Rove as Edwards, Obama strategist?

Posted: Thursday, November 15, 2007 5:49 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC’s Andy Merten
Since leaving the White House and doing the Sunday morning show circuit, Karl Rove’s take on the 2008 presidential election seems to have changed little. He still believes Hillary Clinton will be the Democratic nominee next year and considers her to be a “fatally flawed” candidate. But he’s upping the ante on the criticism.

“I’ve been surprised at how weak Edwards and Obama have been,” Rove told C-SPAN’s Steve Scully today during a live question-and-answer session with students at three different universities across the country. As if to poke at the fire that in the pending Democratic nomination process, he continued, saying, “They’re both going to give her some scares; she’s going to lose some thing along the way, possibly starting with Iowa.”

Rove went on to provide a little unsolicited advice for the Obama campaign, saying that the Illinois senator has faltered in creating a strong moment of contrast between himself and his opponents during debates. Citing Clinton’s vague answer regarding the release of White House papers during her tenure as first lady, Rove said Obama has had “a number of occasions like that, where a sharp and clear and respectful contrast really could’ve created a moment.”

The former Bush adviser and chief strategist also expressed some surprise with the current GOP field, although he had nothing negative to say about his fellow Republicans. Asked if told six months ago Giuliani would be sitting atop his party’s national presidential polling, he said, “I would’ve raised an eyebrow, and I think Rudy Giuliani has done a very good job at staying on top of the Republican field longer than I anticipated, and with a substantial amount of political support from people I would not have thought he’d be able to draw.”

He went on to call Romney’s organization a “textbook campaign” and drew a contrast to the amount of media attention the former governor’s Mormon religion has garnered when compared to his father’s presidential run in 1967. Rove said that while he was still at the White House, he got some interns together to see how many front-page articles in major publications were devoted to the Michigan governor’s religion and said he found much fewer than today. He attributed part of this to timing, only seven years after Kennedy’s Catholicism had been a point of concern.

But it’s worth pointing out that increased media attention to Romney’s faith is likely due to public polling showing a full third of the population in 2007 saying they would not vote for a Mormon. That is much higher than when Romney’s father was on the political scene.

And asked about how he sees next year’s general election playing out, Rove made no bones about his prediction (or preference?) that Clinton will be the Democratic nominee. In order for Republicans to win, he said, the party must “articulate a strong and positive and optimistic agenda,” warning, “It’s not enough to simply say, ‘I’m not her.’”

This is why Newsweek was wrong to give Rove a voice.  He is not conservative and he does not have opinions. He is not interested in honest debate--only manipulation.  Would you like to read an opinion piece by Niccilo Machiavelli?
Thank you to Hillary , who had the gumption to speak clearly about Obamas and Edwards pandering. i'd support her any day in bringing the truth. Obama in my opinion purposely missed the vote on calling Iranians terrorists, since they helped kill our soldiers in Iraq and their is plenty of proof that they do and did. Him and Edwards also voted for China's trade agreement now only to turn against the aggreement. Thank you Hillary for exposing them.

Yeah, right, you're a Dem. Personally, I'd go for Jared from the Subway commercials over Huck in a second.
Never think Rove isn't up to something.  Rove has stated "privately" that he thinks Clinton will be the nominee, and should be the nominee.  He wanted Kerry to be the nominee too, because he would be the easiest to beat.  He knows Hillary Clinton will galvanize the Republican party and will create a huge turnout against her.
Karl Roves vile poison did not work in 2006.  That's why the Democrats won control of Congress in 2006.  If Karl Roves vile poison still worked the Republicans still would have retained their majority in Congress in 2006.  I think some day soon Karl Rove is going to have a massive heart attack. If he has a massive heart attack his vile poison will be long long gone.  I think Karl Rove he will have a massive heart attack before Dick Cheney will. I think some day soon Karl Rove is going to get a taste of his own vile poison.  Someday soon Karl Roves low down dirty tricks are going to backfire.  Karl Rove thinks that he is someone very important.  Karl Rove is really a nobody.  Someday soon Karl Rove is going back to the dust. Someday soon a lot of close friends and people that Karl Rove knows are going to turn against him. Someday soon Karl Rove will be isolated from everybody just exactly like the way North Korea is isolated from the world.
Did anyone bother to ask him if the poll calling on Mormons was one of his dirty tricks.
Someone should remind Mr. Rove that he needs to be careful with what he does during this election. If not connected to any campaign he could find his self standing in court with out that blanket protection that Boss Crook Bush offered him.
Karl's making SURE that Hillary wins the Democratic nomination.  He knows that any GOP candidate has a better chance of beating her that Obama, Edwards, Dodd or Richardson.

It's called reverse Psychology.

Why do we think Rove is dissing Obama and Edwards-hmm-perhaps he'd like the far left to work even harder to bring Hillary down?  They are totally afraid of Hillary and they should be- She will become our next President and begin to rebuild all that they have attempted to destroy in our country.
I get it mainstream media! YOU DON'T WANT EDWARDS FOR THE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE! Hillary is unelectable-ALL Republicans loathe her, as well as millions of Dems and Independents-Edwards beats every Republican SOUNDLY_What else do the Dems need to know! Karl Rove plainly said that the Dems would nominate a fatally flawed candidate-I take it as a warning-Hillary is a mistake-even if she DID get elected, she is totally bought and paid for-she even outranks that Republicans for corporate money, and that is remarkable-if you like the way things are going in this country, she's your girl!
Leave it to Karl Rove to have something to say on this topic.  That he WAS a "brilliant strategist" for the present disaster in Office is widely recognized!  Rather than commenting on Edwards or Obama, he could be hanging his head in shame for his part in supporting the Killing, the Profiteering, the dismantling of this Constitution, and many more crimes he has been in Collusion to Create!  Of course, in keeping with the Republican Playbbok, he will still try his best to FRAME public opinion to create character assassination of others to continue to ENABLE the Vision (Sociopathic)that has been unleashed upon our World by him and his friends!  Perhaps, he/they are so afraid of those "they" attack, now they must support Hillary Clinton as one they feel the population will not elect for various bigoted reasons!  Go write your book, Mr. Rove.  It will have to be real good to overcome all these crimes against Life!  Peace, Jane22
Anything Rove has to say has to be taken with a partisan grain of salt....he is always going to give views filtered through his neonut agenda.  Please disregard any commentary by Rove as pure crap.
Rovie, my boy. You said you've been surprised at "how weak" Edwards and Obama have been. Rovie, have you been surprised "how weak" your boy George Bushie has been? Rovie, don't look now but I think I see a subpoena headed your way!
Rovie, "religious conservatives may stay home in '08". What a shame it would be if the immoral minority right wingnuts in the repub party didn't vote in '08. Who knows what kind of mess this country might end up getting in to without their votes? Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot they voted in '00 and '04 and now we're already in a mess.
Rove , is upto something. He did not leave the Bush white house just to write a column. He has proven he knows how to win elections.
Rove is a very brilliant marketing talent and strategist.  While I hope Hillary runs and agree with his assessment of Edwards and Obama he neglected to mention Edward's anger [prosecuting attorney], and Obama's inability to articulate his positions clearly. Talking about hope is not enough. GOP would eat these guys alive. Smart comment about Guiliani.

Rove should never be underestimated. He is a master strategist and can find the right word frames out of air.  He's a formidable opponent.
