Oh-eight (D): Hearts vs. minds

Posted: Tuesday, November 13, 2007 9:15 AM by Domenico Montanaro
Filed Under:

The Boston Globe’s Canellos looks at the battle for Democratic hearts (Obama) and minds (Clinton). “No candidate in recent memory has embodied the deepest hopes of so many Democrats [as Obama]. Yet it's hard for some to watch the Illinois senator without also thinking of their fears -- the fear, frankly, that Obama is too vulnerable to Republican attacks to be a safe choice for his party's nomination.” More: “With many Democrats' hearts pinned to one candidate, and their brains perhaps leaning toward another one, the Clinton-Obama fight for this year's nomination will be no ordinary beauty contest. It will be an intense, ongoing struggle within the consciences of Democratic voters.”

CLINTON: The campaign sought to downplay Bill Clinton's "those boys have been getting tough" on his wife, comment yesterday. The campaign said it was Clinton being a southerner, not playing the gender card. "While some Clinton advisers say they would like to move on from the discussion of the candidate’s sex, Mr. Clinton’s use of the word ‘boys’ caught the attention of the Republican National Committee, which alerted reporters to it, and of the campaigns of Senator Barack Obama and John Edwards. Operatives in all three camps argued that the Clintons were keeping a ‘boys vs. girl’ story line alive to try to stoke sympathy for Mrs. Clinton -- something Clinton advisers emphatically deny."

NBC’s Andrea Mitchell on Nightly News last night: “The test for Clinton now is how she deals with being on the defensive, while Obama has to prove he can keep delivering on the promise of a strong showing in Iowa.”

The Politico's Roger Simon writes on the question-planting story, and he notes that the real distrust this raises is that of the campaign staff for the candidate. "Because when staffers plant questions, it means they don't trust the candidate to handle herself in public. They don't think she can answer real questions from real people.

The Boston Globe reports, “A dispute over limits that Bill and Hillary Clinton have placed on the National Archives' ability to release their White House records is highlighting a consequence of family dynasties in contemporary American politics: A president has sweeping power to keep potentially embarrassing documents from past administrations a secret.” One of George W. Bush’s “first acts was to slow the scheduled release of his father's papers from the Reagan-Bush and Bush-Quayle administrations.” He also “asserted executive privilege to maintain the secrecy of several Reagan-era documents related to the Iran-Contra scandal.” That means “similarly, should Hillary Clinton become president in 2009, she would exercise sweeping power over what documents from her husband's administration can be made public.”

The RNC says it’s today launching a “Clinton Library Lockdown Petition.”

On the trail in Iowa yesterday, Clinton promised she'd call for a “timeout" on trade agreements.  But what does a "timeout" actually mean?

DODD: Yesterday, a Dodd spokeswoman issued this response regarding Clinton’s statement that she would call a “time out” on trade with other countries if elected president: Last week she said she would support President Bush's Peruvian free trade agreement. On Saturday at the Iowa Jefferson Jackson Dinner, Senator Clinton said she stands now where she's always stood. Today she confirmed it: on both sides of every issue."

EDWARDS: The New York Times attempts to capture the pressure Edwards is feeling. "Lagging in national polls less than two months before the Iowa caucus, Mr. Edwards is a man racing against the clock, hammering out miles over long stretches of countryside in a campaign that his spokesman, Mark Kornblau, says is dictated by a ‘flat-out, hard-charging schedule.’ With his campaign sustained by public financing, Mr. Edwards has only recently bought television time for advertising, and so has been racing from one gathering of potential voters to the next."

"Edwards and his staff members are exceeding his rivals in terrain and time, having rolled through all 99 counties and spent nearly 60 days in Iowa alone since late December, when he announced his candidacy. He has hit towns so off the beaten path that a Des Moines Register columnist, David Yepsen, called them places ‘where Democrats are ordinarily found only on endangered species lists.’”

