Dodd criticizes Bush Adm on Iran

Posted: Thursday, October 25, 2007 12:52 PM by Mark Murray
Filed Under: , ,

From NBC's Mark Murray
Dodd just released a statement on the Bush Administration's announcement that it's designating the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization -- and also on, it seems, Hillary Clinton's vote last month for Lieberman-Kyl.

"I recognize the obvious threat a nuclear Iran poses to the region and beyond, and that we must stop Iran's continued support for international terrorism," Dodd said. "Unfortunately, the action taken by the Administration today comes in the context of escalating rhetoric and drumbeat to military action against Iran. I am deeply concerned that once again the President is opting for military action as a first resort."

Dodd adds in the statement, "The aggressive actions taken today by the Administration absent any corresponding diplomatic action is exactly what we all should have known was coming when we considered our vote on the Kyl-Lieberman Amendment, and smacks, frankly, of a dangerous step toward armed confrontation with Iran."

***UPDATE*** Edwards hits Bush, Cheney, Clinton again. Here's his statment:
“Today, George Bush and Dick Cheney again rattled the sabers in their march toward military action against Iran. The Bush Administration has been making plans to attack Iran for many months. At this critical moment, we need strong leadership to stand against George Bush’s dangerous ‘preventive war’ policy, which makes force the first option, not the last.

“I learned a clear lesson from the lead up to the Iraq War in 2002: if you give this president an inch, he will take a mile -- and launch a war. Senator Clinton apparently learned a different lesson. Instead of blocking George Bush’s new march to war, Senator Clinton and others are enabling him once again.

“I have called for strong, capable diplomacy to deal with the challenge of Iran, and a carrots and sticks strategy aimed at results -- not the Bush/Cheney path, which would escalate tensions, enable attacks, and lead to unintended consequences.

“The New Yorker recently reported that one reason the administration has not yet attacked Iran is because public opinion has turned against such a course.  Senator Clinton’s actions undermine the American people’s opposition to war with Iran. Today’s advancement of the Bush strategy on Iran shows how much we need strong opposition on this issue. I learned my lesson the hard way in 2002, but it appears that others still have some learning to do.”

*** UPDATE 2 *** Obama statement:
“It is important to have tough sanctions on Iran, particularly on the Iranian Revolutionary Guard which supports terrorism. But these sanctions must not be linked to any attempt to keep our troops in Iraq, or to take military action against Iran. Unfortunately, the Kyl-Lieberman amendment made the case for President Bush that we need to use our military presence in Iraq to counter Iran -- a case that has nothing to do with sanctioning the Revolutionary Guard."

If President Bush is going to war with Iran, he better hurry up......

His term is up and the next person will have to start that fight.
Didn't the US support the Taliban in the 80's ?
Didn't the US support Osama bin Laden in the 80's ?
How about the Contras ? UNITA ? Frelimo ? the death squads ?

When we support terrorists it's OK ?
When the US supports terrorists, we call them 'freedom fighters'

The Iranians probably consider Hezbollah 'freedom fighters'
Hezbollah attacked Israel AFTER the Israelis seized the Shaba Farms territory of Lebanon.
Is that not self defense against agression ?

Actually, the Israelis deliberately and openly attacked civilian infrastructure in Lebanon.
Is that terrorism ?

One man';s terrorist is another man's 'freedom fighter'

The Bush administration admitted Luis Posada Carriles into the United States.
Posada shot down a civilian Cuban airliner.

Is this terrorism ?
If so, why did the Bush regime welcome this terrorist into the US ?

Do you support Posada's entry into the US, Hillary ?

Appeasement does not work, Mr. Edwards. Wake up.
If John Edwards Speaks or issues a statement, I stopped reading it, as it only contanins bashing of HRC. There is no information on Policy or plans. He is absolutely pathetic presedential candidate across both parties. Why don't you Just withdraw Mr. Edwards?
Sierra-BINGO! Our foreign policy has always throughout history been supporting one dictator after another (He's a dictator but he's our dictator):Sadam, Duvalier, Batista, Somoza, Marcos, Pinochet, Pol Pot, Shah of Iran, Musharrif and the list goes on.
We need to buddy up to the Oppressive regime in Iran. It's the one country in the middle east where the majority of people have a favorable opinion of America. Doesn't anyone remember the so called lessons of 9-11?

