you’re my 80 percent friend, you’re not my 20 percent enemy," with a bit more southern-folksy flare. Said Perry: “When I go to buy a pickup truck, if it has one option on it that I’m not fond of, it doesn’t mean I disregard that pickup truck.” He added that his main concern is that the next president nominates “strict constructionists” to the Supreme Court -- something he said he is assured Rudy will do.

Perry’s endorsement came before Giuliani spoke before the Club for Growth, at which the Texas governor -- who received a B rating from the Cato Institute in 2006 -- also introduced the mayor and told the crowd of about 100 of his endorsement. In Rudy’s remarks to the friendly audience, he stuck to the fiscal conservatism section of his stump speech, calling for reductions in spending, taxation, regulation and lawsuits, while slamming Democratic policies as the reason for economic stagnation.

But during the question-and-answer session, in which audience members could write down questions to be selected and read by a moderator, Giuliani was asked to compare his healthcare plan with “Romney-care.” He resisted criticizing his Republican opponent and instead targeted “Hillary-care,” saying that mandating coverage will immediately causes prices to rise.

“I don’t even think this is ideological, this is lack of experience,” Giuliani said of Democrats’ approach to health care.

Rick Perry is a complete moron so its no surprise he would endorse Rudy.
A good man Rick Perry, he has done well for the state of Texas.

ah yeah, okay.
Texas also gave us George DUMBYA' Bush....nuff' said.
"...“I don’t even think this is ideological, this is lack of experience,” Giuliani said of Democrats’ approach to health care."

What, are you kidding me?
And ah, what "experience" did Gigolo Rudy 'G' gain with healthcare as Mayor of NY.
Answer; NONE, NOTTA', ZIP, ZERO, GOOSE-EGGS, DONUTS......
The guy is a joke, sheeeeesh!

Do I hear dueling banjos?  Yes, it's the Texas boys on Rick Perry.
Texas is full of WHACKO INBREDS and Rick Perry is just another one of em.'
.....and Gigolo Rudy 'G' didn't reduce crime in New York City.
The Crime Bill of 1994, and Bill Clinton's COPS program did.
Obviously Rick Perry's mind is negatively being affected by the Texas heat.  He, and most middle america americans who did not have the unfortunate experience of living here in NYC with Rudey Rudey-lani as our mayor, need to be educated about what this guy was really about as of 9-10-01.  First, he did not clean up NYC as he claims...crime rates were already on the down turn when he first took office. Disney, not Guiliani, is the real reason why NYC is safer, as it bought up properties in Time Square and kicked out all the riff-raff.  Also, the economy was already on the up-turn and we all know that crime goes down when the economy is booming.  Also, contrary to what Jerry might say, Clinton's crime bill passed right after he took office, put thousands of extra cops back on the streets, i.e. beat cops.  It's a proven fact that when there is a greater visible police presence, crime goes down.  As for taxes, Rudy raised them...in fact, he fought his fellow republicans and democrats in Albany who voted away the NYC commuter income tax. For those who don't know, if you work in NYC but don't live there, you had to pay a non-resident income tax...thanks to the democractically controlled Assembly in NY and the reublican controlled stated senate, we got rid of that tax despite Rudy's support for the tax.  Also, despite the 1993 WTC boming, Rudy caved into politcal pressure from lobbiests who gave him money and placed the city's Office of Emergency Management in the Twin Towers even though it was a proven target for terrorists.  Then, despite being warned about the communication problems between the NYPD and FDNY, Rudy ignored the pleas for better radios that if provided to them, would've save more lives on 9-11.  And Rudy didn't save anyone on 9-11...all he did was come out of his hiding place after the smoke cleared and made a bunch of pretty speeches and then went to more Yankees games then time spent at ground zero.  The true saviors for NYC...the first responders and the current mayor, Bloomberg, and our representatives in Congress [Schumer, Hillary and the House Reps.] who fought for federal funding and aid for post 9-11 relief.  What did Rudy do? Earn millions making 9-11 speeches and falsely told everyone the air was safe in lower manhatten when it was poisonous.  Also, Rudy did not work well with others...he never sought consensus with the City Council. He responded with indignant arrogance when racially motivated killings of black people were committed by a number of cops. He is mean spirited and outright nasty.  Anyone supporting this guy for president after knowing these indisputable facts is simply a moron.
It is time for two quotes from Molly Ivins. She always referred to Perry as "Governor Good Hair" and she said, "Now will you listen to me when I tell not to elect anyone from Texas as President." The latter would apply to Vice President as well, which Perry thinks he is qualified for. It would be God's Gift to Democrats if he were the VP nominee.
Texas also gave us George Bush....nuff' said.

Yes sir, they did.  The Republicans ran their dumbest guy, and twice beat the Democrats smartest guys.  That tells you something.
Theres lies, theres damn lies...and then theres "Jerry-Speak"!
Texas also gave us George Bush....nuff' said.

Lynn Byner, Crawford Texas (Sent Wednesday, October 17, 2007 10:39 AM)....."

