Rudy responds to Kerik indictment

Posted: Thursday, November 08, 2007 12:28 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC’s Andy Merten
Taking questions regarding embattled former New York City police commissioner Bernard Kerik, who will likely be indicted today on charges of tax fraud, corruption, and conspiracy, Giuliani repeated past statements that he made a mistake in not fully vetting his appointee, but shifted focus to his other successes as mayor.

“I have pointed out that I think I made a mistake in not checking him out more carefully,” said the Republican presidential hopeful in Dubuque, Iowa this morning. He then quickly shifted to touting his overall success during his term, adding, “But when you balance that mistake against all the successes that we had, and the reality that you make some mistakes and you make some correct decisions, I think the overwhelming record is a record of great success.”

Giuliani evoked the reduction of crime and welfare recipients in New York City during his tenure as measures of his correct decisions, citing a 67 percent drop in homicides and an elimination of 640,000 individuals on Welfare payments.

The national GOP frontrunner has used this tactic of addressing past mistakes -- both in his public and private lives -- throughout the campaign. “I am not running as the perfect candidate,” he said, “and I’m not running as the perfect president -- what I’m running as is somebody who’s had a great deal of success.”

But while Giuliani is addressing his past mistakes head-on, he is also using his moments with the press to highlight the differences between himself and Hillary Clinton. Both today and during his endorsement press conference with evangelical leader Pat Robertson yesterday in Washington, he made a point to highlight his staunch opposition of allowing illegal immigrants to obtain drivers’ licenses -- something his potential opponent has not yet taken a clear stance on.

I was shocked when I first heard Guiliani was running for President knowing his background.  Can you imagine him being a democrat running for President?  The conservative part of the media would crucify him. For this reason, I don't listen to so-called political pundits.
And people want to vote for Giuliani for president. Get real! He's not qualified for the job. And now his buddy,Kerik, is getting busted for corruption. I don't think so. There are enough crooks in this country nevermind having another as president. Republicans can't be trusted. They all are liars. Look at Bush and all his lies. Do we really want another republican in office? They do nothing for this country or the American people. Rudy is just as crooked as the rest of them. Let's vote democrat so we can get America back to where it's suppose to be. This is no way to live. We only live once in this screwed up world. What about our freedom? We are losing it. We are losing our constitution. If we keep having these liars in office, this country is doomed. Republicans get away with too much illegal stuff and give the rich tax breaks. How about some breaks for us poor people? Doesn't anyone care anymore, or is it just about GREED!
Like I said...yesterday, and the day before that...and the day before that...If Rudy Giuliani becomes our next President, the country has learned NOTHING from the past seven years and if he wins, the people who cannot make up their minds or not voting for the real issues...deserve what they get.
Well, I've personally dealt with Giuliani, when he stayed at a hotel I'd worked at.  He left in a huff, spouting insults because he didn't want to settle for the suite we gave him and we wouldn't kick out the head of a convention there from the penthouse suite for him.  I couldn't believe how rude he was!  He came back a few months later when he got it reserved, just for him.  -Nice man, that one, someone I'd really want running the country.  -Not!  Just say no to "Rude" Rudy.
Giuliani makes Bloomberg look good.  I pray that the 'pubs nominate Rudy and he picks Huckabee (he does so well at picking, doesn't he)?  Clinton/Richgardson will then destroy them.  Unless Bloomberg runs.  Bloomberg and anybody will cause Rudy/Huckabee to finish THIRD.

Do you really want Clinton as president "Look at all the coruption the Clinton's were involved in", Rudy changed NY, from fighting the mob in his early days to being the guiding light threw 9/11.

I tend to agree with mark elgin, ill. but would add this to it: Clinton is a "yes person" to the New York City's Jewish population. Clinton represents them well. But what about us? If nominated, Clintons's first choice for the VP position would be the "so called-democrat from Connecticut" who was the reason Gore-ticket lost the last election. Incidentally, the CT senator was trounced by his own party the last time for they recognized that they were not his main concern in congress. We are not ready for that kind of VP just a heartbeat away from the presidency.
The ONLY democrat acceptable to me is Joe Biden.
Kerik and Guiliani are both guilty!!! Go to the website"www.truthwins.info/" and just look what they have been doing to Lawrence Ray for exposing Kerik in 2004. It will make you sick to see what the wrong people with power are able to do. Go to the site and tell as many people about it as you can. Lawrence Ray's two beautiful young daughters need your help!
