Clinton first out with debate videos

Posted: Friday, November 16, 2007 10:49 AM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
Clinton is the first out with post-debate videos, splicing moments from last night. And, of course, there's a Contribute link.

Here's a quick overview of the videos:
Video 1: Clinton hitting Edwards with her "mud," "Republican playbook" and staying positive comment.

Video 2: Clinton hitting Obama on Obama's health care plan. They leave out Obama's response.

Video 3: Clinton saying she's not "exploiting the gender card," she's "playing the winning card." But then she repeats her "kitchen" comment and then, what's not seen, is Clinton going on about how happy women are to see her running for president.

Video 4: Clinton talking about how she's running to be "president of the entire country" and talks about working with Republicans. Just a thought, then why is her new slogan "Turn up the heat" on Republicans, as she said at the Iowa JJ Dinner?

Video 3: When asked if she was using the gender card but then in the same breath she said her "comfortable in the kitchen" line. Isn't that playing the gender card?!?!? I'm a woman and insulted by these remarks. I hope other women do not vote for someone simply because they are a woman!!

Video 4: My thought exactly. She talked about how she could bring the republicans together. PLEASE...her new slogan is "Turn up the heat" and at the JJ dinner and previous debates all she ever talks about is fighting the republicans. Clinton wants to fight and Obama wants to unite. Nuff said!!
Does Senator Clinton look like "Big Bird" to anyone else?
At least the First Read readership haven't been falling for the Clintonian evasiveness and doublespeak.  I only hope that the rest of the public sees through her charade.  Will the L.A. debate offer better crowd control?  That booing, was sort of like listening to the meanness of a bunch of
Republicans...oh yeah, they were Hillary supporters.
Obama '08
Manipulative to her very core is this woman.  To say she's "not playing the gender card" and then blather on and on about how touched she is that 95 year old women are coming up to her in Iowa and so darn proud to vote for the first woman President and "conveniently" leave that part out of her video is very telling...or how about "I feel very comfortable in the kitchen"...gag...how about planting questions at campaign events?  AND one last point...obviously her buddy Rupert Murdoch and CNN helped her stack the audience.  Very objective of you CNN!  Give me Tim Russert because Wolf Blitzer and CNN are the LEAST objective news channel (next to FOX).  Finally, more George Bush and corporate deals are what we get with Shrillary.  No thanks.
Yeah, and pay attention to how Wolf Blitzer REFUSED to let John Edwards respond to Clinton, whereas he let everyone else respond to charges from other candidates.

What would Edwards' response have been?

"SHE'S THE ONE PLANTING QUESTIONS IN AUDIENCES...LIKE BUSH IS."

Wolf Blitzkrieg made sure that Edwards didn't get a chance to put her in her place.
I think i am going to gain some weight today. I went and bought a box of pop corn. I think  i am going to need it today. I just grab my first bag and open my pop. It is going to be so fun to watch all the rage and cry for fault troughout the day. A lot of fun
What is this the Hillary Clinton for President campaign site?  Goodness gracious, how about some objectivity here?
I'm sure that the other guys will be out with their highlights soon too. Well, Biden anyway...

Many anti-Hillary posts with names I've never seen here before. Increased traffic? Hmmmm...

She truly makes me ill.  This country can't possibly be so stupid as to nominate this woman to run on the democratic ticket.

There is no way she will win in a general election.

I suspect its all from the same person Van because its all unreasonable commentary and filled with virtiol!  Obviously these people didn't watch the debate.
Van,

First Read readership is full of 10-15 Obama supporters, and they keep posting the same lies and deception.

Obama supporters have to converge at a place where they can only hear themselves.
If she wasn't playing the gender card, why the pant-suit comment early on?
Actually, the "kitchen" phrase was coined by Harry Truman.
Want to call him a sissy?
Steph:  The "if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen" line is a Harry Truman line.  It's hardly playing the gender card.  And as for Clinton wants to fight and Obama wants to unite, I agree.  But I suspect the Republicans are not going to wage a kinder and gentler campaign if Obama gets the nomination.  The fact that he's approaching it this way shows either that he's full of it or that he'll get creamed.  After all, this is politics and the object is to win the general election, isn't it?
You gonna sue the woman just cause she's more efficient and organized than her rivals?  Guess you prefer the sort of effiency and organization we see from the current administration?
Wow!  Nice shilling for Clinton, guys.  I guess she promised GE all kinds of goodies.

