Biden files in NH, touts qualifications

From NBC/NJ's Mike Memoli
CONCORD, NH -- Joe Biden officially joined the field on the New Hampshire ballot today, saying he is "far and away" the most qualified candidate when it comes to foreign policy.

Entering the Secretary of State's office here, Biden was told about the historic filing desk, the only piece of furniture that remains from when the State House originally opened. Secretary Bill Gardner added that there was a "Delaware connection," since the state reclaimed the item after many years from a Delaware source. "Well, I tell you what, I hope it brings me luck," Biden said.

Speaking with reporters, Biden (of course) praised the state's first-in-the-nation status. "It is a literal fact, it is not an exaggeration, it is not fiction, it is not hyperbole, to suggest that without the New Hampshire primary and the Iowa caucus, there is no level playing field," he said.

Biden also discounted his standing in the polls, saying voters here will not begin making up their minds for another month. "I'm ahead of where John Kerry was at this point in the process," he said. "Can you name me a front-runner other than an incumbent who has been ahead so far at this point who's ended up being the nominee?" And the Senate Foreign Relations chairman said Iraq remains the top issue among primary voters. "As long as that's the case, I'm by far and away the most qualified person to deal with those issues based on my track record, not just what I've said," he said.

Biden was asked about his comments about Rudy Giuliani at Tuesday night's debate. "Rudy was saying that Clinton and Obama weren't qualified on foreign policy. And here's a man who several months ago said, in a public statement reported in the New York Times, 'I don't know who's further ahead on nuclear weapons, Iran or Korea.'" Biden then smirked and shrugged his shoulders.

Biden had to cut his availability short and canceled the rest of his schedule here today because he was called back to Washington for an SCHIP vote.

I have no doubt that Biden is the most qualified candidate.  I hope he can translate his qualification into votes.
"Biden had to cut his availability short and canceled the rest of his schedule here today because he was called back to Washington for an SCHIP vote."

I think that statement reflects well on Seantor Biden.  Putting his work as a Senator before his candidacy for the Presidency.
Biden had probably the least air time of any candidate during the last debate, yet with his limited responses he was able to demonstrate a better command and understanding of America's complex foreign policy issues than anyone.  There is no issue more important to America than Iraq.  Biden is the only candidate with a comprehensive plan for bringing stablity to Iraq so we can bring our troops home.  In January I will stand in support of Senator Joe Biden during the Iowa caucus.
Another major foreign policy issue that affects us domestically is the price of oil. Biden is the only candidate so far to address the relation between Middle East peace and stability = lower oil prices (as in not voting to designate Iran's Guard as a terrorist organization). This guy seems to truly understand world affairs as it affects each and every American personally. This issue should be a bigger news story as the crunch of $95+ a barrel into the winter season is going to affect 100s of millions of Americans. (He mentioned that the oil price should be around $60 a barrel if it wasn't for the risk of instability driving up the costs).

Also, this guy has been on the world stage since the 70's.
The guy is incredible.  Too bad no one watches the debates on MSNBC
I also wish the commentators would have asked about domestic issues-more on health care and the economy
any mixers planned for this weekend Joe?
A completely objective evaluation of all the candidates for president is a wise strategy for choosing the best person for the job.  Weighing specific past instances of bold leadership and bi-partisan skills mean so much more than race, gender or how you can speak in public.

At home we’re facing major crises with many issues, including immigration, social security, healthcare, and education.  The next president has to have a world of experience in the process of passing effective legislation.  This includes having many congressional relationships already in place and a significant history of reaching across the isle and gaining the support needed to legislate effectively.  Joe Biden is that man.

Biden is the only qaulified candidate.  The voters in Iowa and NH will recognize that fact.
In these troubled and dire time we live in, Joe Biden, to me, encompasses all that we desperately need for our nation:

1) Intelligence
2) Experience in ALL phases of government
3) Strength
4) Respect from world leaders
5) Diplomacy
6) Command of issues
7) Solutions to problems that face our nation
8) Honesty
9) Integrity
10) Respect and trust from his peers
11) Respect and trust from the people who follow him
12) an EXPERT in foreign policy

Joe Biden certainly meets ALL of the criteria above.

