First thoughts: Rudy's big-state gamble

*** Rudy’s big-state gamble: The Giuliani campaign yesterday appeared to have some success in getting many members of the national press corps to write -- if not completely buy into -- the idea that it doesn’t need to win in the early states because of the big delegate payoffs later in January (Florida) and February (Tsunami Tuesday). Does this mean the campaign is now backing off New Hampshire, where Giuliani has spent A LOT of time recently? And is the campaign panicking here in the wake of two new polls showing that Romney’s lead in the Granite State is growing? Giuliani is not the first candidate to attempt to get the national press to downplay the early states in hopes for wins later, and it rarely works. That said, Giuliani's the first national front-runner to try this. Of course, what happens to the Giuliani national poll lead if he loses Iowa, Wyoming, New Hampshire, and Michigan between January 3 and January 15?  Something will give. That said, if Giuliani breaks through early, it is true he'll be nearly impossible to stop come February 5. The question is getting to that date with his national lead intact. Here's First Read's report.

*** Fred’s shot in the arm: In DC today, the National Right to Life Committee holds a press conference in which the group will announce it’s endorsing Fred Thompson. It appears Thompson won’t attend the presser in person; instead, he’s in South Carolina, where he speaks at the Citadel in Charleston and then does a meet-and-greet at the NASCAR Cafe in Myrtle Beach. The Right to Life nod is a BIG deal. The group spends real money when it backs someone; it's akin to a major labor nod for a Dem candidate. This could be particularly helpful to Thompson in Iowa and South Carolina, where he needs an organizational boost. In fact, it may be why Right to Life picked Thompson -- a major candidate to whom it could make a real difference, therefore potentially having more influence should he get the nod. Could this be for Thompson what the Firefighters were for Kerry in 2004?

*** Desperation time? No one is working Iowa harder than Edwards is, as the New York Times writes today. But is there also a hint of desperation here? “Mr. Edwards often says there is much at stake in this campaign, and his pace and rhetoric reflect his perceived urgency. He has sharpened his criticisms of Mrs. Clinton so much that [Obama supporter] Gordon Fischer, chairman of the Iowa Democratic Party when Mr. Edwards campaigned in 2004, said his demeanor was ‘much more of an attack dog’ than before.” Also, don’t miss that Edwards is refusing to say that he would endorse Hillary Clinton if she becomes the nominee. And, by the way, Edwards goes up with a new TV ad today in Iowa focused on health care.

*** Vote for Tancredo or Die: So the Tancredo campaign unveiled its first TV ad -- the image of a terrorist blowing up a shopping mall. It's the type of ad that one might have expected from Tancredo when his campaign started -- that is, a "shock jock" type of ad. But, frankly, he's been such a non-factor lately that this smells of a candidate desperate for attention. The message of the ad, essentially: Vote for Tancredo or die.

*** On the trail: Edwards continues to campaign in New Hampshire; McCain attends a luncheon in Chicago before hitting fundraising events in Dallas; Obama speaks to the United Auto Workers in Dubuque, IA, a day after some of his Dem rivals addressed the group; Paul meets with voters in Dixville Notch, NH; Richardson raises money in California; and -Romney campaigns in Iowa. Also, Elizabeth Kucinich, in California, speaks to Democrats at Cal Poly.

Vote for Tancredo or die.

I guess that's one way to get votes LOL.

