Paul’s ad push

Posted: Friday, October 26, 2007 11:58 AM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC’s Domenico Montanaro
On the heels of a St. Anselm College poll showing Ron Paul in fourth place with 7 percent in New Hampshire, the candidate is starting to spend some of those millions he’s raised with radio ads and an upcoming TV ad. But Paul is also stepping up efforts in direct mail. The campaign put together a 12-page biographical pamphlet being mailed out in New Hampshire.

The New Hampshire Presidential Watch blog reports, “The mailing comes at the same time that Ron Paul will spend $1 million on five New Hampshire television commercials.”

Paul has also spent $430,000 on a new radio ad, which will run in New Hampshire, Iowa, South Carolina and Nevada. The 60-second ad, an appeal to New Hampshire independents, mentions Paul’s name 11 times and focuses on conservative principles of spending, foreign policy and taxes and mentions “flip-flopping” Republicans and Bill Clinton.

The campaign had an online fund-raising push to try and pay for the ad. This from a Paul blog post on Tuesday and its Fundraising Director Jonathan Bydlak: “You raised $403,059.21 during the last three days for broadcasting our new radio ad in New Hampshire, Iowa, South Carolina and Nevada. Thank you! This set an impressive pace, and keeps us well on our way to our fourth quarter goal of $12,000,000!”

$12 million? This quarter? Now that would be something. Bet Huckabee wishes he could tap into some of that?

Ron Paul raised more money than he spent on the campaign. Many of the candidates, Republican or Democrat, spend more than they raised, some are even in debt. I wonder if they can not run a fiscally resopnsible campaign, how can we believe that they will run a country in a different way, not to mention we are heavily in debt now.

Remember, Remember, the 5th of November! Lets take back America!
I hope he doesn't forget to impeach Dick Cheney.
Go Ron Paul!  I've never subscribed to choosing the lesser of two evils and have therefore never voted.  Now, at age 34, there's finally a candidate worth my vote.  (My apologies to my fellow Americans for not voting in the past.  I just can't choose between 2 evils, it makes no sense.)  People can steal my Ron Paul signs off my property, they can deface my literature and bumper stickers, call me names, etc.  They can't steal my vote or my support.

It's reports like these that disprove the idea that the "mainstream media" is complicit to some sort of anti-Paul conspiracy.

Thanks so much, Mr. Montanaro. I look forward to reading more about this fascinating grass-roots phenomenon that has swept the country.

jerry, I think you may have called this one.
As for VP, I don't know all that much about Mark Sanford but I've heard his name brought up a lot. Recently I've also seen some mention of Andrew Napolitano (there's a speech he gave somewhere out there on YouTube that's absolutely amazing). Just imagine the look on Hannity's face if a Fox News analyst (don't hold it against him) was on the Paul ticket. Hypothetically, I'd rather see him as AG or on the Supreme Court, but I do agree he'd make a fantastic VP as well.
Paul is in the largest House Region in Texas and has now won 10 terms.  This number alone speaks volumes about his credibility and viability as a candidate if he could get the name recognition and media attention the other frontrunners enjoy.
A republican by any other name is still a
republican  - vote democratic and save America!!!
In reading your many banal posts, I have to say that you,  "jerry/corpus christi texas", are quite intellectually incurious. Your disdain for Ron Paul reveals that you, in fact, are not well versed in either political philosophy or practical politics. By your line of thought, Pat Buchanan would be a "liberal." Americans like yourself that masquerade under the conservative banner have really created havoc and butchered its true meaning. To clarify, conservatism is not defined by rabid militarism, a beer gut, and defiant and proud ignorance. The candidates you support only promote and advance the ongoing illegal alien invasion, gun control, high taxation, social entitlements, and big government. Tell us, sir, in factual detail the way in which this agenda fits into conservative practice.

In truth, Ron Paul is the only candidate urging a platform that our Founding Fathers would recognize as consistent with the constitutionally limited, federated, free republic they established.

In any event, this ad blitz should have a substantive effect. Ron Paul is already in third place among Republicans...

Chuck Hagel-R from Nebraska for VP!
If Ron Paul could get one-tenth the fawning media coverage that Giuliani, Thompson, McCain, Romney and Huckabee have gotten, he would be far in the lead.

