Could McConnell get Daschle-d?

Is there a new GOP Senate seat now on the Democratic target list? A new Research 2000 poll matches up Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell against a number of potential Democratic challengers. And in every matchup, McConnell is under 50%, with Democratic Rep. Ben Chandler giving McConnell the closest race, losing 46%-41%. Could McConnell get Daschle-d? His approval rating is a net negative overall, thanks not just to angry  Democrats, but also independents.

I didnt belive webb would beat macaca man,or that the senate would go democratic but now Im betting these repuckers can mess anything up,so long funnyman, time to get that job lobbying for lockheed or someother defence contractor like your friend curt weldon hooked up a nice gig using all the contacts we gave him as congressman, taking care of his friends who in turn take care of him,it must be nice to be an ex congress or senator
I'd love to see McConnell Daschle-d!

Turnabout is fair play . . .

To be honest though, it has been a little sad seeing Mitch come out of the Republican caucuses with that confused "Deer in the headlights" look on his face. He was much more effective as the Repub Whip. Larry Craig would enjoy the spanking!
C'mon guys.  The homophobic remarks should be the province of the right.  Suffice it to say that without an override majority, the Dems are limited in delivering us from the past 7 years.  The litany of scandals, catastrophes, and malfeasance of this president and his right wing co horts make this the most tragic administration for this country in my lifetime.  ANYONE of the Dems will do better, but it will take YEARS to undo the damage. McConnell is one simple sap, a syptom of the problem..not its source!
Sierra [["Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., is pushing $25 million in earmarked federal funds for a British defense contractor that is under criminal investigation by the U.S. Justice Department"

The pubs went after Hillary Clinton for an earmark that was 1/25 as large as Mitch's, and without the usual pub taint of corruption.

The problem with the Democrats is that they're too slow on the attack when one is warranted. McCain got his attack on Hillary off a few days after her "Woodstock" museum earmark got publicity, but there's no Dem response to Mitch's latest scandal. And of course, the "liberal" media covered the Clinton earmark but has barely mentioned Mitch's problem.

BTW: I'm not a big fan of Hillary's, but Chris Matthews came off as a big idiot, ranting and raving for 45 minutes Friday about how her choice of baseball teams showed she was a "fraud".

I wonder how many of the Republicans who scoff at the idea of McConnell getting ousted scoffed at the idea of the Democrats taking control of both houses of Congress in 2006?  You guys have learned nothing in the last two years.

The GOP has reacted  to their losses by going furhter to the right when they were already pretty exteme.  Every moderate conservative that gets expelled from the GOP caucus is one more vote that the Democrats are working hard to let into their tent.  Every time the GOP blocks popular measures like SCHIP in the same week that BushCo asks for $50 billion more in Iraq funding, it drive independant voters away from the GOP and towards the Democratic Party.  Everytime people like Dave, TN get their way and the GOP makes hispanics, blacks, and every other ethnic group that didn't come over on the Mayflower a legislative target they loose even more of those growing voter block, and the Democratic Party is more than happy to court those votes.

Scoff.  Snicker. Roll your eyes. I don't care.  Each lame comment, every joke that is in poor taste, every attack on a 12 year old child, every comment from Limbaugh, Beck, Coulter, O'Reilly, Hannity, et al brings the GOP one small step close to going the way of the Whigs.  And that you do it willingly makes it that much funnier to watch...

Enjoy the 2008 elections.  I know I will.
Chuckles, I mean Smiley-

Some people are more comfortable with war criminals than others.  You know - like the nazis.
I have never seen so much hate in one blog.  Yet, liberals attack the right-wing hate machine.

Mitch McConnell is a good man and great leader.  He will not fall like Daschle.  Daschle was a liar who pretended to be conservative in South Dakota, but voted with Teddy and Hill in DC.  Since when is truth smear?

Something tells me liberals are in for a rude awakening come next fall.  With Hillary at the top of the ticket, McConnell is safe.
Greg, NY:: Well when did he become the Senator from New York? We elected him and we will get rid of him if needs be. That is the damn problem in this country. People from other states trying to say what is good for someone elses state. I don't care for your state nor its representatives but you don't ever see me blasting them. Will your representatives vow to plug up every pot-hole in my city? I don't think so but they will funnel money back to your state. Its all a damn game, the sooner people understand it as such, the sooner the arguing about minut stuff halts.
It is surprising to see McConnell's low numbers in Kentucky.  He has always won his races handily.  Kentucky has been a solidly republican state in all the statewide, congressional and presidential races for the last 20 years or so.

