Mitt: You can't root for the Sox & Yanks

Posted: Thursday, October 25, 2007 10:15 AM by Mark Murray

From NBC/National Journal's Erin McPike and NBC's Mark Murray
MANCHESTER, NH -- Right off the bat at a health-care forum here, Romney took a clear swipe at Giuliani's recent comment that he would be rooting for the Red Sox because he always supports the American League. Romney asked, "Anyone here a Red Sox fan?" And after the cheers he asked if they were also Yankees fans. To laughter he said, "You're one or the other, but probably not both, right?"

But is Romney the best messenger to make this dig? Earlier this year while stopping by the Iowa-Iowa State college football game, Romney told reporters that he was rooting for both teams.

Kind of reminds me of the guy who called in on Jim Rome's show and predicted Michigan would beat Ohio State 24-24........
I don't like Romney, would never vote for him, but as a U of I alum, and a die hard Hawkeye fan I have no problem with a candidate from another state saying he's cheering for both teams, why pick a side? Why would he care about the Hawks or the clones? Even local politicians, who didn't graduate from either school will claim to be supporting both schools. In this issue Romney's on solid ground.
If voters are really influenced by who a candidate roots or does not root for I would submit those voters are ones who should stay home next November...can we get some real politics here instead of this fluff n stuff?
Kind of reminds me of a decal on the back window of a car that just said COLLEGE
This is really stupid.  You tell me how the candidates should respond to sports questions. I am sick of these questions, and I even like sports.  Cover some real news.  There is so much that is ignored in these candidates platforms.
Good new for Romney out of NH too. A new poll has him leading the pack convincingly:

I'm all for the occasional "Who are you rooting for?" stuff to lighten the mood, but come on. This is about as important as "Are we eating too much garlic as a people?".
You CAN root for both.....

Just flip-flop, Willard
of course he's rooting for both teams ..he's the flip-flop king ..thats what they do ..right???
Yeah this is garbage and shouldn't be included in anything called political, sure the BCS bowl is a bunch of politics but US politics don't need to start involving sports!  I wanna see more actually political articles not stuff like this designed to just get people to think negativly of a canidate for any old reason!
On second thought, having at least one thread like this per day might be a nice escape from the insanity that goes on in the other threads.

As insignificant as it is, lets keep it.
Apparently, you can't be for both, by for Romney, you can invest in the Yankees? Talk about betrayal on this flip-flop idiot?
The pot talking to the kettle here.
Mitt has a LOT to learn about Iowa Football, for one thing, Cheering for a tie is ANATHEMA. The State team beat the Hawks, which may or may not have been an upset, to win that part of the Mythical State Champoinship, but they were whipped by the University of Northern Iowa Panthers who have claimed the Title. The Hawks were lucky they didn't have to play UNI this year. The Clones and the Hawks may have more students, but UNI has the "Invisible Grail". Here's hopin' they win the FCS! Go Cats! After that comes, "The Great Iowa Wrestle-Off"! Better practice your Granby, Mitt.
Giuliani - G - Grow a Neck
Romney   - R - Red Sox, Yankees, Red Sox, Yankees
McCain   - M - MY Turn. Darn it. It's MY Tuen.
You can root for both but that is what we call a ban wagon fan.  Rudy is rooting for Red Sox to pickup votes in N.H. where he trails by 10 points.  Romney is right like usual.  Rudy is a sell out.
Any member of Red Sox Nation knows that there are only two teams worth rooting for.  The Red Sox and the team that plays against the Yankees.

Guiliani is a Yankees fan.  He isn't fit to preside over Red Sox Nation.
Both teams are of the same philosophy, spend, spend, and spend some more. So why not root for both of them, they are cut of the same cloth? Mitt is such a boneheaded flip-flopper anyway, so why would anybody really care who he roots for?
More sports talk, ho hum, must be a slow day on the national catfight scene.
Gov. Romney is right...Rudy is indecisive and is rooting for the Red Sox to by him votes in New Hampshire....
If Rudy is cheering for the Red Sox's so what.  At least he is making a decision and not playing the middle of the road politics.  Mitt is one of those guys that would say "I was cheering for what ever team wins all along".
I guess if Romney can be for gay rights and also against gay rights, and for abortion rights and also against abortion rights, and for the right to conceal a handgun and also against the right to conceal a handgun, then it's not much of a stretch for Giuliani to be for both the Yankees and the Sox. And since Giuliani has further evidenced his indecisiveness by being a cross-dresser, this two-team schizophrenia is par for the course.
Do you think that Giuliani would be rooting for Colorado if the Yankees were in the Series? Duh.
remember Bush in that flight suit?
More cutting edge, in-depth journalism from the MSM.
I thought I saw Mitt today in a local dept. store, I was gonna ask him about it - but it was just a store dummie.
Mitt Romney is a Red Sox season ticket holder.