Today, the campaign will announce a second wave of Iowa TV ads featuring Edwards' plan to hold Congress accountable for passing universal health care within six months of him taking office. Edwards says in the ad, which will run statewide in Iowa: “When I'm president I'm going to say to members of Congress and members of my administration, including my Cabinet: I'm glad that you have health care coverage and your family has health care coverage, but if you don't pass universal health care by July of 2009 -- in six months -- I'm going to use my power as president to take your health care away from you.”

The New York Times’ Zeleny reports, "So how is John Edwards feeling about Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York these days? So bad, apparently, that in an interview last week he twice refused to say whether he would endorse her should she win the Democratic presidential nomination. It is a standard political question, which often comes with a standard answer. And it is highly unusual for a candidate to decline to answer whether he would ultimately support the party’s nominee."

Edwards yesterday unveiled his plan for veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. “Under Edwards' plan, veterans could seek counseling for post-traumatic stress disorder outside the Veterans Health Administration system; the number of counselors would increase; and family members would be employed to identify cases of PTSD.”

Edwards is still focusing on Nevada -- more so than some think, and he's got pretty good non-Vegas support in the state.

GORE: Any Democratic hope of Al Gore jumping into the presidential race are now dashed with the news that the Nobel Peace Prize winner has taken a job with a Silicon Valley venture capital firm.

OBAMA: The Washington Post profiles the Illinois senator. "Those who know Sen. Barack Obama best swear that this is nothing new: Trailing a powerful name in politics, hurrying to build an organization from scratch, struggling to overcome skepticism that he will ever catch up. ‘You know what? The same thing in the U.S. Senate race,’ Michelle Obama said of her husband in a recent interview. ‘The exact same scenario. This is Barack's political career.’”

More: "Yet one of the singular aspects of Obama's rapid political rise is that he accomplished it without becoming controversial, without being bloodied -- indeed, with hardly a scratch, even in rough-and-tumble Chicago, one of America's most famously political cities. He cut a path largely independent of the Democratic machine, its ward bosses and its byzantine rules of succession. Apart from one disastrous decision to run for Congress, he advanced with strong campaigns and some fortuitous implosions by his rivals."

Per the Union Leader, Obama “vowed to end the war in Iraq within 16 months, refocus the military on the fight with al-Qaeda and engage in diplomacy with enemies of the United States. ‘Not only do I want to end the war in Iraq, I want to end the mindset that got us there,’ he said."

The AP looks at Obama’s role in getting death penalty laws changed in Illinois. “Enactment of the 2003 law was a huge political achievement in a state that had been deeply divided over problems with capital punishment. Obama was at the center of the emotional debate. Legislators and lobbyists who worked with him describe a lawmaker who was personally involved, refused to abandon some needed changes but also demanded compromises from both law enforcement and death penalty critics.”

In an interview on MSNBC, Michelle Obama told Mika Brzezinski that “black America will wake up and get it,” predicting that the surveys showing lackluster African American support for Obama are “not going to hold.” Also, after Barack Obama’s success at Saturday’s Iowa Democratic Party dinner and a Sunday appearance on Meet the Press, his campaign is capitalizing on the recent gains over Clinton, setting an $850,000 Internet fundraising goal.

Per NBC’s Andy Merten, while Obama delivered a toned-down version of his anti-Washington establishment jabs at Hillary Clinton while speaking to reporters yesterday, Obama strategist David Axelrod repeated some of the campaign’s charges on MSNBC’s Hardball last night. “Senator Clinton is a very, very proficient politician,” he told host Chris Matthews, adding: “They’re running a textbook campaign, but it’s a campaign that’s designed to get you through an election -- it’s not designed to bring the country together; it’s not designed to solve problems.”

Axelrod also poked fun at Hillary’s newfound “Turn Up the Heat” slogan, saying of his candidate’s enthusiastic reception at Saturday’s Jefferson-Jackson dinner: “This is the change people are looking for. Not a slogan but real, fundamental change, and how our leaders approach these problems.”

RICHARDSON: Even though Florida is being ignored by the Democratic candidates, the Miami Herald is still running profiles of all the candidates. Here's its Richardson write-up.

