Huckabee 'the man, Whoooo!'

Posted: Tuesday, November 20, 2007 12:10 PM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC’s Domenico Montanaro
We noted wrestler Ric Flair's endorsement in First Read this morning. For your entertainment:

But we think this news release from the Huckabee campaign speaks for itself…

NEWS RELEASE
Ric Flair: "Mike Huckabee is the Man, Whooooo!"
Former World Heavyweight Champion 'Nature Boy' to Officially Endorse Huckabee on Saturday before Clemson-Carolina Game

Little Rock, AR – Former Arkansas Governor and Republican Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee announced today the endorsement of professional wrestling legend "Nature Boy" Ric Flair, the former 16-time World Heavyweight Champion known worldwide for his "stylin' and profilin'" personality and his signature "Whooooooo" with which he ends interviews.

Flair will make his endorsement official by campaigning with Huckabee at a tailgate at 5:00 PM prior to the Clemson-Carolina game that will take place just outside the West Entrance to Williams Brice Stadium in Stadium Lot spaces 433-434 on Saturday, November 24.

"It's a tremendous honor to offer my support to such an outstanding leader as Mike Huckabee" Flair said.  "His authentic conservative qualifications and level of executive leadership experience are unmatched by his opponents.  And like I always say, to be the man, you've got to beat the man and Mike Huckabee is the man.  Whoooooooo!"

Mr. Flair has previously campaigned for the presidential primary campaigns of George H.W. Bush, Bob Dole, and George W. Bush.  His endorsement comes on the heels of the unveiling of a new Huckabee campaign ad featuring the endorsement of actor and martial arts expert, Chuck Norris.

"I am honored to have the support of Ric Flair.  I'm a huge fan of the Nature Boy. My children grew up watching him and the Four Horseman. Most of all, I look forward to having Nature Boy join me on the campaign trail at the South Carolina-Clemson game this weekend. Ric's endorsement will help us put a figure four leg lock on our opponents."

Again, we could probably do a lot worse than Huckebee (and I'm sure we will).
I believe I may have kept this endorsement under my hat
Thanks but Bush was enough. We don't want another closet Liberal.
This kind of endorsement of republican candidate is typical of the republican mindset out in the general electorate.  Light on substance and issues but heavy on corny things like who you would rather have a BBQ or Beer with.  Huckabee is a creationist science denying evolution denying flat earth believing theocrat who will make us the laughing stock of the world...worse than Bush!  Another article posted on First Read talked about how China is out graduating us in the fields of science and how that is going to hurt us.  We will make that into a self fulfilling prophacy if we vote in another bible beating republican.  We need a more progressive entlightened thinker in the white house...and while my first choice is Hillary, I will gladly vote for Obama if he's the nominee over any republican who otherwise wants to dumb us all down to the common denominator...
Unnamed sources claim that Chuck Norris will challenge Ric Flair to a 'Fight to the Finish', to see which of them is the 'Ulitmate Huckabee Groupie'. Sources also claim 'Nude Mud Wresters International' star, nine-hundred pound, 'Sloppy Sludge', is also weighing an endorsement, and possibly could challenge the winner.
Who is Hulk Hogan endorsing?
Huckabee is running for class clown.
This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. NEVER, under any circumstances, should we allow someone to be our president who seeks endorsements like these.

If he can't see that such endorsements will turn off intelligent voters, then he doesn't deserve to be making decisions that affect our lives.

however...if Billy Ray Cyrus endorses, I might reconsider the Huck.
Endorsements from the entertainment industry?  Where have I seen that before?  The only difference here is that it has a light, humorous tongue-in-cheek flavor.

Democrats actually seem to take their entertainers seriously.

If other republicans can't beat this guy, then the whole GOP should just throw in the towel. Obviosuly the "Christian" voter base is more concerned with paying money for the endorsement of make-believe fighters and stopping abortion than fixing this country.
Well, I think we're seeing the true colors of the Huckabee campaign come out. The guy is a a joke. If we all just ignore him will he go away?
I heard Huckabee's campaign is denying there's an impending endorsement from Snidley Whiplash.  And considering that Snidley is still on the run from the Canadian Mounties (Dudley D.), there is an obvious risk of him crossing the border... ILLEGALLY!!!  And since some consider Huck to be "soft" on immigration... everyone will begin to wonder... does he care about America?  Or does he simply want to become President so that he can provide Amnesty to Snidley??  How has MSNBC missed this story??  I think you guys are intentionally sweeping this campaign-ending story under the rug!!

Seriously though... if Rick Flair is "a story," then shouldn't you do a write-up on GQ honoring Ron Paul as a "man of the year?"