Instead the media has ridiculed him, labeled him a "long-shot," and tried to pretend he doesn't exist.

You all are in for a major paradigm shift.  Ron Paul is going to be the 44th president of the United States, and future generations will mention his name in the same breath as Washington, Jefferson, and Jackson.
Thanks MSNBC!  Jerry's right, there will by 800 posts for RP.  There are masses of us who are hungry for change. Dr. Paul has finally brought hope to many from all walks of life, all parties, and all races. The revolution has begun.
People need to donate as much hey can, Ron needs all the help he can get. Remember, if you don't donate, inflation and taxes will take the money anyway. We have the message, and Ron has the best voting record ever, so now we need the name recognition.
I wonder if Ron Paul tabbed Walter Williams as his VP if the neo-nazis and KKK would withdraw their support (not a bad thing if you ask me). A black VP would even trump Hillary's blackspeak she uses when she speaks in front of black audiences that no one buys for a second as genuine.
"Dream on...the last thing this nation needs is another senile old republican in the white house.."

Yet another example of someone who can't see past the label and understand what the candidate truly stands for.

It's guys like this that are causing the downfall of America.
why must we mention huckabee? Is the MSM that obsessed with him that they can't even right a paul article with giving him a shout out?

GOOGLE: this november 5th RON PAUL

It will make history.
MSNBC,

Thank you so much for your great story on Dr. Ron Paul.  I always love to hear how he is doing.

I am a career Naval officer who has been politically neutral for my entire life, but voting for Ron Paul is about voting for America and our Constitution, which I took an oath to preserve!  I am now supporting Ron Paul with my wallet--and my heart.
Ron Paul is setting the standerd - he has 100% of my devotion
Ron Paul America's best hope to restore the Constitution. Go Paul
Ron Paul's VP choice will very likely be South Caroline Gov. Mark Sanford.

The two served several House terms together, are friends, and are ideologically very close.
What Would Ron Paul Do?

http://www.WWRPD.org
Thank you for posting this MSNBC, Got to say Paul has caught my attention, I've been voting democratic all my life, this is the only man that could pull me torwards the republican party..

I wish they would give him the nom., a pro-war candidate is unelectable this election and given the top tier democrats have folded on the Iraq issue now maybe even Iran.. Paul is a breath of fresh air!

Domenico, I don't know if you support Ron Paul or not, but you are my new hero at MSNBC. I can always count on you to provide readers with fair coverage of Ron Paul. I am so glad to see a new face with a fresh perspective -- whatever that perspective may be. Wait, I know: it's called journalistic integrity, something some of the Politico/First Read people like Chuck Todd & Co., who love to slam Ron Paul, should really look into. Thank you for being one of the first journalists in the mainstream media I have seen who not only treats Ron Paul fairly, but has been taking consistent notice of him. You've got a new fan in NYC.
If you look at the stats on Meetup for Ron Paul, it is clear that he has more than 60,000 supporters. These are just the people who bother to join a group. These are the most enthusiastic volunteers. This does not count people like my husband, who supports Ron Paul, talks to others about Ron Paul, but does not want to join a group. How many others are there who are undeclared Ron Paul people? So the post that admonishes us couple thousand to give it up and go home is disingenious at best. This is our last chance to save our Republic. Ron Paul: Hope for America. Hope for the World. You should drop by dailypaul.com and read the messages from foreigners who wish they could be American just to support Dr. Paul!
In a world of self-serving stooges of the military industrial complex (aka politicians), Ron Paul stands apart as a humble and kind philosopher who deeply loves this country and cherishes the values this great state was founded on, and as someone who lived upto his professed ideals.

The likes of Giuliany taking potshots at Dr.Ron Paul in the GoP debate was downright comical. Even some of the mainstream media pundits who are trying to pat the back of Dr. Paul come across as midgets trying to pat the back of a giant.

This country is in a mess, caused in great part by the citizenry getting so comfortable in their prosperity that the forgot what it means to be vigilant.

But this country is a great nation for a reason. When someone like Dr.Ron Paul stands up, we will eventually  sit up and take note.