Yes that's right Lynn.....with a little help from 5 justices on the supreme court, and a few computer chips in Ohio.
By the way, how is it that the local paper down there endorsed John Kerry in '04'?
Hmmmm, kinda' tells you something doesn't it.
One last thing, can you give us any insight as to how the twins take their margaritas, and does DUMBYA really get nasty with his mouth when he's drunk?
Watch out! Media will be pointing fingers, exclaiming, Piling up on Romney!

A difference between Gigilo and Romneo: a vast amount of gg's garbage is out for anyone to see, Romneo likes to play hide and seek. Just keep peeling back the layers, the RealRomneo is in there somewhere.

goto http:www.massresistance.org and click on The Romney Deception, get a load of the realromneo.

Worse than calling in his lawyers, Romneo has Cofer Black and Pete Hoekstra lined up for advisors. Check 'em in Wikipedia.
Jerry, have you seen your 2000-dollar property tax reduction that governor zoolander Perry promised? I have not. Additionally, what about his plans to sell the interstate system to some Spanish company and turn the interstates into toll roads and his plan to build the Texas toll way trans corridor with same Spanish company so we can open the borders between Mexico and Canada. He has no respect for imminent domain and taxpayers of this state.  He is weak on immigration, weak on tax reform and strong on special interest groups that want to take private and public property and turn it into a profit for foreign companies. I can not think of one positive deed he has done to improve Texas.
Well said Lynn....
Sure j  your gov is super, just the kind of guy you like!
Texass: 50TH IN CHILD HEALTH CARE!

That is your "GOVENOR GOOD HAIR."

TEXASS:  NUMBER ONE in high school dropouts!!

TEXASS:  1st in domestic violence!!

1st in % of population with no health insurance!

Like I said you need a a DEMOCRAT, your state is a mess!!
Fortunately Pat, NY is not the only state voting in 08'. You can smear the man all you want, but you have to be nasty and downright onery to become POTUS. This is the very reason Obama is having trouble, his butt won't clown Hillary. I guarantee you if he would start dragging Hillary, he would go up in the polls. You think its a joke.....wait and see who will survive in the end.
Gov. Good Hair - one of Bush's blow buddies.  Good choice. Good man, if you like fascist puppets beholding to BushCo.
Looks like the GOP's big endorsers are bypassing ol' Fred. It must hurt when a governor of a Southern state chooses a former mayor of New York City. The race will narrow in a few months, coming down to a showdown between Giuliani and Romney. Giuliani is right when he claims that he is the best man to defeat Hillary Clinton, which may be another reason  why he's doing so well.

Thankfully Molly isn't around anymore spreading her Bulls**t.
J. Merle: Your speaking of the Houston Chronicle. That paper is the most liberal paper in Texas. It is local to the Houston area. It does not represent all of Texas. You said that like 1 newspaper speaks for the entire state. Stick to New York. Dont Mess with Texas....
Sure j  your gov is super, just the kind of guy you like!

So here we have it, the beginning of the end of the hope for a meaningful presidential election. We now get to choose between these two severely flawed New Yorkers. Ahh yes, just the right mix of sophistication and practicality.
Pat from Huntington, NY; Even the Rudy G. is a lying moron, the fix is in for him to become the nominee...and, once Clinton is slimed enough, the next President.  he'll be a Bush clone, and "the End of an Error" will not QUITE have come yet.
TEC: Go read on his accomplishments before you come on here spouting off about your home state. The way I grew up is "I can say whatever within my house but I dont let anyone outside the house say the same and we keep in house biz in house"

Another endorsement from the "Big Government" wing of the Republican party!!
Can anybody out there see any difference between Giuliani and Clinton? They are identical!!
No suprise there, they both work for Cintra to help build the TTC
Lynn, it just says there are alot of moronic, naive people in this country. We do learn, but it takes us years to figure things out. We all got W's number now, but you haven't yet.. the last 28%. WHO NOW are the last mindless brainwashed robots? Lynn, Jerry, Inthemiddle? YOU!!!!
somehow I knew that Rick Fairy would manage to be front and center behind Rudy.I guess thats okay since Taxus is the national leader in Healthcare for the poor, great nursing homes.education, low property taxes, low insurance,no illegal migrant invaders, open voting records, and home to such pillars of virtue such as Enron.                                                         So I repeat myself,:Vote every incumbent out of office,or it's so long Democracy, hello Facism.
Whomever the republicans nominate, I'm voting against him.
Molly was the best bull spreader Texas ever knew.  Miss her bull, it was the only good thing about Texas.
RIP Molly. The bubbas are a disgrace to the state of Texas, you always knew that and said so!
Does it really help Rudy when one a-ss endorses another?
Tezas Longhorn - you'll like being part of Mexico, again.
Do not let some of these other Texans fool everyone into thinking that most Texans like Rick Perry. You only have to look as far as the 06 governor's race to see that the majority of Texans do not approve of this clown.

He's a complete joke.
Trust me when I tell you that this is strictly a bid for the VP slot by Perry. The "good hair" remarks are right on target.

