Obama slams HRC on Novak, NAFTA

Posted: Sunday, November 18, 2007 1:32 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC/NJ's Carrie Dann
MARION, IA –- In a press conference this morning, Obama criticized the Clinton campaign's slow response to a claim yesterday by syndicated columnist Bob Novak that the Democratic front-runner is sitting on “scandalous” information about the Illinois senator.

Asked about his uncharacteristically strong preemptive response to the report, Obama said that his campaign won’t tolerate “slime politics,” and said that it took “three iterations” of the story (referring to the press release war that ensued between the two camps yesterday) for the Clinton camp to deny the story outright. He added sarcastically that it “would have been nice” if her campaign had been more forthright in its denial.

Obama said that his quick response to the rumor was intended to “nip it at the bud” before it circulated further, invoking the damaging innuendos that derailed the campaign of John McCain in 2000, as well as the “Swiftboat” attacks against John Kerry in 2004.

Obama dodged reporters’ questions as to whether he knows of any other signs that “scandalous” information is being circulated.

Obama also slammed Clinton for flip-flopping on NAFTA, which she called “a mistake” in last week’s debate in Las Vegas. “She was a cheerleader for NAFTA for more than a decade,” he said, adding that “the only thing that has changed is that its an election year.”

*** UPDATE *** "It must be the silly season, because this is getting ridiculous," Clinton spokesman Phil Singer said on the Novak story. "Senator Obama knows that our campaign responded instantly with a clear denial.  Senator Obama is manufacturing an issue to distract voters from a disastrous debate performance that revealed, among other things, that his health care plan doesn’t cover every American."

On NAFTA, Singer said, "Senator Obama must have been talking about himself because as recently as 2004, he was saying the United States should pursue trade deals like NAFTA.  The fact is that Senator Clinton has been voicing serious concerns about trade agreements for years and as a Senator from New York, she didn’t just talk, she acted.  She voted against CAFTA and Fast Track, introduced legislation to analyze the economic impact of trade agreements every five years and has been a vocal critic of the Bush administration’s failure to enforce our trade agreements."

Maybe Bob Novak was right and Clinton has "scandalous"
info on the illustrious senator but has elected to not
act like him, and therefor has not used it.  So while ya'll are bashin her for knowing something she hasn't told us, keep pissen her off and maybe we'll find out what the senator did.  keep it up, I'm curious.
Obama may have demurred about any other rumors being spread but he knows someone is spreading the false rumor he is Muslim, that he was wrong not place his hand over his heart during the Star Spangled Banner (not the Pledge of Allegiance) when other photos show him doing so, etc. It would not surprise me or many others that the Clinton slime machine is behind any of these. She can't win on the issues -- which she straddles like other women have straddled her husband -- so she'll do anything. After all, as she's said, She's In To Win. Obama is in to help America.
The Clinton's are the most slimey duo of politicians ever, and that's saying something. These two slime-balls have to be pointed for what they are, power hungrey leeches that would sell out their own grandmother if need to win. I cannot for the life me understand why anyone is intrigued by these two vultures. Both are nothing more them pond scum.
After reading all of these posts, my first thought is that I have to find out what Bob Novak's story is all about.  I've heard all sorts of rumors.  As an Obama supporter, who embraces the politics of hope, I want all of the info. before I accuse the Hillary camp of foul play (although, I suspect team Obama has already done the research).  I have to say, Bob Novak is not exactly one with whom I place a lot of trust.  After all, as someone here has already pointed out, he was handily used by Bush/Cheney to punish Joe Wilson with the Valerie Plame leak.  (Don't think for a minute that Dick Armitage was really the main leaker.)

Be that as it may, it impresses me that the readers on this post seem to be tuned into the Clintons' history of subterfuge.  If this story holds water, then Katie bar the door.  Hillary will sink like a lead balloon (as she should).  Iowa and New Hampshire and then South Carolina will summarily reject her.

Because of the Clinton's reputation for the politics of personal destruction, one would think that team Hillary would be very sensitive to falling into old patterns of behavior but I guess that you are what you are and there's no hiding from it.