Hillary had more than one Plant in the audience:

, Iowa (CNN) — The college student who says she was told what question to ask at one of Sen. Hillary Clinton's campaign events told CNN Monday that she wasn't the only one at the event who was a plant and said "voters have the right to know what really happened."
In an exclusive interview with CNN, Muriel Gallo-Chasanoff, a 19-year-old sophomore at Grinnell College in Iowa — whose story in her campus newspaper has now been widely circulated — said that giving anyone specific questions to ask is "dishonest," and the whole incident has given her a negative outlook on politics.

When will they ever learn.....its the cover-up
Looks like AlGore is cashing in on being Green. What a fake this guy is.  How do any of you so called Greenies look at this guy and believe he is the cover boy for your cause?
The Politico's Roger Simon writes on the question-planting story, and he notes that the real distrust this raises is that of the campaign staff for the candidate. "Because when staffers plant questions, it means they don't trust the candidate to handle herself in public. They don't think she can answer real questions from real people.

Of course that's what it means.  Hillary proved she could not answer the tough questions during the last debate in Philadelphia.  Then to top it off, she needed some kid to ask her planted questions because the serious questions she has trouble with.

Chris Dodd is right; Hillary is on both sides of every issue.  She cannot make up her mind on anything.

If Bill Clinton wants to get into a war over his wife, he had better choose his words a little more carefully or go back to making speeches at a quarter million per and just add to the family bank account.

GORE: Any Democratic hope of Al Gore jumping into the presidential race are now dashed with the news that the Nobel Peace Prize winner has taken a job with a Silicon Valley venture capital firm.

Of course, Al has to make money and kick people out of their homes like any other good liberal.  Probably needs the money to upgrade his home so people will stop checking his monthly electric bills.

And in case Bill Richardson is reading this.......
General Sanchez is no longer in charge of the troops in Iraq.....
If you are running for President of the United States, it would help to know who is in charge of the troops.  His name is General Petraeus.
MSNBC and all the boys who post on these blogs are showing just how sexist they are by repeatedly picking on Hillary. They just can't get over the fact that a woman is going to be president. Well all of you boys can't stop her. She's the best woman for the job!
The campaign said it was Clinton being a southerner, not playing the gender card. <<<

I cannot believe how stupid the Clinton's have become. Have they not heard of TV? Radio? The Internet (I mean, Al Gore invented it, you'd think the Clinton's would have a clue about it)? You know, this stuff they say gets around. These Dynamic Morons are going down the drain big time with remarks like this one.

And what, is Clinton implying that 'Southerners' are stupid or something? How offended should anyone south of the Mason-Dixon line feel when the Clinton campaign comes out and says the ex-prez is speaking 'Southern'? They make it sound like he was talking to retards.
Hearts and Minds.  The democrats are so afraid of their own shadow that they cannot see they have their thinking all wrong.  clinton is not only closer to republican values than democratic ones, but, is roundly disliked not just by indies and republicans but, half her own party.  But, they still fool themselves into believing she is the best bet to win!  How silly is that thinking.
You don't win by putting forth the most disliked politician to be your party's nominee and think you can actually win.
the republicans are just hoping we do something this stupid because they have so much to use to knock her out of any chance of winning, no matter how much she brags she can fight the republicans.  Yet she cries gender and foul because she is questioned on her avoiding answering any questions.  If she can't take that, how can she be believed to be strong enough against republicans.  Yet, my party is too snake bit and gullible to believe her empty retoric.
And, Obama who embodies what democrats are about, is the progressive we have looked for, is concidered easy to beat?  Even when republicans and independents are flocking to his camp.  Just because he doesn't bash in Hillary's head they think he will let republicans push him around?  Again, the thinking is so screwed up.  obama has always been able to take care of himself without being ugly like Hillary.  and is effective.  Plus, if you are well liked by your own party, don't cause people to revolt, and you are attracting people from the other side, how can democrats believe he is not electable?  The polling shows him a heck of alot more electable against any republican than Hillary.
I despair of my party.  We have become so nervous, silly and lost we cannot see who is the one who can get elected and run for the one who is the most likely to lose.
As long as we keep nominating the Mondales, dukakis kind of candidates we lose.  and Hillary is one of those that we alway nominate and why we don't get the white house.
You'll know the southerner card is real when you see Tim Russert asking a question to Hillary and Bill walks out there and punches Tim out.
All you womenists out there who are just so appalled that Hillary is being picked on, you need to come join us in the real world.  If Hillary is using planted questions, it shows she cannot handle the real questions that face America.  Why can't a woman face the tough questions?  She would have been fine in Philadelphia if she had just answered the question instead of being offended at being asked the question.
I am not anti-Clinton.  I have not decided whom to support but I have to say Senator Clinton's campaign simply does not seem to get it.  For their candidate's sake, they have got to end this "girls vs. boys" playground mentality now.  The longer it goes on the longer it perpetuates the perception that Senator Clinton is playing the gender card or whining.  These are supposed to be seasons political advisors--can't they get it through their heads that they are hurting their candidate with this childish behavior? She was leading before they started this nonsense--so, go back to dealing with the issues.