Someone once said that Americans will always do the right thing, after trying everything else. Well, we already tried everything else. So time to do the right thing.

Dr.Ron Paul for president...
I am tired of the democrats and the republicans.  They seem to be one and the same on the need to stay in Iraq.  They seem to be one and the same on their loyalty to Corporate America.  Neither one seems to be for the working people. I like Ron Paul because he speaks sense and doesn't care if the other republicans like what he says or not.  He doesn't care if the democrats like it either.  He just speaks the truth about the Constitution needing to be followed and about the shape our country is in because of Iraq and corporate control of our government.  He's my choice for president.  And I'm no republican.  I'm not a democrat anymore either.  Call me independent.
I really don't understand why anyone could NOT support Ron Paul. Are you people content with the direction this country has taken? Do you realize that a vote for Giuliani/Clinton/Romney or any other cookie cutter candidate is a vote to remain on the same path? I am sick and tired of these war mongering Neo-Cons bankrupting this country while telling me I'm supposed to be afraid of tiny third-world countries, and I'm tired of the Democrats wasting their time trying to pass this SCHIP crap instead of doing what they were elected to do...END THE WAR. You people need to wake up. Ron Paul is the only sensible solution to the mess we have gotten ourselves into. Most of our allies hate us now. Our currency is worth 4 cents compared to what it was 100 years ago. We owe billions of dollars to the Chinese. I could go on and on. Is this the America you want your children to inherit? Sorry for the rant, I'm done now. :)
Dr. Ron Paul cured my hopelessness.
I look forward to voting Ron Paul in 2008-!
Yeah, RP does'nt have a chance, but neither did Jesus Christ or Seabiscut
Re: the Nov. 5th concern:

Let them report that we missed our $4M goal and got $3M instead.  That's amazing news compared to the others.  The corporate donors have blown their wad for now...they will wait until their is a true front runner to back.

That leaves the only momentum to Paul.

Can I have a "yeehaaw!"  Let's go get'm.

Nov. 5th and any time in between.  Let's buy this country back!
Thank you for the shred of true coverage. I believe the truth in the scales will tip rather quickly. Ron Paul has much more support than those behind the walls would like to admit. His message is clean and he has an answer for every hard question.
Obama or Paul.
I wish I could vote in NH, but I'll have to wait for Super Tuesday in Pennsylvania.  I'm absolutely 'in' for November 5th!  That will amplify our message way beyond our puny little budgets.  Main stream Media has underestimated Ron Paul for so long which has been a huge advantage--think viral marketing(all your base are belong to us)!!  That is what every big company would like to be able to harness.  This is an ADVANTAGE---so go out and talk to people!  And now, with that huge following of fanatically dedicated volunteers in place, it is time move into media coverage.  What Ron Paul has today is both Hillary's dream and her nightmare.  Her dream because you can't artificially create such a movement---her nightmare because you also can't control it. Ron Paul's campaign is surprised all the time by positives like airplane banners, fund raising movements--the money bomb last week, but also by not-so-positives, like racist or other politically incorrect supporters.  But it really has had the effect of making the media underestimate him.  This will change.
it is as if the sea has parted and Dr. Paul is going to show us the way. You must be brain dead not to vote for anyone else
How brilliant it is to see so many people waking up to recognise there actually is a Presidential candidate worthy of our support. Ron Paul is that candidate and he presents extraordinary opportunity to wind back the influence of the military industrial complex that threatens the very existence of our nation state. Time is of essence and we all need to vigorously embrace this opportunity to restore the liberty and sovereign rights of the individual before it is too late.
Ron Paul for President.
Dr. Paul runs for We the People. He treated poor patients for free rather than take Medicare payments.

He returns political contributions received from corporations! His average donation is $40 per person. He raised $5 million in Q3 and is on tract to raise $3 million in October.

He declined his very lucrative Congressional pension, because he does not believe he has a right to grab part of your paycheck and you have no obligation to take care of his retirement. In 30 years he has never taken a single political junket. He has never done a single deal with a special interest group or corporation.

He will allow young people to opt out of Social Security. He knows young people will never enjoy the benefits of Social Security, so why tax them?

