Texas governor endorses Rudy

Posted: Wednesday, October 17, 2007 10:06 AM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC’s Andy Merten
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Giuliani received the endorsement of Texas Gov. Rick Perry this morning here -- his first nod from a sitting governor. Perry cited the former mayor’s success in reducing crime and cutting spending during his tenure, in addition to his preparedness in dealing with terrorism, as reasons for supporting him.

But Perry began his remarks with a topic that isn’t always acknowledged as one of Rudy’s strengths -- illegal immigration. “There’s no such thing as homeland security without border security,” the governor said, asserting that Giuliani’s success fighting crime will equip him to reduce illegal border crossing as president.

Perry also used his brief remarks to get in a dig at Romney, poking fun at the former Massachusetts governor’s Iran gaffe at last week’s debate in Dearborn, Mich., in which he said he would consult attorneys before pursuing unilateral military action against Tehran. The next president “must be able to stare down criminal elements,” Perry said, “whether they’re trafficking drugs or planting roadside bombs -- without dialing up their lawyer first.”

And when asked whether his conservative views sync up with Giuliani’s more left-leaning social opinions, Perry echoed his presidential pick’s often-cited Reagan quote that “if you’re my 80 percent friend, you’re not my 20 percent enemy," with a bit more southern-folksy flare. Said Perry: “When I go to buy a pickup truck, if it has one option on it that I’m not fond of, it doesn’t mean I disregard that pickup truck.” He added that his main concern is that the next president nominates “strict constructionists” to the Supreme Court -- something he said he is assured Rudy will do.

Perry’s endorsement came before Giuliani spoke before the Club for Growth, at which the Texas governor -- who received a B rating from the Cato Institute in 2006 -- also introduced the mayor and told the crowd of about 100 of his endorsement. In Rudy’s remarks to the friendly audience, he stuck to the fiscal conservatism section of his stump speech, calling for reductions in spending, taxation, regulation and lawsuits, while slamming Democratic policies as the reason for economic stagnation.

But during the question-and-answer session, in which audience members could write down questions to be selected and read by a moderator, Giuliani was asked to compare his healthcare plan with “Romney-care.” He resisted criticizing his Republican opponent and instead targeted “Hillary-care,” saying that mandating coverage will immediately causes prices to rise.

“I don’t even think this is ideological, this is lack of experience,” Giuliani said of Democrats’ approach to health care.

InTheMiddleTx.....TEXAS SUCKS
Get over it.
How the hell does someone get elected governor with 30% of The vote?
That's laughable.
"Don't mess with Texas."
Please!
Merle:

Since you cannot prove the 2000 and 2004 races, we won't go there....

H P Boston:

Why would be we want a democrat in Texas?
we don't plan on building a tunnel anytime soon.....

We already had one democrat woman in the state house..
had 6 open bottles of liquor in her car.....
got caught by the state police......
tried to seduce the state police......
didn't work.........
got voted out.......
we didn't need a female version of Ted (burp) Kennedy.

Now we have a Democrat who chased a naked woman into a convenience store....
told the clerk he was the police......
wasn't a cop......
told everybody he was a lawyer......
he can't prove it.........
raised money for several democrat candidates.....
thousands of dollars........
one of those candidates........
Hillary Clinton........
He may be going to jail......

democrats are about the same as criminals in texas.
Hey Stanley, watch out!  The black helicopters are outside your window.

What is it with conspiracy nuts?  Get over it!!  Let it go, you'll feel better!!
When Molly Ivins died, the average IQ dropped 10 whole points!

Both in Texas, and in Hell.
Where is this guy from MA getting these phony nuumbers? We may be down in some areas but I guarantee you we are by far not the worst. He obviously doesn't know jack about Texas. All he knows is how to keep electing a murderer that can "Boogaloo" with the best of them (His constant shaking).
Sure j  your gov is super, just the kind of guy you like!
Texass: 50TH IN CHILD HEALTH CARE!

That is your "GOVENOR GOOD HAIR."

TEXASS:  NUMBER ONE in high school dropouts!!