Jean, NY: You could have kept that comment to yourself. We dont need to laugh so early in the morning. Are you in America?
Who in their right mind would vote for Clinton? Show some heart and vote Obama!
"MSNBC and all the boys who post on these blogs are showing just how sexist they are by repeatedly picking on Hillary. They just can't get over the fact that a woman is going to be president. Well all of you boys can't stop her. She's the best woman for the job!" Jean

Do you sexists really not see the irony of your comments?

The fact is Hillary is trying to capitalize on both sides of the gender issue. On one side, she's the helpless damsel being assaulted by the mean men. On the other, she's the tough-as-nails woman surviving in a man's world.

It's shameful to exploit her own gender and the sacrifices and efforts of women who really had to struggle in the generations before her just to get the right to vote.

Between the plants and shamelessly relying on such a shameful tactic, it's a wonder that anybody still supports Hillary at all. Well, anybody except a few sexists who are supporting her precisely because she is a woman, and not for any real policy issue.
It's about time someone brought the conduct of GW toward HWs records into the dispute over HRCs records.  Not only are the Reagan/Bush records older than the Clinton records but they were more fully covered by open records statutes until Duhbya stepped in with an Administrative Order to make sure the past stays buried.  This is not a matter of ancient history, many of the same people who's actions were suspect in the Reagan and HW Bush administrations remain VERY active in Republican politics.  When will the GOP come clean on its own past?
I have always maintained that the polls will narrow and Obama will peak at the right time. More will get to know and see his honesty and appreciate his intellect. Plantgate did not surprise me, Hillary always seems so scripted and rehearsed, I can picture her practicing her rah rah , hip hip hoorays ,in the mirror. Obama is spontaneous and honest Hillary is reciting lines and practicig poses. Barack Obama is not "attacking" Hillary Clinton, ( The press loves that word, it sells) he is asking honest questions and highlighting their differences. Obama has class and has displayed excellent judgement. His passion for helping people is a way of life not a campaign promise.
I am a woman who broke barriers in my male-dominated profession in the late 60's and 70's. Much as I would love to see a woman as President, I will not support or vote for Hillary Clinton, even though I am a die-hard Democrat. The Clintons (both Bill and Hillary) simply do not understand ethics of any sort -- personal or political.
Shall we say Hillary is toasted one more time?
MSNBC and all the boys who post on these blogs are showing just how sexist they are by repeatedly picking on Hillary. They just can't get over the fact that a woman is going to be president. Well all of you boys can't stop her. She's the best woman for the job!

Jean, NY

Jean, I'm very much a women. I'm in that group of women that Hillary polls worst with (college graduate professional women). Would I like there to be a women President? Of course. I grew up thinking it would never happen in my lifetime. While I would like there to be a women President, I will never vote for a candidate for any office solely because she's a women. If all other factors were equal I would have no problem using gender as the reason to support the women. But a women candidate doesn't start out ahead merely because we share the same gender.

You state: "She's the best woman for the job!" I don't know that I'd agree that she's the best woman for the job, but she is the only women running. More importantly you didn't even claim she's the best candidate for the job. Had you done so I'd have vehemently disagreed. I'm supporting Joe Biden, who is the best candidate for President.