But of course Van the trolls will be a bashing as always. I scroll by the unknowns, read the ones I want.
Hillary was powerful and presidential!!!!
Seriously, what is Hillary's position on Social Security? She wants to balance the budget (who doesn't) and sit down and talk. Please, someone with any knowledge of Clintons position outside of the vague response reply. Gracias. If she wins the nod, I want to support her, but she has to be more specific.
How many starry-eyed 95 year olds does Hillary know, anyway?
Is Hillary in the videos? You'd think they could get Beyonce or someone else, you know to liven things up a little.
Once again the media is calling this a big win for Clinton for reasons that escape me.  I was decidedly under-whelmed and thought that, while she didn't have a real stumble, she was stiff, stone faced and robotic.

As nasty as the Clintons get in attacking opponents, hearing her complain about mud-slinging is pretty amusing as is Bill's defense of his little girl against the boys.

It's frustrating that her lame reasoning for supporting the neocon Kyl/Lieberman amendment that was written exactly to Bushie specs for obvious reasons, doesn't get her into more trouble with overwhelmingly anti-war Dems.  She's a hawk.  That's why she votes the way she does.  If your not a hawk, she's not your "gal".  Period.

And While the Clinton fans booed Edwards robustly, everything he said about Clinton being an old style, corporate lobbyists' best friend pol(in so many words) is demonstrably true.

Thought Obama was pretty weak, Edwards was made to appear weaker by the probably orchestrated Hillary boosters and Biden, Dodd and Richardson ALL did much better than Hillary.

And I too, noticed that, as usual, the media put their thumb on the Clinton/Obama as stars scale by placing them in the center and Edwards, who is right up there with them in Iowa, off to the side.

Kucinech was in his most prissy scold mold. Not that it matters much.

And am I the only one who finds Wolf Blitzer to be a really silly moderator.  He just loves the raise your hand, yes or no questions that create gotcha moments, not an opportunity to debate issues.

We voters are perfectly capable of deciding whether we got a straight answer without Wolfie making like Perry Mason.  The candidates ought to join together and refuse to participate when he pulls that "just shut up and say yes or no" nonsense. They should all say they didn't come to take an oral true or false quiz. They came to discuss the issues.

For instance, the situation in Pakistan is NOT about making a choice between democracy and security. Backing repressive regimes has always backfired and never made us more secure in the long term. Their is little evidence that Musharref is doing much to combat the Taliban and Al Qaeda or that busting all the educated pro-democracy lawyers, judges and teachers helps fight terrorism.  The candidates ought to have pointed out that there was not much  point in answering yes or no to a question based on such a deficient premise instead of letting Blitzer bully them.

Ditto for those moderators who pose the torture VS security question since torture mainly results in bad info and is primarily used to obtain the scenarios the torturing regime needs to advance its agenda as well as to suppress citizens through terror, not to get accurate information.

In a real ticking time bomb situation, torture is very likely going to send people off in the wrong direction instead of saving the day "24" style, but ignorant moderators keep posing the false choice in yes or no terms anyway

Another not very enlightening,  media anointed star slanted debate, all told.  Unfortunately this is all the media has been willing to give us.  The after debate analysis is usually, if anything, even sillier than the sophomoric debate format foisted upon us by the lazy,  often not terribly bright or informed media.
'If she wasn't playing the gender card, why the pant-suit comment early on?' - NSMSNBC

She is a woman, there are certain thing that are going to be gender oriented, do you expect her to show up in a 3 piece suit and paint a mustache on her face???

I think she did great, came out swinging and stuck to the plan.

Edwards didn't do much, I don't think he hurt himself as much as everyone is saying he did, I think he was actually in danger of getting the 'angry' candidate label.

Obama ... hehehe ... drivers license ... hehehe ... waffles anyone?

I loved Biden, as usual he was spot on last night, definately my second choice if Hillary implodes. and I thought Richerdson stuck out for once.  I thought Kucinich seemed a little kranky.

Maria Luisa, the UNLV student who asked Hillary Clinton whether she preferred "diamonds or pearls" at last night's debate wrote on her MySpace page this morning that CNN forced her to ask the question and violated a promise that she could also query Clinton on Yucca Mountain.

My< My , My....but the "boys" aren't whinning.

Go back to the kitchen Hillary where you say you are comfortable and by your size where you spend most of your time
What about the video of her and Social Security?......
Sorry, Hillary's biggest moment was when she sucessfully FLIP FLOPPED on IDs for illegal aliens !
She also flip flopped on NAFTA

She was evasive and non responsive on questins

If Clinton supporters are excited by this, they must be easy to please !!
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

And Obama did give an involved answer, but he stuck to his guns on IDs for illegal aliens.
Honesty counts
Integrity counts
(unless you're a Clinton Cultist)

Hillary had good debating tactics
But her strategy is a loser
Being evasive about your positions ?
THAT'S LEADERSHIP ?
Appointing a COMMISION to fix Social Security ?
That's leadership ?