TEXASS:  1st in domestic violence!!

1st in % of population with no health insurance!

Like I said you need a a DEMOCRAT, your state is a mess!!

I guess this could be true if you include all the illegals who the Democratic Senate continue to support and encourage to suck the blood out of this country while the real citizens continue to pay for this cancer.  That's what you get with santuary cities like Houston.
Lynn, it just says there are alot of moronic, naive people in this country.

=====

No, it shows how stupid the democrats are.  They are so stupid they think they are smart, and that's as dumb as you can get.  It's now at the point again where the dems are putting up the same set of dumb-ass northeast liberals and thinking that they have a shot at winning.  The dems will never learn, they keep calling people that don't agree with them stupid.  It's that kind of attitude that makes it fun to rub your collective noses in it, again and again.
Jerry writes:

"democrats are about the same as criminals in texas"

I want to know where is your hard core objective intelligent proof to support that statement?  Be careful Jerry...with outrageous comments like that, maybe no one will take your posts seriously! HA! Too late...that's already the case.
Jerry, once again you just substantiate what these posters have said about people from Texas. You are your worst enemy.
Pat:

Well, there is Ramsey Munoz.....
he ran for Governor under the La Raza party here back in the 70's.......
now in jail for drug offenses.......
had a bunch of people wearing brown berets.....
I'll pass on the German remarks.....
they were very anti-american......

Now Hillary Clinton has a member of La Raza on her staff.....

I think you can connect the dots......
inthemiddle...you talk like you have the emotional capacity of a 12 year old. People from Texas can say what ever the hell they want. Grow up!
Texas is a great state, it does not suck, and all Texans are not inbred whackos.

It is ridiculous to say that democrats are about the same as criminals in Texas, but 'pert near everything jerry says is ridiculous.

Having said that, Rick Perry is about as worthless a governor as any state has ever had, and our state government has been a sick joke since being taken over by republicans.  Unless of course you're an insurance company, big business, etc., etc.

Finally, while it's true that boy george claims to be a Texan, he ain't no more a true Texan than I'm thinkin' of flyin'.
Oh Jerry...you've got your fair share of criminal republicans.  And just because there are some democrats who are criminals, let's look at the commonality...they're all politicians!
Jay Murl Stan Lee:

You're in common form today.
Ah yea.. George Prickwood, you will be crying and hyperventilating after election day when the Clintons roll back into the Whitehouse. I notice the rightwingers are becoming more and more shrill and desparate by the day. Tooo baad! booo hooo! The viciousness and lies and shrieking from the gasbag Rush and the rightwing are definitely increasing. Anybody else notice the high pitch noise?
Can care less about all this stuff...George Lucs developing live action spin off of Star Wars for TV.  All is right in the world again.
Scott in South Texas (Sent Wednesday, October 17, 2007 12:27 PM)

Too True!!

Scott - sure wish you'd check out Civil Discourse - there are some great conversations going on and one of them has to do with Texas. I'd love to see your reactions.

http://www.civildiscourse.com/index.php?act=idx

Did you hear about Kay "baby"? Not running again? (of course she isn't up for reelection until 2012). Big of her huh? She said she supported term limits to be set for 2 terms and was just (amazingly) elected to her 3rd term. Evidently, she thinks she can damage us further as governor and is thinking about running when that election comes up. That Kay - always thinking: NOT!!
".....John in San Antonio:

Maybe one day the democrats will find a real man to run for governor.  Here is Texas, a real liberal man is very far and few inbetween, about the distance between El paso and Sabine Pass.
jerry/corpus christi texas (Sent Wednesday, October 17, 2007 11:49 AM)....."

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha
Liberals ARE real men, jerry.
CANTservatives are the one's who run away from military service.
You're real tough in text jerry....I'll bet you're a pansie in person.
If I didn't have a reason to vote against Giuliani before, then this endorsement by Perry gives me good cause to avoid the man. Anyone that Perry would endorse definitely gives me cause to vote against the person.
Perry is the nut that financed the "swift boat goons for Bush" then when Kerry sued them Mr. Perry sat on his money and left them twisting in the wind.
Yea Susan I notice the rightwing noise getting louder and you can feel the panic in it too.
Susan, Miami:

<Anyone else notice the high pitch noise?>

Only in your post, actually.  Had to put on ear muffs just to read it. I think in psychological terms you are exercising transference, attributing your own behavior to others, or something like that.  Bring it up with your therapist.