If John Edwards does not make it, he can always put his money and resources aside and wait for the next time.  Giving Hillary Clinton an endorsement is pretty stupid.  Why run against her if you are going to support her?
tancredo is using the bush/cheney playbook, used by all repubs, scare the hell out of the fools and get elected thru fear and smear, it apparrently works, I guess the repubs are right most americans are just stupid.
Edwards knew Clinton and what she is really about while serving in the senate.  And since he is not in the senate anymore, is free of having to show or pretend unity with a nominee he obviously feels is unsuited to the job and has things about her that makes him uncomfortable.
Many democrats feel the same as Edwards.  Like myself.  I do not trust or feel Hillary should be president and has many things about her that causes alot of unease and I will not vote for her at all.  Hillary does not represent what a democrat is and is not about anything other than the promoting and glory of Hillary.
I would love to see Edwards team up with Obama to keep this woman from the nomination for the good of the party and the good of the country.
BAD  NEWS  FOR  RUDY      Califonia Repub. Assembly supports Mitt Romney . The big state game plan is falling apart for Rudy . With Mitt Romney leading in the first five states to vote,it looks like Mitt Is going to win over all.
I see the Supreme court may hear a case on the 2 amendment gun rights, we will see if the right wing court protects individual rights or not, if not the nra will have to ask why support repubs who take their guns.
It's pretty tough for anyone to go and talk to the United Auto Workers these days.  Liberals going over there to hold their hands and tell them it is going to be alright while they are having their jobs cut.  It's a little hard to promise them things when the union knows the candidates are lying out their teeth.  All you can do is listen and learn.
Why does First Read and HardBall think when Obama goes after Clinton it makes sense and when Edwards does, it is desperation?  It is clear to many voters that NBC has given instructions to First Read and Hardball to dismiss Edwards and trash everything he stands for. I can only assume that it is very difficult for Todd and Mathews to sleep at night being  mouthpieces for this type of "Ordered" reporting.

EDWARDS 08!

Edwards... he's toast...
there's something that peole dislike about him, even though his ideas are great.

Poll: Obama, Clinton Virtually Tied
Web Editor: Michael King
Last Modified: 11/12/2007 10:25:12 PM

WASHINGTON - Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama are essentially tied for the Democratic presidential nomination, according to a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll, the first time that the New York senator hasn't clearly led the field.

The Illinois senator bests Clinton by a single percentage point, 30%-29%, if the contest includes former vice president Al Gore.

Clinton bests Obama by a single point, 37%-36%, if it doesn't include Gore.

The survey of 310 Democrats and 160 independents who "lean" Democratic, taken Friday through Sunday, has a margin of error of +/- 5 percentage points.

That really bad news for the dog. Good luck with your poll, I'm sure it's spot-on. Now forgive me but as I have submitted a long post in hopes of ridding this space of a pest, I will be taking the next few hours (at least) off.
Here's the link to RCP and polls that do not involve the demise of family pets...

Van

God Grace, what are you thinking?

Van must be shredding his fingers pounding the computer looking for polls to show you wrong LOL.......

Either that or he in executive session over at the national Hillary headquarters.....
Tancredo and his campaign should be ashamed for airing that hysterical ad. Time for Tommy-boy to renew the prescription for the psychoactive drugs that kept him out of Vietnam. The Republicans are an unbelievable group....
Rudy's strategy: Garner support from the states that won't vote Repub in the general.

*** Vote for Tancredo or Die: Appalling.
I wouldn't endorse CLinton either if I didn't win.

There's a big trend developing- any other politician who actually works with her, HATES her.  She's deceptive and evil.  The Public is just starting to catch on.  The Clinton campaign is crumbling by the day with missteps and bad moves.

There WILL be a revolution this election cycle.  We WILL see change!  Watch Barack Obama speak, read about his past, his ability to bring people together (very much unlike Hillary, Hillary thinks blaming Republicans for everything wrong is being 'bipartisan'), and you'll want to join the revolution, too.

REAL CHANGE!  REAL PEOPLE!  BETTER POLITICS! A BETTER WORLD!
BARACK OBAMA '08
Vote for Tancredo or an illegal alien will take your job and kill your family have pretty much been his only message from the beginning.
BOOGEDY BOOGEDY BOO!!!
Three new polls from safe states in 2004 show Hillary and Rudy in toss-ups, in Connecticut, Georgia, and Tennessee. Fascinating numbers, check them out: http://www.campaigndiaries.com/2007/11/three-states-that-were-not-close-at-all.html
edwards must be doing pretty good since the press is writing negative articles about him again, to the corporate owned media edwards is seen as someone who wants the corporate lobbyists taken down a few notches in d.c., that does not fit their agenda of business as usual.

edwards has the best plans on all the major issues, geared toward the consumer, removing the monopoly status of big business and promoting true competition in the market place, something that is often touted but never truly seen in this country.

