Kucinich tees off on Dems

Posted: Friday, October 26, 2007 5:52 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC’s Andy Merten
While in Concord earlier today to file for the New Hampshire primary, Kucinich used his moment with the press to come out harshly against his party’s top-tier presidential contenders’ policies towards Iraq, and also leveled some heavy criticism towards what he perceives to be pending military action toward Iran.

After filling out his primary registration paperwork, the Ohio congressman switched gears to campaign mode, listing off the flaws of Clinton, Edwards and Obama’s voting records on the Iraq War. On Obama: “I’m glad that he gave a speech where he said that he opposed the war. He got elected to the Senate -- what did he do? He voted over and over again to fund the war. He cannot square that, and he’ll never be able to square it.”

He then went on to address Clinton and Edwards. Regarding the New York senator, he said, “She voted a 100 percent of the time to fund the war, except for the last vote we had -- as the clock ran out, both she and Senator Obama, for the first time, decided to vote against funding.” And he dismissed Edwards’ repeated apologies for voting for the 2002 war authorization, saying, “Apologies are a little bit late when you’ve got dead bodies all over the field.”

Going on to frame his argument within the context of the general election, Kucinich asserted that nominating any one of the three would effectively blur any lines between Republicans and Democrats regarding foreign policy in November of next year. “What happens if the Democrats chose someone who is for the war,” Kucinich said, “who voted to fund the war, and who has taken positions that say of Iran, all options are on the table? Where’s the debate between that candidate and let’s say, Mayor Giuliani?”

Kucinich, who has long advocated the creation of a federal Department of Peace, offered even more dramatic rhetoric regarding mounting tensions with Iran. “The Bush Administration is talking about dropping 30,000-pound bombs on nuclear facilities” in Iran, Kucinich said, adding, “You’re talking about an inevitable nuclear release, that will affect potentially millions of people.”

After filing in New Hampshire today, Kucinich will head to Florida for the weekend to address the state’s Democratic Party. He will be the only of the eight Democratic presidential contenders at the event.

***CORRECTION*** Kucinich will NOT be in Florida. He will be in Dearnborn, Michigan.

Who says Clinton, Obama, and Edward are'top tier'? Did I miss an election?
It's hard to argue with his criticism.
Actually, my Congresswoman, Nancy Pelosi has been a disappointment, too.

I had high hopes for her...
Good - the Dems really aren't any better than the Cons, except Ron Paul.
Denis is right.  But I would cut Edwards some slack.  A sincere convert can be more zealous than a long term believer.
Go Kucinich, it's too bad he's not gaining traction, I like him and Paul both.. Edwards is at least better then Hillary and Obama... even though I don't like him

Obama turned out to be such a fraud

This was posted earlier: what a FRAUD! NOT MENTION HE SUPPORTS THE PATRIOT ACT AS WELL

From NBC's Mark Murray
We referred to it in First Thoughts, but we didn't post it last night (since we had left the office when it came out), but here is the entire Clinton memo responding to the earlier Obama missive.

RE:       Obama vs. Obama: The Real Differences on Iran

Who said this?

“Such a reduced but active presence will also send a clear message to hostile countries like Iran and Syria that we intend to remain a key player in this region.”  Later in the same speech, he said:  “Make no mistake, if the Iranians and Syrians think they can use Iraq as another Afghanistan or a staging area from which to attack Israel or other countries, they are badly mistaken. It is in our national interest to prevent this from happening.”

George Bush?  Nope.

The latest from Dick Cheney? Guess again.

Language from Kyl-Lieberman?  Sorry.

That was Senator Obama in late 2006 making the case for why maintaining a military force in Iraq is necessary to constrain Iran's ambitions.  But that was then.

This is now: Stagnant in the polls and struggling to revive his once-buoyant campaign, Senator Obama has abandoned the politics of hope and embarked on a journey in search of a campaign issue to use against Senator Clinton.  Nevermind that he made the very argument he is now criticizing back in November 2006.  Nevermind that he co-sponsored a bill designating the Iranian Revolutionary Guard a global terrorist group back in April.  Nevermind that his colleague from Illinois – Dick Durbin – voted the same way as Senator Clinton on Kyl-Lieberman and said “If I thought there was any way it could be used as a pretense to launch an invasion of Iran I would have voted no.”