It brings to mind the old Lincoln saw, "You may fool all of the people some of the time, you can even fool some of the people all of the time, but... " Y'all know the rest.  Here's another appropriate Lincoln quote:  “I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live by the light that I have. I must stand with anybody that stands right, and stand with him while he is right, and part with him when he goes wrong.”

Man, that really sums up what Obama is all about.  That's the change that I want in Washington and I am naive enough to think that a candidate with that commitment to truth is one who I would want to be the president of my country; all patriotic Americans should feel that way.  The truth is, it's ours for the asking.  It's ours, if we vote for Obama.

I have had it with MSNBC hardball and the Clinton haters tell the truth or get of the air or better yet go work at Fox
Response #2 by Undecided is planted by a HRC agent. The same response is posted word for word at:  http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/news/politics/blog/2007/11/obama_addresses_novak_report_a.html
Too BAD  Obama favors Nafta, couldn't give a straight answer on the drivers liscense illegal immigration question and supports going to war with Iran.. Obama is the biggest hypocrite.. You have to be very uninformed to support him
I am troubled that any Democrat, much less a presidential candidate, would leap to the assumption that there was any accuracy to the claim without first verifying with the Clinton campaign.  As much as I admire Mr. Obama, the speed with which he made this leap of faith makes me question whether he understands politics at all.  Suggesting that Senator Clinton has a positive duty to deny without first asking her politely seems to me to require manners in your peers without first demonstrating them yourself.  Perhaps he would like to hand the election to the Republicans without requiring a vote as well?  And the speed with which so many jumped on the bandwagon of certainty that Senator Clinton was at fault without verifying the source simply demonstrates that many voters would rather engage in knee-jerk reactions rather than put forth effort to ensure reasoned choices.  This is precisely how we ended up with eight years of Bush.

Obama is just desperate and thinks that attacking Hillary will help revive his luckster campaign. He has abandoned the politics of hope and has started the politics of attack. Like John Edwards, he is desperate to gain ground, especially in Iowa. Iowa people will learn that he is critizcing Hillary for not being straigt foward, but yet he couldn't answer a simple question---Is he willing to give ILLEGAL immigrants driver lisceses???? His answer .................? but? I am? etc....He should have been more direct!
An earlier post said this reminded them of Shakespeare:

The Clinton Political Machine.........
obama takes the word of a republican operative......
wow.

and so do the supposed barakites on this forum.

did you supposed democrats believe that the impeachment was the gop correctly?

To Undecided in Anaheim:  You posted the same thing on "The Swamp" under the name, Amir. You're not even making any sense. You are simply taking this opportunity to say the word "inexperienced" on the part of Obama.  What are you talking about? Obama did not pull this "dirty tricks" stunt. The Clinton Camp did. Obama is not attacking Clinton; Clinton is attacking Obama. Don’t you get it?  Through Obama's experience and knowledge, he understands how quickly misinformation (or lies) literally travels all over the world. I believe that Obama's action shows how experienced and intelligent he is.

It is the Clinton camp who is the source of what Robert Novak published yesterday in The New York Post, because Robert Novak said so. Mr. Novak may not be pro-Clinton or pro-Obama, but he is a respected journalist, and he would not risk that in order to make something up. I am sure he would be the first to tell you that there is plenty to write about without making up something. The Clinton Camp initiated this “dirty tricks” rumor.  Does that mean that Clinton is “experienced”?

To Sarah and Diane:  Right on! I couldn't have said it better.
The Clintons have been playing dirty their whole lives.  The only reason that "strong woman" stayed with Bill was because she needed a free ride to the White House.  She never expected a revolutionary politician from Chicago to FUNDAMENTALLY CHANGE the political climate.  So now, her and Bill gotta try every dirty secret trick they can to try and tank Obama.  Obama's response was perfect.  It shut down the rumor full force.  THAT is how you respond to swift-boat like tactics.  The Clintons trying to act like this proves his inexperience for "falling" for a Republican tactic?  No! This proves his ability to QUASH dirty tactics.

Fundamental change is exactly what we need.  A name change doesn't cut it.  The Clintons play dirty poll-driven politics.  Hillary has been caught lying and refusing to answer questions so that no one knows where she stands... enough is enough.