I will be voting for edwards because he is not afraid to 'tell it like it is' something the other so called frontrunners have a real problem doing.

we don't have a nominee until the votes are cast contrary to the rubbish the media spews forth on a daily basis, I am one of the many that could support some of the other dem candidates if edwards is not nominated, I am all so one of the many that doesn't see hillary as an acceptable alternative, 'bush-lite' is an all to accurate description of the corporate sell-out hillary, we need a change of direction in the way politics in this nation are conducted, edwards offers that, hillary doesn't.
Copied and pasted from dictionary.com:

ter·ror·ism-

1. the use of violence and threats to intimidate or coerce, esp. for political purposes.
2. the state of fear and submission produced by terrorism or terrorization.
3. a terroristic method of governing or of resisting a government.

That ad is literally terrorism.
It's a good thing Gore and the liberals have terrorized children over global warming to the point they might not notice Tancredo's over the top ad.  We all know something like a bomb in a mall could never happen unlike New York being 20 ft under water.

Grace, I think that's why van is no longer with us.
Trouble at the Clinton DeathStar.

I'm afraid me and jerry 'Swift Boated' van.
(I hope you're HAPPY, JERRY !!).

I remember when van first got her, he said he was like Jet Li, able to fight many at one time.....
He said he'd bring 'truth' and 'justice
to this blog ..... ( ;-0 )
I suspect van was 5' 1" and physically unattractive.

van was an 'apparatchik' for Team Clinton.
He had said he attended Hillary's birthday bash (with the 'little lady') and sat in the 7th row !!

Only Clinton clones could sit in the 7th row.
Attendance at that party was $2,300 per person !!
Only committed Clintonistas could attend that one....

Bye, bye van, RIP !!

OH! MK, MO and Lyn, MD, you're partly to blame.
Both of you were part of the Obama 'hit squad', spewing 'hate speech' as per van.

Bye, bye van (and 'bb' and 'g' and 'z' and 'BionicWoman' and 'Susan, Miami' and 'Stu, Saginaw' and 'Psychic Mary' and 'Bubba'......)
Gee, van....

I thought you said you were leaving, yesterday....

What happened ?
(How can I miss you if you won't go away ?)

Tough times at the Clinton DeathStar ?
Tell Hillary to try a new strategy, Thursday night:

 'tell the truth'

That'll shake up the race, van !
It'll throw everybody off !

Where does she stand on IDs for illegal aliens ?
Will she raise SS taxes or cut SS benefits ?
What situation will lead Hillary to remove all troops from Iraq ?
Will Hillary attack Iran ?
If so, WHY ?
If not, WHY did she vote for Lieberman-Kyl ?
Will Hillary release all her White House records ?
If not, WHY NOT ?
What is Hillary hiding from her White House years ?
How does Hillary define torture ?
Under what circumstances will she approve torture ?

The list goes on, van....

Hillary Clinton, cold, calculating, dishonest, unethical
The Tancredo ad is an OUTRAGE!  That is the most preposterous piece of propaganda I've ever seen.  Even the Bush Administration wouldn't create an ad like that.  Tancredo should admit the ad was a lapse in judgement, concede defeat in the primary, and withdraw from the race.  There should no longer be a place for fear and scare tactics in American politics.
I'm just rattling your cage today for MY amusement.
You dwell, with Jerry, Sierra and several others in an irony-free zone that, while it can make my skin CRAWL on occasion, never approaches getting under it.
You guys are more like watching the ants in an anthill; It's disgusting and fascinating at the same time, and if you've been raised right, you don't step on it, and I try not to.
Today, I'm messin' with the hill a little, not stepping on it though, because I want to be able to go back to watching the antics of the little critters tomorrow...

Van
Bravo Brad, Tancredo's ad definitely fits the definition of the word "terrorism."
those who believed garce's post (bee sierra jerry) you've been PUNKED!