She got caught on raising the income limits on SS
She told someone she would raise the limit, now she denies it

A long term loss for Hillary

(shhh, shhhhhh don't tell the cultists that Hillary became a part of of the pack, last night)
(cancel that coronation)
I continue to be amazed about how threatened some women seem to be by a strong, determined, focused woman.  The same qualities they decry in Hillary they applaud in the male candidates.  And of course she's manipulative.  Do you think the other candidates are not?  How do you think they got where they are?  In my book she's the smartest, toughest, most experienced and most likely to be a successful President.  And I'm sick of people lambasting her about references to her gender.  She was the ONLY one last night who was asked by an audience member if she preferred pearls or diamonds.  Hillary is not the one who initiates comments about being a woman.
Natalie,

We all know CNN planted all the questions to make Hillary looks good. She is so phony and we all know that. We knew her audience was planted and the questions were all shady.

If Democrats think they can get her beyond Republican by playing this stupid game, they are in trouble.

Hillary cannot be trusted on all issues.

CNN forced her to ask regarding silly stuffs. More of the same old B.S.
Cherie, Des Moines, IA:
Great post.  Also, CNN allowing the audience to cheer and even boo was ridiculous. This brought the level down to a middle school election.
Obama/Webb '08
Hillary was a shining star last night.  Edwards & Omaba were whiny kids, Hillary stood out above them all.  I would like to see Gov. Richardson or Sen. Biden as her running mate.

I also want to thank CNN for the wonderful job that Wolf Blitzer, Campbell Brown and John Roberts did as moderators.  They were totally different than their "foaming at the mouth" counterparts at MSNBC, Tim Russert and Chris Matthews.   Thank you.  I don't know if I will ever watch MSNBC again, CNN is my choice now.

Hillary did a wonderful job, I am thrilled and can't wait to go to the polls to vote for her.

My husband too!!!!!

LOL
MORE PLANTED QUESTIONS???????

Once this gets out to the world, this will prove once and for all that Hillary Clinton is not woman enough to be President of the United States.
natalie... do you understand the written language?

how was she force to ask a question she submitted, and where in that article does it say she was promised something else>

how many audience members got to ask 2 questions.

Dazed and Confused in DC: The line about the kitchen wasn't what I had a problem with. It was when she goes on to say "I'm very comfortable in the kitchen" that gets me. I understand the Repubs are not going to wage a gentle campaign and when he talks about how he wants to unite he is explaining how he will govern as President, but he has also said he will not back down from a fight during the campaign. He will not let them swiftboat him!!
Kareen McCarthy, Somers, New York: "And of course she's manipulative.  Do you think the other candidates are not?"

Um, hello, no! I wouldn't vote for someone who I think is manipulative. Obama tells you what he thinks straight up and he doesn't change his message based on his audience.
The more the Hillary haters try to deny that their hopes and dreams were dashed in the desert by a better prepared and more capable candidate, the more her supporters are laughing with delight.

Van
i think that hillary proved she  has what it takes to lead this country out of the mess george bush and the rest of his party put us in george bush and his people have destoried this country hopely it will take the gop another  200 years to get power back my hope is they never do

Van
Of course Cnn is Clinton News Network, they planted all the question to make Hillary look good. People those questionner didn't have gun on their head to ask question. I find it dishonest and more manipulative that they accept to do and then denounce it later on. The easy way is to say non and then denounce it.
Yeah all the people there were all planted i am telling you. geeeezz
Should could stand to lose a pound or two...but that's my girl...fat and all

Van
mike oh (Sent Friday, November 16, 2007 11:50 AM):  You know what, yes, yes I did.  I was suprised she didn't scratch her nutsack too.  No, of course, I don't expect her to throw her gender away, but she did make a specific point to mention her pant suit.  Why did she even make the comment in the first place if not to draw attention to her gender?  She could have said anything in the whole wide world but she sought out an asbestos pant suit ... 'pretty itchy and uncomfortable I would imagine.'

B.H. Obama:  He clearly stated many times that his immigration position is to secure the borders and stop the jobs.  I also stated that he refuses to believe doing those two things aren't possible.  He supports licenses in the meantime for national security, to reduce traffic accidents and insurance woes.  I agree that the way in which he said it wasn't a 30 second soundbite, but that is hardly a flailing position.

At least if you are going to attack somebody, don't lie or make stuff up ... oh? your supporting a Clinton, I guess I'm just talking to a wall, because I don't think I could instill you with morals.
lets talk ads. hill's got a new one with bill trotting on the exercise machine and then her. this tells me she knows she's in trouble, trotting out bill to hit the nostalia of preidency's past. i didn't see bill on the stage last night so why would i want to see him now? lady you're running for president, not your husband. you're not him, he never would have blown the i.d. question and you're not half the man he is in politics,is that gender bias? and before you'll respond to my percieved sexism i'm a retired male whose wife still works, i takr care of the children, do the cooking and shopping, and house so mpass on the comments.

