2-man race: Rudy v. the conservative?

Posted: Friday, October 26, 2007 1:33 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC/NJ's Erin McPike
POLK COUNTY, Iowa – Romney this morning suggested that he believes the GOP primary is going to come down to Giuliani and a more conservative candidate.

“I think it's going to come down to two folks in my view if you look at what's happening with the nomination on our side,” he said of the Republican primary race this morning in an answer to a woman, who said she had left the GOP and asked what the Republicans can do to appeal to a broader range of voters. “And one of the two is going to be somebody who has adopted social issues that are far more like Sen. Clinton's. And someone who is in favor of or who has fought the line-item veto all the way to the Supreme Court." He added, "I don't think that's the right course for our party. It might help us do better in states where we might lose by a smaller margin. But we would still lose.”

Later with reporters, he backed off a little on insinuating that he sees the race as a two-man contest between him and Giuliani. He said he hopes he becomes the choice of the Reagan coalition -- the alternative to Giuliani. He pointed out that he has raised $5 million more than Giuliani, but his campaign later said it was closer to $3 million in primary dollars.

At the town hall, he also went into further detail on his aggressive stance on Iran, bringing up the back-and-forth in the Democratic race as a selling point for his own position. “I listened to both John Edwards and Barack Obama, and they were critical of Hillary Clinton, because she voted along with the rest of the Senate to sanction Iran with economic sanctions," he said. "Do the Democrats not understand that Iran becoming a nuclear nation. And Iran and Ahmadinejad, who call for the destruction of us and of Israel, who talk about genocide and are moving headlong into technology that could carry out genocide, that it’s not appropriate to sanction these people?” he asked. “I find it extraordinary.”

An older voter asked Romney what he thought about getting College Republicans together for a Halloween event on the influence of Hollywood on politics. “That’s a great idea. What do you think about ‘Hillary’s House of Horrors.’?” He gave a list of what he would like in such a house and added, “What the Democrats are selling is quite frightening as we approach Halloween.”

The only vision Romney has is him as President.
Two stellar nominees for the Republicans: a flip-flopper and a fascist.  Looking at the choices from both parties, I'd have to say that we should downsize government, and eliminate the position of president entirely.  In short, at this point it seems that anyone who wants to be president is fundamentally unqualified for the job.
If Native Americans and Latinos vote for Romney, will their skin be turned white as a reward, as the Book of Mormon still teaches?

Racism by any other name is still racism.
Mitt Romney ran a huge corporation, he ran the U.S. Olympics, He ran an entire State (that was 80% democrat)....what makes anyone think that he's NOT qualified to be our next PRESIDENT? What has Hillary ever run, besides a washing machine...?
I suprised Hillary even finds her way to anything.  She is about the most retarded person in the race.  If she can't control her husband, how can she control a country.  Mitt Romney (the "smug" guy) was voted into office as govenor in a SOCIALIST state.  Not only that, but they LIKED him.  Mitt has done something no democrat has done to this point, take a stance and STICK TO IT.
The most probable democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, as president will raise tax and will continue the commitment in Iraq. The republican winner may be Mitt Romney and as president he will not touch the current tax rates, but he will be dedicated to the Middle East war.
So who would be the most logical candidate?
Of course Ron Paul ( as an independent? )
Mitt will find out who the real two front runners are when the primarys start, the stupid media can call him and Rudy front runners if they want to, but the voters will say something else after the first or
second primary, then the media will want to suck Mike or Ron's A--.  PS those stupid Republicans and Democrats that voted for the Mexican Dream Act S-2205
will be remembered.   Mr. Lugar that means you
He is not running for office while serving in office, which shows integrity in my book, because people already in political positions have to be "stealing" time and money from their own constituents to be running for another office at the same time.
Mr. Romney changed his opinions once.  That is a change that came from an increase in knowledge and understanding.  In my opinion, no one has been able to show that he has "really" been flip-flopping.
He has done a great number of things on his own, starting his own business, operating it efficiently and profitably and creating his own honestly gained wealth.
He saved the Olympics in Salt Lake City from financial disaster, with little monetary return (accepting only a $1.00 salary until they started to show a profit which is leadership by example)
Strong and good family values, exemplified further in his children.
If you lived in MA, politically he worked very hard to bring everyone together to accomplish needed change, so he was willing to comprimise on some things when necessary for the better good of the many.
He is not a politician that needs the money of special interest groups, as also shown by his willingness to invest large amounts of his own money in his campaign.
Always look at the person and their character- he is a very good choice for President of the United States of America.

Don't know who I will vote for yet but it sure as H*** is not going to be Hillary. She is not a Socialist SHE IS a Communist. All of what she said she was going to do if elected President is strickly down the Communistic beliefs.
What about the Conservative candidate, Fred Thompson, you guys?
Guiliani will win. Romney will be the Vice President. Case closed.
How about Romney wants to double the size of Guantanimo. Illegal torture chambers and he's going to double the size. Or maybe a PRE_EMTIVE nuclear strike is troubling. Or the, we need another 100,000 troops to deal with the middle east ?? Why and how are we going to pay for it. And me I want to hear about repealing the patriot act and patriot act II if some one wants  my vote Ann mI really do not think more war, bigger military so we can have more war and some more war is really going to sell.
Pot Smokers United. That should be the official name of Ron Paul crusade.

BREAKING NEWS: Ron Paul will begin to turn this thing inside out and up-side down when he wins the New Hampshire primary. Everybody is looking left and he's comin' in with a strong right hook. They will never see it coming. There will be many stunned onlookers come DEC 11.
of course when kerry switched positions he was a "flip-flopper". why am i not surprised that conservatives now support flip-flopping.
From Canada, President Romney has a nice ring to it ftom the Canadian Perspective.
Romney has the vision, the experience, and the sense to run the United States America. he will reste this country and its image

You all missed the train as far as I am concerned. there is only one man to lead our country out of this mess and that is John McCain. All the other candidates are trying to buy the Oval Office, John is the Linclon of our time. He is the one that believes in  "Of the People, For the People and By the People". He is a man of his word, why don't some of you listen to him?  Or do you like to listen to what the  "rich" promise that they will do for you? John McCain believes in America as a country of free people, living together as a proud people. I have lived through elections for over 50 years now and I am sickened at the political scene portrayed by our "leaders".  I want to be safe and secure in my home, money is necessary to live, YES, but my life is more important. My brothers fought and died for that.  I do not want an Muslim nation to take that away from me. I am a Christian and an American and I refuse to part with either of those two beliefs.
Romney is the "false prophet" spoken of in the Book of Revelations.
Associated press releases story where Federal
Judge; Justice Dept silence aided fraud , in Delaware Bankruptcy courts.

A law firm in Delaware that has admitted to filing false affidavits in eToys, Morris Nichols (MNAT) has not been prosecuted for the $300 million in fraud issues therein.  MNAT represented eToys while it negotiated the sale of eToys assets to Bain for discounts in the tens of millions.  Bain was owned and controlled by Mitt Romney at the time.
In 2001, a law firm partner at MNAT became a US Attorney.  Colm F Connolly has not  prosecuted to case after having the proofs of over $300 million in fraud for several years.
Now Colm F Connolly is being promoted to a Federal District Court Judgeship.
Seems to be a good career move to avoid prosecuting your partners and former firm clients issues.
Wonder what will happen now that they are Caught!
