He has no choice----it was his idea.

But being from New York, no one there will pay any attention to his probalems and will probably re-elect the bum anyway......
Et tu Schumer- Your actions will come back to haunt you because you and Feinstein are nothing but sellouts and a slap in the face of voters who put your party in the majority and allow this criminal administration to continue to get away with their criminality. VOTE OUT ALL INCUMBENTS!
Schumer is a tool.  He betrayed Democrats by setting up Lamont not to win the Senate Seat after he had defeated Lieberman in the Democratic primary, and now he is joining Lieberman in his support of torture.  We are supposed to be impressed with the argument that if we don't do what Bush says, he'll just make it worse, but that kind of neutered response only gets you picked on by the bullies all the more; people have had enough of Democrats like Schumer, who represent a cross between old school special interest Dems and a weak capitulation to Republicans.  The new generation of progressive independents, the Wellstone wing of the party as opposed to the Schumer/Reid/Clinton wing, are the future of Democrats: Obama, Dean, Dodd, Edwards, etc.
instead of worrying about the attorney general nomination maybe congress should question why oil prices are about to break $100 a barrel, everyone knows that a coordinated effort being ran through the so called "speculative investors" bank rolled by the oil companies themselves that is keeping prices artificially high, which is against the law. may the members of congress choke on the money the oil lobbyists have paid them off with, free market my ass
Schumer is a non-issue, he did put himself in a very strange position though. I still say watch what happens, not what is said, there is something going on behind the scenes.
It snowed today, election will probably have weak turnout, we shall see.
Usually it snows here in the snowbelt by oct. 11 BUT WE ONLY GOT OUR FIRST TODAY, MAYBE 6 INCHES TONIGHT!
Srry Chuckie---your support of Mukassey is indefensible. You betrayed your part and your country once again. No defense possible.
What a Dem that cares more about the country than the party? Water boarding is a non-issue. If people would take off their blinders of hate and actually read the nom response, they would see he is against it personally but it is something that will have to be dealt with by the next Atty Gen. Stop the political bs. Run your race but dont stop running the country.
I think we need to get our priorities straight. Let's confirm him, if not for any other reason than that he will be more independent from Bush than Gonzalez. Sure, he may not think waterboarding is torture, but we can't have it all. If he keeps Bush in check for the next year and a half, that's a pretty good deal. Then, once a Democrat wins the WH, we can get someone new.

John, I agree there is something going on with the vote on Mukasey. Schumer is close to this guy and I hope they have a plan. The thought of keep your friends close and your enemies closer comes to mind.  As you say we will see.
Mmmm snow in Pa already! I am hoping for at least 6 inches tonight, but not SNOW!  ahhh it is raining here.

Here is the gist of Shumer's argument:

"Most important, Judge Mukasey has demonstrated his fidelity to the rule of law, saying that if he believed the president were violating the law he would resign."

Question: If he really believes this then what is the point of appointing Mukasey if he will just end up resigning the first week? If he doesn't believe this then why is he lying to us?

Anyone know what Feinstein's lame excuse is?

The vote to confirm Mukasey is unconscionable.  I am disgusted with Senator Shumer (as well as Senator Feinstein and Senator Specter).  I expect more than political expediency from these people.  I expect principle (as I do from my presidential candidates).  The issue boils down to the fact that declaring waterboarding torture leaves Gonzalez and even the President open to prosecution for violating federal statutes against torture.  Well so be it.  We are fighting for the soul of our country.

Gonzalez has made the spirit of Tomas de Torquemada proud in pronouncing that these forms of torture are legal and of course, our immoral and intellectually, devoid-of-curiosity, president was only too happy to sully the integrity and spirit of our great nation by implementing these practices.  And for what?  These practices are ineffective and just degrade us to the level of the enemy.  After all, aren't we supposed to possess the upper hand in terms of morality.  Well aparently not.  Apparently this isn't about rignt and wrong, this is about might makes right.

Last night I wrote to Senators Shumer, Feinstein and Specter expressing my extreme displease.  The
e-mails from Senators Feinstein and Specter were returned since I am not a constituent.  I doubt Senator Shumer paid much attention either.  I urge all of you to e-mail your Senators and tell them of your disgust of the condoning of torture as a means of intelligence gathering (again, not only is it immoral but for you more Machiavellian types, it is absolutely ineffective).  Maybe the people can move this nation to a path that is worthy of the Consitution.  It is apparent that the people that we have sent to Washington have lost their way.
Obama '08
My very clear vision is that we will have a woman president. I can see Hillary as the next president of the United States. She will win, I can see it.
Have we gotten so use to corrupt government that we can be bought for a few pieces of silver. Shurmer, Feinstein and Spector looked like for a brief moment they would fight the good fight and do what is right. Just goes to show that everyone has their price. Add three more to the list.
Schumer is a putz.  Once again we have another politician without the guts to say "I screwed up and suggested this guy.  I take it back."  Ah! No guts = no brains.  Go get a real job you bum.
I can see the democrats winning big. There will be a female president of the United States. The vision is very clear.

RUBBISH!

I e-mailed both of mine and told them I expect both of them to vote in favor of this gentleman.  You libs really take the cake when it comes to torture.
Gee, a flip-flopping Democratic Senator from New York with no integrity.  Who ever expected that to happen?
What is interesting is that both Schumer and Feinstein have hitched their wagon to Mukassy.  Whatever Mukassy does, will reflect on these two.  If Mukassy turns out to be Alberto-light, upholding the illegal power grabs of Bush and Cheney, and their lawyer, Fielding then Shumer and Co. will go down in history as fools.  With Feinstein it will be the pathetic ending of a long centrist career.

Maybe Mukassy will surprise us all and stand up to Bush.  But, I doubt it.  After all he is a republican and repubs tend to be sociopaths--a good example of which is the current governor of Kentucky, up for reelection today.  His slimy illegal faked phone calls today to voters will not win his reelection but will put him in prison once his supporters are out of power.  Anyone think Mukassy will prosecute him?