Change you can ACTUALLY believe in...
OBAMA '08
This story fits in with this article here:
http://www.salon.com/politics/war_room/2007/10/30/hope/index.html
People are nuts on here...

Novak is a republican - don't you think that was the first sign of something be "wrong" with this story...

Wow - if obama has only this to attack Senator Clinton - he has a long 45 days ahead of him...

Folks lets just breath for a second and relax, Robert Novak is a known republican and he admits the source of his "lead" is not from the clinton campaign. Obama should be a little more careful in throwing arrows...

Nothing profound here except that the madrassa Obama attended as a child, like many such schools, is now more radical than it was and that Obama's father was more of a Muslim than Obama wants to let on.

Most of it is old news, but there are some tidbits that could perhaps change a % point or two in the Iowa primary in January... it is that tight... all or nothing...

For reasons beyond the obvious, Hillary must win Iowa, thus the desperation tactics both obvious and inside.

Ironically, Hillary Clinton was more of a "radical" as a young woman than Obama has ever been.  As a result of this misstep, she puts a lot on the line, for now and in the future.

Essentially, this points to Hillary as tough enough, but goes against her present need to soften the image.  The tough stuff is working against her and Obama has her number.

He plans to beat her with her own misdemeanor. He is onto something and will not let it go easily.

By pointing to her rough edges, the ones she shows and the ones she doesn't want to be seen, he stays above the fray and can act the victim.  Oh, poor, pure, good Christian me!

Nobody is going to win this one outright, but other candidates are getting a break here. Hillary has the most to lose.  For starters, Iowa and her capitalist establishment support.

Two great candidates mud-wrestling in the fields of corn...pathetic.

Wow!  Calling these attacks Karl Rove-esque is pretty damning stuff.  Jeepers!  I thought all of the Demokrats had been lobotomized and were sitting around Iowa and New Hampshire, holding hands and singing "Kum Baya."
Meanwhile, the Demokratic controlled Congress, led by the Wicked Witch of the West, are spending money like a bunch of drunken Republicans and not doing the nation's business.  Whoul'da thunk it?
Yup.  This has descended into a nasty, contentious, no-holds-barred shoving match.  The Ice Queen is still top momma.  Don't forget about that little point.  Hillary ALWAYS rides on top.  Except for the rare times she sleeps at home with Slick Willy.  Then she is in a seperate bed by herself.
Senator Obama does not conform to the old Daley Machine mantra that "It is not your turn."  The Ice Queen feels entitled.  Good for her.  Obama sees that this is a new era.  Senator Ms. Klinton will not entertain any assertive African American male by being kind or gentle.  She will crush him like a bug.  She has ways of dealing with infidels.  This is not for the feint of heart, dearie.  Gloves off.  Senator Ms. Klinton is clearly in for a rough ride.  Her sex and Obama's race have nothing to do with the fact that the Democrats are better at throwing slime and dropping bombs than Karl Rove ever dreamed possible.
Meanwhile, the media fawn over the inevitable Demokratic occupation of the White House.  Then, elections can be suspended while President Ms. Klinton takes care of us sniveling, unworthy cretins out here in fly-over country.  But it's OK because the Demokrats only want to take care of the common man.  Be careful what you wish for.  This will make "W" and Uncle Karl Rove look like a couple of Boy Scouts.  Stay tuned.
Here is a bit about those undecide voters at the Vegas debate:

http://directorblue.blogspot.com/2007/11/cnn-plants-questions-to-protect-hillary.html

I guess what happens in Vegas doesn't stay in Vegas.

Novak was never accused of making up the Plame story; Clinton didn't want to respond, she was asked. SHE should have come out immediately against this;  McCain is coming out against what some believe is a Guiliani-mastered trick in NH, and NO ONE HAD TO GO ASK IF HE WAS INVOLVED.