Now, here’s an honest politician with integrity. He is the lone Republican who opposed the war, when it was still only on the White House agenda, long before 9/11. He will bring our troops home and end the suffering in Iraq. A vote for Ron Paul will restore our image abroad.

His record takes one’s breath away. For thirty years he cast every one of his votes strictly in accordance with the Constitution.

Don’t think Republican vs Democrat. Think honesty, integrity, my future, my children’s future vs. political graft, special interests, lobbyists, $9 trillion Federal debt, incurring $500 billion in interest annually. The Iraq war will add another $2.4 trillion. It’s like light vs darkness. It’s an easy choice. Vote Ron Paul, it will change the country for ever, for the better.
Ron Paul + Goldwater:
"In your heart, you know they're right"
If Ron Paul wasn't so popular, why the hell are even the Ron Paul haters out in full force?
I'm still laughing at all the positive tax hike Mike Huckabee is getting, he "singlehandedly destroyed the conservative movement in Arkansas"

Walter Williams or Goldwater Jr. for VP
When Ron Paul wins the nomination, I would like to nominate Lou Dobbs as his Vice President!
It's funny how many of us Ron Paul supporters have been described as "wearing tin-foil hats", or how Ron Paul is called "crazy"...

...but the people who are lying us into wars, assaulting the Bill of Rights, destroying the dollar, and keeping a NUCLEAR FIRST STRIKE against Iran "on the table" (yes, you Hillary) are the "serious leaders" we're supposed to respect.

Any candidate who DOESN'T talk about monetary policy or the lunacy of trying to maintain a global military empire is not worth listening to.  The other candidates talk about band-aid solutions to numerous problems, while Dr. Paul is seeking to cure the underlying disease.  Whether it's affordable health care, the gap between rich and poor, crime, terrorism, civil liberties, or a thousand other issues, the destruction of our currency by the Federal Reserve/Congress/M.I.C. and the lust for empire is at the heart of it all.
Don't you people get it!  America is driven by the ELITE and POWERFUL, not by the idealistic and practical.  This looks like a Wesley Clark grass roots blog which was equally delusional.  Nobody on this blog really has a say in this matter.  Why?  Because you don't have enough money and hence not enough influence.  Opinions make a great sound bite but that's all the bite they will ever have.  The people who really run this country will not let Ron Paul be the next President.  The naiveness of the simple voter that thinks they can "make a difference" is disturbingly unrealistic.

Bank on this:  Rudy vs Hillary

Pick your poison.  And Repubs get yourselves a new definition of "liberal" because win or lose...YOU GOT ONE.

Fascism, Socialism, or FREEDOM!!!! I'll take freedom. I'll take Dr. Ron Paul. He cured my apathy. Register Republican TODAY and vote for RP in the primaries. Don't let the msm choose your candidate for you. WWW.RONPAUL2008.com
Ron Paul's campaign team is small but they are smart.  Its just like any story about a smaller opponent against a bigger one.  You just need to be flexible and agile, while the bigger opponent is lumbering and slow.  A quick look at relief effort is a good analogy.  FEMA is a huge waste of money and when they come in to help out in a disaster they're usually slow and very ineffective.  The real help comes from spontaneous volunteers on the ground who are compassionate and not tied up by bureaucratic red tape.
If a 72 year-old doctor from Texas can get so many people excited he must have a great message! It shows people are tired of politics as usual. Tired of the politicans using scare tactics to get elected. Tired of politicians flip flopping on issues to get elected. Tired of the politicians' lies. Ron Paul is honest and speaks the truth. What a concept.
I'd take Dennis Kucinich for VP not just one but two honest people in the white house.
I haven't made up my mind yet on RP, but with all the millions of people supporting him , I guess hes worth looking into.  I hear allot that [people that support Ron Paul are crazies and loony, frankly It kinda scares the crap out of me when i see the media try and spin off his supporters like that, kind alike ww2 Germany don't ya think?
I am Ron Paul's age, and it's been a long time since we have heard anyone running for president that makes any sense. Ron Paul is just what this country needs right now, before we destroy ourselves financially, morally & become a Fascist state.