It's a good think we have true statesmen like Dodd and Edwards who would never bang the drums of war for short term political gain. If you're stupid this was sarcasm.
You got it right and Congress has already given him their blessing and consent to do whatever it takes to fight terror anywhere in the world.  By declaring the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization Sheriff President Bush and our stupid Congressional Posey are well on their way to another hanging. Let's kill em all that way we're bound to get the right one. Ye Hah!  "God forgive us for all the death and destruction we have committed in the name of democracy building the "Dogs of War's" dream of the largest military complex in the world, in the middle east".
Dodd, getting confused yet again, criticized Bush for having too many National Guard troops fighting fires in California rather then having them on patrol in Iraq.

I think Chris needs a new chief of staff to keep him up to speed on what is going on.
Criticism is good; but critcism without an alternative is bad.  As yet I have seen nothing but criticism.  It is time for some sound alternatives, and if there are none, be quite.
Yeah. You learn lessons the hard way. This is our nature as human. And, there are harder lessons to come. History  keeps repeating teaching simple lessons. And, we are not learning the very first one. We have never been brave enough to admit our own mistakes. Let's forget about the politics for a moment, and check out our daily lives.

John needs to go back to what he seems to do best, suing people..

Chris my boy, confusion and stupidity seem to be bliss.
Give George Bush the tools for diplomacy and he will only see a war hammer.
The last PBS "Front Line" report described how the Bush regime has been largely responsible for the radicalization of  the Iranian leadership. At the time of the  9/11 attacks, Iran had more moderate leaders who actually assisted the US against the Taliban in Afghanistan. At one point, Iran even offered to recognize the state of Israel as part of a bargain with the US.

But Bush gave his stupid "Axis of Evil" speech where he listed Iran as one of his boogeymen, along with Saddam Hussein and North Korea. That and other acts of  Bush belligerence convinced the Iranians that moderation  was futile, and the moderates were replaced by the  Ahmadinejad, who is as crazy as Bush.

The accusations and threats that Bush and Cheney are now making against Iran on a routine basis are only increasing the power of the most extreme elements in Iran's leadership.

And before the wingnuts whine about "Bush bashing", I can truthfully  say that I actually thought that he might work out as a decent leader when the US first invaded Afghanistan, where America's REAL enemies were hiding out.  But then when he gave his "Axis of Evil" speech, it became clear that Bush's elevator didn't go all the way to the top floor.

So is blaming Bush and his neocon handlers for the tensions with Iran Bush bashing? Yeah. And they deserve to be bashed because the facts show that they've made the world a more dangerous place than it would have been if the US didn't have a bunch of war mongers in leadership positions.
Thank you, juan...
We don't just support dictators, we install them....
We overthrew the elected Arbenz, Mossedegh, and Allende governments.

You reap what you sow ....

The French destroyed a Greenpeace sip in New Zealand, protesting nuclear testing.

Then they blackmailed New Zealand to let their agents go.

Sounds like terrorism to me....
Right on Paw Paw!

Israel is rumored to have more than a hundred nukes - to say it's an unfair playing field in the middle east is just a slight understatement. Israel's call for bombing Iran is utterly arrogant and utterly typical. But regardless of the nuke issue, Israel's main concern is being overrun by the Arab population - that's why they've been desperately importing jews from around the world for years - trying to disguise the obvious apartheid situation. Ultimately, Israel will be swallowed up by its neighbors as South Africa was swallowed up. It may take some time, money, and blood - but Israel is fighting the tide and both it and Iran knows this.Iran doesn't need nukes. All they need to do is keep harping on the world about Israel's abuse of human rights. Hezbollah is just there to make life a bit miserable for the Israelis. They will never be liberators - only the Palestinian people can make that happen.

The whole premise of the U.S. accusations against Iran is absurd. Bush has accused Iran of interfering with Iraq, and providing weapons to Iraqis, of creating fighting and killing in Iraq? Why aren't we all laughing? The fighting, the killing, the weapons in Iraq have all been created by Bush. How dare he accuse someone else of doing what he himself has done?

Iran, just like all the other countries in that region, suffers because of the U.S. invasion of Iraq, and the U.S. bombing and assault on other countries and regions in the middle east through Israel. All the refugees in the middle east - millions of them - create intolerable and devastating conditions for all Iraq's neighbors. I guess the neighbors can get involved if they want to. If George Bush wants everyone out of Iraq, I'm all for it - he should lead the parade to the airport and back to the U.S.

Finally, anything that was 'removed' from the resolution to "satisfy" Democrats is just nonsense. If these Democrats had any spine, or any commitment to ending war, they would have voted against this. Remember, Congress has the authority and responsibility to vote for war, and their turning it over to Bush is just the cowards way of letting him do it and then they can come back later and say they were fooled. Actually this vote appears to be a continuation of the Aipac program, used recently in the House, to demand that Congress not take any steps to prevent Cheney/Bush from attacking Iran.

