Thompson calls in to Laura Ingraham

Posted: Thursday, October 25, 2007 2:49 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC/NJ's Adam Aigner-Treworgy
While spending a few days in Alabama with his family celebrating his son Sammy’s first birthday, Thompson took time to call in to the conservative Laura Ingraham Show -- to talk about the GOP presidential race, Giuliani's lead in the national polls, and Rudy's record on illegal immigration.

“You’ve got various categories of people out there, so-called big shots, but you’ve got an awful lot of people out there, much greater numbers, who are just average folks,” Thompson said. “It seems to me, like in terms of the traditional GOP fundraisers, still quite a few of them are on the sidelines. I haven’t noticed a real rush to anybody, including Rudy. And as far as the national polls are concerned, I haven’t seen that he’s picking up much.”

A few days after rolling out his own anti-illegal immigration proposal, Thompson also kept up his criticisms of Giuliani on his support of illegal immigration while mayor of New York. “He said if you come here and work hard, and you happen in undocumented status, you’re one of the people that we want in this city, you’re somebody that we want to protect,” Thompson said. “So that pretty much gives you his thoughts on it. I don’t think he’s moved away from it to tell you the truth. He teamed up, apparently with MoveOn.org, under George Soros to oppose the anti-immigration forces, so-called, so I’m not sure what he would say about the future."

“You can often tell about the future, concerning someone’s policies, based on what they’ve done in the past, and he will equate New York and the rest of the country in many respects in terms of his qualifications, but I don’t know if in this respect he’ll just say, ‘Oh this is just one city, and this is just good for one city, and I thought then then, but I think this now,’ kind of like Mitt’s health-care plan.”

When Ingraham pointed out that Rudy was the only candidate left out of former White House aide Dan Bartlett’s critical comments about the GOP presidential candidates, Thompson shrugged off the importance of the White House’s support, if that’s what Bartlett’s comments meant. “That’s one group. Obviously, the truth is that’s a pretty big [group], if it is a group,” Thompson said. “But who are those people, the president himself or Dan himself personally? Or what? Who knows? It’s a big country full of a lot of people and White House support, if that’s what it turns out to be, that’d be significant to some people but this day and time I don’t know how significant. You just got to kind of pin your ears back and go forward.”

Going forward, according to Thompson, means “picking up the pace a bit” in Iowa and using that state’s caucuses as a launching pad. And instead of making excuses for why he hasn’t spent as much time in the Hawkeye State as some of his opponents have, Thompson pointed to his standing in the polls and used an example of an Iowa turnaround that has become a staple of his stump speech: John Kerry versus Howard Dean.

“You know, for the ranking that I have there compared to the time that I've had to spend there, you know, it’s really kind of remarkable,” Thompson said. “Everything’s a snap shot today. I’ve learned from Senate races that you’ve got to be able to project ahead and see how things are going to develop, especially in a place like Iowa [that] changes on a dime, can change on a dime. It changed for Howard Dean out there just in a matter of hours or days before their last race.”

Despite good reviews about his performance at the debate last weekend, apparently Thompson didn’t put the laziness issue to rest because as a final question Ingraham asked him about his laid-back campaign style. “I’m not rabid,” Thompson said. “I don’t jump up and down when I talk. I make my point, I move on, and I win elections.”

Josh. I do delieve that your the one who needs to do your research. Take a closer look at who suppoerted the NAFTA Act. Then take a look at who is bleeding us to death with social programs. Its still to early to determine who to vote for. The idea is to get some solid action from the people to question each candidate for real policy's not window dressing.
Here in Oregon we give out driver license's to pretty much anyone. And when you get a license, you are incouraged by the DMV as a matter of agency policy to register to vote. Since this state is also foolish by allowing vote by mail, and little or no proof that you are a US citizen to register to vote.....well, you wonder why we had terrorists trying to set up a training camp out here
Pedro, am i missing something?  Did not George W. Bush support sweeping immigration reforms that went against his conservative base?  He was defeated on this, he went to bat for you.  "W" is more of a moderate conservative, his father was even considered a liberal republican of sorts.  "W" did support backdoor amnesty.  He is not leading a conservative movement like Ronald Reagan.
All these talking points only point to one thing.  RON PAUL FOR PRESIDENT... google him, if unhappy with both democrats and republicans then consider a true constitutionalist who will reduce the government and TRULY PUT MORE MONEY (THAT EARNS MORE) INTO YOUR POCKET... TALK IS CHEAP... GOOGLE RON PAUL
In Oregon, all you need is a driver's license or a state issued I.D.
Gomez, OR (Sent Thursday, October 25, 2007 4:13 PM)