I pray and hope every day that Mr. & Mrs. America, the people of Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina know in their hearts, that if we lose Joe Biden, we'll have lost one of the best Presidents our nation will ever have.

Please watch a video I produced to show my support for Senator Biden. If you support him, please send the link below to family and friends, and ask them to do the same.

I sure hope there are a lot of people like you guys living and voting in Iowa and New Hampshire.
Kato in Des Moines,  Biden  did have the least amount of air time according to Dodd's website. Dodd tracks candidate response time. And you're also right he made great use of that limited time.
Instead of serving on the 9/11 Commission, Rudy chose to turn HIS 9/11 experience into a money making proposition.
Now he's using 9/11 to further his political ambition

Rudy Giuiliani, 9/11 for fun and profit
Biden should remain in NH w/the desk. I'm still trying to determine what he's done for DE since 1972?
I also wish the commentators would have asked about domestic issues-more on health care and the economy

--  they are fair. For the Republican debates they ask Republican talking points and for the Democratic debates they also ask Republican talking points. ;)
Joe Biden has always been my choice - He is the most qualified for the presidency - no doubt about it!!!  I only hope that the rest of the country recognizes the fact that he is the only candidate with the indisputable qualifications, the wisdom and veracity it is going to take to be the President in these unstable times.  JOE BIDEN '08
If Sen. Biden is worried about the cost of oil, perhaps we should open ANWR to drilling. Sen Reid should stop fighting the coal plants they want to bild in NV to generate electricity. We should build more nuclear plants (they're also greenhouse gas free!). We should stop subsidizing ethanol, and use the money to help people buy heataing oil.

Or the Senate can just bitch about Heorge Bush and accomplish nothing.
Hey, Joe, How's Neil Kinnock?
Joe Biden is the most qualified and he will have the votes as long as people like Carrie and I up there caucus for him!! And you better believe I'll be standing strong for Joe!
It almost seems like the media picks for us. Look at the front runners, Hillary cannot or will not answer a question directly. Barrack, and Edwards are devoid of any experience. The way the world is today, Joe's foreign policy experience is a must. No offense to the front runners but I believe that "On The Job Training" would be a bad idea in 08.
American Voter,

It is too bad you do not enjoy the fruits of Biden's labor like the rest of us in the United States.  Whether it is the Violence Against Women Act, the Biden/Clinton crime bill, the lack of Robert Bork on the Supreme Court, or the only rational Iraq strategy enjoying bipartisan support, we here in the rest of the country sure appreciate his wisdom hard work over the last 35years.

Thank you, Joe.  Thank you for serving the American people.  We hope we can do the same for you in November 2008.
What, exactly, is all this "experience in foreign policy" Sen. Biden touts? SOmeone splain to me how a Senator gets such experience?
He is the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee which is pretty much the voice of the senate for dealing with ALL things foreign.
He also helped brokered the deal that brought down Milosevic whose genocidal dealings in the Bosnian Serbian areas were more horrendous than Saddam. With his plans and insight, he separated the warring factions and peace followed (this is a similar premis to his Iraq plan). These countries are now looking to get into the UN and not 1 US soldier has died since this happened.
If this is not enough, or at least not heads and tails above any other candidate on foriegn policy experience, please let me know.
Lastly, if 'Iraq/Iran/foreign policy' is the most important issue facing Americans today, (which it is) then we must vote for Joe Biden.
Is he still advocating US military intervention in Darfur?
Bruce,

Yes, he is.  Unlike other Democratic candidates - Joe doesn't waffle.

And regarding your Kinnock reference - I sure hope that the people in your life have forgiven you for any mistakes you made in 1988.

Oh, wait, you are perfect.
