Edwards opposes Obama on Peru trade

Posted: Sunday, November 04, 2007 2:37 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC/NJ's Tricia Miller and NBC's Mark Murray
CHARLES CITY, IA - In his first event of a two-day swing through Iowa, Edwards kept up his assault on Clinton -- but added a new, more subtle offensive against Obama.

Running down his opposition to the recent Peru trade deal, Edwards mentioned that Obama supports it, and added that he hadn't heard what Clinton's position was. Edwards rarely mentions Obama on the trail, but Mike Signer, who handles Edwards' foreign policy, also questioned Obama's position on Iran in an interview with MSNBC's Norah O'Donnell on Friday.

Regarding Clinton, Edwards said, per his campaign: “For the sake of hard-working families in Iowa and all across America, I hope that Senator Clinton will finally take a stand, do what is right and join me in strongly opposing the Peru trade deal.”

Edward going after Obama is meaningless. He should know better than that...Obama will chew him. Obama is better counter puncher than any of them.

Edwards opposes Hillary... Edwards opposes Obama... Edwards opposes Guiliani...
ac
Is there anybody Edwards wouldn't oppose to contrast himself from other candidates?

I hope Jesus runs for President. "Edwards opposes Jesus!"
Edwards is doing pretty well, although lek is correct that it's a waste of his time to take on Obama when the both men benefit the most from a third place Clinton finish in Iowa.

However, if Jesus were to run for President, it would actually create the most turmoil in the Republican party, not for Edwards; on one hand, conservative Christians would finally have a candidate to rally around, and on the other hand they'd be hesistant about his long hair and liberal policies of peace and forgiveness.  Forced to make a decision, they'd probably err on the side of killing the guy.
Poor Obama, he's so effete no guy is going to vote for him.
Peru is a wedge issue?  Who knew?
Will Hillary take both sides of the issue like she did with Drivers Licenses?
Geez, talk about negative. He's on an EXTREMELY negative offensive, and it's NOT a good campaign strategy. How about if he talks about his views (which aren't so bad) and try not to ruin that for himself and everyone else?
Edwards is stating that he opposes the POSITION of Obama on Peru, and that Hillary Clinton needs to make her position known. Where, and Why, candidates stand on issuss is exactly what we need to hear from all the presidential candidates.  It forms a good part of the basis of who we are to choose for president: to know what they support or don't support.

People should stop making childish comments about Edwards. He is pointing out where he stands, in contrast to where some of the other candidates stand.  It is the best way for Edwards to appeal to us. You can reject Edwars on the basis of his positions, but not on the basis of his challenging other candidates on their positions.  What do you want to know about these candidates when you go to vote?
I bet Obama doesn't run and cry He's picking on me like clinton does.
Obama is a grown up and won't play silly 90s style games.  Someone needs to tell Hillary it ain't 1995 anymore.
come on think! knocking down HRC does Edwards no good if Obama is ahead of him... all he's done is move up the naive and inexperienced Obama.

Best to knock out Obama
the key is to make it a two person race....
HRC and Edwards
or
HRC and Obama.

which do you think Edwards wants it to be?

(and Edwards was great in the debate, Obama sucked wind)
Edwards is this years Gephardt.
Chuck - Only guys who are effete use the word effete.  Even if they're named Chuck.

Think I'm wrong?  When was the last time you were around a construction site and heard the word effete?
Being critical of one another is harmful to the Democrats in winning in 2008. Americans want to know specifics about dealing with issues most important to them. Should focus on defining failed/harmful Bush policies, & what specific action(s)they propose to correct same. Each candidate must promote a positive message on what the Democratics stand for versus the flawed stand, & related actions of this Republican Administration. As far as I'm concerned the "debates" have been nonsense, & thus useless.
It's good to keep up the fire against Clinton.
Smoke her out, John !!

I'm not enthused about Edwards attacking Obama.
All these trade deals are bad for consumers, labor and the environment.

Keep attacking, John
But, be measured about it.
Save your fire for the big issues (and the big target)

-----Pay attention to this j and let us know what you think she thinks about this!
Edwards differentiates himself because he IS different. We need different. Take a close look at this man, he's fighting for Americans.
so hypocritical we are. when are we going to recognize obama as an american son. do we want change for the better or just business as usual. come on america lets do something that will help our declining dollar recover - support obama