--- well I guess that is one way to eliminate the voter registration problem.  At least your ex-cons don't get disenfranchised. How can they tell if you are supposed to vote in the Democratic or Republican primary or is it an open primary?
I have owned my own business for 20 years-just 26 hard working creative, dedicated, loyal employees with lots of seniority who are well paid.  I work 6 days a week, 14 hours a day.  People like me are the backbone of the economy. By Rangel's or Hillary's standards I'm among the "wealthy".  I don't hire illegals and don't do business with any company who exports jobs, is controlled by a union or is not owned by an American citizen. If my taxes go up again or if I am forced to pay for healthcare thru a gov't program, mandatory family leave, etc., I will shut it down and just do what I can do on my own. There are millions of small business owners just like me so to those of you who think that the so called wealthy will continue in business to fund more government programs, you had better pay attention because you're not going to have jobs.
If Mitt Romney or Ron Paul is not nominated I will no longer support the Republican Party. If Dalton Thompson is nominated I will work against the party. This guy is more incompetent than our current president.
"Let's not forget that we, as a nation of consumers, need illegal immigrants to do the work that we, as a nation of make the most for the least amount of work, could not fathom doing.  I know it is unpopular to say it, but without those immigrant workers, table wine would cost $50 a bottle and most small restaurants couldn't function without the wait staff or cooking staff.
Dealio, San Diego's on Fire, CA"

Explain to me the different jobs on Dirty Jobs that Mike Rowe does. How many episodes, out of 150,showed the work being done by immigrants? Our country would adjust without them.I lived in another country as a legal immigrant, and guess what?I had to assimilate. They did not accomodate me,nor should they have had to.By not going after the landlords and employers, you are advocating a form of slavery.Any time the illegals try to complain about more pay,or safety, they are threatened with deportation,so they stay quiet and take it,thinking they have no choice.Safety standards and building codes and the like exist for a reason. For our health and safety.
What suprises me, is the lack of doing any sort of research into possible presidential candidates.  Our entire country was fooled by W.  Many of you have not learned your lesson yet, and are willing to be fooled again by the likes of Guiliani, Clinton, Thompson, Romney, and many of the others.  Oddly enough, Dennis Kucinich has been the most truthful of all the candidates, and has not left his "roots"  he says what he believes, and he votes the same way when it comes to the Congress he serves in.  I'm not republican, nor am I a democrat.  I am an independent.  I want a candidate that can articulate what he/she is going to do about the Iraq war, Iran, China, Healthcare, immigration.  I could give a flying rats butt about gay marriage, abortion, or any other faith based initiatives.  Its high time, the rest of you so called "partisans" began doing your homework, check the voting records of your favorite candidates, check what they've said, and when they've said it. Do the homework.  In today's world, I would say that Foreign policy issues, as well as some important home bound issues.  Corruption is rampant in our current system, so, to me, to correct this, we vote in someone that has ethics, and is not afraid to say what he really thinks.  Oddly, the crazy man kucinich, is probably the most honest of the entire bunch...at least so far, from the homework I've done.  To vote your religious fervor makes you no better than the islamo facists we are terrified of now.  Do your homework people. (ps.  I would put Ron Paul in there with Kucinich..he seems to speak his mind, and how he's voted in the past.)
I think "Elmer Fudd's" wife has convinced him that being president might be a lot of fun after all.
A few points -

1. From what I have witnessed, there are 'born in America' citizens working under the table to avoid paying taxes BUT the 'extra' money is almost exclusively spent on luxuries they cannot otherwise afford. Why can't we tax illegal immigrants at a higher tax rate to offset the free healthcare and education America offers them?
2. We know of citizens who hire illegals to perform manual labor jobs that 'LAZY' americans refuse to do. What happened to teaching our children principles of 'WORK HARD' to be at the level of prosperity you desire to be? I can remember babysitting, weed pulling, and grass cutting at 12 years old to earn spending money!
3. I recall GWB informing ALL the canidates to be cautious in their responses to the critical issues due to the fact they do not have 'full disclosure' of what the facts are. Seems to me Fred Thompson is heeding Wiser Men's words.
4. When an individual is in a 'financial bind', doesn't financial planners/economists direct them to 'control spending' and 'maintain a budget'? Increasing taxes on the rich and middle class is NOT the answer to this country's deficit. Stop spending money on such things as a grant to a university to find out 'Why People Have Sex'
(http://www.bbsonline.org/Preprints/OldArchive/bbs.gangestad.html)and maybe America could afford to pay it's debts! Seems like I have heard of a certain sherriff that took control and has prisoners working at animal shelters (another job americans are not willing to do for pay) to cut local spending and makes them pay for their meals while serving their time.
5. Our country's Constitution and Bill of Rights was written to allow individual states to govern themselves to prevent the preverbial 'big government' syndrome - which I feel IS, in fact, the present federal government. It has been said numberous times before but bears repeating: READ THE CONSTITUTION!
6. Last time I checked, in order to be issued a state driver's license, you had to present at LEAST 2 forms of I.D. proving your legal name and residency. Wouldn't a national data base linking states citizen information solve some of the issues of 'falsified documentation'? And please, don't give me the arguement that it is 'not possible to link all the states'(internet) or 'we cannot count everyone'(census) or 'an invasion of privacy'(homeland security).
Who cares is Fred Thompson or even RONALD REAGAN himself comes fromt the grave to win the election.  Second,
Mitt Romney is the obvious choice the RNC is wanting to win the nomination.  He's more a sheep than a shepperd. This is why he lead the straw poll in IOWA!
Third our country, the United States Of America was founded on Legal and Illegal Immigration. GOP's read your previous census facts.
Fourth, your fellow Republican President George W. Bush signed into law, the Amero Union, part of NAFTA Act.  Which in the very soon future will vanquish the need for State I.D.'s. And given the truck for illegal mexican truck drivers driving accross the US. Dont believe then look into it!
I hate when ignorat Right-winger throw out the word "LIBERAL".  HELL YEAH IM A LIBERAL, I AM A LIBERAL AS BOSTON TEA PARTY, STARTED THE REVOLUTION, AS LIBERAL AS ABRAHAM LINCOLN WANTED TO BEAT SLAVERY, AS LIBERAL AS MY COUNTRY THE USA KICK BUTT IN WWII.
I agree if you are here legal or illegal,BECOME A CITIZEN, LEARN ENGLISH AND PAY TAXES!! THATS A TRUE LIBERAL THOUGHT PROCESS!!
Look into the NAFTA Act, and the rights it gives to illegals.