LOL...I doubt, if we have sen the last of him...not yet anyway.
Excuse me, but...just suppose that Obama gets the nomination....Is Rudy still our best bet? Think about it. Haven't we all looked at him as the candidate that could beat Hillary and ignored his rather liberal social positions?  Isn't Thompson a better counter to the likeable but naive and inexperienced Obama? Add his consistent pro-life record and the match-up looks better and better.  Just a thought.

After watching and listening to that girl in Alaska have a baby over global warming, I have to wonder what other children have been tormented by these eco-nutjobs.  I had to explain to my kid that, no, the water will not be rushing into the house and no my Sunday BBQ's are not the reason there is global warming.

They played Al Gore's nutjob movie at my kid's school last week.  Spent the weekend telling him that 3/4 of that movie is a bit WRONG.

This is what I'm talking about, what I emailed you about, and what doesn't belong here. You KNOW who's been doing it from the start and the lack of auditing/moderating is poor stewardship IMO.
Van is leaving? Did I miss something over the weekend?
The GOP wants obama as the nominee...

obama is completely unvetted....
how many here know that he has strong mafia ties?
how many here know that his minister preaches "white hate"

anyone wonder why the gop has treated him with kid gloves? He'll be shredded like taco bell lettuce if he's the nominee

Since when has T.D. Jakes been know to preach "white hate", please get your facts straight. You sound really hateful.

It is the 25% of Gore's truth that will kill you.

Terrorism in political ads goes back to at least the '64 campaign.  Something about Goldwater, an atomic bomb and a little girl?  Possibly run by Democrats?

Tancredo's scenario kills far fewer people than an atomic bomb, so which party's representatives are the bigger terrorists and fear mongers.

Apparently the image of a U.S. Republican presidential candidate blowing up the world was just effective advertising but a U.S. Republican presidential candidate suggesting that a foreign terrorist might blow up a mall is terrorism.

Ah, the Alice in Wonderland world of lib/Dem political "thought".
Bunny - I think if Obama wins the nomination, it will be almost impossible to find a nominee to beat him.  All in all, Giuliani probably has a better shot than Thompson, but it will still be an uphill battle either way, given the combination of Obama's record and his likeability; the idea that he's inexperienced is a Clinton campaign narrative that will die with her candidacy if she loses the primary, as Obama has more time in elected office than any of the top three candidates in either party.

In my opinion, at this point, I think you guys should go with a Paul nomination; just go for the long shot, and even if you lose, you've helped mend the GOP brand in the long term.  Otherwise, with another George W. Bush Republican as the nominee most Americans are never going to view Republicans as the party of individual freedom, fiscal responsibility, or small government again.

Just a friendly suggestion from an independent.

Richard, Washington State (Sent Tuesday, November 13, 2007 1:16 PM)"

Ummm... hey, Richard?  That add you referenced from 1964 (because that's current and relevant to today's politics?) was ran ONCE and was condemned by the party after it aired. But somehow I don't think the Republicans are willing to call out Tancredo for being that bats--t crazy idiot that he is.

Ya see... when liberals step over the line we take corrective measures. Policies get reworked.  Stances get reconsidered. When conservatives step over the line, on the other hand, they get the Medal of Freedom and a full pardon. Can you see the difference? (NOTE: This is a rhetorical question. I know that you don't see the difference.  It's called sarcasm and the right would get alot more of the jokes if the could figure that concept out.)
The future of our nation looms arch over the Iowa primary.

Clinton already has the nod from the global capitalists and that is usually more than enough.

But... if she lets Obama walk away from this with even a squeaker, all bets are off.

Obama is also trusted... and guess what?  Bill and Hillary will be right there with him if he wins the nomination...

...so right now, just for a frozen moment, the powers and principalities ponder a three-for with Obama driving.

If Obama can pull it off...

Mark Thieme:

Same for Tancredo.  That Gore's 25% of "truth" is based on speculative models and scientific "consensus" should give us all great confidence. There is more precedent in support of  Tancredo's scenario.

CitizenJ:

What does the Bible have to do with the discussion of global warming and Al Gore's take on it?  Other than that a great deal of it has to be taken on faith?

Temperatures are up, the thermometers say so.  Aside from that, which of many models and variations of scientifically supported consensus are you going to put your faith in?