Senator Clinton is slipping quickly; She and her campaign staff at CNN blew the debate, the debacle that was scripted against her top contenders and "diamoned and pearled" into infamy; is this merely a stunt to distract more sane minds from investigating the young woman's statements that she wanted to ask one of her more intelligent questions, but instead was  set up to look like an idiot. She's a bright young woman who was tricked. Let's not lose sight of the real issue because of this not-so-subtle attempt to derail the investigation into the "Diamond and Pearl Debacle."
What exactly did Hillary do?  Her camp hasn't released the info and we're not even sure she has anything on him.  Remember, this is all Robert Novak's conjecture.

Calm down, Obamaniacs.  If you're looking for someone to blame look at your crusade agent for change.  He's the one who may have gotten you in this mess.
And Hillarys penis grows a bit bigger with the slamming of  Obama and the support of CNN Blitzer and CBS's Katic Couric
seems like obama reacted a bit too hysterical over the so-called rept that no one knows anything about, except for inuendo. or, does he have something to hide that someone 'on the other side' might find out and disclose? if not, then his first inclination should have been to be wary of novak....doesnt he realize that the repubs will try and make mischief whenever they can? at the least, the should have called clinton himself. it does call into question his judement for overreacting without having anything solid to go on other than accusations. seems a bit immature on his part b/c he is the one who ends up looking bad. as for chuck todd of first read....it is apparent that he does not like hillary either. he did after all, insinuate that hillary had stacked the audience during the NV debate although, he says, there wasnt any proof. those that say cnn was acting favorably towards clinton Im sure did not think tim russert was intent on putting clinton inthe spotlight without doing the same to the others. the title of this article might have been more centered...todd might have given a more unbiased slant to the title of this article. obama didnt 'slam' hillary, he overreacted...again, showing his green-ness in politics. I think obama needs to go back in the oven....in a few more years he might be in a better position to be a credible 'big 'boy' president...right now, he just isn't ready....he isn't thick-skinned enough. not to mention, his debating skills are sorely lacking.
Hey Darlene,

Many Clinton haters, including myself, are Democrats.  I could not think of a worse candidate to represent Democrats as the presidential candidate.  Pro-war, pro-lobbyist, and pro-corporate control.  Not to mention that she thinks that $97k is the middle class (good luck with that in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, or Nevada).  Only 6% of the population makes more than $97k.  Yeah, that sounds like middle class.  A real Democrat would know better.

Edwards/Obama or Obama/Edwards '08
RE:    Obama slams Hillary on Novak story…

Good for you, Obama!

Slime ball Clinton tactics are back!

You know, when I think of Bill and Hillary Clinton, I think of Monica Lewinsky walking around the white house with Bill’s ejaculate on the front of her dress, and Hillary launching legal attacks on women who alleged that her husband had sexually assaulted them (apparently, they weren’t all willing participants like Monica).

These are sleazy people who dishonored the institution of the Commander In Chief during their time in the white house and they should not be allowed back in. As president Ford indicated recently, Bill Clinton can’t even get command of his penis. He can’t even get that under control, and his wife enabled his deviant behavior.

Hillary Clinton doesn’t care about other women. She has known who/what she is married to for a long time and she didn’t have to stay with her cheating husband. That’s not a sign of strength. Hillary has an Ivy League education and earned more than her husband (then the Governor) when they were back in Arkansas. Bill’s been cheating on her for a long time. She could have left him and had a great, lucrative career any time she wanted. Hillary and Chelsea would not have been in any danger of financial hardship.

My fellow women, Hillary Clinton’s story is NOT your story. You may be staying with that cheating husband for financial reasons, but Hillary was never going to be poor (she was partner in a top law firm long before her husband went to Washington). She stayed for the prestige of telling people she was married to the Governor (even though she made more than him), and later for the prestige of telling people she was married to the president – so don’t feel sorry for her. Hillary didn’t feel sorry for the women that her husband took sexual advantage of - she instead did her best to destroy them. When a powerful man takes sexual advantage of the women around him and his wife backs him up, that‘s NOT a scenario that the woman who’s being taken advantage of can win, and you ALL know it.