John B, Des Moines, IA

The answer is when Hell freezes over.
HRC is playing the gender card...........
HRC can not make up her mind.............
HRC flip flops all over the place........
HRC will not answer the "HARD questions..

HRC is a republican runnig as a democrat!!
There is a pattern here and for the life of me I think I am about to see it.

I think that if you keep stating that you are experience you will come mto beleive it.
There once was a candidate that chewed a man out for asking a question that involved the war and was accused of being a "PLANT"

There once was a candidate that said that I was in the white house for 8 years as first lady, which makes me "EXPERIENCED"

There once was a candidate who would not state that the vote they gave bush to go to war in Iraq was "WRONG".

Ther once was a candidate that voted for "SANCTIONS" on Iran just like their vote 5 years ago.

There once was a candidate that did npt know that the money that was donated to their campaign was from a
"WANTED MAN"

Ther  once was a candidate the stated that she would give famileis $$$$ for a "COLLEGE EDUCATION"

There once was a candidate that would not give a "YES" or "NO" answers to the plan on licenses for illegal immigrants.

If you continue to help THIS CANDIDATE to get the nomination, then you will only have yourself to blame when another Republican is sworn in.

I still don't understand how 8 years of being First Lady counts as "EXPERIENCE"

NO MORE BUSHS/CLINTONS................End This War!!
NO MORE REPUBLICANS/CLINTONS..........End This War!!

Best Ticket: OBAMA/EDWARDS '08

OBAMA/EDWARDS '08

You know why Blacks are not appearing to swing towards Obama (JMO)? Because we are enjoying being the 'swing vote' for once. The Black Vote is typically a give away but with Obama and Hillary, there is no guarantee. Whoever gets the African American vote is going to win the nomination. African Americans are not letting themselves be so easily read but you best believe we are thrilled to no end about Obama. Anything short of double digit leads for Hillary and she is in serious trouble because regardless of the polls, once alone in the voting booth most African Americans are going to be checking OBAMA. Love ya Bill but we're shooting for the real thing in 08.
The heart and minds bit at the beginning is a little odd since Obama is often cast as being to cerebral in some of his addresses. Maybe there is heart and mind with Obama. I have to say, even though I am still undecided, that he has shown passion, compassion, and restraint these past few weeks, a hard balancing act.
the Grinnell college student told CNN that "she wasn't the only one at the event who was a plant".... .

cnn.com

How did the MSM miss the story right in front of their faces?  Oh yeah, Clinton is inevitable.

I sort of thought about it, and I said 'Yeah, can I ask how her energy plan compares to the other candidates' energy plans?'" Gallo-
Chasanoff said.

"'I don't think that's a good idea," the staffer said, according to Gallo-Chasanoff, "because I don't know how familiar she is with their plans."

He then opened a binder to a page that, according to Gallo-Chasanoff, had about eight questions on it.

"The top one was planned specifically for a college student," she added." It said 'college student' in brackets and then the question."

So let me get this straight......

We can't debate Hillary because she is a woman and we might hurt her feelings and the womanists will come out of the woodwork and scream bloody murder.....

We can't debate Obama because he is black and that will get Sharpton and Jackson and the NAACP going...

We can't debate Edwards because he is a southerner and that will get the stars and bars crowd in a uproar...

We can't debate Richardson because he is a mexican ad that will get LULAC and La raz allup in arms.....

We can't debate Biden because we will be picking on the dummy crowd.....

We can't debate Gravel because he is a loon and the loonies will feel picked on......

We can't debate kunicinch because the UFO people will send their flying saucers after us and we'll all end up with Luke and Solo and Chewbacca running from the evil empire.......