Because somebody has to ask:
1) How many people did the Clinton campaign plant in the crowd to start booing at Edwards and Obama when they critiqued Hillary?
2) Why did John Edwards act like such a patsy last night? He let Hillary accuse him of "throwing mud" without even offering a response. Even a mediocre trial lawyer would have punched back with something like "how Mrs. Clinton thinks that pointing out inconsistencies in her positions is throwing mud is beyond me. By her own definition, she just threw mud at Senator Obama over his healthcare proposal." Instead, Edwards took the spanking from Hillary and went and sat in the corner.
3) This is a two-parter: A) how in the heck did Hillary Clinton get away the entire night without getting her head kicked in for her 11th hour, triple-flip on driver's license for illegal immigrants and B) what in the world was Barack Obama thinking by not just answering the question directly? Give it a "yes" or "no" during the debate, Senator, and explain the nuances, qualifiers, and preconditions later.
4) Why is Joe Biden not doing better among Democratic voters? The guy is experienced, witty, and while he talks a lot, at least he does it in a straightforward, no-nonsense kind of way.
5) Who was in charge of producing CNN's gaffe-per-minute post debate coverage?

http://www.time-blog.com/real_clear_politics/

Looks like there are others asking questions too....

Thank you "boys" for acting like "men" who belong in a serious debate.  Don't whine on Drudge and blame your gender.  Suck it up and move on

BTW did anyone notice that the How do we stop the Bitch (Hillary) comment came from a elderly woman?

Bet she isn't one of the ones that have been waiting for her to run...according to Hillary.  LOL
Clinton leads Neveda by a wide margin, thus, the heavy crowd support.  She leads California by a mile and it will be interesting to see the LA debate.  I will be there, in Clinton gear, ready to cheer on the most qualified candidate for 2008!
THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES..HILLARY CLINTON. hillaryclinton.com  ...come see why !
On healthcare, Obama needs to draw more contrast between his plan and Clinton's. Americans are looking for affordable healthcare not forced coverage. Clinton's plan forces you to have coverage while Obama's don't. Obama's plan cuts down on cost hence helping needy families afford healthcare. Clinton's plan cuts down costs but also forces you to get coverage. We pride ourselves on being a free nation and once we allow our government to force us into healthcare we slowly start losing what this country is all about.
According to some Las Vegas newspapers....

Some woman named Jackson who asked a question about her son or whatever in Iraq, led a group of anti war protesters to Harry reid's office in nevada demanding he do something about the war.....

So CNN did allow some of their own "plants" to sit in the audience and ask questions.....

But of course this is not the first time CNN has "planted" questions at a debate......

CNN planted question at debate, student says

By Los Angeles Times  |  November 11, 2003

NEW YORK -- CNN planted a question about computer preferences at last week's debate of the Democratic presidential candidates at Faneuil Hall in Boston, according to the student who posed the query and wrote about it yesterday in an online forum of the Brown (University) Daily Herald. During the debate, cosponsored by the nonprofit Rock the Vote organization, Alexandra Trustman asked the candidates whether they preferred the PC or Mac format for their computers.

Trustman wrote yesterday that she was called the morning of the debate and given the topic of the question the CNN producers wanted her to ask. She wrote that she was "confused by the question's relevance" and constructed what she thought was a "much more relevant" question.

But when she arrived in Boston for the debate, she wrote, she was "handed a note card" with the question and told she couldn't ask her alternative "because it wasn't lighthearted enough and they wanted to modulate the event with various types of questions."

CNN did not respond to repeated requests for comment.
"Very comfortable in the kitchen". yeah right. Hillary, you can't even boil water and resort to making kitchen references. Please.
Like Bill, I like FAT women....have you ever noticed how she swishes when she walks?

Can you imagine 4 years of watching that...I can't wait

Look, I'm not a huge Hillary fan but you've got to give credit where it is due.  Her campaign is better organized, she is better informed on the  issues, she is "out there" for the American people, the lady knows what she has been doing.  She has been planning this run for the Presidency for the past 30 years of her life and she is executing her plan flawlessly.  This fact, along with the fact that not one single one of her fellow contenders can even come close to touching her or knocking her campaign off track tells me the lady has something they don't.  Now, argue with that.  Smarts win every time.  As for mr Obama, the man is a wuss who will not even put his hand over his heart to say the Pledge of Allegance.  Please - I'll not elect HIM for my President. He may remove that mask after he's elected and start whacking my hand off if I choose to TO place my hand over my heart when I say the pledge.  My Grandfather was right, there's something strange about a man who won't honer this country's time honored traditions.