I also found it disgusting that so many Dems would support this resolution even though it was nonbinding that was sponsored by the likes of cretins like Lieberman and Kyl. I wonder how many votes the exact same resolution would have gotten if instead it had been sponsored by Larry Craig?

Giving Lieberman and his neocon warhawk supporters any credibility at all seems like a grave mistake especially if your goal is trying to end the war in Iraq. You would think that all of these same Senators now fully aware of how Bush betrayed them all when they voted for his Authorization for Use of Force believing he would only use this as a last resort, would have inoculated themselves by now against even opening a slight crack for Bush to attack another sovereign country preemptively.

Some Senators had to vote for this resolution because they get a lot of money and support from Jewish lobbyists who are advocating for the destruction of Iran's nuclear capabilities. That certainly would explain Carl Levin and Hillary's vote for this resolution and Schumer's.
I'd like to make some points here.
First - the US media is kowtowing to the neocons. We in the US NEVER get the full story about the middle-east, god forbid anyone would question what part Israel has to play in the plan for Iran. Iran is 5 years away from nuclear capbility.
Second - It is not in the US's interest to go after Iran, but it has everything to do with "protecting" Israel. Israel has wanted to go after Iran for years now but settled for Iraq first per Bush who thought they could get in and out and then get into Iran.So be careful of Hillary Clinton. She will keep us in Iraq and then get us, probably mired in Iran.
Third - the warmongering for Iran is in Israel's best interest, not ours, and is being pushed by AIPAC and ADL  like crazy. Don't be fooled. AIPAC runs congress and everyone knows it, but if you say anything they try and smear you as an "anti-semite", a smokescreen to shut down any debate or conversation about Israeli policies. Becareful of Hillary, she is in AIPAC's pocket.
Fourth - read The Israeli Lobby by Mearshimer and Walt. It's an eye opener.
Fifth - someone needs to make it crystal clear to Cheney first and then hopefully Hillary and then the others will get the message - NO! WE NOT LET YOU DRAG US INTO ANOTHER WAR IN IRAN. PERIOD.
If war is unilaterally started with Iran, like it was in Iraq, then history will recall 2003 as the year World War 3 started.  Iraq had NOTHING to do with 9/11.  Now we start wars that have no merit or basis.  We simply do not like their leaders...that's all it takes.
This is an age of insanity by the thirst for natural resources (oil), dollar supremacy, and preserving our hegemony; at what cost though?  Blood of millions, human dignity and our position in the world.  I think we are becoming too ambitious as an Empire to sustain ourselves for long, it will cost us dearly. The world will not tolerate a unipolar world where we dictate the rules of our game. Russia, China, India, Brazil (South America), will not be allow it. Wake up to reality, we cannot subjugate the world by force (pre-emptive wars).
Bush and the hawkish corporate/military establishment cannot blind to reality that a mighty military does not make us invisible. Technology is now available to the rest of the world, and yes, they can shoot down our satellites, and create terrible damage with cyber wars. We need to engage the world, before it's too late. Force/Violance is not the answer. It will push for WWIII.
John Edwards is the only candidate who does have a plan for everything from farm incentives to health care to dealing with the Middle East.  The man doesn't get the media coverage HRC and Obama do, but he's the one who has my vote.  He makes sense and doesn't beat around the bush.
Anyone smell another false flag coming? Don't be fooled the Clintons are with the neocons. Perhaps they'll wait till she's in office. When will American's come to thier senses and put these criminals in a deep dark place? I'm surprized NBC(one of thier major propoganda machines) puts out any truth whatsoever. Wake up America or we are all in deep trouble.
A few months ago every body was saying GWB was getting us into war with N Korea. How could we possibly fight on two fronts. Well, last I heard N Korea was shutting down it reactor. We are not dealing with a civilized country. There are a lot of civilized people there dont get me wrong. Their leadership is based on Islam. The kind that women walk behind the men veiled with wrists covered. If a women is raped she has to have 3 men that wittnessed it before she can press charges, the type that hangs gays, and will stone women (not men because its always the womens fault) who commit adultrey. It is obvious that they only respect strength. So even though I DO NOT like Sen Clinton at least she is a Dem that at least partially understands who we are dealing with!!!
I can't wait until we invade Iran. Really.