You have to realize that the governorship of Texas (a hold-over from Reconstruction) is virtually powerless. The Lt Gov is the powerful position.

The only governor to have used the office effectively in the past twenty years was Ann Richards (and no, I didn't support everything she did - I didn't even live in Texas until the last year of her term)as she knew how to pound that bully pulpit. GWB just understood the "bully" part and Perry doesn't do anything. He, at least, is more verbally competent than was and is GWB.

Jerry - tell me what you think Perry has done to deserve your accolades.

I would vote for Satan before I vote for Hillary or any other Demoncrat but I guess there really wouldn't be that much difference between them.Go Rick & Rudy!
Why would anyone lsiten to a governor who was elected with marginally 30% of the vote? Perry has been bought by the open borders lobby, big business, and the Chamber of Commerce. Its depressing and frustrating for us Texans to have to baby sit this moron and his cronies in the Texas House and Senate simply to prevent them from passing even more idiotic, damaging legislation. Perry's political career is over, and as far as most Texans are concerned; so is Rudy's!
Yeah, more Texans talking better than they fight.  Texas - #1 in clowns!  No wonder you're always falling over your feet!  It's those big 'ol clown shoes!  When Molly Ivins died, the average IQ dropped 10 whole points!
IntheMiddle, TX and anyone else who thinks Rudy is the next messiah...the only good thing is that you live in Texas and regardless of your vote, it's a guarantee win for the republican candidate so your vote and opinion is not worth a heck of a lot.  If you were from Ohio, or another so called swing state, then you might have some impact.  But alas, you're vote is not going to mean much.  And for those bashing NY candidates...while I am not a Rudy fan, this country is loooong over due for a NY'er back in the White House...given how well we did with the last two [Teddy Roosevelt and his cousin Frankie].  Enough with these bible beating hicks!
IntheMiddle, TX, oldest trick in the book in advertising is to promote the negatives as a positive.
I had a Choice to move to Texas, when the company where I was employed moved its main office from Atlanta Georgia to Houston. I thought at first what a wonderful state, open politics, where people respect individual rights and no income taxes. All was smoke and mirrors. I pay more in state taxes even without income tax. I see that politics is open, if you have a friend in power, and individual rights mean my rights over yours. So Texas is not better than Georgia, just different, Both States have pros and cons. Are you afraid to Air the Dirty laundry. I would be Just as critical of my home state and have been, if the Gov was trying the same thing there. At least Georgia the roads are well maintained and are free of tolls. The interstates here are not as bad as Louisiana, but then Mississippi has better roads than Texas. Bottom Line is that Perry has made many proposals and the ones that have come to bear fruit, where more like lemons that the grapes that were dangled before us.
Hmmmmmm - Rick Perry you say.  Now wasn't he in the pest control business with former & now disgraced Speaker of the House Tom DeLay??  Pest control lost a couple of good men to politics...but hey, the door's always open! Cleaning up Texas could take several lifetimes.....
Rick Fairy, goobernator of texass endorses rudy the red nosed reprehensible. Will they hold hands like shrub and his butt buddy from saudi arabia too?
Sure j  your gov is super, just the kind of guy you like!

I suppose in Boston it is acceptable to make up numbers.  Texas may not be the best an any of these categories, but I am pretty sure we are not the worst in all of them.  But please, enlighten us with where you got these statistics, as I am fairly sure they came from the oraface in your backside.
Bobby, you can't vote for Satan, he is just finishing his second term.
Enuogh allready!George Bush is the worst Resident in the history of the country. If his mouth is open,he is lying. At one time,I actually thought he was simply incapable of doing the job he was selected for by 5 very conservative S.C. judges, and influenced by Dick Cheney. But the truth is no matter how many times you repeat a lie,it does not make it the truth.W.M.D.'s to "we don't torture the man is only a tool for Corporate America.Be afraid.Be very afraid .                            May God have mercy on us all, every candidate is a liar.

No actually I'm talking about the Lone Star Iconoclast. I didn't know the Houston Chronicle endorsed Kerry. Yet another reason to go "hmmmm" when discussing DUMBYA'.
Oh, and I'll GLADLY stick to New York.
Texas is is filled with WHACKOS and miscreants like Lee Harvey Oswald, the guy who shot at people from the Tower in downtown Austin, The two guys who dragged an African American man behind their p/u truck until his head fell off, and of course that great Right-Wing Christian Leader David Koresh.
Do you know why Mexico doesn't fall off into the 'Gulf?
Because Texas SUCKS!
You can take Texas and shove it.
How's that grab ya'?

TEC:

At least we have plenty of drinking water and you can your time to take a shower, unlike Atlanta.  You can always move back if you should so desire.

...and if you vote for Gigolo Rudy 'G' that's exactly who you're voting for. Satan himself.
Go HOME Rick & Rudy!
John in San Antonio:

Maybe one day the democrats will find a real man to run for governor.  Here is Texas, a real liberal man is very far and few inbetween, about the distance between El paso and Sabine Pass.