Have you bid on Harry Reid's original Rush Limbaugh smear letter yet?  About 70 grand will put you in the lead.  It's a bargain with 41 original autographs from your favorite politicians.

Or you can just download a copy from his (Limbaugh's, not Reid's)website.
Bush jr wasn't born in TEXAS he was born in New Haven Connecticut. If he was a true TEXAN, America would be for Americans not for people who piss on it. Perry I hope someone can build the world's biggest toilet paper roll for your trans corridoor. I know we the people of America will be wiping Cannada's and Mexico's a--'s if built. Rudy please don't ride the I was there 911 train. Hillary it's not the amount of money you have raised, it's how much of a American are you.
Well merle, there is your challange:

Find a REAL Liberal man in texas to run against Rick Perry......

I guess according to your statement.....
New Yorkers needed a woman since there wasn't a REAL liberal man that could handle the job.....

And what's worse......
She had to come from Illinois....
Wow... What a bitter comment section.  I can honestly say I agree with most of the presidents policies, even though only a few people support him, because he is still my president.  I didn't stoop to name-calling when Bill Clinton became a huge disappointment to me, because he was still my president.  The polarization of America continues.
Sounds like the Governor of Texas wants more illegals in his state. If you all remember Giuliani wants them all in New York. During one of the debates he said let them all come, they are ALL welcomed. Remember Giuliani is for Sanctuary Cities.  That might work, the illegals can all live in Texas, and the tax payers in Texas can support them. It is a shame that the Governor of Texas is supporting Giuliani, oh well..... Ron Paul has my vote.

Poor Texas.
Didn't gov.Perry get caught in bed with another guy?Clue please?Maybe it was Rudy?
J. Merle Stanley:  Thank GOD you are in New York!  I have met some great people from my adopted city of Buffalo, but none of them were the crotchety blowhard types like yourself.  Try and understand that not everyone agrees with your opinion, and some people actually respect each others differences.  That includes geographical differences.  Give it a whirl!
Brad in Texas (Sent Wednesday, October 17, 2007 1:18 PM)

This is not an attack but, rather, an honest request for clarification:

Did I understand you to mean in your post that you support the president's policies BECAUSE he is the president?

Did I misunderstand?
Jerry, you keep on trying to put that round peg into a square whole. You probably need the Texas hammer to drive that peg.  La raza from the seventies connets dots with Clinton in 2007. And as I said before no more Clintons and no more Bushes for president, but really trying to connect the dots between Ramsey Munoz and Clinton sounds like a conspiracy from the mind of a Rush Mouth. Yes I would love to return to Georgia and the drinking water issue in Atlanta is a complex issue involving a record drought, the Army core of engeniers and the City of Atlanta. Got to save the fresh water muscles in Florida. Texas will have water wars in a few years, because we can not conserve our most precious resource and we have plenty of water. At least in Georgia I would pay about 600.00 a year in property and school taxes, a 3.5 percent sales tax and a 6 percent state income tax all deductiable for the federal income tax. I could aford more of a house, because the property tax appraisals do rise faster than home values. We depended on govenor perry zoolander to deliver on his promise of property tax relief and have not seen a reduction. Please name one positive deed the Govenor has accomplished and did not turn lemonade into lemmons. He does not deserve the respect of conseratives or liberals in Texas. He is all about the power of politics and has proven beyond any resonable doubt, that he will say anything to gain that power and never deliver on the promises.
Nobody can beat Hillary.  57% of ALL female "likely voters" support her and 8 million more women than men voted in 2006.  The math is not hard.

