Brownback makes it official

From NBC's Lauren Appelbaum
In Topeka, KS this afternoon, Brownback made it official. "Today I'm ending my candidacy for the 2008 Republican nomination for president," he said while surrounded by his family and friends. "I do so with great love for my country, but with the recognition that my yellow brick road just came short of the White House this time."

He apologized to his constituents for his missed votes in the Senate and told them what a privilege it is to continue to represent them. The Kansas senator also said the experience of running for the nomination has its pluses. "I leave this stage a better man and hopefully America a better place," Brownback said, a bit choked up. "I'm amazed at such a wonderful nation, a powerful nation, that could allow the son of a Kansas farmer even to dream that he could live it and lead it."

What are we going to do with all this snake oil ?
Poor little Nazi, cutting and running.
This comes right after Steven Colbert announces he is running--- coincidence?
Ta. Take your Bible and teach science in Kansas.
Great, now let's see some of my Dems, that are in the same shape that this guy was, clear the field too.
I'm a Ron Paul supporter but I must tell you...... Sam Brownback is one class act! He has been a gentleman and a very knowledgeble speaker in all of the debates. I never really knew much of Sam but watching him over the past few months has left a very positive image for any future offices he may run for.
Best of luck to a true statesman!
Hopefully, Brownback's followers will get behind Huckabee.  Wasn't Huckabee impressive on Glenn Beck's show tonight?  He came across as being honest and straightforward.
There's no more Sam (for Prez, anyway).  But Sam I still am.  I do not like green eggs and ham.  I also do not care for Spam.  I am however still in Kan.......sas.  I have also ran.......and won, Senate elections.....so do not say that I don't give a damn!!
It was going to happen anyway, he could not win in the general election. I am surprised though that the american taliban let down one of their own. He was their clone but got little support. Do they know something we don't know?
Bye bye! Well, one more ideological nutjob down... 3 more to go, plus a moronic New York bully. I will be havily keeping my fingers crossed that every moron at that idiotic "value voters" summit decides to champion a 3rd candidate. Take a democratic president from SURE THING to... well, not even George Bush can steal this election.
The left is turning the political discourse in a direction that will lead to the ruin of this country.  the demonization of your politcal opposition as "Evil" or "Nazis" does not further the debate on ANY issues.  I did not agree with Sen Brownback, but always thought he was thoughtful, well spoken, and a class act.

So all comments are approved before appearing...but MSNBC.com allowed a comment from "M. Foley from Florida" (Right?) to write a hateful, demonizing comment.
It's too bad that elections are won with money and not with character. This guy could have been the best president ever!! Oh well, maybe he will be our next Vice President!

He's still been one helluva great public servant.  Thanks, Mr. Brownback.  At least you served while these lazy bloggers sat around and whelped.
'All comments must be approved before appearing in the thread; time and space constraints prevent all comments from appearing.'  Then you allow Sierra, SF, M Foley, Florida, and C'ya to post their comments?  Good job helping spread all those things eating away at the foundation of this nation.  Good job MSNBC, and you wonder why America sees the media as biased.
What are we going to do with all this snake oil ?

Use as much as you wish in an attempt to extract your head from its obvious place of residence. Fill your lungs to capacity with any remaining.