This is the same woman who mocked stay at home moms, saying that she’s not “staying at home baking cookies”, and now all of a sudden she’s trying to bond with us by telling us “she’s at home in the kitchen”, and that we should “get out our brooms” to help her clean out Washington. Please! If you think for one instant that Hillary Clinton won’t use the gender card to play upon the fears and insecurities of her fellow women (the average American woman, not her rich Manhattan friends), then you’re sadly mistaken. She has no qualms using us to meet her career goals.

As another woman wrote, “Hillary Clinton does not represent working women, stay at home women, or ANY women of character at all!!!”

The Clintons are SLEAZY people who dishonored the institution of The President of The United States of America during their time in the white house and they should not be allowed back in.

A woman will be president of this country in the future, but that woman should NOT be Hillary Clinton!

America – elect a non-Clinton president this time!
I believe we need the next President to be a Democrat, but I think we need to listen more to Joe Biden.  It is a shame that the lower tier candidates have a message but cannot get through the media's love for the Hillary and Obama show.
We are in a time that we need someone who understands what is going on globally and domestically and can reach out to others to get legislation moving and that person is Joe Biden.
Please check out his website. www.joebiden.com
We need the media to cover all the candidates so others can decide for themselves.
Wow, Obama must be desparate and/or scared.  Within 24 hours, the Novak article came out, Obama slammed Hillary (he should have slammed Novak), Hillary's camp denied it (THREE EXPLICIT TIMES), and Novak said his source wasn't Hillary's campaign, and Obama's still complaining about Hillary!  This sounds like a sad, desparate man so disappointed with his performance in the debate the other night that he needs to create distractions.  Even if the rumour was true, the point was that Hillary's campaign was approached with info and made a decision to be ethical and not use it!!  To all you Obama fans that flood MSNBC with your whining, isn't it strange that you're calling Hillary slimey, even when the outcome of this make-believe story is that she took the high road??  You wouldn't be satisfied either way.  I've never seen a campaign with a bigger bunch of whining, weak supporters in my life.  You're all going to be crushed by the Republican attack machine if Obama gets the nomination.
Obama didn't save his Illinois senate records?!?  ha!
Oh - and Rezko's trial isn't until Feb. - after most of the primaries are over. Very convenient for Obama not to have saved correspondence from lobbyists and other individuals.
No thanks! Obama is sooooo deceptive.

Go Edwards!

I found this online from the Clinton Camp.  This is too funny.  http://facts.hillaryhub.com is a website devoted to countering all anti-hillary statements.  While at the same time making wild claims about Obama and Edwards.  However at the bottom of the site is the following statement:

Paid for by Hillary Clinton for PresidentContact Us | Privacy Policy

Hillary Clinton for President is not responsible for the content of any external websites.

Just Shady!!!!
Obama is an Illinois politician and we all know about that machine.  If he has nothing to hide, what is the problem.  And do you really believe that Robert Novak is on the up and up?  Give me a break!  This is the guy who "outed" Valerie Plame....and he's supposed to be credible?  The problem that Obama has with Hillary clinton is that she's a whole lot smarter than he'll ever be.  Look how he blew the debate the other night - "woofed" the same queestion about illegal immigration that he tried to call her on.  Just a little wet behind the ears - needs to go home and grow up before getting into the big time.  We don't need another inexperienced imcompetent president like we have now...we can all see  what Bush has done to our country.
I am surprised Obama is grasping at straws now. Which strong politician will jump at some republican chit chat and attack a fellow democrat?

Anyway, I disliked what Obama said that this is an election year. Obama himself was in favor of NAFTA. I guess he is showing that because it is election year, he should pander and sound great.

I am losing respect for Obama. Stop spreading hatred and divisiveness amongst the people for your own opportunistic bid for President.
What has Hilary Clinton done to deserve such hatred?  Christians who have either personally forgiven and stayed or know someone else who has honored marraige vows despite the hurt that a loved one has caused should be more sympathetic.  Anyway I think that Obama should have approached the Clinton campaign about Novak's article (consider the source) before making a pre-emptive strike.   Let's hope that the next president checks the facts before taking action.
For all those coming to the defense of Clinton saying "Obama is 'naive' for responding to the Novak claim" - do you for one minute think that the Clintons don't know that democrats distrust Novak?  The Clintons are fully aware that leaking information to Novak provides them an umbrella to shield themselves from the leak, because they can make exactly the argument that Novak is a right-winger no democrat trusts but still smear Obama in the process.  They want to drag Obama into the gutter where they like to do their politics.