Today, in order to justify his opposition to Kyl-Lieberman, Senator Obama says that such language is bellicose and gives the President a blank check to take the country to war.

But if Senator Obama really believed this measure gave the President a blank check for war, shouldn’t he have been in the Senate on the day of the vote, speaking out, and fighting against it?  Instead he did nothing, remained totally silent, skipped the vote and spoke out only after the vote to engage in false attacks against Senator Clinton.  A Washington Post editorial summed it up best: “Now, trailing in the polls and sensing a political opportunity, Mr. Obama is trying to portray Ms. Clinton as a reckless saber-rattler. That is irresponsible and -- given the ease with which the charge can be rebutted -- probably naive, as well.”

Someone, pls tell D Kucinich(D-Ohio) that Mayor Coleman of Columbus,Ohio has endorsed B Obama today.

Who is Dennis Kucinich?
Dennis needs a bigger soapbox than most. He is not very effervesent
It may be a new year but it's the same old Dennis Kucinich. With friends like him, do the Democrats really need enemies? No-chance candidates like Kucinich and Lieberman campaigned so heavily against the '04 Dem-frontrunners that the party was forced to settle for Kerry. Dean and the leaders of the Democratic party need to remind all of the candidates of whom their enemies really are.
No, you didn't miss an election but if you don't think those three are clearly in the "top tier" then you haven't been paying attention thus far.
AIPAC must want this one really bad!
obama for ditch digger --
obama mama - thought dat was a bacardi drink --
I guess the American People decided four years ago what they were thinking about Dennis K and his prospect of becoming President. Why is he waisting his (and our) time again? Go home Dennis.
Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul make strange bedfellows.
Kucinich is the smartest, most qualified, of all the Presidential Candidates of all Parties. Unfortunately, he is physically short, which makes him unelectable in American Politics. Listen to him talk, and you will hear REAL Political Intelligence. When the DEMS Win in 2008, he will be one of the Major Cabinet Members.
When it comes to make decision about choosing people for a job, choose who that have the best judgment ability. Look at their life history and important judgments that they did before. Don't fool by listening their lies or claims about their current abilities or what they promise to do in the future. Choose people by their last proven actions not their promises for the future.

Clinton is a good actress that want to look very smart, but she is not, she grown as a modern girl of America that knows very well how to sell her femininity. She is a good listener to her advisers, but unfortunately most of them works to Israel lobby groups. She don't care about America, but she cares about her popularity.

Obama is a youth man, most similar to Ahmadinejhad that he has some dreams in his mind, but he did not understand how to reach them. Having good dreams is good, but is not enough. A leader needs more. He must be able to understand the current situation of the society, then he must be able to figure out a better one, with only very minor changes, then he must be able to offer a migration plan from current situation to the next step, he must be careful to don't change paradigms, they need more time, but he must have enough courage to accept risks. Then, the true leadership starts, he needs to know how to organize national assets, organizations, companies, and other resources to act toward his targets. He needs to be able to recognize people, and assign them what they do best, he need to be able to trust people but at the same time oversee them, he need to be able to define measures for almost everything. Obama is talking about changes that people asked for, but changes are the most dangerous things for people, if they done suddenly and without thought. Obama wants only changes, he is talking about problems in economic system of America, and there is danger here if he tries to change it without fully understanding it.

Kucinich looks idealist in some aspects, but I trust his judgments. He proved that he respect to America and also other countries. He sounds as good leader.
what a a-hole , or is  KUCINICH ONE OF THE BEST THE DEMS HAVE TO OFFER .HE TALKS ABOUT ALL THE DEAD ON THE
BATTLEFIELD,S BUT ITS OK TO KILL MANY OF MILLIONS OF
AMERICANS IN THE ABORTION CLINICS AROUND THE COUNTRY!
YES YOU SURE DO MAKE A LOT OF SENSE? PLEASE KEEP ON TALKIN!
Similar to spinach, Kucinich is green, and his a** is in a can with an expiration date long past.  Time to go to a homeless shelter.
The simple fact that Kucinich is being beaten by Clinton shows that most Democrats at the grass-roots level are not seriously anti-war.