Hell, you libs may as well pick Dodd to be your person.
Diane, you're right; Clinton is the one to fear losing the general---she's just got too much baggage, too many skeletons in her closet, and not enough people in her OWN party like her.  Obama or Edwards would have a better chance of winning---AND neither is REpulican Lite, as Hillary is.
Also, John is right that all this insistence that she unearth her documents hypocritically ignores how many truly incriminating documents the GOP has hidden on the wrongdoings of past Prepublican administrations.
Ah, Jerry

I don't think Biden is a member of the dummy crowd.  Sometimes, he seems to be the only one with an intelligent response to a question.
Ah, Jerry

I don't think Biden is a member of the dummy crowd.  Sometimes, he seems to be the only one with an intelligent response to a question.

the proplem is, he probably copied it from someone else.
Dot and Topper:

I stand corrected.....
One of the very few times I admit my mistakes.....

he may have copied a few pages....
he may have a problem with words and minorities.......
But overall he is a good man.....

Don't you women wish you had a woman running for President that acts like that??????
Jerry you were thinking the same thing I was thinking. Well said.

Michelle, San Diego: Not all blacks are walking in lock step with the Democratic Party. This is the myth that the MSM portrays and most blacks fall prey to it. You ask some AA "Why do you vote Democrat?" the answer is more often than not "Because my family always does". No substance to the reason and that is why the social programs continue to capture and hold hostage our community. The Democrats know how to keep the African American vote, just say that the Republicans are going to take away welfare, food-stamps, section 8 housing, social security, disability payments, AFDC checks, etc. I hate to say it that way, but it IS THE DAMN TRUTH.
I was a VICTIM of this sh%^ but I grew up and got out of it. Ask Obama what is he going to do to get our people off of the generational social programs. SEE WHAT HE SAYS.
I agree with Jean! These boys feel threatened by a strong woman candidate so they are picking on Hillary. We women should stand up with her and say that we are not going to take it! And those "democrats" in this discussion board who are helping the male candidates pile on, you should instead focus your anger at the republicans.

Go find out more at http://www.hillaryclinton.com

Hillary '08!!
Jerry you can debate with Barack Obama all you want ... and lose. You will get facts, straight answers, and insight. Barack Obama is a candidate for all the people and he has never made a big deal out of his race.
the proplem is, he probably copied it from someone else. Topper

Not to belabor the point, but often during the debates other candidates were heard to say, " I agree with Joe" or "Joe's got it right."  So apparently he didn't copy his answers from any of them, so from who do you think he copied?  Whoever it is seems to be a very smart person; perhaps he or she should be running for president.
Jerry

Believe it or not but I agree with you respect to Senator Biden sometimes making rash off the cuff comments that are inappropriate.  That is one of the things that bothers me about his candidacy. Relations with foreign leaders might be strained by a casual remark that is found to be inapproriate.

Hillary 08

I hope that you really are supporting another candidate, and that you are actually intending to provide Democrats another reason to find Hillary objectionable. If not, and you are really trying to get people to support Hillary, you are going about it very foolishly.

If you really believe any criticism of Hillary by any Democratic candidate is gender related you are pathetic. She is the front runner! Yes she's a women, but no criticism has been gender related. Hillary is trying to be crowned the nominee without taking positions on key issues. If I were supporting her in the primary, I would be upset that she is insulting the intelligence of voters by not taking positions, and expecting voters to trust that the positions she eventually takes we'll agree with. I for one hope Democrats aren't as blind as the GOP, and won't vote for a candidate on trust alone, but will eliminate any candidate who refuses to answer questions honestly, and fully.
It's hillarious on this page. John's add appears silly and desperate but I do like his wife and I don't hate John, just unfortunate. In this election I will be voting for Barack Obama because I believe and trust him, just that simple. He inspires me to feel that America will be ok again and this country can be healed. The reason I will not vote for Mrs. Clinton is because I don't trust her and she doesn't inspire me to think things will be better or that I can believe her regardless of what she says..
Hi there guys.......Don't you have your own mind?  Remember, politics is dirty and everyone will do everything they can to destroy each one's image just to be recognized.  We are smart voters. or are you a samrt voter?  As far as I am concern, all I see on some of the candidates are pinponting someone just to have something to say.  Why don't they just concentrate on what they want to do?  All I see that is doing her plans and strategists is Clinton.  She is really smart, well intelligent.  That's why, voters are watching what these toehr guys are just doing.  Ms. Clinton, you are doing a very very good job in your campaign.  You really know how to win.  That's the good thing of having experience.
I am a 50 year old Democrat who has never voted for a Republican.  Believe me, if Obama gets the nomination that is just what I'll do.  He does not warm my heart or inspire me.  Hillary is the only candidate that can do that.  So, don't think if Obama beats Hillary that it will all be rosy.  Well, maybe it will be rosy for Rudy.... cause of people like me.
Who cares about the PLANTS?!