So, what is going on?  Kentucky also has a democratic plurality in voter registration.  It always has.  In the long ago past democrats were the winners in most elections.  It is a state full of the old "Reagan Democrats" who often vote for democrats in the state legistature but vote republican in federal elections.  What's going on in Kentucky is not so much about McConnell as it is about the disintegration of this voting block.  They are finally waking up to their foolish voting habits--voting against their own economic self interests as well as supporting simple-minded cowboy foreign policy, which as led us to the quagmire and economic stagnation we are facing.  The republicans got power and went on a feeding frenzy of greed and hate.  Now, it is coming back to roost.  Their days are numbered; and not even the scare tactics of the past six years will work this time.  Good bye Mitch.
Rick, KY:

The relaxed filibuster rules and thus the 60 vote majority had its origins under said Senator Daschle, the original obstructionist in this century.  Democrats are simply reaping what they sowed.  Now, it's my turn to laugh about it and call it justified.

However, I fully expect that they will have no particular problem re-instituting the old rules if and when they gain the presidency and establish further majorities in congress.  The "rights" and protections of the minority party will suddenly not be so sacred when we are under the benevolent protection of a Democrat monopoly.  I can also see that certain of you will gleefully accept the old "new" rules.

I can also readily see that donkeys, as opposed to elephants, have short, or at least convenient, memories.  At least as evidenced by Rick, KY.
ARC, Des Moines states:

"Not only will a dem be in the White House, but the dems will pick up more seats and make it possible to override vetos."

I can only hope that dems with veto proof majorities in congress will still find it necessary to do so with a dem president.

It's statements like this that keep my hope alive and scare me at the same time.
Senator McConnell's fate is in the hands of Kentucky voters, where it should be. I sometimes think that residents of states whose Senators are running for President don't always get their money's worth because these Senators begin campaigning almost two years before the election and tend to miss votes that may be important to their constituents back home. Or, instead of concentrating on proposing bills that beiefit their state, they are concentrating on their next campaign speech. If Senator McConnell has fulfilled his commitment to the citizens of Kentucky, has put their interest first, then he deserves to be re-elected.  In any event, it is for Kentuckians to decide.
Richard, washington state: we just callem Jackasses, such as yourself.
Richard Washington State [[I can only hope that dems with veto proof majorities in congress will still find it necessary to do so (overrid vetos)  with a dem president. ]]

So do I. The Democratic Congress didn't rubberstamp FDR and even held hearings on how the he was conducting World War II. If on the off chance that a Democrat wins the presidency, I certainly hope they don't act like the Republicans in Congress now, marching mindlessly in lock step behind their "Decider."
Lorreta Smiley,  Ole Bobs anger management class going well!!!.  It has taught me well to spot fake politicians.  Current administration included.  What about my statement in my post do you not agree with.  All were repeated after John Boehner statement about the 3,700 lives were a small price to pay as to our grabbing Middle East Terrority that was lost when our "FRIENDS" from Saudia Arabia told the US government to leave their "Holy Land".

Why the secret building of the "COLOSSAL EMBASSY" with 900 imported Asian slave labor in Baghdad?

Why hasn't the cost of this cesspool been calucated in the budget?

"Engage Brain Before Opening Mouth"  Your "<Extended Rant deletion>" are just the type that those who are willing to sacrifice our troops would say to justify their profits.

This "FUBAR" administration has reversed position on Iraq so often it is like a snake chasing its tail.

Why the 88 million dollars for a "Bunker Busting Bomb?" That idea was busted by Randi Rhodes insisting everyone call their congressional rep. it was Canceled last year when they tried to sneak it into the underground test in "Area 51"

I guess you and your kind will turn our military against our civilians that don't agree with your type of thinking.

View the motion picure titled "SEVEN DAYS OF MAY" We are closer than ever in all of my 72 years to be ruled by the Military. That is scarier than any "Halloween Movie" I've ever seen.
"MARTIAL LAW IS CLOSER THAN YOU THINK"
To: Harold Jackson, Louisville, KY

You wrote (regarding Mitch McConnell):

"We elected him and we will get rid of him if needs be. That is the damn problem in this country."

My response:

You're partially right Harold. Perhaps majority and minority leaders should be chosen by the people and not by their Senate collegues.  In that role, a Senator holds power beyond one states's interests, making them fair game!

That is the dilemma and why everyone of us is entitled to comment on your Senator's behavior and leadership or lack of leadership!
Mitch's future is shared with the future of the Republican Party.  Most people are sick of the U.S. military occupation of Iraq, blocked SCHIP, warrantless wiretapping, rendition for torture and the whole neocon Project for a New American Century program.  That means the Republicans will further be swept out of power in 2008 and Mitch will be ditched with the rest of them.