The American <s>people</s> puppets keep electing the same old, same old politicians, who speak out both sides of their mouths, and promise everything but deliver very little (certainly less than they take from The People) -- then most of The People have the nerve to complain that the leadership of both major parties is so corrupt.  From the justifiably record-low approvals of Congress and Bush, and ESPECIALLY to...

...this country is in the "decline and fall" stage, and we can only blame the majority of American voters -- not the American politicians -- because we've only gotten what the majority of voters out there have KEPT voting for.

Obama campaign confirms candidate's Pavilion event

By Bob Gibson  / bgibson@dailyprogress.com | 978-7243
October 4, 2007

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., will speak at a low-dollar Charlottesville fundraiser for his presidential campaign Oct. 29 at the Charlottesville Pavilion on the east end of the Downtown Mall, campaign officials confirmed Tuesday.

Tickets for the event will cost $15 for students, $29 for the general public and $100 for the orchestra section at the 3,800-seat amphitheater, said an Obama campaign spokeswoman in Chicago.

A high-dollar meet-the-candidate affair for $1,000 and $2,300 donors will precede the 7 p.m. event by at least an hour at Ten, a Japanese restaurant downtown owned by Coran Capshaw, manager of the Dave Matthews Band.

Bruce and James B. Murray Jr. of Keene are hosting the event, which Democrats in Charlottesville said should outdraw the crowd that Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton attracted Sept. 23, when she spoke in front of more than 1,000 people at the Paramount Theater.

Author John Grisham, who hosted the Clinton event, said it raised more than $200,000, with tickets ranging from $25 for students to $50 for the general public. About 50 people paid $1,000 and about 50 paid $2,300, he said.

Russ Linden, co-chairman of the Charlottesville Democratic Party, said he has a hunch “that Obama’s folks would like to have something to contrast with Hillary, to draw a larger crowd.”

There is “no question” that Obama enjoys significant support among Democrats in Charlottesville, Linden said. “I think the guy does connect the way few people do.”

Jen Psaki, an Obama spokeswoman, said, “Sen. Obama is looking forward to returning to Virginia later this month where he will talk about his commitment to changing this country and thank the thousands of supporters across the state who have been working hard every day to help send him to the White House.”

Tickets are available online through https://donate.

contribute/c2cville.

Psaki could not say whether Gov. Timothy M. Kaine, a Richmond Democrat who has endorsed Obama, would attend the Charlottesville event because he is “out on the road working hard on the upcoming Virginia General Assembly races.”

Larry J. Sabato, director of the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics, said that Obama probably would defeat Clinton in Virginia if the state’s Feb. 12 Democratic presidential primary were to be held in the coming few months instead of after other major primaries early next year.

“They will draw a big crowd,” Sabato predicted. “I would think a lot of students would be coming. I would estimate that among my Democratic students, probably 70 percent support Obama. Faculty also tend to be pro-Obama.”

The outdoor venue for the fundraiser two nights before Halloween means that as far as the weather, “it’s a roll of the dice,” said Kirby Hutto, general manager of the Pavilion.

Democratic officials said they envision the event as “rally like,” coming just eight days before Virginia’s legislative and local elections.

An earlier plan for the event had a nationally known music group or artist performing, but that part of the event was dropped, Hutto said.

Although there will be some seating for the event, “it will be predominantly open floor,” Hutto said.

“The area down closest to the stage will be open floor,” he said.

“They wanted to pull the chairs out so they could get the maximum number of people in.”

“I think it is going to be a huge thing for Charlottes-ville,” Hutto said.