And if you believe that the Clintons would never cozy up to right-wing people like Novak - remember that just a few weeks ago they admitted to leaking stories to Matt Drudge (who is the right-wing noise journalist that first reported the biggest hit on them of all: the Lewinsky scandal that led to Bill Clinton's impeachment).
Important to note:  Obama learned this directly from Clinton people 2 weeks ago.

They offered him an "out."  He turned it down and soon they started making rumbling sounds with the "evidence" they have that supposedly will do him in.

Obama is not over-reacting, but he is rather taking advantage of the situation to his own benefit and perhaps to the detriment of the larger Democratic campaign.

No heroes here.

Hillary's aversion to Swift-Boating is apparently only as strong as her aversion to hypocrisy.  As Obama alluded, if she were innocent, she might have denied this from the get-go, dare I say even before Obama's campaign spoke out on the issue three times.  Actions like this prove that the many slanders against Hillary are effective because they contain the grain of truth essential to a good lie. Hillary has become her enemy, and can't recognize that there are politicians out there (e.g. every Democrat but her) who has not yet sunk to the level of politics-as-usual.
novak is slime, who knows he may have cooked this up just drive a wedge deeper into the dem party thus weakening them. he is a well known repub mouthpiece and personal friend of rove. they may figure romney or guiliani need all the help they can get. unnamed sources, close to the campaign? sure sounds like more garbage from the garbage man to me.

we all know that republicans hate America and middle class kids.

the main question is what keeps a republican a republican after so many years of LIES, scams and 4000 dead American boys ang girls?
Wow! this site is nothing more than an obama talking points site. could be that is because no one else will listen to the trash you sling around. and now you all show your stupidity by being suckered in by the leading republican voice in the media. i noticed none of you commented on obama "ducking" reporters questions in this story. i also noticed none of you commented on the fact that he supported NAFTA not just since 2004 but just 3 or 4 debates ago when asked directly about NAFTA he supported it, whereas Hillary, with her knowledge and experience can see that it did not work the way it was intended. i'm glad all you obama supporters have a place to whine and moan and attack the other candidates. could it be because no one in the real world will listen to you? keep trying and keep grasping at straws, maybe one day you'll come up with a little substance and not all this fluff and fear-and-smear politics. and oh! by the way, i'm sure bob novak is having a great laugh at the expense of you naive little dumbasses. me too! hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!
It's amazing how some say the GOP ( Gay Old Pedophiles)will eat barack alive with swiftboat attacks & attempt to say he's inexperienced. This just goes to show you all, he's More than ready for any sign of an attack. When you have nothing to hide, this is exactly how you handle it. It will be much more Exciting watching Barack swat the repubs away like flies as to listening to Hillary, Moan & groan about the vast right wing conspiracy on a daily basis.Come on AMERICA, let's put this Bush-Clinton thing to a close."DELUSIONAL THINKING BY COMMON SENSE AMERICAN'S IS OVER"
Every time I read a story like this I become more convinced that Hillary will be the nominee of our party and that Barrack Osama has a lot to learn yet. First of all, why get so upset by Novak his story about dirt on Barrack Osama if there is no dirt! Secondly, the last time Novak had so much fun is when he outed one of the CIA operatives that had been critical of Bush. This guy is  no friend of Democrats and his stories about Democrats are probably false. The best way to respond to that is no response at all. than to go bleating to the Clinton's, begging them to deny the story is stupid. All he had to do is say: "If Ms. Clinton knows something I do not know about me, I'm sure I will find out sooner or later" and go about his business. No, he saw an opportunity to demand, I say demand to hear from Clinton that there was nothing to it. Why not call Novak and demand that he put up or shut up! He let that blowhard get away with spreading rumors, something Bob Novak is very good at. O the desperate machinations of those that are losing. Clinton can afford to lose both Iowa and New Hampshire as well as Nevada and South Carolina. On Feb 5th all the big states vote and this thing will be over. Obama, of course, will not even be considered for the VP slot. He more or less is eliminating himself right now.
If Obama and Edwards were not so desperate, this increasingly intraparty squabbling would not be going on. Stick to the issues and let the people decide. Instead the two of them jump on every perceived nuance that Clinton proclaims. Once again we are allowing the GOP to get off while the dirt is kicked up by the donkeys.
Does anybody think that Hillary Clinton, the master of media manipulation, would "unintentionally leak" something to the press without knowing about it?