Btw, I don't think the GQ thing is a story... but your perpetual boosting of Huckabee with talk of endorsements from wrestler/fighter/actor types is rather transparent.
Knuckledraggers for Huckabee, woohoo!
chuck norris and ric flair should both to iran and send the rest of american troops home while they clean up.
Not for nothing but chuck is a lousy actor and the nature boy is a good actor.Chuck has lines and scenes written for him and rc has to ad lib his space moutain crap but both are known for make believe, fits nice with the repucker party, you people will suck it up hook line and sincker the wolfe is in sheeps garb stupid.

LOL Pat

By the way, which side of the fence does Hillary stand on those issues; BBQ and beer?
Who is Hulk Hogan endorsing?

Asad (Sent Tuesday, November 20, 2007 12:49 PM)

The way you see how he handles his family, I believe he is a republican as well.
I understand the Huckster may soon have an endorsement from Rocky and Bullwinkle, too (Boris and Natasha back Bush, "world's greatest noble thief").  Krusty the Klown is going for Da Rudy G. show, right?
When did this kind of silly crap become NEWS?!?
this is intersting.....

You have a bunch of weak kneed and girly looking men backing the democrats....

You have a bunch of hard working and death defying men backing the republicans......
Good grief. Aren't there any real republicans out there? Small government and conservative values instead of these big government rhetoric speaking clowns?
This will be nothing compared to when The Ultimate Warrior endorses Alan Keyes.  If you get that joke, you know your politics and your wrestling.

Did you know that Parts Unknown gets ZERO representation in the US Congress?
Jerry - hard working and death defying?  Ric Flair is death defying?  You do realize that professional wrestling is fake right?  Sports Entertainment.  That means he's not really getting beaten up or beating up other people.  It's an act.  Nothing death defying about that.
Why do endorsements from wrestlers make the news?

And why did Barry Goldwater Jr., the former congressman and son of the founder of modern conservatism, not get any media attention when he endorsed Ron Paul?
Chuck Norris...Rik FLair...What is this populist demagogue going to do next...roll out Fred Flintstone, to add to his collection of cartoon figures?
You have a bunch of hard working and death defying men backing the republicans......

Are you kidding!?!?  I guess you still think "Professional Wrestling" is real, nonscripted, sport.  That would explain alot about your positions.
Ron Paul...
Girly  weak knee BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN as opposed to the man of men like DENNIS MILLER, LOVE THAT SENATOR CRAIG and TOM FOLEY,oh republican death defyers and the hard working guys vote weirdos and pedophiles strage juxtaposition wouldnt you say.
You better believe the majority of people in Arkansas are totally embarrassed by these endorsements and most of us are "praying"....praying that Mike Huckabee just fades out and goes away and we don't have to even think about him ever again!!!!!
Yes Bluey..... Ron Paul is a true conservative.
Bush, a closet liberal????  Oh, my!  What a scary statement.
Jerry, I think you need to lighten up concerning Hillary. The more I think about her, the better I am liking her.
I was going to vote my conscience and intellect, but Huckabee WHOOOOO! AWSOME DUDE! Anyone seen the beer bong?
The funny thing is, that both Chuck Norris and Ric Flair would make better candidates (not just endorsers) than any of the Democrat candidates.

Billary, the scandalous? Obama, the punk? Edwards, the lawyer?  No thanks.  I would vote for Chuck or Ric before any of those wannabes.
Aren't Chuck Todd, Mark Murray, and Domenico Montanaro members of the Council on Foreign Relations?
Dennis Miller used to be pretty funny on SNL but he comes on Billos show and is just another crabby old white guy.He was in Detreoit this year and I guess he did not have a sold out show.He and Ted Nugent make a good pair.
"You have a bunch of hard working and death defying men backing the republicans...... "

Noew we know two guys makes "a bunch" and "hard working" means: "lives in a land a false reality."

Perfect for Jerry
This is embarrassing news.  Mitt Romney is looking better and better.  He'll respect the office of President and bring honor to America
Between wrestling and martial arts, people that are endorsing Huckabee have taken many blows to the head.  I don't think that is a coincidence.
This is embarrassing news.  Mitt Romney is looking better and better.  He'll respect the office of President and bring honor to America
Did the onion write this for you? Because seriously, this is (although amusing) completely irrelevent.

You might want to mention that PeeWee Herman officially endorced Giuliani.
You are right, Jerry. He is (just barely) in the tax bracket that benefits from Republican administrations.
Dave don't push Bush off on liberals..when you and the GOP pushed him into office both times as a paragon of conservative values. That's talking out of both sides of your mouth. A familiar pattern..any candidate Republicans sour on...he's suddenly a "liberal". And about Huck..like the man...but his light on substance style screams "warning".
Anyone interested in what Huckabee is really like face to face should try this funny (but it actually happened) column:
http://goupstate.us/index.php/lanefiller/2007/11/02/title_14
Oh please, I think everyone needs to chill out a little...I for one am glad to see someone campaigning who can laugh a little.  Romney is so plastic--almost robotic.  I was surprised at how articulate and thoughtful Chuck Norris's columns are when I checked them out recently.  Keep your eyes open for more serious ads and endorsements for Huckabee.
Wrestling is real you dumb ron paul crack heads!!!
Dr. Ron pork is another  big spender from texas!!!
he spends money on pork like  it's going out of business

"Bush, a closet liberal????  Oh, my!  What a scary statement"

Well he's spends money like LBJ, and he talks about spreading democracy like JFK. I just wanted to toss that one out there for those who say I never bash Bush.
Whooooo! I'll bet guys who like big beefy men they can go to the bar with..like Crackpot Chris Matthews...are going to love this.