Kucinich is definitely the only candidate with the courage to tell it the way it is. It's a shame that more people are not listening to what he has to say, but Americans seem to be more interested in starting and fighting wars than listening to common sense.
Kucinich - The short sane choice!
Rep. Kucinich tells the truth...always has. I think it's a good sign that most of the other Dems running for president rarely mention him, and AARP doesn't invite him to their "insurance company lovefests". He is square where he was in 2002 when I first heard him speak. He's got my vote.
Its a shame people are not listening to Kucinich, after all the guy is trying to save american jobs and trying to provide universal health care to all people. when would we understand what is good for us or would we always lap up the BS spewed by good for nothing politicians..
No, you haven't missed an election, but you've managed to miss every poll taken over the past few years.  Nobody wants Dennis to run for anything and nobody cares what he thinks.   Hillary Clinton will be the Democratic Party nominee.  All Dennis can do is hurt her chances and spend our tax money from his public-funded campaign.  He should have quit already, but no, he's going to keep is mouth yapping.
Kucinich will be running in 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020...
in between watching UFOs.
Google "hillary uncensored" the documentry that the Media is trying to hide from you, CLNTON CORRUPTION EXPOSED!!!
Congressman Kucinich will not be in Florida.
Please check this with the campaign's
Communications Director.
Its a shame that Good People, like Kucinich, have absolutley no chance of being elected in this country...
while the focus is the CEO of demo politics i'm for biden. clinton, edwards and obama all have shortcomings on their position and/or votes on iraq. while they dodge the inconsistencies and flop on votes biden addresses reality with policy and consistency. he votes for funding to support the troops with best equiptment to defend ieds and promotes a complete plan to address fiasco. its like a dam that busts and the floods coming. biden's at the bottom trying to build a dyke to defend the people caught in its path. he wants the tools to build the dyke and a majority to build it. given the choice i want the man to avert the flood, not the man who'll say he warned the breach would happen and didn't support it[obama] or the ones who flopped on supplying the equiptment to build the dyke [edwards and clinton and obama]. i want the man who voted to supply the sandbags, has a plan to build it, and a consesus to do so, biden. let him dam the dam thing.
Who says Clinton, Obama, and Edward are'top tier'? Did I miss an election?

Well for one, Dennis Kucinich, he didn't exactly go after Joe Biden now did he?
Kucinich is simply minded. He equates voting to fund a war that you are opposed to as standing in the way of ending the war. Either he's misleading the public, or he doesn't have a clue. He isn't the only one to have voted against the war resolution, 21 Democratic Senators did, and even more Democratic Congressman did, and yet to date only 4 Democratic Senators who voted against the war resolution have voted against any war supplemental.

Why?  Because unlike Kucinich they are grown up, and I'm not referring to Kucinich's lack of height, rather his lack of common sense, and failure to live in a reality based world. Idealism's great, I prefer a leader who makes reality based decisions.

If voting against funding the war would end it one day sooner, then it'd make sense to vote against a supplemental. But neither the House or Senate has anywhere near the votes to end the war, so when you vote against a supplemental, all you are doing is delaying need protection for the troops. Bush, Cheney,  in their rush to war failed to provide protection for the troops. It's great so many parents have bought body armor for their children (soldiers) in Iraq, but not all parents of soldiers in Iraq have the financial means to do so, nor should they have to. The government has a moral obligation to protect its soldiers, regardless of whether they are in a necessary or stupid war. For over four years our kids have been in harms way without adequate protection, because of the immoral actions of Bush et al. When Congress ignores the need to protect these kids, they are no better than Bush. Doesn't Congress have a duty to provide our soldiers with armored vehicles that reduce the risk of death from an IED by 80%, and if they fail to provide this protection, and body armor, etc, they bear some responsibility for soldiers lives that they failed to provide funding to protect. It's true it's Bush's war, but Congress has a duty to protect American soldiers, even when the President was an idiot for sending them over there.