It's not like the questions planted are not legitimate. They are questions that might have been overlooked at some meeting. As someone WHO HAS GONE to one of Hillary's town hall meetings, I can tell you this: SHE GETS HER FAIR SHARE of HARDBALL questions.

Her town halls are open to EVERYONE. Lots of people ask questions. This is such a non-issue being completely exasburated by the media with the hopes of making the Democratic primary more interesting.

Talk about media forming an issue. Now ANYONE can come out of the woodwork and say, "Hillary's staff did this, and Hillary did that....". Of course 99.99% is going to be bogus...
ano black.muslim obama will succeed- white all epole is underdog now to the muslim/negro obama?no way jose- no expreince he dint offer a good thing t this america- hillary is caring woman and well epreience- oabma no substance- u know it an di know it- he just have that phoney promises and big voice like a cow.

at elast clitnon can beat republican for sure.
So she is NOT tough enough to handle a campaign but she IS tough enough to be president?
I am a 50 year old Democrat who has never voted for a Republican.  Believe me, if Obama gets the nomination that is just what I'll do.  He does not warm my heart or inspire me.  Hillary is the only candidate that can do that.  So, don't think if Obama beats Hillary that it will all be rosy.  Well, maybe it will be rosy for Rudy.... cause of people like me.
Joy Gilmore, Honey Grove, Texas (Sent Tuesday, November 13, 2007 2:57 PM)

Joy, no democrat would carry Texas anyway...but thank you very much for your thoughts....
Hillary Clinton is a piece of DO DO. I am a lifelong Democrat that is thinking about changing parties. My party does nothing but criticize continously. If our candidates does not present anything concrete to be examined then how can I vote for them. I fthey dont reveil anything until after the election, how can I make a judgement. Im sorry but just saying, Bush this, Bush that is not going to cut it. Bush is not running. If we dont start focusing on the general election and winning some Republicans, we might as well hang it up. Trashing Bush is only solidifying the Republican party. A 50% plus 1 majority is not going to solve jack. The only way to change things is to win some Republicans, like about 20 - 30%. Just my thoughts.
IntheMiddle, TX..............You are so right!!
The Democrats know how to keep the African American vote, just say that the Republicans are going to take away welfare, food-stamps, section 8 housing, social security, disability payments, AFDC checks, etc. I hate to say it that way, but it IS THE DAMN TRUTH.

I have been in that situation and at the rate of the economy it looks as if I maybe heading back down that
bush/republican foresaken road.

Ths Clintons are banking on the African Americans to run the white house again, I for one will not be in that corner. They know from census, statics, or polls
or what the hell their calling it now, that the
African Americans out number the White Americans.

I am a women and I have checked and researched the Clintons background and for what I have found I did not like. Bill & Hillary Clinton, 15 years of dishonesty, scandal and divisiveness.

They come with too much baggage, they are not for the poor people or the middle class people, they are for the Clintons and them alone.

Has no "EXPERIENCE" managing any communities.

We can not let her manage this country either,
it is too late in the game for her to start at the top to try and manage anything but Bill and she couldn`t even do that when she was first lady.

HRC continues to display what a corrupt, dishonest, and corporate owned entity she is, and the media continues to praise her, they can't give a coherent reason for praising her, but praise her they must, seems to be the general consensus of all her backers, we don't know why they back her but they sure as hell do, a single file line of sheep obediently marching to the slaughter-house.

Can anyone list the things that BIG Billy did for the African Americans?

I can`t, but they seem to think that what ever it was that HRC will be doing it too.
You poor misguided  people. You need to take a closer look at the  Clintons as I have said they are just for the Clintons and no one else.