We have very little water supply left in N.C. I can imagine if we had another million people we would be out completely. This is just one of many scenarios that would unfold if trends continue to go in the direction they are being allowed. Imagine millions of desperate poor people running around scraping any resources needed for the survival of their families by any means necessary. The National Guard and the rest of the military would be insufficient in such a vast country just as they are in Iraq, especially in our well armed society.
Mark D, Salem, OR,  you must live in a differernt OR than Gomez. In his OR, all you need is a driver's license to vote.
Rudy never promises to seal the border or to deport the illegals here. He is supported by the White House. Why? He is with the neo cons and supports amnesty.

The only candiates that say they will seal the borders and deport, what all polls show Americans want are Fred, Hunter and Tancredo. A vote for anyone else is a vote for open borders and a dissolution of America into a North American Union.

Why is it illegal for an American to find out from the Social Security Administration whether their OWN or their children’s Social Security Number is being used by someone else?

If all Americans could, as a preventive measure, periodically check their SSN, not just after they have discovered their credit has been ruined, and they have been stuck with illegals bills, and taxes, and have lost some of their own SS benefits, then:

1. Americans could proactively protect their and their kids' credit and finances from identify theft.
2. Illegals would be quickly discovered, and could be prosecuted and deported by ICE.
3. Most of the alleged mistakes in the SSN database would soon be corrected.
4. There would be far fewer "mismatch" letters for business to deal with.
5. For those SSNs that are fictitious, SSA could be held accountable for advising ICE, again reducing the burden on business.

Easy. But dishonest business wants taxpayer subsidized cheap labor, and politicians want the business PAC money. So Americans have to raise the roof and get this authority. Call your Senators, Congressmen and even state reps and DEMAND a change in the law!
Isn't our own SSN ours?

Join the the true American Senators to halt the travesty of our Immigration laws called "Sanctuary Cities." Alert! HR 3531 would deny funds to sanctuary cities if the bill passes.

After reading these comments it makes me happy to see how much of America recognizes the drain that illegal immigration imposes on our economy, culture, security, and even our sovereignty.  Now, if only the politicians would recognize it.  Say what you want about Thompson, but he is one of the VERY few that are actually representing the will of the people when it comes to illegal immigration!

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY  June 28, 2004), speaking at a Democratic party fundraiser in San Francisco yesterday, was remarkably frank about the Democrats' intentions to use socialist redistribution policies if the party gains power after the November elections.   As reported by the Associated Press, Sen. Clinton said, "Many of you are well enough off that ... the tax cuts may have helped you. We're saying that for America to get back on track, we're probably going to cut that short and not give it to you. We're going to take things away from you on behalf of the common good."

CLINTON AND OBAMA APPEAL TO "THE RACE":
Leading Democratic presidential contenders Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY)
and Barack Obama (D-IL) addressed the national convention of the
National Council of La Raza (NCLR) in Miami. The NCLR through the years has opposed virtually all measures to control illegal immigration.
La Raza" means "the race."
Both candidates promised as president to support "comprehensive immigration reform," a phrase meaning legal status (amnesty) for illegal aliens. One of Clinton's campaign chairs is RAUL YZAGUIRRE, the previous PRESIDENT OF NCLR. She told the convention that limited amnesty bills might still pass Congress this year.
Obama related that he marched with ILLEGAL ALIENS and their supporters last year to protest legislation to crack down on illegal immigration. Source: (CBS4) Miami Beach 7/22/07