It is precisely because of Congresses moral obligation to protect American soldiers that Senators
Akaka, Bingaman, Byrd, Conrad, Durbin,  Inouye, Levin, Mikulski, Murray, Reed, and Stabenow who all voted against the Iraq war authorization have never voted against a war supplemental.
I'm curious to see what Kucinich asks american women to give up in his negotiations with radical islamic groups to stop blowing up people.
though the press likes to laugh at the man, he has some good and interesting ideas.
Though I am not a supporter of DK I do respect some of the ideas this man has.
The more it looks like Gore won't get in the race, the more it seems like my second choice, Dennis Kucinich, is the only choice for progressives. Clinton is just a centerist Republican and the rest of the candidates just seem to be seat fillers. To really change the course of the country we need new leadership not the same old tired D.L.C.middle of the road, same direction with a nuanced message, claptrap. Don't fall for the same program with different window dressing. WAKE UP AMERICA, get rid of milquetoast Dems like Pelosi, Reid, Emanuel, and all the candidates who only give us lip service but will not truly change anything. THE REVOLUTION STARTS NOW !!!!!!!
Say what you want about Kucinich, but he has been spot on about the war since before it began.

As a military family and Ohioan, I can tell you he is NOT anti-military.  He, like many of us, is simply against the MISUSE of military force. But the press is too busy making fun of his looks and his wife's tongue     piercing. (They don't seem to be as concerned about the large number of republicans who are pedophiles, however...)

War is always supposed to be a last resort-but it was the first resort for everyone who voted for it.

They continue to fund our good soldiers demise...may God forgive them, as this military parent cannot.
Kucinich, just like a rusty, leaking can of stinking spinach, has exceeded his expiration date.  Clear the shelves.
With the exception of Gravel, Kucinich is the only Democratic candidate for President that will actually end the war in Iraq and prevent a war with Iran (provided that Bush and Clinton haven't already started one).  After spending at least $1 Trillion (that's 1,000 Billion dollars or 1,000,000 Million dollars), 4,000 Americans dead, 75,000 Americans seriously wounded, and multiple 100,000s of Iraqis killed, now we're threatening to start another war with Iran because of the controversial political rhetoric of Iran's President Ahmadinejad.  Are we crazy?  On foreign policy, Clinton is no different than Bush because they both take their marching orders from the same Neo-Cons who took us to war with Iraq, foment for a war with Iran, and generally control our foreign policy.  It's time to restore US foreign policy so that it benefits the average American--and for the average American Iran poses no threat.
Um, the polls say they are "top-tier." An election further narrows the field down to...one. If you missed the election, you would be hearing about the winner.
I like Kucinich; respect the fact that he stuck to his guns in regards to Iraq BUT... I feel as if he's trying to ride that.  Besides, unless he really shines in the debates, he doesn't have a shot in hell of winning.  We need a candidate that has solid plans for America.  Again, we are starting to see, even with Kucinich, the putting down of other candidates within his/her respective party as a means to win an election.  Me, personally... I can't speak for the rest of America, but I don't want to hear about candidates' past records, or the pointing of the finger at other candidates.  "Look at me, I voted against the war from the get go."  It's an impressive little tidbit but let's move on to plans for major issues that bother us. Such as:  How do we stop the corporate take over of America?  That, my fellow americans, is the major issue.  Believe it or not, we are living in a Corporatocracy - which in many ways, with the merging of state and corporate interests, resembles Fascism (modern Feudalism).  We are a society run by corporations (big business/the wealthy) with the hint of nationalism (911... where Bush started referring to America as the "HOMELAND"... it became US versus THEM) accompanied with this administration's reaction to hurricaine Katrini (which left many americans wondering if they really care about blacks).  So most of the elements for a facist state are there.  It's a little bit of a stretch but they are.  The key, though... is the meshing of big business and government.  Our government's policies have been captured by BIG OIL, BIG AUTO, and BIG AGRICULTURE.  And now we esssentially have two BIG BUSINESS parties to choose from.  The Dems just happen to be the lesser of the two evils.  At least they are willing to tax the rich and fund/keep some government programs around.  Let's face it, the majority of politicians are bought out by corporations.  Until a candidate comes up to the plate that is willing to try and pass legislation that reverses the Supreme Court's stance on corporations being allowed the same RIGHTS as people, we - the middle class - are screwed.  Because there in lies all their power.   Refuse Corps the right to fund campaigns.  Put a limit on their existence.  That is what our founding fathers were all about; that is what democracy was founded on... the breaking away from the rule of the elite rich (Feudalism).  Look around you... what are we living in - huge tax cuts to the rich, corporations with rights like people whom influence our elected officials, and therefore control how our laws are written; our media has been privatized/monopolized, therefore BIG BUSINESS controls how we receive our news; and the list goes on.  Not to mention we've begun to turn over our voting appartuses to private corporations (who are only accountable to stockholders and their officers, not to us, "we the people").  A candidate needs to voice out against the BIG GUYS, the rich - who now have a strangle hold on our government.. destroying our democracy.  Give 'em the boot back to "privileges", like churches and government.  Human beings should be the only one's with "rights".