Wonder if Matthews would "just love to have a beer" with Huckabee?
LMAO @ all the testosterone deficient liberals who have such an issue with any celebrity who endorses a republican....
Lets' focus on issues not clowning around;

By Congressmen Phil Gingrey, M.D. and Tom Price, M.D.

Over the past ten months, we have heard every presidential candidate talk about the dire need to reform our nation's healthcare system. The candidates all talk about their theories and solutions on how to cover the uninsured. But there is only one candidate running for president in either party that has actually gone beyond the talk and succeeded at leading the fight for meaningful healthcare reform. There is just one candidate who has the experience, vision, and values to fundamentally change America's healthcare delivery system for the better. That candidate is former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.

As physicians who have had a combined 50 years of experience in practicing medicine, we understand the need for broad healthcare reform. The number of uninsured continues to rise, families struggle to pay for the rising costs of premiums, and businesses are being forced to drop their health insurance benefits in order to stay competitive in the global marketplace. As conservative Members of Congress who face the challenge of delivering healthcare reforms nationwide, we understand how critical it is to have a president with a successful record when it comes to solving the current healthcare crisis.

Because of Governor Romney's leadership, the number of uninsured in Massachusetts has been slashed in half over the last year. His conservative, free-market reforms have brought down the cost of health insurance premiums and made healthcare more affordable for residents across the state. For the first time in the history of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, hundreds of thousands of the low-income uninsured citizens have access to a choice of different private health insurance plans. And all of this was accomplished without any new taxes.

Governor Romney's healthcare reforms have begun to take shape and there are already many ways in which his plan has made a positive difference in the lives of many Massachusetts citizens. Unfortunately, some critics would prefer to ignore these early signs of success and, instead, are far more interested in writing a premature obituary of the reforms for ideological or political purposes. The reality is that Governor Romney was successful in bringing healthcare reform to his state. No matter what the critics say, more Massachusetts residents are currently covered with private health insurance than ever before.

The early signs of success are undeniable. First, over half of the uninsured in Massachusetts now have health insurance because of Governor Romney's reforms. This includes over 160,000 people who have purchased private health insurance in reformed markets that feature a variety of plans with cheaper premiums and more generous benefits. Second, the conservative, market-oriented reforms that Governor Romney instituted have made health insurance more affordable. Before Governor Romney's reforms, the average uninsured resident was paying $335 a month to obtain an insurance policy with a $5,000 deductible. Now, that same individual only pays $184 a month for a policy with a $2,000 deductible. Finally, residents of Massachusetts now have an avenue to purchase insurance with pre-tax dollars, leveling the playing field between the individual market and employer sponsored health plans, and bringing the monthly premium paid by the average uninsured resident in the state to as low as $115 a month.

Some commentators have faulted Governor Romney for providing generous assistance to the low-income uninsured, to help them purchase private health insurance coverage. What they neglect to mention is that these individuals were already being administered "free care" in hospitals and emergency medical facilities – at an expense of over $1 billion to Massachusetts taxpayers. These naysayers seem to think its better for the uninsured to have disjointed and inconsistent healthcare paid for by your hard-earned tax dollars than to make private insurance more affordable and therefore more accessible. It is unfortunate that they seem to overlook how important access to preventive healthcare is for all Americans. When you give physicians the opportunity to diagnose and manage conditions before they reach a crisis state, it lightens the load on the system and reduces long-term health care spending. Governor Romney had the foresight to realize these distinctions; he chose to lead rather than to listen to the pessimists, and the people of Massachusetts are better for it.

America's healthcare problems won't be solved by the rhetoric and partisan bickering that is happening on the campaign trail. Nor will they be solved by politicians who have talked about change, but done nothing to demonstrate that they have the courage to lead. Governor Romney faced the healthcare crisis in Massachusetts head-on. He crafted a plan, worked with an overwhelmingly Democratic legislature to get it passed, and is responsible for the success of that plan in covering the uninsured and lowering healthcare costs in Massachusetts. He is the only candidate for the presidency who has demonstrated both the vision and the will to accomplish meaningful healthcare reform. If elected president, we believe that Governor Romney will fundamentally improve our nation's healthcare delivery system – providing the necessary healthcare reform that allows for more choice, affordability and access for every American.