Then the ENTIRE Arab world will be united against us. Bin Laden - the true and ONLY mastermind of 9/11 who still runs free - will become more powerful than ever.

And, finally, all these conservatives and hawks can watch their sons go fight the wars they're so damn gung-ho about because we'll need to enact a draft.

Everyone for war: go fight it. Otherwise, shut up. Because until then it's Bush/Cheney/Clinton sending 1 percent of our poor kids to fight their ideaolgical madness and the rest of ya'll are online or at the mall!
Sierra learn your history before you comment the Taliban was not even an organization in the 80's. They formed in the 90's following the civil war which ensued the Soviet retreat. Shebba Farms was captured in the 1967 war and is recognized as a part of Isreal by the UN. Will you libs please wake up!
Don't you know it takes more than one to have a fight. If we left the world stage today what do you think will happen? The islamic fanatics will continue to kill Americans until we all are studying the Koran.
As for Dodd,I lived for 28 years in Connecticut, he is a fool. Another political family,ie, the Kennedys is the only reason he is still in the Senate
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corp is a suspect organization from the get-go because of their support of terrorist organizations around the Middle East and further the goal of destroying Israel.

For those that feel that Israel is to blame on all of this, please review some simple facts: Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East.  It has been attacked by enemies that were backed by the Soviet Union (when it was around).  How many countries in the Middle East have their court system tell them to stop doing something because it is against their own laws?  The answer is Israel because the citizens vote.  I don't hear about Israel executing children, homosexuals or others with minimal chance for appeal if there is any; that would be Iran.

To Sierra:
Hezbollah is a terrorist group.  It targets civilians when it fires rockets into Israel.  How is that anything but a cowardly terrorist attack.  Hezbollah wants Lebanon under Syrian control rather than a completely independant Lebanon.  I have to wonder about that.  If you will note what you said about the Israelis, they attacked infastructure rather than the actual civilian population.

To "The Truth"
You are very mistaken.  You should call yourself "The Lie."  Israel is fighting for its very life every day because there are Arabs and Muslims that want to destroy the state of Israel.  The reason why Jews move to Israel is because that is our only homeland.  Look at the history of the Jews; Jews have been force from most if not all places that they were in at some point in their lives; Spain, England are examples.  If you think that Jews could call any place home, then you should look at the history one more time because Jews have been descriminated everywhere even in the U.S.

Beth from Chandler:
Israel, most likely, would have prefered that the current administration focus on diplomatic efforts between Israel and the Arabs instead of just going willy-nilly into Iraq.  If AIPAC really controlled Congress, how do many Arab countries get various aid packages that include weapons that could be used against Israel?  There have been examples of the Saudis, among others, getting planes among other equipment that Israel would preferred they not get.  Mearshimer and Walt's book has some flaws even their supporters find questionable.
John Edwards should be advised to take good care of wife's health and STOP chasing shadow. Where was Edwards at 2004 Presential election? Kerry/Edwards ticket fail to carry North and South carolina. Why? You claim to electable and can not carry your own state. You can NEVER compare your miserable political failure with outstanding olitical success of Clintons. A word is enough for the wise.
Ahhh, today's comments are interesting reading.  It looks like we seeing the rise of jew hating again?  Blaming jews and Israel for Iran's terrorist policies.  For Osama, for WTC...  Ahh well, better to have people like that out in the open speaking up, instead of doing the German thing - of, well, going along while millions of jews and other "out of favor" people got slaughtered.

Someone mentioned that Israel has nukes.  Nobody is going to argue that.  But how many have they sold/given away to terrorists, in the 30 years they've had them.   Now, what do you think will happen when Iran has a few nukes to spare...

Last time the WTC destruction was terrible, but you know the terrorists won't be happy until they take out all of Manhattan.