The twerp is certifiable.
Speaker of the House, Dennis Kucinich.  Sounds much better to me. The sooner the better.
Kucinich & perhaps Edwards represent the only distinct alternatives to the Repugnicans.

Ron Paul is someone i would consider voting for.

Virtually all the rest are just corrupted corporate mouthpieces. War maniacs. Voting for them is voting against yourself, so please don't fall for them.

I can never vote for someone who doesn't work for mine & fellow voter's interests.
"he is physically short, which makes him unelectable in American Politics"
Doug Somers Franklin, WI

Doug:  I can just picture the sub-6' Harry Truman, winner of the biggest election upset in Presidential history, holding aloft a copy of the Chicago Tribune with your words on its headline.
Andy Merten's biased opinion about Kuccinich is evident in his little write up here.  Just another puppet for the master in the mainstream media lap dog pack for the Powers that be.  Of course Kuccinich won't win, with press like this reporting little to nothing of one of the few decent candadites running, no one even knows who he is or that he is running.

"Kucinich used his moment with the press to come out harshly against his party’s top-tier presidential contenders’ policies towards Iraq, and also leveled some heavy criticism towards what he perceives to be pending military action toward Iran."

If you think a person's history or performance is coming out "harshly" against anyone - then what would be appropriate?  Watching what one does and not what one says is essential in making a responsible choice and is an obligation of those voting.  If I were Dennis, I would have pointed out how each of the three top contenders have accepted large campaign donations from war contractors, defense contractors, AIPAC (or are we not allowed to mention the power of the Israel lobby here?) and have very huge investments in companies affiliated with war profiteering.  Dennis's record along with Ron Paul's and a very few other politicians (some not running for any seat or in a race for the White House)is squeeky clean.  If you want to look at someone's integrity - follow their money trail.  It says a lot.  Essentially all of his contenders in the Democratic party are dirty rotten sell outs who have already done sold their vote and our best interest to the highest bidder.  I didn't realize that our civil servants positions and duties were up for sale -

Rarely do we have such a candidate as Dennis Kucinich. He is unowned by the lobbyists, speaks clearly and unevasively about his solutions to our challenges and he
is the only candidate for true universal health care. The overwhelming domestic issue. Not only will it help our citizens health care it will give a shot in the arm to our industries long unable to compete with foreign competitors. He has a plan to rebuild our crumbling infrastructure witha WPA type program thaqt is way overdue. He makes so much sense the corporate owned media cant deal with his views they have to ridicule his looks, wife, height whatever. What a travesty.
Wake up ! Dennis Kuccinich is the one this time around Americans must grow out of their superficial mind-set listen to what is being said. Hillary/Edwards/Obama have healthcare plans but they'er flauwed, does anyone think a wealthy person who doesn't like to pay taxes or does'nt is goeing to want to continue paying high insurance premeiums, they will jump at the chance to dump the Insurance company's. The extra load of people onboard will sink their boat. Single pay improved medicare for all for life is the only way It works. Dennis is a gaint in My book and I will vest all the powers I can to him as far as throwing away votes is concerned if one votes for someone just because they think can win they have no bisiness voting that's a lesson for  kids  ( PLEASE DON"T BE A FOOL AGAIN )
Although I disagree with Dennis Kucinich on a couple of issues, he will still get my vote in the primaries. He is a LEADER WITH COURAGE. That is what this country needs at this time. Not WIMPY PUPPETS!!!!!