Come on, folks. The only thing this woman is really good at is being shrill and manipulating the press. Obama did the right thing by calling her bluff, and doing it quickly. And it might have been over nothing, but the point is, handling it this forcefully and this quickly makes it more likely to die quickly.

This proves, unequivocally, that Obama won't take s*** from anybody, and puts a big fat hole in the theory that he won't be able to stand up to Republican attacks.

By the way, the Republican noise machine is already at it, and say what you want about his policies, as far as dirt, Obama has given the media nothing to work with. The Republicans have had to resort to name-calling, outright lies, and undisguised racism and bigotry to try to turn people against him. They even tried to turn his smoking habit into an issue before he quit.

The man is squeaky clean. Plus, he has the most forward-thinking policy positions and the best governing philosophy out of anyone in the race.

What's not to like?

Hope Train, folks. Obama '08
It seems the question here is who's more sleazy, Clinton or Novak? While that's a tough call, my bet would be that Novak's story was true.
I feel as though people always attack Hillary Clinton's motivation in running for President.  Why does anyone run for President?  For the power trip and the control.  Their motivations are irrelevant.  If Hillary Clinton wins and satisfies her own need for power by helping this country get back on track, why is that a problem?

I think that she is very power hungry and people have some type of innate problem when women have this type of hunger for power.
Mark Theime, in the fray here, why???? BIG stick in the pot! Stirring and stirring~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I WANT TO KNOW WHY DAVID SHUSTER REALLY REALLY HATES OBAMA. I saw him on Morning Joe just now, knocking Obama down as he ALWAYS does. Finding something negative to say as usual. Look David, you may now like Obama, but did you know that in that town of Grundy pop 2,531, Obama DREW A CROWD OF 4000 Sunday??? Hillary is not winning the Iowa polls in Iowa, the 3 top tier are tied for first place. There's SOMETHING ABOUT OBAMA THAT IOWANS REALLY LIKE, and these are the people who've been getting to know him really well. WHY IS THAT DAVID, AND WHY CANT YOU SEEM TO GIVE OBAMA CREDIT FOR THAT???
just sayin....
Here's the thing- Barack Obama is not the hope for the future.  His lack of experience and willingness to play lapdog for the radical left is scandalous enough.  In a dogfight between Hillary and Barack, I choose Joe Biden.
How do we know for sure that Obama did not pay off Novak in order to divert people attention from his fiasco in debate. How do Obama supporters here know that this is not his setup. HRC campaign did deny it with in two hours of the story comming out. When he says fast response, How fast should they be.
I think he and edwards are acting like kids. They have to fight her based on policies not on personal attacks. This is very amatuerish of him. Get over it and start campaigning on true policies Obama. What happened to your Politics of Hope. Don't leave the message, You are doing good with that message. Fighting with HRC without even knowing for sure, that this thing came out from them is ridiculous.
Why would anyone read what lieing Novak would put in the paper.  Novak should have been tarred and feathered long ago!!!!!
I think that all of these pundits(including David Shuster and that Geist character) should disclose their political leanings/donations or support for any candidate before they comment on the election(remember cnn's James cue-ball Carville). In Dem party circles, we do not like whisper campaigns. The Clintons,of all ppl, should not be saying one thing in public(no mudslinging) and doing another behind the scene. I do believe that her campaign did this hoping that it would float around and never be addressed by Barack Obama. He addressed it head on which is good.
Based on this Salon article and her current leakings to Matt Drudge/Novakula, her campaign is very comfortable leaking to both right and left media. The sleazy campaigns of the 90's raised its ugly head. ENUF