So say whatever you like about Rick the P---- and Rude Rudy, they ain't gonna be running the country, thank god or whatever master of the universe you dig.
".....Since you cannot prove the 2000 and 2004 races, we won't go there....jerry/corpus christi texas (Sent Wednesday, October 17, 2007 11:57 AM)

OH BUT WE CAN (AND DID) PROVE THE 2000 ELECTION WAS STOLEN JERRY!
* RNC spent $600,000.00 on Florida absentee ballots from people not even registered to vote there.
* Absentee balLots were opened by local republiCANT committee members before being submitted to the board of elections.
* 4000 names on the felons list with no conviction date listed
* 400 names with future conviction dates
* 35 "same name" exclusions
* At least one local Florida court decision from a judge who indeed said the election was "irregular."
* An **UNSIGNED** decision from The U.S Supreme Court, that states within it's written text that it's a one time only ruling which sets no precedent.
As for 2004,....well you explain to me how electronic voting machines in that election included one Ohio county adding almost 4,000 extra votes to George W. Bush's tally, machines that wouldn't let voters record presidential votes for anyone but Bush, and "backwards counting" machines that subtracted votes from Kerry's vote totals.
All of these things were discussed under sworn tesitmony before congress.
Furthermore, two election workers in Ohio's most populous county were convicted of illegally rigging the 2004 presidential election recount so they could avoid a more thorough review of the votes.
Jacqueline Maiden, the elections' coordinator who was the board's third-highest ranking employee when she was indicted in March of '06,' and ballot manager Kathleen Dreamer each were convicted of a felony count of negligent misconduct of an elections employee...The felony conviction carries a possible sentence of six to 18 months.

Oh, and as for the guy you wrote about who was running around naked.....at least he wasn't naked and trying to have sex with a little kid....which is what republiCANTS do regularly.
We eat ten gallon hats and cowboy boots for breakfast up here jerry. You wouldn't last 10 minutes in New York and neither would any of your trailer park pals from TexASS.

Brad is soft in the head  BUSH SUCKS!! He is the worst president EVER!  You Brad support a killer, a lying warmonger and a alcoholic brain damaged loser!
If you voted for him join the shit list! As you troll here be aware we KNOW bush sucks and you can not interject your so called "we respect the office of the president", we do not now that it is dishonored!
Post to jerry he is at you level.
Rufus Gibbons, DC, that was Bob Perry not Rick Perry that financed the Swift boat crew. Rick and Bob are not related, but are join at the hip with campaing finance donations. Bob got Rick to support a Bill that takes rights away from home owners in favor of builders. Bob is one of the bigest home Builders in Texas, as owner of Perry Homes. Basically Bob got a law that prevents new home owners from filing law suits against the builder over shoddy construction. Business rights trumps personal rights in republican land. Does that sound like a conserative value?
TEC: Well if Georgia is so much better..get to steppin' I lived there for 4 yrs at Ft Benning and I don't miss a damn thing about Georgia.
Brad in Texas, give this a whirl;
I really couldn't care less what you or any other trailer park red neck thinks about me, NY, The Democratic Party or Liberalism in general.
Do ya' get it?
Have a nice day.
Nate:  65% of women vote.

152 million women!

62% of men vote.

148 million men.

These are old stats from 2000, I will see if .gov has updated.  Geezzz what do they spend our taxes on?
Thanks for the great post your stats are inspiring!
Independent, I did indeed read the "big" news about Kay Baby, and the article I read said she's thinking of running for governor in 2010 (giving up her last two years as our Junior Bubblehead senator).  Seems I remember she made some noise about running against Rick last time around.  Is she qualified ?  Well, she has an (R) behind her name on the ballot, and if she'll follow the orders of the Big Money Men, she could very well get elected.  Think jerry could could get over her being a woman ?

Rufus, you're thinking of Bob Perry, a big time home builder and developer.  He doesn't serve in Texas government, he owns it.
I think that the hate-filled comments on this page stifle any type of reconcilliation between differing politics. The thinly disguised profanity is a sad proof that when people run out of intelligent arguments, they use explitives to fill in the blanks. If I have personally offende anyone,I apologize to my fellow citizens.Just as a suggestion, try to use common(or not so common)sense and try to reconcile your differences in a civilized way. Please America, think before you vote.Study each persons stated views and try to hold your candidate to their promises. If we don't change our attitude of "Party First",then we will become the huddled masses.Peace.

