Army policy and bonuses

From NBC’s Domenico Montanaro
Clinton issued a sharp critique of a U.S. Army policy in a letter from her Senate office, requesting “the immediate reversal of an Army policy that requires repayment of enlistment bonuses by medically discharged wounded soldiers.”

The letter is in response to a local TV news report in Pittsburgh yesterday.  She calls the policy “outrageous,” that “soldiers have earned their bonuses” and “it shocks the conscience that the Army could demand that wounded soldiers return their enlistment bonuses.” The letter continues, and touts her work on the Armed Services Committee.

But NBC’s Jim Miklaszewski explains to First Read that it is actually already “against Army policy to require repayment for enlistment bonuses from soldiers wounded in service,” said Miklaszewski, NBC News' Pentagon correspondent. “The incident that popped up in a local news story in Pittsburgh, on FOX and on MSNBC last night was the result of bureaucratic confusion over the soldier's wounded status and an incorrect determination of his discharge. The decision to request repayment was in error and has since been reversed.

“The local report from KDKA in Pittsburgh that claimed thousands of medically discharged soldiers are being forced to repay their enlistment bonus is wrong. The KDKA reporter said he got his information from a local congressman, who confused an earlier issue in which 2,005 wounded soldiers did not receive their full pay for a brief period of time. Another typical bureaucratic bungle, which was also corrected. The KDKA reporter never sought any clarification or reaction from either the Army or Pentagon before running the story, according to Army officials."

It seems that Clinton "never sought any clarification or reaction from either the Army or Pentagon" either.
So, in an effort to push her only credentials, Clinton jumped on a story without all the facts.  That seems to qualify as an inexperienced campaign by her definition.  Ha!
of course, one has to believe the pentagon is telling the truth...

WMD anyone?
In her quest to seek the spotlight and headline the news today, Hillary jumps all over a story without getting all the facts.  Again.
and if we have no reason to believe the pentagon why should we believe Clinton?

Iraq vote anyone? Its a nobrainer really and as I said it is not a disney world.
And we believe that this gov't is telling the truth about how they are treating our wounded soldiers because.......?
Walter Reed anyone?
She really used her senate office to do this? Officially? wow!? I'm sure the people across the river are looking at her with a WTF! expression.
Seriously, what was she thinking?
From what I understand they have a bunch of unnecessary stuff attached to the troop funding bill. The democrats need to send him a clean bill.
Wow, she's effective!  The issue was resolved before the end of the article.
Yeah, another example of Republican-style governance -- complete incompetence, especially when it comes to our troops..
well Jan bush incompetence did show it's ugly head again.

Good for Clinton for coming to the soldiers defence.... where was Obama?
Tofun,Disney: '...well Jan bush incompetence did show it's ugly head again.

Good for Clinton for coming to the soldiers defence.... where was Obama?...'

Obama was EXPERIENCED ENOUGH to check out the story, before jumping the gun.

I think Hillary showed how 'naive' she can be.
She believes everything she's told
George Bush, Dick Cheney....
She believes them all.....

She just needs more 'seasoning' before she runs for the Presidency.
Come back in 2016 Hillary !!

After paying attention to how the Obama/Edwards Administration gets us out of Iraq...
Maybe they'll let you be the 'face of America's' foreign policy !!

;-0

Congratulations Barack Obama on being the #1 Democrat to receive military(soldiers) contributions to your campaign. We thank you for looking out for our soldiers. Your maternal grandfather(WWII veteran) taught you well, sir. I appreciate your candor with the American people.
Sigh, I'm from Pittsburgh so KDKA is my embarrassment. Hillary Clinton is somebody else's embarrassment.
"the result of bureaucratic confusion over the soldier's wounded status and an incorrect determination of his discharge. The decision to request repayment was in error and has since been reversed."  Confusion seems to be the name of the game at the Pentagon and the White House.  Who's paying attention here?  Were it not for the press, this "confusion" would no doubt have continued.  The inmates are clearly running the asylum known as the Pentagon.  Hard to believe that the first person drafting the letters demanding repayment from wounded soldiers would not have immediately questioned the whole basis for such an outrage and put a stop to this nonsense.
The shame is sliding off Her face! Always jumping on the other guys coat tails. This Idiot Washington self serving paper hanger always sticks her nose up some one's A@@ to paint a pretty picture. Well this time is like all the others Scandal after scandal!

Oh, YES,,, ""this babbling idiot sets on the Armed Services committee""" Get a straight Jacket and net!
Why has there no national Media release been given to correct this shameful situation and needless act to deface our Veterans?????!!!!!!!

I ask you at MSNBC that a Media release be done to correct this blatant stupid comments, as Veterans and our serving troops will not be mis informed??
tofun, Oh yeah Clinton coming to the rescue for our troops. Like she wants to "rescue" them in the form of cutting military spending, the same spending that is providing protection for them in warzones, the same spending that is researching ways to keep them safer than ever...if thats her version of a "rescue" then I'll take my chances with a row boat and paddle
I scratch my head and wonder how people in the hill campaign keep making so many small mistakes, I do believe that she will become a laughingstock for many more people if they don't tighten up their campaign!
I guess I expected more, but we all know what happens when you have expectations! Biden is looking better and better , go john, go obama, go joe, dennis, get out now! We ain't gonna have a president from Mckees Rocks PA!
It is simply amazing how people believe that replacing personal attacks against a politician for issues oriented discussions.  Mrs. Clinton did the right thing...and no, I'm not a Democrat...just someone who would like to return to honest debate and discussion, instead of school yard, "spitball" fighting.
Despite the spin this article is trying to give this story, it's more than just a "mistake." It's part of a pattern of bureaucratic incompetence and indifference to the welfare of veterans. Once they're out of the service, wounded physically or mentally and no longer in spiffy uniforms suitable for Bush photo ops, veterans are treated like broken toys stuffed into a closet by the bratty child who broke them.

CBS has reported that the Bush regime has been covering up an epidemic of suicides among veterans. There were over 6,000 suicides in 2005. That's more than the total US combat fatalities for the entire Iraq misadventure. The highest rates are among veterans aged 20 to 40 who served during the "war on terror."

I would like to add: Clinton sets on the Armed services commitee only because, Her self serving agenda paper hangers staged her.
FACT: Clinton is a professional Washington self serving Paper hanger. Over the past Year "Clinton" has been nothing but conjecture, scandal, and misleading. To add evasive, adding false witness to false statement about our troops, pentagon commanders and using her position as having past leadership while in the White House.

America is finally seeing that the continued battering of other candidates is not bring nothing new to the table. Clinton has and continues to reinsert the noun 'I" , meaning ONE, which leads to Americans see her hidden  dialogue does not include the People! Her self serving agenda's and hidden cost to support her dialogue will cost billions.

Clinton and the DNC party in the Senate have failed America. Their record and demeanor show Americans what the next four years will being. Today they set silent and will not address major priorities which is bring distress to our everyday lives. Poverty, Homeless, fuel cost, illegal immigration, disasters, and the list too long to mention at this time.

Proves a point. Clinton jumps before she knows the whole story, now that is scarey. Just imagine if she had to make a war decision. Would she act first and ask questions later, it would be too late.
Hey Houston, we should believe because....? Remember Rather and his report on Bush's National Guard service? As I recall, it was totally discredited.
Ahh, it's so refreshing to see DemoCREEPS like tofun coming out to try and shift attention to something else.  Typical liberal nonsense.