But when the Muslims succeed in setting off something nuclear in the US, smart or dirty, I'm sure you'll all be the first to blame Israel.
We should exile Joe Lieberman directly to Isreal.  He no longer represents the American people.  All he wants to do is bomb any and all Arab countries.  He is a pitiful representation, the people of Connecticutt should be ashamed of themselves, unless he actually and solely represents only the Jewish population of that state.  I cannot believe that they are in the majority there.
A comment to the redneck from Okc; there's more people in prisons here than anywhere in the world; woman are raped here probably more frequently than other countries or at least equal to, once is too much; people are being murdered here by spouses, etc. and are in the media too much of the time, once is too much. For Christ's sake wake up and look around. These people in the "administration" aren't interested in the truth. They are the nazis of the modern society - oppressive, secretive, fascist and bioted and war-minded. They are out and out hypocritical war criminals and the "congress" supports them. We need citizen legislators who have some understanding of truth, not military-industrial ideologues who appear to have an agenda for the U.S. This is not a Christian agenda, but an agenda from hell.
Any comment from Obama on this issue has become moot, as he supported a similar resolution just a matter of months ago. In addition, the comments from Edwards are anything but straightforward and honest, as the resolution in question does NOTHING that Edwards is claiming. And to suggest Hillary's vote is an "enabling" vote to war is rhetorically offensive (at best). He ought to read the resolution (which he clearly has not)....He is obviously trying to use the Iran issue to bolster his candidacy by trying to bring another candidacy down, which is unfortunate. He's a smart guy, with interesting ideas. Rather than touting his own ideas, however, he has now reverted to the BS politics of making false claims on others to try to bring them down. Dodd is less obtuse. However, is this was not a political year, he would (most likely) have voted "yes" on the amendment. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard is not a mystery. Ultimately, this congress will NOT give Bush the authority to go to war. The Kyl-Lieberman resolution does nothing to empower this administration. Dodd knows this (as do the others).
Bush administration brings a new definition to the war, they changed war to a business. A business for security companies. This is a real danger for world security. They also brings the idea of pri-empitive attack, you can imagine if other countries also choose the same strategy against U.S. or other countries. It is the time that people of America do something. Because I don't see any movement from congress. They are so busy with their popularity measures.
Once again the tail is leading the dog.

The same idiots that push for the Iraq war (for the real reason; Saddam was supporting the Palestinians, not WMD, etc.)are back at it, now with Iran, using another lie with no concrete evidence.

Not only is Israel having us fight their battles and benefiting from our tax dollars, they will eventually bring us down with its own demise.

Wake up America!!
Religion (e.g  fundamentalist muslim) can always be the perfect excuse to get the masses emotionally charged,  in order to manipulate the masses to get public opinions for military expeditions and ultimately get what we want.
In this case, it's obvious, Iran is starting to sell oil in other currencies other than the dollar, they are becoming an emergent power in the middle east, a vital region rich in natural resources, and they are a key player in this strategic region. NOT GOOD for our interests. Iran is more moderate when it comes to religion, and less fundamentalist than the rest of the Arabs (including Saudis, but they play our game). We should not antagonize the Iranians, but become partners. They need nuclear technology. it's estimated that 15-20 years their oil will start to dissipate. It's critical for their survival to find new sources of energy. Obviously we want to keep them underpowered, and keep Israel, as the only power as our master ruling the region.
"But Bush gave his stupid "Axis of Evil" speech"

It's so true. That bewildered little monkey is just peeing his pants to make his "we have nothing to fear, but fear itself" speech, even if he has to be "fear itself."

What can you expect from someone who must have decided at some point that it was OK to start a highwater-mark presidency by stealing the election? Well, we got it.
Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.  War is not the answer.  When will this contemptuous Administration wake up as well as the Democratic enablers?  I find this Administration as terrifying for our country and the world as any other terrorist group on the planet.
So tell me, if this administration decides to attack
Iran - who will be fighting?  It is my understanding that our armed forces are stretched to the limit.  Does this mean the great decider will have to reinstate the draft?  Perhaps that would be a good thing because maybe then the American voters will wake up and stop the madness.
Jake I voted twice for Senator Lieberman, I am and have always been A republican. However it is the Independants who have elected him not fringe groups. Former CT. resident now gladly living in a red state.
Sierra:The Taliban did not make its appearence in Afghanistan until the beginning of the 1993-1994 war against the Northern Alliance. The first official United States supporters of the Taliban were those in the Clinton administration after the 1995 fall of Kabul to the Taliban rebels. At the invitation of the State Dept.[Albright],several top Taliban members were invited to Washington in this year for trade discussions bearing upon a UNOCAL pipeline to be run through the Afghan north.[hence the Texas meeting between State Dept.officials,UNOCAL representatives,President Clinton[participating by videolink to the White House],and Taliban officials].
bin Laden never recieved either direct or indirect support by the then-Reagan administration during his brief period in Afghanistan.[bin Laden would leave this country in order to forment jihad in Yemen]. Declassified CIA documents bearing upon this period available through the National Archives, and the testimony of Usama bin Laden himself refute this. In point of fact, the vast majority of CIA support to the Afghan rebels [or Muhajedeen],went to General Ahmad Shah Massoud[or Massood],who was the commander of the Northern Alliance that later fought the Taliban and were our allies in going after bin Laden. Massoud would be later assassinated by either al Qaeda or Taliban fighters in 2002. Importantly,it should be observed here that the chief architect of the 1984 bill which would increase funding to the Afghan rebels, came from Democrat senator Paul Tsongas[with a GOP co-sponsor],supported by Democrat senator Charlie Wilson of Texas. Not Reagan.