Obama is for all people not just one race as he has stated we are all AMERICANS.And I sat we need to stgop playing the race card as it has  did nothing but make the African Americans that much more afraid to vote for him as they think the it will turn out just like MLK  and he wasn`t running for the president
of the U.S.A.

I say Afican Americans the time is NOW if you want to be considered equal among this sea of injustice, than get to work, do your homework, research the candidates
and choose whom is right for you. Don`t let the media
dictate to you as to whom you should vote for.

I will not be voting for HRC and that is a fact.
In fact everyone that I know don`t like that fact that she has flip flopped on so many issues or will not answer and questions that they just will vote for Edwars and I say he`s better than HRC.

We as ordinary people truly love Obama, recognize that he is genuine, honesty and that his professional choices are at the core of the man.

They can all speak against this man but he is the reall deal.
Not hiding anything and not backing down from wwhat he has stated all along.
Barack shows why he’s better and that he will not be arrogant and make assumptions about holding the office.  He reminds everyone that we’ve lived in arrogance for 7 years and that is the reason the President and the Senate made the mistake about Iraq.  He reminds everyone that this overly confident cocky attitude will lead this country into another 4-8 years of deadlock government and that our country can’t afford to make that mistake again.

It's a matter of time before everyone looks at how HRC presents herself.
HRC isn't all that much different than George Bush:

Has anyone heard from Van??????

1.  She's in the pockets of the war lobby (defense companies, Israel)

2.  She's in the pockets of the pharmaceutical companies.

3.  She's in the pockets of the energy companies.

4.  She's in the pockets of corporate America.

5.  She's in the pockets of most K Street lobbyists.

6.  She's in the pockets of the council on foreign relations.

7.  She's in the pockets of the World Trade Organization.

8.  She's in the pockets of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.

Being a Southerner? Yes in the South men still stick up for their wives. It's a real shame how you pounce on every word then twist it to your liking. Besides is there something wrong about a gent standing up for his wife? Think about the 2000 election..Al Gore won the popular vote. Where in the constitution does it say the Supreme Court has the last word. What is the point in voting if the popular vote does not count? I just hope whoever wins on the democratic side does not make the same mistake as Dukakis & Ferraro. Pick a good running mate Hillary...Pick Bill.
The wind of change we can believe in is blowing. Jesus was not more experienced than Moses or his other disciples to carry on with the work set out for him by God. So why do we talk about Hill. Clinton been more experienced. Obama need no long resume of Cheney-Rumsfeld experience. He's got what America needs at these very crucial times; sincerity, hope, courage, dialogue, and most of all trust in his fellow citizen. Let's push rather than pull him, for he is the only tree standing in the democratic forest.
Regarding the GOP petition on Hillary and Bill's documents. If they are getting people to sign a petion to speed the release of documents then I will dedicate my web site to ask for All of Reagan-Bush and Bush Quale Documents to be released also. I will post that site here and over the web in a few days.
I agree that Hillary's Campaign is doing a poor job for two weeks keeping a lid on things.  She is having the worse two weeks of her campaign.  Having watched politics for a long time, I do not know that she can recover from this, but while she is wounded, Bill Clinton should STOP TALKING about it.

On Obama, I have the same fear that the Republicans will "eat him alive" in the general election.

If I had to choose a Dem Candidate that could win a general election "dirty politics gladiator words sparring match"....Biden or Dodd come to mind, with Bill Richardson a close third.  It is just that the country does not know them as well as Hillary.

Fellow Democrats,

Need your help to decide. On Social Security, Hillary said we need fiscal responsibility first and follow it up with bi-partisan group.

Obama initially said Hillary has no position and then said Hillary only wants fiscal responsibility to solve Social Security. When asked by Tim Russert what you will do, Obama said I will have a bipartisan group and raise the cap limit to tax people more.

Where am I losing it? Who is telling the truth? Also, why have a bi partisan group if you want to raise tax?

Can some enlightened Democrat help me with my confusion of who is saying what?

From one college educated professional woman for Biden to another,

I agree wholeheartedly.