THERE YOU HAVE IT FOLKS!
JERRY/CORPUS CHRISTIE TEXAS, WHO IS AN UNOFFICIAL SPOKESPERSON FOR THE REPUBLICANt PARTY AND THE MOST "VOCAL" caNtSERVATIVE ON THIS BOARD, SAYS THAT WOMAN IN GENERAL ARE INCAPABLE OF LEADERSHIP ROLES, AND NO WOMAN SHOULD EVER BE PRESIDENT.
GEE, AND I THOUGHt REPUBLICANtS WANTED TO BE "THE PARTY OF THE PEOPLE."
THANK YOU, JERRY, FOR SHOWING US WHAT SEXIST A-HOLES YOU REPUBLICANtS REALLY ARE.
OH AND JERRY.....PERRY GOT 30% OF THE VOTE. THAT'S NOT VERY IMPRESSIVE AT ALL.
Jerry are you gay? I don't meant to slander gay people.  You come off as a big woman hater in your posts.
Rich-Wash-Stain
I really get under your skin.
Don't I, boy?
Ha Ha Ha Ha
GOOD!
George:  What do you define as northeast?  While Hillary is a NY Senator, she was raised in IL, and spent nearly 20 years in Arkansas.  Obama is from Illinois.  Edwards is from North Carolina.  Richardson is from New Mexico.  Biden is from Delaware, which I don't think is really northest but I'll give you that one.

I guess northeast is relative.
Merle:

Too bad it would be proved in a court of law....

But anyway...

In Ohio, it was people associated with the NAACP and the democratic party that were involved in the voter fraud case.  Of course, the democrats denied it (uh huh) but the people were arrested.

So your arguement that Bush stole the election is a bit on the "who shot JFK" side of the road....

This would have all but ended anyway if Al Gore would have won his own state!

Brad:
If you are saying what I think you are saying, that we should support our president's policies because he is our president, then I have to disagree with you.

American citizens have not only the right but the duty to question our leaders about their policies.  We have a duty to make sure that they are acting in our best interests, and not in their own best interests.  A flourishing democracy (or democratic republic, as it were) requires an active citizenry, and in the absence of one, will yield to some form of dictatorship.  The American public cannot be a rubber stamp for presidential policies.

Whether we should give our president deference is another matter entirely.  In my opinion, so long as a president has not abused his authority and has not given me cause for concern about his intentions, then we should give him the benefit of the doubt.  However, when said president has demonstrated repeatedly that it is not the will of the people but his own will that matters most, he has lost any right to that benefit.
Ja Murl Stainley:

Yeah, Ja Murl, you're a regular lyme disease delivery system.
IntheMiddle, TX if I had lived there for 4 yrs at Ft Benning and I do not think I would have fond memories either. It would be like living at Lackland in San Antonio for four years except there are probably more liberals in San Antonio. Columbus, Ga. would have dried up and died if that fort was not there. I think now days the city could stand on its own. Anyway, what good deeds have the Good hair Zoolander Perry accomplished? Yes I did check out his self promoting web site and did not see anything that contradicted any statements I made about the Good hair guy. HT key word is accomplished. Proposals and good intent have not stopped him from turning lemonade into lemons.
Perry is not well-thought of, or respected much in TX.  The trans-corridor, trying to force parents to immunize their 11yr. old daughters with a vaccine regardless of whether parents think it safe or not, and his attempts at making as many roads in TX toll roads have not endeared him to very many people here in Texas.  To hear Perry tell it,  he single-handedly rescued all those displaced from hurricane Rita.  Wow! kinda sounds like Rudy's claim to being the savior of NY city.
Run Rudy Run...split the GOP right in half.
I trust Governor Perry to size up the candidates. He has a degree in Animal Science from Texas A and M and lots of experience examining livestock.