Edwards and Dodd are right on, never have we had a President so quick to pull the trigger and put American lives on the line for unclear reasons, and never has Americas' credibility and allies been so low. I suggest Bush and his war mongering supporters be subjected to a mental evaluation , up to now the only one to accomplish his mission is Bin laden. Bin Laden and his few dozen renagades set out to kill and strike fear in the hearts of Americans, plus deal a devastating blow to Americas' economy, and President Bush has made his objective easier and more robust!
To Stein and New - You can fool some of the people all of the time, but peopel are waking up. Israel is not a democracy, but a theocracy without full rights for all; it is a religious state. Terrorism has been explained by the person above, any killing is wrong and even Sharon has stated he wouldn't live with the oppresiveness and in the brutal conditions the Palestians suffer. What Israel did with cluster bombs is terrorism; when they fire a rocket indiscriminately at crowded areas it is terrorism. All the Arab states have basically said they would recognize Israel, but Israel refuses to recognize Palestine. Do Jews discriminate; is the sun approximately 99 million miles away. As far as the homeland, weren't the people of Israel told to kill all men, women, and children and animals, and then burn everything by "God". Who do you believe made up this "God" to do such a thing. What does this "God" stand for. Love you neighbor and not kill, are these actual or are you kidding. A real "God" would not need sacrifices and killings!
Ron New Port Richey FL: '...Sierra learn your history before you comment the Taliban was not even an organization in the 80's....'

Thanks, Ron New Port Richey....
History is FUN !
This history is from Wikipedia
Have a read, Ron
(you might get educated)

'...The basis of the Taliban was provided when, in the early 1980s, the CIA and the ISI (Pakistan's Interservices Intelligence Agency) provided arms to any group resisting the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, and started the process of gathering radical Muslims from around the world to fight against the Soviets. Osama Bin Laden was one of the key players in organizing these U.S.-backed training camps for the Muslims. The U.S. poured funds and arms into Afghanistan and "by 1987, 65,000 tons of U.S.-made weapons and ammunition a year were entering the war"...'

Whaddya think, Ron ?
Just 'book learning' ?
Not enough 'truthiness' ?

Your friend, Sierra
avs - there's more people in prisons here than anywhere in the world;

And yet, Hillary isn't in prison.  Go figure.
What did I say about necons. They are conflating Al-Qaeda (who are the REAL enemies), Saddam Hussein, now its Achmedinejad (who is an elected figurehead) and Iran's army into one amorphous enemy. Invade them all...and while you are at it...destabalize Pakistan(dictator) and invade Syria b/c they have terrorst factions too. The heavy hammer strikes all..not just one. That's the crux of the problem with Bush and it threatens U.S. security and weakens our credibility which believe it or not is needed to fight REAL terrorists. Al-Qaeda is who are supposed to be after yet going to war with Iran is somehow justified by that? Bomb Iran...but tread carefully with Pakistan who harbors Bin Laden. Utter insanity.
Ken you are one of those who believes Bush abides by the opinions or actions of congress...I do not.
S.B. Stein E.B. NJ: '...To Sierra:
If you will note what you said about the Israelis, they attacked infastructure rather than the actual civilian population...'

Targeting civilian infrastructure violates the Geneve convention.
The Israelis targeted civilians with 'cluster bombs'.
This violates the Geneva Convention.
They actually embarrassed the Bush regime (tough to do) by using cluster bombs against civilians.

All sides have used 'terrorist tactics'
including the US

Ron New Port Richey; True enough the name Taliban didn't emerge until the 1990s.  During the 1980s they referred to themselves as the "Muhajadeen" and were funded by the Reagan administration.  At some point we need to recognize that our foreign policy has consisted of arming one future enemy after another ever since WWII.  Look how that's working for us.
[The last PBS "Front Line" report described how the Bush regime has been largely responsible for the radicalization of  the Iranian leadership.]

Sure.

Question.  Did Jimmy Carter's name come up during the show at any point?
I am looking for suggestions regarding grounds to impeach Mr Bush and Mr Cheney before the US gets sucked again into another improper and falsly justified war.
Thank you Lee you saved me from having to explain it to Sierra
